13:1  Now Simon heard that Tryphon was gathering together a very great army to invade the land of Juda, and to destroy it.

13:1  Šimon dostal zprávu, že Tryfon shromáždil veliké vojsko a chystá se vtrhnout do judské země a zpustošit ji.

13:1  Et audivit Simon quod congregavit Tryphon exercitum copiosum ut veniret in terram Juda, et attereret eam.

13:2  And seeing that the people was in dread and in fear, he went up to Jerusalem, and assembled the people,

13:2  Když viděl, jak se lid chvěje strachy, přišel do Jeruzaléma, shromáždil lid

13:2  Videns quia in tremore populus est, et in timore, ascendit Jerusalem, et congregavit populum :

13:3  And exhorted them, saying: You know what great battles I and my brethren, and the house of my father, have fought for the laws, and the sanctuary, and the distresses that we have seen:

13:3  a takto je povzbudil: „Sami víte, kolik jsme toho já, mí bratři a celý rod mého otce vykonali pro Zákon a svatyni a jaké boje a útrapy jsme zažili.

13:3  et adhortans dixit : Vos scitis quanta ego, et fratres mei, et domus patris mei, fecimus pro legibus et pro sanctis, prælia, et angustias quales vidimus :

13:4  By reason whereof all my brethren have lost their lives for Israel's sake, and I am left alone.

13:4  Všichni mí bratři padli za Izrael, až jsem zůstal jen já sám.

13:4  horum gratia perierunt fratres mei omnes propter Israël, et relictus sum ego solus.

13:5  And now far be it from me to spare my life in any time of trouble: for I am not better than my brethren.

13:5  A já abych si teď v tomto čase útlaku chtěl zachovat život? Nikdy! Nezasloužím si přece víc než moji bratři.

13:5  Et nunc non mihi contingat parcere animæ meæ in omni tempore tribulationis : non enim melior sum fratribus meis.

13:6  I will avenge then my nation and the sanctuary, and our children, and wives: for all the heathens are gathered together to destroy us out of mere malice.

13:6  Naopak pomstím svůj národ a svatyni i vaše ženy a děti, teď když se všichni pohané z nenávisti spolčili, aby nás zničili.“

13:6  Vindicabo itaque gentem meam, et sancta, natos quoque nostros, et uxores : quia congregatæ sunt universæ gentes conterere nos inimicitiæ gratia.

13:7  And the spirit of the people was enkindled as soon as they heard these words:

13:7  Jakmile lidé vyslechli ta slova, znovu se v nich probudila odvaha

13:7  Et accensus est spiritus populi simul ut audivit sermones istos :

13:8  And they answered with a loud voice, saying: Thou art our leader in the place of Judas, and Jonathan, thy brother:

13:8  a začali hlasitě volat: „Ty jsi naším vůdcem namísto svých bratří Judy a Jonatana!

13:8  et responderunt voce magna, dicentes : Tu es dux noster loco Judæ, et Jonathæ fratris tui :

13:9  Fight thou our battles, and we will do whatsoever thou shalt say to us.

13:9  Veď náš boj! Uděláme všechno, co nám přikážeš!“

13:9  pugna prælium nostrum : et omnia, quæcumque dixeris nobis, faciemus.

13:10  So gathering together all the men of war, he made haste to finish all the walls of Jerusalem, and he fortified it round about.

13:10  A tak shromáždil všechny bojovníky, urychlil dostavbu jeruzalémských hradeb a opevnil město ze všech stran.

13:10  Et congregans omnes viros bellatores, acceleravit consummare universos muros Jerusalem, et munivit eam in gyro.

13:11  And he sent Jonathan, the son of Absalom, and with him a new army, into Joppe, and he cast out them that were in it, and himself remained there.

13:11  Potom poslal Jonatana, syna Abšalomova, s dost silným vojskem do Joppy. Ten vyhnal místní obyvatele a usadil se tam.

13:11  Et misit Jonathan filium Absalomi, et cum eo exercitum novum in Joppen, et ejectis his qui erant in ea, remansit illic ipse.

13:12  And Tryphon removed from Ptolemais with a great army, to invade the land of Juda, and Jonathan was with him in custody.

13:12  Tryfon pak vytáhl s mohutným vojskem z Ptolemaidy, aby vtrhl do Judska, a vedl s sebou Jonatana jako zajatce.

13:12  Et movit Tryphon a Ptolemaida cum exercitu multo, ut veniret in terram Juda, et Jonathas cum eo in custodia.

13:13  But Simon pitched in Addus, over against the plain.

13:13  Šimon se tedy utábořil v Chadídě naproti pláni.

13:13  Simon autem applicuit in Addus contra faciem campi.

13:14  And when Tryphon understood that Simon was risen up in the place of his brother, Jonathan, and that he meant to join battle with him, he sent messengers to him,

13:14  Když se Tryfon dozvěděl, že Šimon nastoupil na místo svého bratra Jonatana a chce s ním bojovat, poslal k němu vyslance se vzkazem:

13:14  Et ut cognovit Tryphon quia surrexit Simon loco fratris sui Jonathæ, et quia commissurus esset cum eo prælium, misit ad eum legatos,

13:15  Saying: We have detained thy brother, Jonathan, for the money that he owed in the king's account, by reason of the affairs which he had the management of.

13:15  „Tvého bratra Jonatana držíme v zajetí kvůli penězům, které dlužil královské pokladně za svá privilegia.

13:15  dicens : Pro argento, quod debebat frater tuus Jonathas in ratione regis propter negotia quæ habuit, detinuimus eum.

13:16  But now send a hundred talents of silver, and his two sons for hostages, that when he is set at liberty he may not revolt from us, and we will release him.

13:16  Pošli tedy 100 talentů stříbra a dva jeho syny jako rukojmí (aby se proti nám po propuštění nevzbouřil), a propustíme ho.“

13:16  Et nunc mitte argenti talenta centum, et duos filios ejus obsides, ut non dimissus fugiat a nobis, et remittemus eum.

13:17  Now Simon knew that he spoke deceitfully to him; nevertheless, he ordered the money and the children to be sent, lest he should bring upon himself a great hatred of the people of Israel, who might have said:

13:17  Šimon pochopil, že to byla lstivá slova, přesto však poslal pro peníze i pro chlapce. Nechtěl totiž u lidu vyvolat bouři nevole,

13:17  Et cognovit Simon quia cum dolo loqueretur secum : jussit tamen dari argentum et pueros, ne inimicitiam magnam sumeret ad populum Israël, dicentem :

13:18  Because he sent not the money and the children therefore is he lost.

13:18  kdyby si řekli: „Jonatan zahynul jen proto, že Šimon neposlal peníze a chlapce.“

13:18  Quia non misit ei argentum, et pueros, propterea periit.

13:19  So he sent the children and the hundred talents and he lied, and did not let Jonathan go.

13:19  A tak oba chlapce i těch 100 talentů poslal, ale Tryfon ho podvedl a Jonatana nepropustil.

13:19  Et misit pueros, et centum talenta : et mentitus est, et non dimisit Jonathan.

13:20  And after this, Tryphon entered within the country, to destroy it: and they went about by the way that leadeth to Ador: and Simon and his army marched to every place whithersoever they went.

13:20  Tryfon se vydal na pochod, aby vtrhl do země a zpustošil ji. Šli ale oklikou přes Adorajim a Šimon je se svým vojskem sledoval po celé trase, kudy šli.

13:20  Et post hæc venit Tryphon intra regionem, ut contereret eam : et gyraverunt per viam quæ ducit Ador : et Simon et castra ejus ambulabant in omnem locum quocumque ibant.

13:21  And they that were in the castle, sent messengers to Tryphon, that he should make haste to come through the desert, and send them victuals.

13:21  Posádka jeruzalémského hradu vysílala za Tryfonem posly a naléhala, aby k nim co nejrychleji vyrazil přes poušť a poslal jim jídlo.

13:21  Qui autem in arce erant, miserunt ad Tryphonem legatos, ut festinaret venire per desertum, et mitteret illis alimonias.

13:22  And Tryphon made ready all his horsemen to come that night; but there fell a very great snow, and he came not into the country of Galaad.

13:22  Přichystal tedy všechnu svou jízdu na cestu, ale té noci napadla veliká spousta sněhu. Kvůli tomu sněžení za nimi nemohl vyrazit, a tak odtáhl a zamířil do Gileádu.

13:22  Et paravit Tryphon omnem equitatum, ut veniret illa nocte : erat autem nix multa valde, et non venit in Galaaditim.

13:23  And when he approached to Bascama, he slew Jonathan and his sons there.

13:23  Když se přiblížil k Baskamě, zabil Jonatana a tam ho pochovali.

13:23  Et cum appropinquasset Bascaman, occidit Jonathan et filios ejus illic.

13:24  And Tryphon returned, and went into his own country.

13:24  Odtud se pak Tryfon vrátil zpátky do své země.

13:24  Et convertit Tryphon, et abiit in terram suam.

13:25  And Simon sent, and took the bones of Jonathan, his brother, and buried them in Modin, the city of his fathers.

13:25  Šimon poslal pro ostatky svého bratra Jonatana a pohřbil ho v Modiinu, městě svých otců.

13:25  Et misit Simon, et accepit ossa Jonathæ fratris sui, et sepelivit ea in Modin civitate patrum ejus.

13:26  And all Israel bewailed him with great lamentation: and they mourned for him many days.

13:26  Celý Izrael ho oplakával s velikým nářkem a truchlili nad ním mnoho dní.

13:26  Et planxerunt eum omnis Israël planctu magno, et luxerunt eum dies multos.

13:27  And Simon built over the sepulchre of his father and of his brethren, a building lofty to the sight, of polished stone, behind and before:

13:27  Šimon pak nad hrobem svého otce a svých bratrů vybudoval pomník z kamene hlazeného zepředu i zezadu a vysoký, aby byl vidět zdálky.

13:27  Et ædificavit Simon super sepulchrum patris sui et fratrum suorum ædificium altum visu, lapide polito retro et ante.

13:28  And he set up seven pyramids, one against another, for his father, and his mother, and his four brethren:

13:28  Postavil také sedm pyramid, jednu proti druhé, pro svého otce a matku a čtyři bratry.

13:28  Et statuit septem pyramidas, unam contra unam, patri et matri, et quatuor fratribus :

13:29  And round about these he set great pillars; and upon the pillars, arms, for a perpetual memory; and by the arms, ships carved, which might be seen by all that sailed on the sea.

13:29  Kolem nich vztyčil kolonádu s mohutnými sloupy, jež na věčnou památku ozdobil zbrojí. Kromě zbroje tam byly vytesané lodě, aby se jimi mohli kochat všichni mořeplavci.

13:29  et his circumposuit columnas magnas : et super columnas arma, ad memoriam æternam : et juxta arma naves sculptas, quæ viderentur ab omnibus navigantibus mare :

13:30  This is the sepulchre that he made in Modin, even unto this day.

13:30  Takovou hrobku vybudoval v Modiinu; stojí tam až dodnes.

13:30  hoc est sepulchrum, quod fecit in Modin usque in hunc diem.

13:31  But Tryphon, when he was upon a journey with the young king, Antiochus, treacherously slew him.

13:31  Tryfon zacházel s mladičkým králem Antiochem lstivě a nakonec ho dal zabít.

13:31  Tryphon autem cum iter faceret cum Antiocho rege adolescente, dolo occidit eum :

13:32  And he reigned in his place, and put on the crown of Asia: and brought great evils upon the land.

13:32  Stal se králem místo něj, nasadil si na hlavu syrskou korunu a napáchal v zemi mnoho zla.

13:32  et regnavit loco ejus, et imposuit sibi diadema Asiæ, et fecit plagam magnam in terra.

13:33  And Simon built up the strong holds of Judea, fortifying them with high towers, and great walls, and gates and bars: and he stored up victuals in the fortresses.

13:33  Šimon vybudoval judské pevnosti, obehnal je silnými hradbami s vysokými věžemi, s branami a závorami a uskladnil v pevnostech potraviny.

13:33  Et ædificavit Simon præsidia Judææ, muniens ea turribus excelsis, et muris magnis, et portis, et seris : et posuit alimenta in munitionibus.

13:34  And Simon chose men, and sent to king Demetrius, to the end that he should grant an immunity to the land; for all that Tryphon did, was to spoil.

13:34  Vybral a vyslance a poslal je ke králi Demetriovi, aby dal zemi úlevy, protože Tryfon stále jen loupil.

13:34  Et elegit Simon viros, et misit ad Demetrium regem ut faceret remissionem regioni : quia actus omnes Tryphonis per direptionem fuerant gesti.

13:35  And king Demetrius, in answer to this request, wrote a letter in this manner:

13:35  Král Demetrios mu na jeho žádost odpověděl a napsal mu dopis tohoto znění:

13:35  Et Demetrius rex ad verba ista respondit ei, et scripsit epistolam talem :

13:36  King Demetrius to Simon, the high priest, and friend of kings, and to the ancients, and to the nation of the Jews, greeting:

13:36  Král Demetrios zdraví přítele králů, velekněze Šimona, a celý židovský národ s jeho staršími.

13:36  Rex Demetrius Simoni summo sacerdoti et amico regum, et senioribus, et genti Judæorum, salutem.

13:37  The golden crown, and the palm, which you sent, we have received: and we are ready to make a firm peace with you, and to write to the king's chief officers to release you the things that we have released.

13:37  Zlatý věnec a palmovou ratolest, které jste poslali, přijímáme a jsme připraveni uzavřít s vámi trvalý mír. Úředníkům napíšeme, ať vám poskytnou daňové úlevy.

13:37  Coronam auream, et bahem, quam misistis, suscepimus : et parati sumus facere vobiscum pacem magnam, et scribere præpositis regis remittere vobis quæ indulsimus.

13:38  For all that we have decreed in your favour shall stand in force. The strong holds that you have built, shall be your own.

13:38  Všechny výsady, jež jsme vám udělili, zůstávají v platnosti. Pevnosti, které jste vybudovali, vám patří.

13:38  Quæcumque enim constituimus, vobis constant : munitiones, quas ædificastis, vobis sint :

13:39  And as for any oversight or fault committed unto this day, we forgive it: and the crown which you owed: and if any other thing were taxed in Jerusalem, now let it not be taxed.

13:39  Odpouštíme všechny dosavadní chyby a omyly, jakož i peněžní daň koruně, kterou jste dlužili. Jakékoli další daně se v Jeruzalémě vybíraly, nadále se vybírat přestanou.

13:39  remittimus quoque ignorantias et peccata usque in hodiernum diem, et coronam quam debebatis : et si quid aliud erat tributarium in Jerusalem, jam non sit tributarium.

13:40  And if any of you be fit to be enrolled among ours, let them be enrolled, and let there be peace between us.

13:40  A jestliže jsou někteří z vás způsobilí k zapsání do naší osobní stráže, nechť se přihlásí. Kéž mezi námi panuje mír!

13:40  Et si qui ex vobis apti sunt conscribi inter nostros, conscribantur, et sit inter nos pax.

13:41  In the year one hundred and seventy, the yoke of the Gentiles was taken off from Israel.

13:41  Tak byl roku 170 Izrael zbaven jha pohanů

13:41  Anno centesimo septuagesimo, ablatum est jugum gentium ab Israël.

13:42  And the people of Israel began to write in the instruments, and public records, The first year under Simon, the high priest, the great captain, and prince of the Jews.

13:42  a lidé začali ve svých listinách a smlouvách uvádět: „V prvním roce vlády Šimona, velikého velekněze, vojevůdce a vládce Židů.“

13:42  Et cœpit populus Israël scribere in tabulis, et gestis publicis, anno primo sub Simone summo sacerdote, magno duce, et principe Judæorum.

13:43  In those days Simon besieged Gaza, and camped round about it, and he made engines, and set them to the city, and he struck one tower, and took it.

13:43  V těch dnech se Šimon utábořil před Gezerem, oblehl ho vojsky a začal ho dobývat. Postavil obléhací věž, přisunul ji k městu, prolomil jednu z hradebních věží a města se zmocnil.

13:43  In diebus illis applicuit Simon ad Gazam, et circumdedit eam castris, et fecit machinas, et applicuit ad civitatem, et percussit turrem unam, et comprehendit eam.

13:44  And they that were within the engine leapt into the city: and there was a great uproar in the city.

13:44  Vojáci z obléhací věže vyskákali do města a nastal veliký rozruch.

13:44  Et eruperant qui erant intra machinam in civitatem, et factus est motus magnus in civitate.

13:45  And they that were in the city went up, with their wives and children, upon the wall, with their garments rent, and they cried with a loud voice, beseeching Simon to grant them peace.

13:45  Obyvatelé města vystoupili se ženami a dětmi na hradby, roucha roztržená, a s hlasitým křikem prosili Šimona o mír:

13:45  Et ascenderunt qui erant in civitate cum uxoribus et filiis supra murum, scissis tunicis suis, et clamaverunt voce magna, postulantes a Simone dextras sibi dari,

13:46  And they said: Deal not with us according to our evil deeds, but according to thy mercy.

13:46  „Nezacházej s námi podle našich špatností, ale podle svého milosrdenství!“

13:46  et dixerunt : Non nobis reddas secundum malitias nostras, sed secundum misericordias tuas.

13:47  And Simon being moved, did not destroy them but yet he cast them out of the city, and cleansed the houses wherein there had been idols, and then he entered into it with hymns, blessing the Lord:

13:47  Šimon tedy s nimi uzavřel dohodu a ukončil obléhání. Vyhnal je však z města, dal očistit domy, ve kterých byly modly, a teprve potom vstoupil do města s chvalozpěvy a dobrořečením.

13:47  Et flexus Simon, non debellavit eos : ejecit tamen eos de civitate, et mundavit ædes in quibus fuerant simulacra, et tunc intravit in eam cum hymnis benedicens Dominum :

13:48  And having cast out of it all uncleanness, he placed in it men that should observe the law: and he fortified it, and made it his habitation.

13:48  Vymýtil odtamtud všechnu nečistotu a usadil tam muže, kteří žili podle Zákona, posílil opevnění a vybudoval si tam sídlo.

13:48  et ejecta ab ea omni immunditia, collocavit in ea viros qui legem facerent : et munivit eam, et fecit sibi habitationem.

13:49  But they that were in the castle of Jerusalem were hindered from going out and coming into the country, and from buying and selling: and they were straitened with hunger, and many of them perished through famine.

13:49  Židé mezitím bránili posádce jeruzalémského hradu vycházet do kraje a cokoli nakupovat nebo prodávat. Na hradě byl hrozný nedostatek jídla a dost z nich hlady pomřelo.

13:49  Qui autem erant in arce Jerusalem, prohibebantur egredi et ingredi regionem, et emere ac vendere : et esurierunt valde, et multi ex eis fame perierunt,

13:50  And they cried to Simon for peace, and he granted it to them: and he cast them out from thence and cleansed the castle from uncleannesses.

13:50  Nakonec začali volat k Šimonovi s prosbou o mír a on jim vyhověl. Vyhnal je ale odtud a očistil hrad od poskvrnění.

13:50  et clamaverunt ad Simonem ut dextras acciperent : et dedit illis : et ejecit eos inde, et mundavit arcem a contaminationibus :

13:51  And they entered into it the three and twentieth day of the second month, in the year one hundred and seventy-one, with thanksgiving, and branches of palm trees, and harps, and cymbals, and psalteries, and hymns, and canticles, because the great enemy was destroyed out of Israel.

13:51  Třiadvacátého dne druhého měsíce roku 171 vešli do města se zpěvem a palmovými ratolestmi, s harfami, citerami a činely, s písněmi a chvalozpěvy, protože byl z Izraele vypuzen úhlavní nepřítel.

13:51  et intraverunt in eam tertia et vigesima die secundi mensis, anno centesimo septuagesimo primo, cum laude, et ramis palmarum, et cinyris, et cymbalis, et nablis, et hymnis, et canticis, quia contritus est inimicus magnus ex Israël.

13:52  And he ordained that these days should be kept every year with gladness.

13:52  Šimon stanovil, aby se tento den radostně slavil rok co rok. Zesílil pak opevnění chrámové hory na straně k hradu a usadil se tam se svými muži.

13:52  Et constituit ut omnibus annis agerentur dies hi cum lætitia.

13:53  And he fortified the mountain of the temple that was near the castle, and he dwelt there himself, and they that were with him.

13:53  Když Šimon viděl, že jeho syn Jan dospěl v muže, ustanovil ho velitelem všech vojsk. Jan se pak usadil v Gezeru.

13:53  Et munivit montem templi, qui erat secus arcem, et habitavit ibi ipse, et qui cum eo erant.

13:54  And Simon saw that John, his son, was a valiant man for war: and he made him captain of all the forces: and he dwelt in Gazara.

13:54  Et vidit Simon Joannem filium suum, quod fortis prælii vir esset : et posuit eum ducem virtutum universarum : et habitavit in Gazaris.
