12:1  And Jonathan saw that the time served him, and he chose certain men, and sent them to Rome, to confirm and to renew the amity with them:

12:1  Když Jonatan viděl, že je příhodná chvíle, poslal vybrané vyslance do Říma, aby s Římany obnovil a upevnil přátelství.

12:1  Et vidit Jonathas quia tempus eum juvat, et elegit viros, et misit eos Romam statuere et renovare cum eis amicitiam :

12:2  And he sent letters to the Spartans, and to other places, according to the same form.

12:2  Obdobné listy rozeslal také do Sparty a do dalších míst.

12:2  et ad Spartiatas, et ad alia loca misit epistolas secundum eamdem formam :

12:3  And they went to Rome, and entered into the senate house, and said: Jonathan, the high priest, and the nation of the Jews, have sent us to renew the amity, and alliance, as it was before.

12:3  Poslové se vydali do Říma, vešli do senátu a promluvili: „Velekněz Jonatan a židovský národ nás poslali obnovit naše dřívější přátelství a spojenectví.“

12:3  et abierunt Romam, et intraverunt curiam, et dixerunt : Jonathas summus sacerdos, et gens Judæorum miserunt nos, ut renovaremus amicitiam et societatem secundum pristinum.

12:4  And they gave them letters to their governors in every place, to conduct them into the land of Juda with peace.

12:4  Senát jim pak vystavil průvodní listy pro příslušné místní úřady k zajištění bezpečného návratu do Judska.

12:4  Et dederunt illis epistolas ad ipsos per loca, ut deducerent eos in terram Juda cum pace.

12:5  And this is a copy of the letters which Jonathan wrote to the Spartans:

12:5  Zde je znění listu, který Jonatan napsal Sparťanům:

12:5  Et hoc est exemplum epistolarum, quas scripsit Jonathas Spartiatis :

12:6  Jonathan, the high priest, and the ancients of the nation, and the priests, and the rest of the people of the Jews, to the Spartans, their brethren, greeting.

12:6  Velekněz Jonatan, národní rada starších, kněží a ostatní židovský lid zdraví své bratry Sparťany.

12:6  Jonathas summus sacerdos, et seniores gentis, et sacerdotes, et reliquus populus Judæorum, Spartiatis fratribus salutem.

12:7  There were letters sent long ago to Onias the high priest, from Arius, who reigned then among you to signify that you are our brethren, as the copy here underwritten doth specify.

12:7  Váš král Areios kdysi poslal našemu veleknězi Oniášovi list, v němž zmiňuje naše bratrství, jak dokládá přiložený opis.

12:7  Jampridem missæ erant epistolæ ad Oniam summum sacerdotem ab Ario, qui regnabat apud vos, quoniam estis fratres nostri, sicut rescriptum continet, quod subjectum est.

12:8  And Onias received the ambassador with honour and received the letters, wherein there was mention made of the alliance, and amity.

12:8  Oniáš přijal vašeho vyslance s poctami a převzal list, v němž se výslovně mluví o našem spojenectví a přátelství.

12:8  Et suscepit Onias virum, qui missus fuerat, cum honore : et accepit epistolas, in quibus significabatur de societate et amicitia.

12:9  We, though we needed none of these things having for our comfort the holy books that are in our hands,

12:9  Nemáme to sice zapotřebí, jelikož nacházíme posilu ve svých svatých knihách,

12:9  Nos cum nullo horum indigeremus, habentes solatio sanctos libros, qui sunt in manibus nostris,

12:10  Chose rather to send to you to renew the brotherhood and friendship, lest we should become stranger to you altogether: for there is a long time passed since you sent to us.

12:10  přesto jsme se ale rozhodli obnovit s vámi tímto listem bratrství a přátelství, abychom se vám neodcizili. Vždyť od doby, kdy jste nám svůj list poslali, už uplynul dlouhý čas.

12:10  maluimus mittere ad vos renovare fraternitatem et amicitiam, ne forte alieni efficiamur a vobis : multa enim tempora transierunt, ex quo misistis ad nos.

12:11  We, therefore, at all times without ceasing, both in our festivals, and other days wherein it is convenient, remember you in the sacrifices that we offer, and in our observances, as it is meet and becoming to remember brethren.

12:11  Vždy a stále na vás pamatujeme při obětech, které přinášíme o svátcích i ostatních stanovených dnech, a také při modlitbách, neboť se sluší a patří pamatovat na bratry.

12:11  Nos ergo in omni tempore sine intermissione in diebus solemnibus, et ceteris, quibus oportet, memores sumus vestri in sacrificiis quæ offerimus, et in observationibus, sicut fas est, et decet meminisse fratrum.

12:12  And we rejoice at your glory.

12:12  Radujeme se z vaší slávy,

12:12  Lætamur itaque de gloria vestra.

12:13  But we have had many troubles and wars on every side; and the kings that are round about us have fought against us.

12:13  na nás však ze všech stran dolehla mnohá soužení a četné války, když na nás útočili králové z našeho okolí.

12:13  Nos autem circumdederunt multæ tribulationes, et multa prælia, et impugnaverunt nos reges qui sunt in circuitu nostro.

12:14  But we would not be troublesome to you, nor to the rest of our allies and friends, in these wars.

12:14  Nechtěli jsme ale vás ani ostatní spojence a přátele kvůli těmto válkám obtěžovat.

12:14  Noluimus ergo vobis molesti esse, neque ceteris sociis et amicis nostris in his præliis :

12:15  For we have had help from heaven, and we have been delivered, and our enemies are humbled.

12:15  Máme přece nebeskou pomoc, jejímž přispěním jsme byli osvobozeni od nepřátel a naši nepřátelé byli pokořeni.

12:15  habuimus enim de cælo auxilium, et liberati sumus nos, et humiliati sunt inimici nostri.

12:16  We have chosen, therefore, Numenius the son of Antiochus, and Antipater, the son of Jason, and have sent them to the Romans, to renew with them the former amity and alliance.

12:16  Vybrali jsme proto Numenia, syna Antiochova, a Antipatra, syna Jásonova, a poslali je k Římanům, aby obnovili naše dřívější přátelství a spojenectví s nimi.

12:16  Elegimus itaque Numenium Antiochi filium, et Antipatrem Jasonis filium, et misimus ad Romanos renovare cum eis amicitiam et societatem pristinam.

12:17  And we have commanded them to go also to you, and salute you, and to deliver you our letters, concerning the renewing of our brotherhood.

12:17  Uložili jsme jim, aby se vypravili také k vám, vyřídili vám pozdravy a předali vám náš dopis o obnově našeho bratrství.

12:17  Mandavimus itaque eis ut veniant etiam ad vos, et salutent vos, et reddant vobis epistolas nostras de innovatione fraternitatis nostræ.

12:18  And now you shall do well to give us an answer hereto.

12:18  Budeme tedy rádi, když nám na to odpovíte.

12:18  Et nunc benefacietis respondentes nobis ad hæc.

12:19  And this is the copy of the letter which he had sent to Onias:

12:19  Zde je znění listu, který kdysi Sparťané poslali Oniášovi:

12:19  Et hoc est rescriptum epistolarum quod miserat Oniæ :

12:20  Arius, king of the Spartans, to Onias, the high priest, greeting.

12:20  Spartský král Areios zdraví velikého kněze Oniáše.

12:20  Arius rex Spartiatarum Oniæ sacerdoti magno salutem.

12:21  It is found in writing concerning the Spartans, and the Jews, that they are brethren, and that they are of the stock of Abraham.

12:21  V jednom spisu se našla zmínka, že Sparťané a Židé jsou bratři a že společně pocházíme z rodu Abrahamova.

12:21  Inventum est in scriptura de Spartiatis, et Judæis, quoniam sunt fratres, et quod sunt de genere Abraham.

12:22  And now since this is come to our knowledge, you do well to write to us of your prosperity.

12:22  Nyní, když jsme se to dozvěděli, budeme rádi, když nám napíšete, jak se vám daří.

12:22  Et nunc ex quo hæc cognovimus, benefacitis scribentes nobis de pace vestra.

12:23  And we also have written back to you, That our cattle, and our possessions, are yours: and yours, ours. We, therefore, have commanded that these things should be told you.

12:23  My vám píšeme toto: vaše stáda a vaše majetky jsou naše a naše zase vaše. Ukládáme svým vyslancům, aby vám toto vyřídili.

12:23  Sed et nos rescripsimus vobis : Pecora nostra, et possessiones nostræ, vestræ sunt : et vestræ, nostræ : mandavimus itaque hæc nuntiari vobis.

12:24  Now Jonathan heard that the generals of Demetrius were come again with a greater army than before to fight against him.

12:24  Jonatan dostal zprávu, že Demetriovi velitelé přitáhli znovu – s ještě větším vojskem než dříve – a chtějí s ním válčit.

12:24  Et audivit Jonathas quoniam regressi sunt principes Demetrii cum exercitu multo supra quam prius, pugnare adversus eum :

12:25  So he went out from Jerusalem, and met them in the land of Amath: for he gave them no time to enter into his country.

12:25  Vyrazil tedy z Jeruzaléma a táhl jim naproti do chamátského kraje, aby jim zabránil ve vpádu na své území.

12:25  et exiit ab Jerusalem, et occurrit eis in Amathite regione : non enim dederat eis spatium ut ingrederentur regionem ejus.

12:26  And he sent spies into their camp, and they came back, and brought him word that they designed to come upon them in the night.

12:26  Vyslal do jejich tábora zvědy a ti mu po návratu oznámili, že se ho nepřátelé chystají v noci napadnout.

12:26  Et misit speculatores in castra eorum : et reversi renuntiaverunt quod constituunt supervenire illis nocte.

12:27  And when the sun was set, Jonathan commanded his men to watch, and to be in arms all night long ready to fight, and he set sentinels round about the camp.

12:27  Po západu slunce proto Jonatan vydal svým mužům rozkaz, aby bděli ve zbrani a celou noc drželi bojovou pohotovost. Kolem tábora také rozestavěl stráže.

12:27  Cum occidisset autem sol, præcepit Jonathas suis vigilare, et esse in armis paratos ad pugnam tota nocte : et posuit custodes per circuitum castrorum.

12:28  And the enemies heard that Jonathan and his men were ready for battle: and they were struck with fear and dread in their heart: and they kindled fires in their camp.

12:28  Když se nepřátelé dozvěděli, že Jonatan je se svými muži připraven k boji, zachvátil je strach a hrůza. Nechali ve svém táboře hořet ohně a vytratili se.

12:28  Et audierunt adversarii quod paratus est Jonathas cum suis in bello : et timuerunt, et formidaverunt in corde suo : et accenderunt focos in castris suis.

12:29  But Jonathan, and they that were with him, knew it not till the morning: for they saw the lights burning.

12:29  Jonatan a jeho muži o tom až do rána nevěděli, protože viděli hořící ohně.

12:29  Jonathas autem, et qui cum eo erant, non cognoverunt usque mane : videbant autem luminaria ardentia,

12:30  And Jonathan pursued after them, but overtook them not: for they had passed the river Eleutherus.

12:30  Pustili se za nimi, ale už je nedostihli, protože nepřátelé mezitím překročili řeku Eleuteros.

12:30  et secutus est eos Jonathas, et non comprehendit eos : transierant enim flumen Eleutherum.

12:31  And Jonathan turned upon the Arabians, that are called Zabadeans: and he defeated them, and took the spoils of them.

12:31  Jonatan se tedy obrátil proti arabskému kmeni Zabadejců, porazil je a obral o kořist.

12:31  Et divertit Jonathas ad Arabas, qui vocantur Zabadæi : et percussit eos, et accepit spolia eorum.

12:32  And he went forward, and came to Damascus, and passed through all that country.

12:32  Potom táhl dál až do Damašku, odkud procházel celý ten kraj.

12:32  Et junxit, et venit Damascum, et perambulabat omnem regionem illam.

12:33  Simon also went forth, and came as far as Ascalon, and the neighbouring fortresses, and he turned aside to Joppe, and took possession of it,

12:33  Šimon mezitím také podnikl tažení. Postoupil až k Aškelonu a okolním pevnostem, načež se obrátil k Joppě a dobyl ji.

12:33  Simon autem exiit, et venit usque ad Ascalonem, et ad proxima præsidia : et declinavit in Joppen, et occupavit eam

12:34  (For he heard that they designed to deliver the hold to them that took part with Demetrius) and he put a garrison there to keep it.

12:34  Dozvěděl se totiž, že místní chtějí pevnost vydat Demetriovým mužům. Zřídil tam tedy posádku, aby město hlídala.

12:34  (audivit enim quod vellent præsidium tradere partibus Demetrii), et posuit ibi custodes ut custodirent eam.

12:35  And Jonathan came back, and called together the ancients of the people; and he took a resolution with them to build fortresses in Judea,

12:35  Když se Jonatan vrátil, svolal starší lidu a radil se s nimi, že je potřeba vystavět v Judsku pevnosti,

12:35  Et reversus est Jonathas, et convocavit seniores populi, et cogitavit cum eis ædificare præsidia in Judæa,

12:36  And to build up walls in Jerusalem, and raise a mount between the castle and the city, to separate it from the city, that so it might have no communication, and that they might neither buy nor sell.

12:36  zvýšit jeruzalémské hradby a vztyčit vysokou zeď mezi hradem a zbytkem města. Hrad měl být od města oddělen a odloučen, aby jeho posádka nemohla nic nakupovat ani prodávat.

12:36  et ædificare muros in Jerusalem, et exaltare altitudinem magnam inter medium arcis et civitatis, ut separaret eam a civitate, ut esset ipsa singulariter, et neque emant, neque vendant.

12:37  And they came together to build up the city: for the wall that was upon the brook, towards the east, was broken down, and he repaired that which is called Caphetetha:

12:37  Sešli se tedy, aby opevnili město, a Jonatan dal u potoka na východní straně opravit zřícenou část hradeb, která se jmenuje Chafenata.

12:37  Et convenerunt ut ædificarent civitatem : et cecidit murus qui erat super torrentem ab ortu solis, et reparavit eum, qui vocatur Caphetetha :

12:38  And Simon built Adiada in Sephela, and fortified it, and set up gates and bars.

12:38  Šimon pak vystavěl Chadídu v podhůří, opevnil ji a opatřil branami a závorami.

12:38  et Simon ædificavit Adiada in Sephela, et munivit eam, et imposuit portas et seras.

12:39  Now when Tryphon had conceived a design to make himself king of Asia and to take the crown, and to stretch out his hand against king Antiochus:

12:39  Tryfon toužil stát se vládcem Sýrie a nosit královskou korunu. Chystal se proto vztáhnout ruku na krále Antiocha,

12:39  Et cum cogitasset Tryphon regnare Asiæ, et assumere diadema, et extendere manum in Antiochum regem :

12:40  Fearing lest Jonathan would not suffer him, but would fight against him: he sought to seize upon him, and to kill him. So he rose up and came to Bethsan.

12:40  ale bál se, že mu v tom Jonatan zabrání a vyhlásí mu válku. Vypravil se tedy a přitáhl do Bet-šeanu, aby ho zajal a zabil.

12:40  timens ne forte non permitteret eum Jonathas, sed pugnaret adversus eum, quærebat comprehendere eum, et occidere. Et exsurgens abiit in Bethsan.

12:41  And Jonathan went out to meet him with forty thousand men chosen for battle, and came to Bethsan.

12:41  Jonatan mu ale vytáhl k Bet-šeanu naproti se 40 000 vybranými bojovníky.

12:41  Et exivit Jonathas obviam illi cum quadraginta millibus virorum electorum in prælium, et venit Bethsan.

12:42  Now when Tryphon saw that Jonathan came with a great army, he durst not stretch forth his hand against him.

12:42  Když Tryfon uviděl, s jak velikým vojskem dorazil, neodvážil se na něj vztáhnout ruku,

12:42  Et vidit Tryphon quia venit Jonathas cum exercitu multo ut extenderet in eum manus : timuit,

12:43  But received him with honour, and commended him to all his friends, and gave him presents: and he commanded his troops to obey him, as himself.

12:43  ale přijal ho s poctami, představil ho všem svým důvěrníkům, předal mu dary a nařídil všem svým pobočníkům i vojsku, ať ho poslouchají jako jeho samého.

12:43  et excepit eum cum honore, et commendavit eum omnibus amicis suis, et dedit ei munera : et præcepit exercitibus suis ut obedirent ei, sicut sibi.

12:44  And he said to Jonathan: Why hast thou troubled all the people, whereas we have no war?

12:44  Jonatanovi pak řekl: „Proč plýtváš silami celého vojska, když spolu neválčíme?

12:44  Et dixit Jonathæ : Ut quid vexasti universum populum, cum bellum nobis non sit ?

12:45  Now, therefore, send them back to their own houses: and choose thee a few men that may be with thee, and come with me to Ptolemais, and I will deliver it to thee, and the rest of the strong holds, and the army, and all that have any charge, and I will return and go away: for this is the cause of my coming.

12:45  Pošli je hned domů a vezmi si k sobě jen malou družinu, se kterou mě doprovodíš do Ptolemaidy. Chci ti to město i ostatní pevnosti předat včetně zbytku vojska a všech úředníků; potom se hned vrátím domů. Proto tu přece jsem.“

12:45  et nunc remitte eos in domos suas : elige autem tibi viros paucos, qui tecum sint, et veni mecum Ptolemaidam, et tradam eam tibi, et reliqua præsidia, et exercitum, et universos præpositos negotii : et conversus abibo : propterea enim veni.

12:46  And Jonathan believed him, and did as he said: and sent away his army, and they departed into the land of Juda:

12:46  Jonatan mu uvěřil a udělal, co řekl. Rozpustil své jednotky a ty se vrátily do Judska .

12:46  Et credidit ei, et fecit sicut dixit : et dimisit exercitum, et abierunt in terram Juda.

12:47  But he kept with him three thousand men: of whom he sent two thousand into Galilee, and one thousand went with him.

12:47  Vzal s sebou jen 3000 mužů, z nichž ještě 2000 nechal v Galileji, a tak jich s ním šlo jen 1000.

12:47  Retinuit autem secum tria millia virorum : ex quibus remisit in Galilæam duo millia : mille autem venerunt cum eo.

12:48  Now as soon as Jonathan entered into Ptolemais, they of Ptolemais shut the gates of the city, and took him: and all them that came in with him they slew with the sword.

12:48  Jakmile Jonatan vstoupil do Ptolemaidy, místní zavřeli brány, zajali ho a všechny, kdo ho doprovázeli, pobili mečem.

12:48  Ut autem intravit Ptolemaidam Jonathas, clauserunt portas civitatis Ptolemenses, et comprehenderunt eum : et omnes qui cum eo intraverant, gladio interfecerunt.

12:49  Then Tryphon sent an army and horsemen into Galilee, and into the great plain, to destroy all Jonathan's company.

12:49  Tryfon zatím poslal vojska a jízdu do Galileje a na Velkou pláň, aby pobili všechny ostatní Jonatanovy muže.

12:49  Et misit Tryphon exercitum et equites in Galilæam et in campum magnum, ut perderent omnes socios Jonathæ.

12:50  But they, when they understood that Jonathan, and all that were with him, were taken and slain, encouraged one another, and went out ready for battle.

12:50  Ti usoudili, že Jonatan byl zajat a zahynul spolu se svým doprovodem, a tak si navzájem dodali odvahy a vytáhli v sevřeném šiku do boje.

12:50  At illi cum cognovissent quia comprehensus est Jonathas, et periit, et omnes qui cum eo erant, hortati sunt semetipsos, et exierunt parati in prælium.

12:51  Then they that had come after them, seeing that they stood for their lives, returned back.

12:51  Když pronásledovatelé viděli, že Židé jsou připraveni bojovat o život, raději se vrátili.

12:51  Et videntes hi qui insecuti fuerant, quia pro anima res est illis, reversi sunt :

12:52  Whereupon they all came peaceably into the land of Juda and they bewailed Jonathan, and them that had been with him, exceedingly: and Israel mourned with great lamentation.

12:52  Všichni v pořádku dorazili do Judska a oplakávali Jonatana i jeho muže. Velice se báli a celý Izrael hluboce truchlil.

12:52  illi autem venerunt omnes cum pace in terram Juda. Et planxerunt Jonathan, et eos qui cum ipso fuerant, valde : et luxit Israël luctu magno.

12:53  Then all the heathens that were round about them, sought to destroy them. For they said:

12:53  Všichni pohané z okolí je chtěli zničit, protože si řekli: „Teď nemají vůdce ani zastánce. Pojďme s nimi bojovat a vyhladit jejich památku ze světa!“

12:53  Et quæsierunt omnes gentes quæ erant in circuitu eorum conterere eos : dixerunt enim :

12:54  They have no prince, nor any to help them: now therefore, let us make war upon them, and take away the memory of them from amongst men.

12:54  Non habent principem et adjuvantem : nunc ergo expugnemus illos, et tollamus de hominibus memoriam eorum.
