1:1  Adam, Seth, Enosh,

1:2  Kenan, Mahalalel, Jared,

1:3  Enoch, Methuselah, Lamech,

1:4  Noah: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

1:5  Japheth's descendants were Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.

1:6  Gomer's descendants were Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah.

1:7  Javan's descendants were the people from Elishah, Tarshish, Cyprus, and Rhodes.

1:8  Ham's descendants were Cush, Egypt, Put, and Canaan.

1:9  Cush's descendants were Seba, Havilah, Sabta, Raama, and Sabteca. Raama's descendants were Sheba and Dedan.

1:10  Cush was the father of Nimrod, the first mighty warrior on the earth.

1:11  Egypt was the ancestor of the Ludites, Anamites, Lehabites, Naphtuhites,

1:12  Pathrusites, Casluhites (from whom the Philistines came), and the Caphtorites.

1:13  Canaan was the father of Sidon his firstborn, then Heth,

1:14  also the Jebusites, the Amorites, the Girgashites,

1:15  the Hivites, the Arkites, the Sinites,

1:16  the Arvadites, the Zemarites, and the Hamathites.

1:17  The descendants of Shem were Elam, Asshur, Arpachshad, Lud, Aram, Uz, Hul, Gether, and Meshech.

1:18  Arpachshad was the father of Shelah, and Shelah was the father of Eber.

1:19  Two sons were born to Eber. The name of the one was Peleg Division, because in his day the earth was divided. His brother's name was Joktan.

1:20  Joktan was the father of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,

1:21  Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,

1:22  Ebal, Abimael, Sheba,

1:23  Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All these were sons of Joktan.

1:24  Shem, Arpachshad, Shelah,

1:25  Eber, Peleg, Reu,

1:26  Serug, Nahor, Terah,

1:27  Abram (that is, Abraham).

1:28  Abraham's sons were Isaac and Ishmael.

1:29  This is their list of descendants: Ishmael's firstborn was Nebaioth, then Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,

1:30  Mishma, Dumah, Massa, Hadad, Tema,

1:31  Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah. These were the sons of Ishmael.

1:32  Keturah, Abraham's concubine, gave birth to the following sons: Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah. Jokshan's sons were Sheba and Dedan.

1:33  The sons of Midian were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida, and Eldaah. All these were descendants of Keturah.

1:34  Abraham was the father of Isaac. Isaac's sons were Esau and Israel.

1:35  Esau's sons were Eliphaz, Reuel, Jeush, Jalam, and Korah.

1:36  Eliphaz's sons were Teman and Omar, Zephi and Gatam, Kenaz and Amalek, son of Timna.

1:37  Reuel's sons were Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah.

1:38  Seir's sons were Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan.

1:39  Lotan's sons were Hori and Homam. Timna was Lotan's sister.

1:40  Shobal's sons were Alian, Manahath, Ebal, Shephi, and Onam. Zibeon's sons were Aiah and Anah.

1:41  Anah's son was Dishon. Dishon's sons were Hamran, Eshban, Ithran, and Cheran.

1:42  Ezer's sons were Bilhan, Zaavan, and Jaakan. Dishan's sons were Uz and Aran.

1:43  These were the kings who ruled Edom before any king ruled the people of Israel: Bela, son of Beor, and the name of his capital city was Dinhabah.

1:44  After Bela died, Jobab, son of Zerah from Bozrah, succeeded him as king.

1:45  After Jobab died, Husham from the land of the Temanites succeeded him as king.

1:46  After Husham died, Hadad, son of Bedad, who defeated the Midianites in the country of Moab, succeeded him as king, and the name of his capital city was Avith.

1:47  After Hadad died, Samlah from Masrekah succeeded him as king.

1:48  After Samlah died, Shaul from Rehoboth on the river succeeded him as king.

1:49  After Shaul died, Baal Hanan, son of Achbor, succeeded him as king.

1:50  After Baal Hanan died, Hadad succeeded him as king, and the name of his capital city was Pai. His wife's name was Mehetabel, daughter of Matred and granddaughter of Mezahab.

1:51  Then Hadad died. The tribal leaders of Edom were Timna, Aliah, Jetheth,

1:52  Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon,

1:53  Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar,

1:54  Magdiel, and Iram. These were the tribal leaders of Edom.
