Chapter 88
Psal DRC 88:1  Of understanding, for Ethan the Ezrahite.
Psal KJV 88:1  O Lord God of my salvation, I have cried day and night before thee:
Psal VulgClem 88:1  Intellectus Ethan Ezrahitæ.
Psal DRC 88:2  The mercies of the Lord I will sing for ever. I will shew forth thy truth with my mouth to generation and generation.
Psal KJV 88:2  Let my prayer come before thee: incline thine ear unto my cry;
Psal VulgClem 88:2  Misericordias Domini in æternum cantabo ; in generationem et generationem annuntiabo veritatem tuam in ore meo.
Psal DRC 88:3  For thou hast said: Mercy shall be built up for ever in the heavens: thy truth shall be prepared in them.
Psal KJV 88:3  For my soul is full of troubles: and my life draweth nigh unto the grave.
Psal VulgClem 88:3  Quoniam dixisti : In æternum misericordia ædificabitur in cælis ; præparabitur veritas tua in eis.
Psal DRC 88:4  I have made a covenant with my elect: I have sworn to David my servant:
Psal KJV 88:4  I am counted with them that go down into the pit: I am as a man that hath no strength:

Psal DRC 88:5  Thy seed will I settle for ever. And I will build up thy throne unto generation and generation.
Psal KJV 88:5  Free among the dead, like the slain that lie in the grave, whom thou rememberest no more: and they are cut off from thy hand.
Psal VulgClem 88:5  Usque in æternum præparabo semen tuum, et ædificabo in generationem et generationem sedem tuam.
Psal DRC 88:6  The heavens shall confess thy wonders, O Lord: and thy truth in the church of the saints.
Psal KJV 88:6  Thou hast laid me in the lowest pit, in darkness, in the deeps.
Psal VulgClem 88:6  Confitebuntur cæli mirabilia tua, Domine ; etenim veritatem tuam in ecclesia sanctorum.
Psal DRC 88:7  For who in the clouds can be compared to the Lord: or who among the sons of God shall be like to God?
Psal KJV 88:7  Thy wrath lieth hard upon me, and thou hast afflicted me with all thy waves. Selah.

Psal DRC 88:8  God, who is glorified in the assembly of the saints: great and terrible above all them that are about him.
Psal KJV 88:8  Thou hast put away mine acquaintance far from me; thou hast made me an abomination unto them: I am shut up, and I cannot come forth.
Psal VulgClem 88:8  Deus, qui glorificatur in consilio sanctorum, magnus et terribilis super omnes qui in circuitu ejus sunt.
Psal DRC 88:9  O Lord God of hosts, who is like to thee? thou art mighty, O Lord, and thy truth is round about thee.
Psal KJV 88:9  Mine eye mourneth by reason of affliction: Lord, I have called daily upon thee, I have stretched out my hands unto thee.
Psal VulgClem 88:9  Domine Deus virtutum, quis similis tibi ? potens es, Domine, et veritas tua in circuitu tuo.
Psal DRC 88:10  Thou rulest the power of the sea: and appeasest the motion of the waves thereof.
Psal KJV 88:10  Wilt thou shew wonders to the dead? shall the dead arise and praise thee? Selah.
Psal VulgClem 88:10  Tu dominaris potestati maris ; motum autem fluctuum ejus tu mitigas.
Psal DRC 88:11  Thou hast humbled the proud one, as one that is slain: with the arm of thy strength thou hast scattered thy enemies.
Psal KJV 88:11  Shall thy lovingkindness be declared in the grave? or thy faithfulness in destruction?
Psal VulgClem 88:11  Tu humiliasti, sicut vulneratum, superbum ; in brachio virtutis tuæ dispersisti inimicos tuos.
Psal DRC 88:12  Thine are the heavens, and thine is the earth: the world and the fulness thereof thou hast founded:
Psal KJV 88:12  Shall thy wonders be known in the dark? and thy righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?
Psal VulgClem 88:12  Tui sunt cæli, et tua est terra : orbem terræ, et plenitudinem ejus tu fundasti ;
Psal DRC 88:13  The north and the sea thou hast created. Thabor and Hermon shall rejoice in thy name:
Psal KJV 88:13  But unto thee have I cried, O Lord; and in the morning shall my prayer prevent thee.

Psal DRC 88:14  Thy arm is with might. Let thy hand be strengthened, and thy right hand exalted:
Psal KJV 88:14  Lord, why castest thou off my soul? why hidest thou thy face from me?
Psal VulgClem 88:14  tuum brachium cum potentia. Firmetur manus tua, et exaltetur dextera tua :
Psal DRC 88:15  Justice and judgment are the preparation of thy throne. Mercy and truth shall go before thy face:
Psal KJV 88:15  I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up: while I suffer thy terrors I am distracted.

Psal DRC 88:16  Blessed is the people that knoweth jubilation. They shall walk, O Lord, in the light of thy countenance:
Psal KJV 88:16  Thy fierce wrath goeth over me; thy terrors have cut me off.
Psal VulgClem 88:16  Beatus populus qui scit jubilationem : Domine, in lumine vultus tui ambulabunt,
Psal DRC 88:17  And in thy name they shall rejoice all the day, and in thy justice they shall be exalted.
Psal KJV 88:17  They came round about me daily like water; they compassed me about together.

Psal DRC 88:18  For thou art the glory of their strength: and in thy good pleasure shall our horn be exalted.
Psal KJV 88:18  Lover and friend hast thou put far from me, and mine acquaintance into darkness.
Psal VulgClem 88:18  Quoniam gloria virtutis eorum tu es, et in beneplacito tuo exaltabitur cornu nostrum.
Psal DRC 88:19  For our protection is of the Lord, and of our king the holy one of Israel.

Psal DRC 88:20  Then thou spokest in a vision to thy saints, and saidst: I have laid help upon one that is mighty, and have exalted one chosen out of my people.

Psal VulgClem 88:20  Tunc locutus es in visione sanctis tuis, et dixisti : Posui adjutorium in potente, et exaltavi electum de plebe mea.
Psal DRC 88:21  I have found David my servant: with my holy oil I have anointed him.

Psal VulgClem 88:21  Inveni David, servum meum ; oleo sancto meo unxi eum.
Psal DRC 88:22  For my hand shall help him: and my arm shall strengthen him.

Psal VulgClem 88:22  Manus enim mea auxiliabitur ei, et brachium meum confortabit eum.
Psal DRC 88:23  The enemy shall have no advantage over him: nor the son of iniquity have power to hurt him.

Psal VulgClem 88:23  Nihil proficiet inimicus in eo, et filius iniquitatis non apponet nocere ei.
Psal DRC 88:24  And I will cut down his enemies before his face; and them that hate him I will put to flight.

Psal VulgClem 88:24  Et concidam a facie ipsius inimicos ejus, et odientes eum in fugam convertam.
Psal DRC 88:25  And my truth and my mercy shall be with him: and in my name shall his horn be exalted.

Psal VulgClem 88:25  Et veritas mea et misericordia mea cum ipso, et in nomine meo exaltabitur cornu ejus.
Psal DRC 88:26  And I will set his hand in the sea; and his right hand in the rivers.

Psal VulgClem 88:26  Et ponam in mari manum ejus, et in fluminibus dexteram ejus.
Psal DRC 88:27  He shall cry out to me: Thou art my father: my God, and the support of my salvation.

Psal VulgClem 88:27  Ipse invocabit me : Pater meus es tu, Deus meus, et susceptor salutis meæ.
Psal DRC 88:28  And I will make him my firstborn, high above the kings of the earth.

Psal VulgClem 88:28  Et ego primogenitum ponam illum, excelsum præ regibus terræ.
Psal DRC 88:29  I will keep my mercy for him for ever: and my covenant faithful to him.

Psal VulgClem 88:29  In æternum servabo illi misericordiam meam, et testamentum meum fidele ipsi.
Psal DRC 88:30  And I will make his seed to endure for evermore: and his throne as the days of heaven.

Psal DRC 88:31  And if his children forsake my law, and walk not in my judgments:

Psal DRC 88:32  If they profane my justices: and keep not my commandments:

Psal VulgClem 88:32  si justitias meas profanaverint, et mandata mea non custodierint :
Psal DRC 88:33  I will visit their iniquities with a rod and their sins with stripes.

Psal DRC 88:34  But my mercy I will not take away from him: nor will I suffer my truth to fail.

Psal DRC 88:35  Neither will I profane my covenant: and the words that proceed from my mouth I will not make void.

Psal DRC 88:38  And his throne as the sun before me: and as the moon perfect for ever, and a faithful witness in heaven.

Psal DRC 88:39  But thou hast rejected and despised: thou hast been angry with my anointed.

Psal VulgClem 88:39  Tu vero repulisti et despexisti ; distulisti christum tuum.
Psal DRC 88:40  Thou hast overthrown the covenant of thy servant: thou hast profaned his sanctuary on the earth.

Psal VulgClem 88:40  Evertisti testamentum servi tui ; profanasti in terra sanctuarium ejus.
Psal DRC 88:41  Thou hast broken down all his hedges: thou hast made his strength fear.

Psal VulgClem 88:41  Destruxisti omnes sepes ejus ; posuisti firmamentum ejus formidinem.
Psal DRC 88:42  All that pass by the way have robbed him: he is become a reproach to his neighbours.

Psal VulgClem 88:42  Diripuerunt eum omnes transeuntes viam ; factus est opprobrium vicinis suis.
Psal DRC 88:43  Thou hast set up the right hand of them that oppress him: thou hast made all his enemies to rejoice.

Psal VulgClem 88:43  Exaltasti dexteram deprimentium eum ; lætificasti omnes inimicos ejus.
Psal DRC 88:44  Thou hast turned away the help of his sword; and hast not assisted him in battle.

Psal DRC 88:45  Thou hast made his purification to cease: and thou hast cast his throne down to the ground.

Psal VulgClem 88:45  Destruxisti eum ab emundatione, et sedem ejus in terram collisisti.
Psal DRC 88:46  Thou hast shortened the days of his time: thou hast covered him with confusion.

Psal VulgClem 88:46  Minorasti dies temporis ejus ; perfudisti eum confusione.
Psal DRC 88:47  How long, O Lord, turnest thou away unto the end? shall thy anger burn like fire?

Psal VulgClem 88:47  Usquequo, Domine, avertis in finem ? exardescet sicut ignis ira tua ?
Psal DRC 88:48  Remember what my substance is: for hast thou made all the children of men in vain?

Psal VulgClem 88:48  Memorare quæ mea substantia : numquid enim vane constituisti omnes filios hominum ?
Psal DRC 88:49  Who is the man that shall live, and not see death: that shall deliver his soul from the hand of hell?

Psal VulgClem 88:49  Quis est homo qui vivet et non videbit mortem ? eruet animam suam de manu inferi ?
Psal DRC 88:50  Lord, where are thy ancient mercies, according to what thou didst swear to David in thy truth?

Psal VulgClem 88:50  Ubi sunt misericordiæ tuæ antiquæ, Domine, sicut jurasti David in veritate tua ?
Psal DRC 88:51  Be mindful, O Lord, of the reproach of thy servants (which I have held in my bosom) of many nations:

Psal VulgClem 88:51  Memor esto, Domine, opprobrii servorum tuorum, quod continui in sinu meo, multarum gentium :
Psal DRC 88:52  Wherewith thy enemies have reproached, O Lord; wherewith they have reproached the change of thy anointed.
