Chapter 8
John Godbey 8:12  Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, I am the light of the world: the one following me can not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of the life.
John Godbey 8:13  Then the Pharisees said to Him, Thou art testifying concerning thyself; Thy testimony is not true. And Jesus responded and said to them,
John Godbey 8:14  If I testify concerning myself, my testimony is true; for I know whence I came, and whither I go. You know not whence I come, or whither I go.
John Godbey 8:15  You judge according to the flesh; I judge no one.
John Godbey 8:16  If I judge, my judgment is true; because I am not alone, but I and the One having sent me.
John Godbey 8:17  And it has been written in our law, that the testimony of two men is true.
John Godbey 8:18  I am the one testifying concerning myself, and the Father having sent me, testifies concerning me.
John Godbey 8:19  Then they said to Him, Where is thy Father? Jesus responded; You know neither me nor my Father; if you knew me, you would also know my Father.
John Godbey 8:20  He spoke these words in the treasury, teaching in the temple: and no one arrested Him; because His hour had not yet come.
John Godbey 8:21  Then He again said to them, I go away, and you will seek me, and you will die in your sin: whither I go you are not able to come.
John Godbey 8:22  Then the Jews were saying, Whether will He kill Himself, because He says, Whither I go away, you are not able to come?
John Godbey 8:23  And He said to them, You are from beneath; I am from above: you are of this world; I am not of this world.
John Godbey 8:24  Therefore I said to you, that you shall die in your sins: for if you may not believe that I am He, you shall die in your sins.
John Godbey 8:25  Then they said to Him, Who art thou? And Jesus said to them, Even that which I also speak to you from the beginning.
John Godbey 8:26  I have many things to speak and to judge concerning you; but the One having sent me is true; those things which I heard with Him, these I speak to the world.
John Godbey 8:27  They did not know that He spoke to them concerning the Father.
John Godbey 8:28  Then Jesus said, When you may lift up the Son of man, then you shall know that I am He, and I do nothing of myself, but as the Father has taught me, I speak the same things.
John Godbey 8:29  Truly the One having sent me is with me; He has not left me alone; because I always do those things which are pleasing to Him.
John Godbey 8:30  He speaking these things, many believed on Him.
John Godbey 8:31  Then Jesus said to the Jews, who believed on Him, If you may abide in my word, you are truly my disciples;
John Godbey 8:32  and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
John Godbey 8:33  They responded to Him, we are the seed of Abraham, and have never been in bondage to any one: How do You say, that you shall be free?
John Godbey 8:34  Jesus responded to them, Truly, truly, I say unto you, That every one doing sin is the slave of sin.
John Godbey 8:35  But the slave abides not in the house forever; the Son abides forever.
John Godbey 8:36  If therefore the Son may make you free, you shall be free indeed.
John Godbey 8:37  I know ye are the seed of Abraham; but you seek to kill me, because my word has no place in you.
John Godbey 8:38  Whatsoever I have seen with the Father I speak: you therefore are doing the things which you heard with your father.
John Godbey 8:39  They responded and said to Him, Abraham is our Father. Jesus says to them, If you were the children of Abraham, you would do the works of Abraham.
John Godbey 8:40  But now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth, which I heard with God: Abraham did not this.
John Godbey 8:41  You are doing the works of your father. They said to Him, We are not born of fornication; we have one Father, God.
John Godbey 8:42  Jesus said to them; If God were your Father, you would love me: for I came out from God, and I return; for I have not spoken from myself, but He sent me.
John Godbey 8:43  Wherefore do you not understand my speech? Because you are not able to hear my word.
John Godbey 8:44  You are of your father the devil, and you wish to do the lusts of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and stood not in the truth, because there was no truth in him. When he may speak a lie, he speaks of his own: because he is a liar, and the father of the same.
John Godbey 8:45  And because I speak the truth, you do not believe me.
John Godbey 8:46  Which one of you convicts me concerning sin? If I speak the truth, why do you not believe me?
John Godbey 8:47  The one being of God hears the words of God: on account of this you do not hear, because you are not of God.
John Godbey 8:48  The Jews responded and said to Him, Do we not truly say that you are a Samaritan, and have a demon?
John Godbey 8:49  Jesus responded, I have not a demon; but I honor my Father, and you dishonor me.
John Godbey 8:50  But I do not seek my own glory: there is One seeking and judging.
John Godbey 8:51  Truly, truly, I say unto you, if any one may keep my word, he may never see death.
John Godbey 8:52  The Jews said to Him, Now we know that thou hast a demon. Abraham and the prophets are dead; and thou sayest, If any one may keep my word, he may never taste death.
John Godbey 8:53  Whether art thou greater than our father Abraham, who died? and the prophets died: whom do you make yourself?
John Godbey 8:54  Jesus responded, If I may glorify myself, my glory is nothing: my Father is the one glorifying me; whom you say, that, He is our God;
John Godbey 8:55  indeed you do not know Him: but I know Him. If I may say, I know Him not, I will be a liar like you: but I know Him, and I keep His word.
John Godbey 8:56  Abraham, our father, rejoiced that he might see my day; he saw it, and was glad.
John Godbey 8:57  Then the Jews said to Him, You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham?
John Godbey 8:58  Jesus said unto them, Truly, truly, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
John Godbey 8:59  Then they took up stones that they might cast at Him: and Jesus was hidden, and departed out from the temple.
