11:1  And the king of Egypt gathered together an army, like the sand that lieth upon the sea shore, and many ships: and he sought to get the kingdom of Alexander by deceit, and join it to his own kingdom.

11:1  Egyptský král shromáždil vojsko tak početné, jako je písku na mořském břehu, a také množství lodí. Chtěl se lstivě zmocnit Alexandrova království a připojit je ke své říši,

11:1  Et rex Ægypti congregavit exercitum, sicut arena quæ est circa oram maris, et naves multas : et quærebat obtinere regnum Alexandri dolo, et addere illud regno suo.

11:2  And he went out into Syria with peaceable words and they opened to him the cities, and met him: for king Alexander had ordered them to go forth to meet him, because he was his father in law.

11:2  a tak přitáhl do Sýrie s příslibem míru. Obyvatelé měst mu otevírali brány a vycházeli mu vstříc, protože král Alexandr přikázal, ať ho vítají – vždyť to byl jeho tchán.

11:2  Et exiit in Syriam verbis pacificis, et aperiebant ei civitates, et occurrebant ei : quia mandaverat Alexander rex exire ei obviam, eo quod socer suus esset.

11:3  Now when Ptolemee entered into the cities, he put garrisons of soldiers in every city.

11:3  Jenže pokaždé, když Ptolemaios vstoupil do nějakého města, nechával v něm posádku svého vojska.

11:3  Cum autem introiret civitatem Ptolemæus, ponebat custodias militum in singulis civitatibus.

11:4  And when he came near to Azotus, they shewed him the temple of Dagon that was burnt with fire, and Azotus, and the suburbs thereof, that were destroyed, and the bodies that were cast abroad, and the graves of them that were slain in the battle, which they had made near the way.

11:4  Takto postupoval až k Ašdodu. Tam mu ukázali vypálený Dágonův chrám, trosky Ašdodu i okolních obcí, pohozená těla a zohavené trupy těch, které Jonatan upálil v boji. Podél královy cesty navršili hromady mrtvol

11:4  Et ut appropiavit Azoto, ostenderunt ei templum Dagon succensum igni, et Azotum, et cetera ejus demolita, et corpora projecta, et eorum, qui cæsi erant in bello, tumulos quos fecerant secus viam.

11:5  And they told the king that Jonathan had done these things, to make him odious: but the king held his peace.

11:5  a vyprávěli mu, co Jonatan spáchal, aby ho očernili. Král však mlčel.

11:5  Et narraverunt regi quia hæc fecit Jonathas, ut invidiam facerent ei : et tacuit rex.

11:6  And Jonathan came to meet the king at Joppe with glory, and they saluted one another, and they lodged there.

11:6  Jonatan vyšel s velkou slávou vstříc králi do Joppy, kde se pozdravili a přenocovali.

11:6  Et occurrit Jonathas regi in Joppen cum gloria, et invicem se salutaverunt, et dormierunt illic.

11:7  And Jonathan went with the king as far as the river, called Eleutherus: and he returned into Jerusalem.

11:7  Potom krále doprovodil až k řece Eleuteros a vrátil se zpět do Jeruzaléma.

11:7  Et abiit Jonathas cum rege usque ad fluvium qui vocatur Eleutherus : et reversus est in Jerusalem.

11:8  And king Ptolemee got the dominion of the cities by the sea side, even to Seleucia, and he devised evil designs against Alexander.

11:8  Král Ptolemaios ovládl pobřežní města až k přímořské Seleukii a spřádal zlé plány proti Alexandrovi.

11:8  Rex autem Ptolemæus obtinuit dominium civitatum usque Seleuciam maritimam, et cogitabat in Alexandrum consilia mala.

11:9  And he sent ambassadors to Demetrius, saying: Come, let us make a league between us, and I will give thee my daughter whom Alexander hath, and thou shalt reign in the kingdom of thy father.

11:9  Odeslal vyslance ke králi Demetriovi se vzkazem: Pojďme spolu uzavřít smlouvu. Dám ti svou dceru, kterou teď má Alexandr, a budeš vládnout v království svého otce.

11:9  Et misit legatos ad Demetrium, dicens : Veni, componamus inter nos pactum, et dabo tibi filiam meam, quam habet Alexander, et regnabis in regno patris tui :

11:10  For I repent that I have given him my daughter: for he hath sought to kill me.

11:10  Lituji totiž, že jsem dal svou dceru jemu, protože se mě pokusil zabít.

11:10  pœnitet enim me quod dederim illi filiam meam : quæsivit enim me occidere.

11:11  And he slandered him, because he coveted his kingdom,

11:11  Takto Alexandra očerňoval, protože dychtil po jeho království.

11:11  Et vituperavit eum, propterea quod concupierat regnum ejus.

11:12  And he took away his daughter, and gave her to Demetrius, and alienated himself from Alexander, and his enmities were made manifest.

11:12  Vzal mu pak svoji dceru a dal ji Demetriovi – takto se s Alexandrem rozešel a propuklo mezi nimi otevřené nepřátelství.

11:12  Et abstulit filiam suam, et dedit eam Demetrio, et alienavit se ab Alexandro, et manifestæ sunt inimicitiæ ejus.

11:13  And Ptolemee entered into Antioch, and set two crowns upon his head, that of Egypt, and that of Asia.

11:13  Nakonec Ptolemaios vstoupil do Antiochie a nechal se korunovat za krále nad Sýrií. Měl tedy na hlavě dvě koruny – egyptskou a syrskou.

11:13  Et intravit Ptolemæus Antiochiam, et imposuit duo diademata capiti suo, Ægypti et Asiæ.

11:14  Now king Alexander was in Cilicia at that time: because they that were in those places had rebelled.

11:14  Král Alexandr byl právě tou dobou v Kilikii, protože tamní obyvatelstvo se proti němu bouřilo.

11:14  Alexander autem rex erat in Cilicia illis temporibus : quia rebellabant qui erant in locis illis.

11:15  And when Alexander heard of it, he came to give him battle: and king Ptolemee brought forth his army, and met him with a strong power, and put him to flight.

11:15  Když se však dozvěděl o Ptolemaiových činech, vyrazil proti němu do boje. Ptolemaios mu vytáhl naproti, prudce na něj zaútočil a zahnal ho na útěk.

11:15  Et audivit Alexander, et venit ad eum in bellum : et produxit Ptolemæus rex exercitum, et occurrit ei in manu valida, et fugavit eum.

11:16  And Alexander fled into Arabia, there to be protected: and king Ptolemee was exalted.

11:16  Alexandr se uchýlil do Arábie, aby tam našel útočiště, a Ptolemaios slavil triumf.

11:16  Et fugit Alexander in Arabiam, ut ibi protegeretur : rex autem Ptolemæus exaltatus est.

11:17  And Zabdiel the Arabian took off Alexander's head, and sent it to Ptolemee.

11:17  Arab Zabdiel pak Alexandra sťal a jeho hlavu poslal Ptolemaiovi.

11:17  Et abstulit Zabdiel Arabs caput Alexandri, et misit Ptolemæo.

11:18  And king Ptolemee died the third day after: and they that were in the strong holds were destroyed by them that were within the camp.

11:18  Tři dny nato ale král Ptolemaios zemřel a místní obyvatelé pak pobili posádky, které zanechal v pevnostech.

11:18  Et rex Ptolemæus mortuus est in die tertia : et qui erant in munitionibus, perierunt ab his qui erant intra castra.

11:19  And Demetrius reigned in the hundred and sixty-seventh year.

11:19  Tak se roku 167 stal králem Demetrios.

11:19  Et regnavit Demetrius anno centesimo sexagesimo septimo.

11:20  In those days Jonathan gathered together them that were in Judea, to take the castle that was in Jerusalem: and they made many engines of war against it.

11:20  V oněch dnech shromáždil Jonatan muže z Judska k útoku na jeruzalémský hrad a postavil proti němu mnoho obléhacích strojů.

11:20  In diebus illis congregavit Jonathas eos qui erant in Judæa, ut expugnarent arcem quæ est in Jerusalem : et fecerunt contra eam machinas multas.

11:21  Then some wicked men that hated their own nation, went away to king Demetrius, and told him that Jonathan was besieging the castle.

11:21  Někteří bezbožníci, nepřátelé svého národa, se tehdy vypravili ke králi a oznámili mu, že Jonatan obléhá hrad.

11:21  Et abierunt quidam qui oderant gentem suam viri iniqui ad regem Demetrium, et renuntiaverunt ei quod Jonathas obsideret arcem.

11:22  And when he heard it, he was angry: and forthwith he came to Ptolemais, and wrote to Jonathan that he should not besiege the castle, but should come to him in haste, and speak to him.

11:22  Ta zpráva krále rozzuřila. Jakmile ji vyslechl, hned se přesunul do Ptolemaidy a napsal Jonatanovi, ať zastaví obléhání a co nejrychleji se k němu dostaví k rozhovorům.

11:22  Et ut audivit, iratus est : et statim venit ad Ptolemaidam, et scripsit Jonathæ ne obsideret arcem, sed occurreret sibi ad colloquium festinato.

11:23  But when Jonathan heard this, he bade them besiege it still: and he chose some of the ancients of Israel, and of the priests, and put himself in danger

11:23  Když to Jonatan uslyšel, dal rozkazy, aby se v obléhání pokračovalo. Vybral si některé ze starších Izraele a kněží a vydal se s nimi do nebezpečí.

11:23  Ut audivit autem Jonathas, jussit obsidere : et elegit de senioribus Israël, et de sacerdotibus, et dedit se periculo.

11:24  And he took gold, and silver, and raiment, and many other presents, and went to the king to Ptolemais and he found favour in his sight.

11:24  Vzal stříbro, zlato, roucha a mnoho dalších darů, vypravil se za králem do Ptolemaidy a příznivě si ho naklonil.

11:24  Et accepit aurum, et argentum, et vestem, et alia xenia multa, et abiit ad regem Ptolemaidam : et invenit gratiam in conspectu ejus,

11:25  And certain wicked men of his nation made complaints against him.

11:25  Někteří bezbožníci z jeho národa si na něj sice stěžovali,

11:25  et interpellabant adversus eum quidam iniqui ex gente sua.

11:26  And the king treated him as his predecessors had done before: and he exalted him in the sight of all his friends.

11:26  ale král se k němu zachoval tak jako jeho předchůdci. Vyznamenal jej před všemi svými důvěrníky,

11:26  Et fecit ei rex sicut fecerant ei qui ante eum fuerant : et exaltavit eum in conspectu omnium amicorum suorum,

11:27  And he confirmed him in the high priesthood and all the honours he had before, and he made him the chief of his friends.

11:27  potvrdil jeho velekněžství i ostatní předešlé pocty a zařadil ho mezi své přední přátele.

11:27  et statuit ei principatum sacerdotii, et quæcumque alia habuit prius pretiosa, et fecit eum principem amicorum.

11:28  And Jonathan requested of the king that he would make Judea free from tribute, and the three governments, and Samaria, and the confines thereof: and he promised him three hundred talents.

11:28  Jonatan tehdy krále požádal, aby osvobodil Judsko a tři samařské okresy od daní, a slíbil mu za to 300 talentů stříbra.

11:28  Et postulavit Jonathas a rege ut immunem faceret Judæam, et tres toparchias, et Samariam et confines ejus : et promisit ei talenta trecenta.

11:29  And the king consented: and he wrote letters to Jonathan of all these things, to this effect.

11:29  Král svolil a napsal o tom všem Jonatanovi list tohoto znění:

11:29  Et consensit rex : et scripsit Jonathæ epistolas de his omnibus, hunc modum continentes :

11:30  King Demetrius to his brother, Jonathan, and to the nation of the Jews, greeting.

11:30  Král Demetrios zdraví svého bratra Jonatana a židovský národ.

11:30  Rex Demetrius fratri Jonathæ salutem, et genti Judæorum.

11:31  We send you here a copy of the letter which we have written to Lasthenes, our parent, concerning you, that you might know it.

11:32  King Demetrius to Lasthenes, his parent, greetings.

11:33  We have determined to do good to the nation of the Jews, who are our friends, and keep the things that are just with us, for their good will which they bear towards us.

11:33  Rozhodli jsme se udělit židovskému národu – našim přátelům a věrným spojencům – jisté výsady za jejich oddanost k nám.

11:33  Genti Judæorum amicis nostris, et conservantibus quæ justa sunt apud nos, decrevimus benefacere propter benignitatem ipsorum, quam erga nos habent.

11:34  We have ratified, therefore, unto them all the borders of Judea, and the three cities, Apherema, Lydda, and Ramatha, which are added to Judea, out of Samaria, and all their confines, to be set apart to all them that sacrifice in Jerusalem, instead of the payments which the king received of them every year, and for the fruits of the land, and of the trees.

11:34  Potvrzujeme, že jim náleží území Judska, jakož i Efraim, Lod a Ramatajim, tři okresy, jež byly se všemi příslušnými územími připojeny k Judsku od Samaří. Všechny ty, kdo přinášejí v Jeruzalémě oběti, osvobozujeme od královských dávek, které od nich král dříve každoročně vybíral z polní úrody a z ovocných stromů.

11:34  Statuimus ergo illis omnes fines Judææ, et tres civitates, Lydan, et Ramathan, quæ additæ sunt Judææ ex Samaria, et omnes confines earum, sequestrari omnibus sacrificantibus in Jerosolymis pro his quæ ab eis prius accipiebat rex per singulos annos, et pro fructibus terræ et pomorum.

11:35  And as for other things that belonged to us of the tithes, and of the tributes, from this time we discharge them of them: the saltpans also, and the crowns that were presented to us.

11:35  Dále se od nynějška zříkáme všech právoplatných poplatků z desátků a dalších právoplatných odvodů jako je solná daň a peněžní daň koruně.

11:35  Et alia quæ ad nos pertinebant decimarum et tributorum ex hoc tempore, remittimus eis : et areas salinarum, et coronas, quæ nobis deferebantur,

11:36  We give all to them, and nothing hereof shall be revoked from this time forth and for ever.

11:36  omnia ipsis concedimus : et nihil horum irritum erit, ex hoc, et in omne tempus.

11:37  Now, therefore, see that thou make a copy of these things, and let it be given to Jonathan, and set upon the holy mountain, in a conspicuous place.

11:37  Nyní nech vyhotovit opis této listiny. Ten ať je předán Jonatanovi a veřejně vystaven na svaté hoře.

11:37  Nunc ergo curate facere horum exemplum, et detur Jonathæ, et ponatur in monte sancto, in loco celebri.

11:38  And king Demetrius, seeing that the land was quiet before him, and nothing resisted him, sent away all his forces, every man to his own place, except the foreign army, which he had drawn together from the islands of the nations: so all the troops of his fathers hated him.

11:38  Král Demetrios viděl, že v jeho zemi panuje klid a nikdo se mu nestaví na odpor, a tak rozpustil všechna svá vojska a poslal je všechny domů s výjimkou cizineckých jednotek, jež najal u ostrovních národů. Tím si znepřátelil všechna vojska, která sloužila už jeho předkům.

11:38  Et videns Demetrius rex quod siluit terra in conspectu suo, et nihil ei resistit, dimisit totum exercitum suum, unumquemque in locum suum, excepto peregrino exercitu, quem contraxit ab insulis gentium : et inimici erant ei omnes exercitus patrum ejus.

11:39  Now there was one Tryphon who had been of Alexander's party before: who seeing that all the army murmured against Demetrius, went to Emalchuel, the Arabian, who brought up Antiochus, the son of Alexander:

11:39  Jistý Tryfon, dříve jeden z Alexandrových mužů, si všiml, že všechna vojska proti Demetriovi reptají. Vypravil se proto k Arabovi Imalkuovi, který vychovával Alexandrova malého syna Antiocha.

11:39  Tryphon autem erat quidam partium Alexandri prius : et vidit quoniam omnis exercitus murmurabat contra Demetrium, et ivit ad Emalchuel Arabem, qui nutriebat Antiochum filium Alexandri :

11:40  And he pressed him much to deliver him to him, that he might be king in his father's place: and he told him all that Demetrius had done, and how his soldiers hated him. And he remained there many days.

11:40  Naléhal na něj, ať mu ho vydá, aby se mohl ujmout vlády místo svého otce. Líčil mu, co všechno Demetrios napáchal a jakou nenávist k němu chovají jeho vojska, a zdržel se tam delší čas.

11:40  et assidebat ei, ut traderet eum ipsi, ut regnaret loco patris sui : et enuntiavit ei quanta fecit Demetrius, et inimicitias exercituum ejus adversus illum. Et mansit ibi diebus multis.

11:41  And Jonathan sent to king Demetrius, desiring that he would cast out them that were in the castle in Jerusalem, and those that were in the strong holds: because they fought against Israel.

11:41  Jonatan mezitím krále Demetria požádal, ať odvolá posádku jeruzalémského hradu a dalších pevností, protože stále vedli válku proti Izraeli.

11:41  Et misit Jonathas ad Demetrium regem, ut ejiceret eos qui in arce erant in Jerusalem, et qui in præsidiis erant : quia impugnabant Israël.

11:42  And Demetrius sent to Jonathan, saying: I will not only do this for thee, and for thy people, but I will greatly honour thee, and thy nation, when opportunity shall serve.

11:42  Demetrios poslal Jonatanovi tuto odpověď: Nejenže to pro tebe a pro tvůj národ učiním, ale při první vhodné příležitosti tebe i tvůj národ vysoce poctím.

11:42  Et misit Demetrius ad Jonathan, dicens : Non hæc tantum faciam tibi, et genti tuæ, sed gloria illustrabo te, et gentem tuam, cum fuerit opportunum.

11:43  Now, therefore, thou shalt do well if thou send me men to help me: for all my army is gone from me.

11:43  Teď ale budu rád, když mi pošleš podpůrné jednotky, protože všechna má vojska se ode mne odvrátila.

11:43  Nunc ergo recte feceris, si miseris in auxilium mihi viros : quia discessit omnis exercitus meus.

11:44  And Jonathan sent him three thousand valiant men to Antioch: and they came to the king, and the king was very glad of their coming.

11:44  Jonatan mu tedy do Antiochie poslal 3000 zkušených bojovníků. Když dorazili, král se z jejich příchodu zaradoval.

11:44  Et misit ei Jonathas tria millia virorum fortium Antiochiam : et venerunt ad regem, et delectatus est rex in adventu eorum.

11:45  And they that were of the city assembled themselves together, to the number of a hundred and twenty thousand men, and would have killed the king.

11:45  Uprostřed města se pak shromáždilo místní obyvatelstvo, asi 120 000 mužů, a chtěli zabít krále.

11:45  Et convenerunt qui erant de civitate, centum viginti millia virorum, et volebant interficere regem.

11:46  And the king fled into the palace: and they of the city kept the passages of the city, and began to fight.

11:46  Ten utekl do svého paláce, ale místní muži obsadili ulice města a začali útočit.

11:46  Et fugit rex in aulam : et occupaverunt qui erant de civitate, itinera civitatis, et cœperunt pugnare.

11:47  And the king called the Jews to his assistance: and they came to him all at once, and they all dispersed themselves through the city.

11:47  Král zavolal na pomoc židovské bojovníky a ti mu všichni přišli na pomoc. Rozptýlili se po městě a pobili toho dne na 100 000 mužů.

11:47  Et vocavit rex Judæos in auxilium, et convenerunt omnes simul ad eum, et dispersi sunt omnes per civitatem :

11:48  And they slew in that day a hundred thousand men, and they set fire to the city, and got many spoils that day, and delivered the king.

11:48  Město vypálili, pobrali v něm toho dne mnoho kořisti a krále zachránili.

11:48  et occiderunt in illa die centum millia hominum, et succenderunt civitatem, et ceperunt spolia multa in die illa, et liberaverunt regem.

11:49  And they that were of the city saw that the Jews had got the city as they would: and they were discouraged in their mind, and cried to the king, making supplication, and saying

11:49  Když místní zjistili, že Židé ovládají město, jak se jim zlíbí, opustila je odvaha a začali krále úpěnlivě prosit:

11:49  Et viderunt qui erant de civitate, quod obtinuissent Judæi civitatem sicut volebant : et infirmati sunt mente sua, et clamaverunt ad regem cum precibus, dicentes :

11:50  Grant us peace, and let the Jews cease from assaulting us, and the city.

11:50  „Usmiřme se! Ať už ti Židé přestanou bojovat proti nám i městu!“

11:50  Da nobis dextras, et cessent Judæi oppugnare nos, et civitatem.

11:51  And they threw down their arms, and made peace, and the Jews were glorified in the sight of the king, and in the sight of all that were in his realm, and were renowned throughout the kingdom, and returned to Jerusalem with many spoils.

11:51  A odhodili zbraně a uzavřeli mír. Takto se Židé proslavili před králem a přede všemi obyvateli jeho království a vrátili se do Jeruzaléma s hojnou kořistí.

11:51  Et projecerunt arma sua, et fecerunt pacem, et glorificati sunt Judæi in conspectu regis, et in conspectu omnium qui erant in regno ejus, et nominati sunt in regno : et regressi sunt in Jerusalem habentes spolia multa.

11:52  So king Demetrius sat in the throne of his kingdom: and the land was quiet before him.

11:52  Král Demetrios kraloval na svém trůně a v jeho zemi panoval klid.

11:52  Et sedit Demetrius rex in sede regni sui : et siluit terra in conspectu ejus.

11:53  And he falsified all whatsoever he had said, and alienated himself from Jonathan, and did not reward him according to the benefits he had received from him, but gave him great trouble.

11:53  Porušil ale všechny své sliby Jonatanovi a zanevřel na něj. Místo, aby ho odměnil za prokázanou oddanost, začal ho hrozně utiskovat.

11:53  Et mentitus est omnia quæcumque dixit, et abalienavit se a Jonatha, et non retribuit ei secundum beneficia quæ sibi tribuerat, et vexabat eum valde.

11:54  And after this Tryphon returned, and with him Antiochus, the young boy, who was made king, and put on the diadem.

11:54  Po nějaké době se Tryfon vrátil s malým chlapcem Antiochem, kterého prohlásil králem a nasadil mu korunu.

11:54  Post hæc autem reversus est Tryphon, et Antiochus cum eo puer adolescens, et regnavit, et imposuit sibi diadema.

11:55  And there assembled unto him all the hands which Demetrius had sent away, and they fought against Demetrius who turned his back and fled.

11:55  Přidala se k němu všechna vojska, která Demetrios propustil, a dala se do boje proti Demetriovi; ten byl poražen a dal se na útěk.

11:55  Et congregati sunt ad eum omnes exercitus, quos disperserat Demetrius, et pugnaverunt contra eum : et fugit, et terga vertit.

11:56  And Tryphon took the elephants, and made himself master of Antioch.

11:56  Tryfon vzal slony a zmocnil se Antiochie.

11:56  Et accepit Tryphon bestias, et obtinuit Antiochiam.

11:57  And young Antiochus wrote to Jonathan, saying: I confirm thee in the high priesthood, and I appoint thee ruler over the four cities, and to be one of the king's friends.

11:57  Mladý Antiochos pak napsal Jonatanovi: Potvrzuji ti velekněžství, ustanovuji tě nad těmi čtyřmi okresy a řadím tě mezi královy přátele.

11:57  Et scripsit Antiochus adolescens Jonathæ, dicens : Constituo tibi sacerdotium, et constituo te super quatuor civitates, ut sis de amicis regis.

11:58  And he sent him vessels of gold for his service, and he gave him leave to drink in gold, and to be clothed in purple, and to wear a golden buckle:

11:58  Poslal mu také zlaté stolní nádobí a dal mu právo pít ze zlatých pohárů, oblékat purpur a nosit zlatou sponu.

11:58  Et misit illi vasa aurea in ministerium, et dedit ei potestatem bibendi in auro, et esse in purpura, et habere fibulam auream :

11:59  And he made his brother, Simon, governor, from the borders of Tyre even to the confines of Egypt.

11:59  Jeho bratra Šimona pak jmenoval místodržitelem od Tyrského srázu až k hranicím Egypta.

11:59  et Simonem fratrem ejus constituit ducem a terminis Tyri usque ad fines Ægypti.

11:60  Then Jonathan went forth, and passed through the cities beyond the river, and all the forces of Syria gathered themselves to him to help him, and he came to Ascalon, and they met him honourably out of the city.

11:60  Jonatan se pak vypravil do Zaeufratí. Procházel tamními městy a celé syrské vojsko se přidalo na jeho stranu. Když dorazil do Aškelonu, obyvatelé města ho přivítali s poctami,

11:60  Et exiit Jonathas, et perambulabat trans flumen civitates : et congregatus est ad eum omnis exercitus Syriæ in auxilium, et venit Ascalonem, et occurrerunt ei honorifice de civitate.

11:61  And he went from thence to Gaza: and they that were in Gaza shut him out: and he besieged it, and burnt all the suburbs round about, and took the spoils.

11:61  když ale odtud zamířil do Gazy, místní obyvatelé před ním zavřeli brány. Oblehl tedy město a přilehlé obce vypálil a vydrancoval.

11:61  Et abiit inde Gazam : et concluserunt se qui erant Gazæ : et obsedit eam, et succendit quæ erant in circuitu civitatis, et prædatus est ea.

11:62  And the men of Gaza made supplication to Jonathan, and he gave them the right hand: and he took their sons for hostages, and sent them to Jerusalem: and he went through the country, as far as Damascus.

11:62  Když ho pak obyvatelé Gazy prosili o mír, Jonatan jim vyhověl. Syny předních měšťanů vzal jako rukojmí a poslal je do Jeruzaléma. Potom procházel zemí dál až do Damašku.

11:62  Et rogaverunt Gazenses Jonathan, et dedit illis dexteram : et accepit filios eorum obsides, et misit illos in Jerusalem : et perambulavit regionem usque Damascum.

11:63  And Jonathan heard that the generals of Demetrius were come treacherously to Cades, which is in Galilee, with a great army, purposing to remove him from the affairs of the kingdom.

11:63  Později se Jonatan doslechl, že do Kádeše v Galileji přitáhli Demetriovi velitelé s mohutným vojskem a chtějí ho zbavit moci.

11:63  Et audivit Jonathas quod prævaricati sunt principes Demetrii in Cades, quæ est in Galilæa, cum exercitu multo, volentes eum removere a negotio regni :

11:64  And he went against them: but left his brother, Simon, in the country.

11:64  Vyrazil tedy proti nim, ale svého bratra Šimona zanechal v Judsku.

11:64  et occurrit illis : fratrem autem suum Simonem reliquit intra provinciam.

11:65  And Simon encamped against Bethsura, and assaulted it many days, and shut them up.

11:65  Šimon se utábořil u Bet-curu a mnoho dní město obléhal a dobýval.

11:65  Et applicuit Simon ad Bethsuram, et expugnabat eam diebus multis, et conclusit eos.

11:66  And they desired him to make peace, and he granted it them: and he cast them out from thence, and took the city, and placed a garrison in it.

11:66  Nakonec ho prosili o mír a on jim vyhověl. Vyhnal je ale odtud, město zabral a zřídil v něm posádku.

11:66  Et postulaverunt ab eo dextras accipere, et dedit illis : et ejecit eos inde, et cepit civitatem, et posuit in ea præsidium.

11:67  And Jonathan and his army encamped by the water of Genesar, and before it was light they were ready in the plain of Asor.

11:67  Jonatan zatím se svým vojskem tábořil u Genezaretského jezera. Časně ráno vytáhli na chacorskou pláň,

11:67  Et Jonathas et castra ejus applicuerunt ad aquam Genesar, et ante lucem vigilaverunt in campo Asor :

11:68  And behold the army of the strangers met him in the plain, and they laid an ambush for him in the mountains: but he went out against them.

11:68  kde se s nimi utkalo vojsko cizáků. Ti na ně ale v horách nachystali zálohu. Zatímco hlavní voj postupoval přímo proti Jonatanovi,

11:68  et ecce castra alienigenarum occurrebant in campo, et tendebant ei insidias in montibus : ipse autem occurrit ex adverso.

11:69  And they that lay in ambush rose out of their places, and joined battle.

11:69  záložní jednotka vyrazila ze svého místa a pustila se do boje.

11:69  Insidiæ vero exsurrexerunt de locis suis, et commiserunt prælium.

11:70  And all that were on Jonathan's side fled, and none was left of them, but Mathathias, the son of Absalom, and Judas, the son of Calphi, chief captain of the army.

11:70  Všichni Jonatanovi muži se dali na útěk; v poli nezůstal nikdo kromě velitelů Matatiáše, syna Abšalomova, a Judy, syna Chalfiho.

11:70  Et fugerunt qui erant ex parte Jonathæ omnes, et nemo relictus est ex eis, nisi Mathathias filius Absolomi, et Judas filius Calphi, princeps militiæ exercitus.

11:71  And Jonathan rent his garments, and cast earth upon his head, and prayed.

11:71  Jonatan tehdy roztrhl své roucho, posypal si hlavu prachem a modlil se.

11:71  Et scidit Jonathas vestimenta sua, et posuit terram in capite suo, et oravit.

11:72  And Jonathan turned again to them to battle, and he put them to flight, and they fought.

11:72  Pak se vrátil do boje proti nepřátelům a udeřil na ně tak, že se dali na útěk.

11:72  Et reversus est Jonathas ad eos in prælium, et convertit eos in fugam, et pugnaverunt.

11:73  And they of his part that fled saw this, and they turned again to him, and they all with him pursued the enemies, even to Cades, to their own camp, and they came even thither.

11:73  Když to zjistili Jonatanovi vlastní prchající vojáci, vrátili se a pronásledovali s ním nepřátele až do jejich tábora u Kádeše. Tam se zastavili.

11:73  Et viderunt qui fugiebant partis illius, et reversi sunt ad eum, et insequebantur cum eo omnes usque Cades ad castra sua, et pervenerunt usque illuc :

11:74  And there fell of the aliens in that day three thousand men: and Jonathan returned to Jerusalem.

11:74  Toho dne padlo na 3000 cizáků a Jonatan se pak vrátil do Jeruzaléma.

11:74  et ceciderunt de alienigenis in die illa tria millia virorum : et reversus est Jonathas in Jerusalem.
