JOHN
Chapter 11
John | AFV2020 | 11:1 | Now there was a certain man who was sick, Lazarus of Bethany, which was the town of Mary and her sister Martha.
John | AFV2020 | 11:2 | And it was Mary who later anointed the Lord with ointment and wiped His feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.
John | AFV2020 | 11:3 | Therefore, the sisters sent to Him, saying, "Lord, take notice: the one whom You love is sick."
John | AFV2020 | 11:4 | But after hearing this, Jesus said, "This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified by it."
John | AFV2020 | 11:6 | But when He heard that he was sick, He deliberately remained in the same place two days.
John | AFV2020 | 11:8 | The disciples said to Him, "Master, the Jews were just seeking to stone You, and You are going there again?"
John | AFV2020 | 11:9 | Jesus answered, "Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble because he sees the light of the world.
John | AFV2020 | 11:11 | These things He said; and after that He said to them, "Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I am going so that I may awaken him."
John | AFV2020 | 11:13 | Now Jesus had spoken of his death, but they thought that He was speaking of the rest of sleep.
John | AFV2020 | 11:15 | And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, in order that you may believe. But let us go to him."
John | AFV2020 | 11:16 | Then Thomas, called Didymus, said to his fellow disciples, "Let us go also, so that we may die with Him."
John | AFV2020 | 11:17 | And so, when Jesus came, He found that he had already been lying in the tomb for four days.
John | AFV2020 | 11:19 | And many of the Jews had come to join those around Martha and Mary, so that they might console them concerning their brother.
John | AFV2020 | 11:20 | And when Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went and met Him. But Mary was sitting in the house.
John | AFV2020 | 11:21 | And Martha said to Jesus, "Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died.
John | AFV2020 | 11:24 | Martha said to Him, "I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day."
John | AFV2020 | 11:25 | Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he die, shall live again;
John | AFV2020 | 11:26 | And everyone who lives and believes in Me shall not die forever. Do you believe this? "
John | AFV2020 | 11:27 | She said to Him, "Yes, Lord; I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, Who was to come into the world."
John | AFV2020 | 11:28 | And after saying these things, she went away and secretly called her sister Mary, saying, "The Teacher has come and is calling for you."
John | AFV2020 | 11:30 | Now Jesus had not yet come into the town, but was in the place where Martha had met Him.
John | AFV2020 | 11:31 | Therefore, when the Jews who were with Mary in the house, consoling her, saw that she had quickly risen up and gone out, they followed her, saying, "She is going to the tomb to weep there."
John | AFV2020 | 11:32 | Then Mary, when she came where Jesus was and saw Him, fell at His feet, saying to Him, "Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died."
John | AFV2020 | 11:33 | As a result, when Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who came with her weeping, He groaned in spirit and was Himself inwardly moved.
John | AFV2020 | 11:37 | But some of them said, "Could not this Man, Who had the power to open the eyes of the blind, also have caused this one not to die?"
John | AFV2020 | 11:38 | Because of this, Jesus again groaned within Himself as He came to the tomb. Now it was a cave, and a stone was laid over the opening.
John | AFV2020 | 11:39 | Jesus said, "Take away the stone." Martha, the sister of him who had died, said to Him, "Lord, he already stinks, for it has been four days."
John | AFV2020 | 11:40 | Jesus said to her, "Did I not say to you that if you will believe, you shall see the glory of God?"
John | AFV2020 | 11:41 | Then they removed the stone from the tomb where the dead man had been laid. And Jesus lifted His eyes upward and said, "Father, I thank You that You have heard Me.
John | AFV2020 | 11:42 | And I know that You hear Me always; but because of the people who stand around I say this, so that they may believe that You did send Me."
John | AFV2020 | 11:43 | And after He had spoken these things, He cried with a loud voice, "Lazarus, come forth."
John | AFV2020 | 11:44 | And he who had been dead came forth, his feet and hands bound with grave clothes, and his face bound up with a napkin. Jesus said to them, "Loose him and let him go."
John | AFV2020 | 11:45 | Then many of the Jews who had come to console Mary, and had seen what Jesus did, believed in Him.
John | AFV2020 | 11:47 | Then the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered a council and said, "What shall we do? For this Man does many miracles.
John | AFV2020 | 11:48 | If we allow Him to continue in this manner, all will believe in Him, and the Romans will come and take away from us both this place and the nation."
John | AFV2020 | 11:49 | But a certain one of them, Caiaphas, being high priest that year, said to them, "You have no understanding,
John | AFV2020 | 11:50 | Nor consider that it is better for us that one man die for the people, than that the whole nation should perish."
John | AFV2020 | 11:51 | Now he did not say this of himself, but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation;
John | AFV2020 | 11:52 | And not for the nation only, but also that He might gather together into one the children of God who were scattered abroad.
John | AFV2020 | 11:53 | Therefore, from that day they took counsel together, so that they might kill Him.
John | AFV2020 | 11:54 | For this reason, Jesus no longer walked publicly among the Jews, but went away from there into the country near the desert to a city called Ephraim; and He stayed there with His disciples.
John | AFV2020 | 11:55 | Now the Passover of the Jews was near, and many went up out of the country to Jerusalem before the Passover, so that they might purify themselves.
John | AFV2020 | 11:56 | Then they were watching for Jesus, and were saying to one another while standing in the temple, "What do you think, that He will not come to the feast at all?"
