Chapter 22
Luke Common 22:1  Now the feast of Unleavened Bread drew near, which is called the Passover.
Luke Common 22:2  And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how to kill him, for they feared the people.
Luke Common 22:3  Then Satan entered Judas, called Iscariot, who was numbered of the twelve.
Luke Common 22:4  So he went his way and conferred with the chief priests and officers, how he might betray him to them.
Luke Common 22:5  And they were glad, and agreed to give him money.
Luke Common 22:6  So he consented, and sought an opportunity to betray him to them in the absence of the multitude.
Luke Common 22:7  Then came the day of Unleavened Bread, on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed.
Luke Common 22:8  So he sent Peter and John, saying, "Go and prepare the Passover for us, that we may eat."
Luke Common 22:9  They said to him, "Where do you want us to prepare it?"
Luke Common 22:10  He said to them, "Behold, when you have entered the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you; follow him into the house which he enters.
Luke Common 22:11  And say to the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher says to you: Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’
Luke Common 22:12  He will show you a large, furnished upper room; there make ready."
Luke Common 22:13  So they went, and found it just as he had told them; and they prepared the Passover.
Luke Common 22:14  When the hour came, he sat at table, and the apostles with him.
Luke Common 22:15  And he said to them, "I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer;
Luke Common 22:16  for I tell you, I will not eat it again until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God."
Luke Common 22:17  Then he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, "Take this and divide it among yourselves;
Luke Common 22:18  for I tell you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes."
Luke Common 22:19  And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, "This is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me."
Luke Common 22:20  Likewise he took the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.
Luke Common 22:21  But behold the hand of him who betrays me is with me on the table.
Luke Common 22:22  For the Son of Man goes as it has been determined, but woe to that man by whom he is betrayed!"
Luke Common 22:23  Then they began to question among themselves, which of them it was who would do this.
Luke Common 22:24  A dispute also arose among them, which of them was to be considered the greatest.
Luke Common 22:25  And he said to them, "The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and those who exercise authority over them are called benefactors.
Luke Common 22:26  But not so among you; on the contrary, he who is greatest among you, let him be as the youngest, and he who leads as one who serves.
Luke Common 22:27  For who is greater, one who sits at the table, or one who serves? Is it not the one who sits at the table? But I am among you as One who serves.
Luke Common 22:28  You are those who have continued with me in my trials.
Luke Common 22:29  And I bestow on you a kingdom, just as my Father bestowed one on me,
Luke Common 22:30  so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
Luke Common 22:31  "Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has asked to have you, that he might sift you as wheat.
Luke Common 22:32  But I have prayed for you, that your faith may not fail; and when you have turned again, strengthen your brethren."
Luke Common 22:33  But he said to him, "Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death."
Luke Common 22:34  He said, "I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crow this day before you deny three times that you know me."
Luke Common 22:35  And he said to them, "When I sent you out with no purse or bag or sandals, did you lack anything?" They said, "Nothing."
Luke Common 22:36  He said to them, "But now, let him who has a purse take it, and likewise a bag; and let him who has no sword sell his robe and buy one.
Luke Common 22:37  For I tell you that this scripture must be fulfilled in me, ‘And he was numbered with transgressors’; for what is written about me has its fulfillment."
Luke Common 22:38  They said, "Look, Lord, here are two swords." And he said to them, "It is enough."
Luke Common 22:39  He came out, and went to the Mount of Olives, as was his custom, and his disciples followed him.
Luke Common 22:40  When he came to the place, he said to them, "Pray that you may not enter into temptation."
Luke Common 22:41  And he withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, and knelt down and prayed,
Luke Common 22:42  "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; nevertheless not my will, but yours, be done."
Luke Common 22:43  An angel appeared to him from heaven, and strengthened him.
Luke Common 22:44  And being in agony, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat became like drops of blood falling to the ground.
Luke Common 22:45  When he rose from prayer, and came to his disciples, he found them sleeping from sorrow.
Luke Common 22:46  He said to them, "Why do you sleep? Rise and pray that you may not enter into temptation."
Luke Common 22:47  While he was still speaking, a crowd came, and the man who was called Judas, one of the twelve, was leading them. He drew near to Jesus to kiss him;
Luke Common 22:48  but Jesus said to him, "Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?"
Luke Common 22:49  When those around him saw what was going to happen, they said, "Lord, shall we strike with the sword?"
Luke Common 22:50  And one of them struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear.
Luke Common 22:51  But Jesus answered, "No more of this!" And he touched his ear and healed him.
Luke Common 22:52  Then Jesus said to the chief priests, officers of the temple, and the elders who had come to him, "Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs?
Luke Common 22:53  When I was with you day after day in the temple, you did not lay hands on me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness."
Luke Common 22:54  Then they seized him and led him away, bringing him into the high priest’s house. Peter followed at a distance.
Luke Common 22:55  When they had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat among them.
Luke Common 22:56  And a servant girl, seeing him as he sat in the firelight, looked at him, and said, "This man also was with him."
Luke Common 22:57  But he denied it, saying, "Woman, I do not know him."
Luke Common 22:58  And a little later some one else saw him and said, "You also are of them." But Peter said, "Man, I am not!"
Luke Common 22:59  Then after about an hour had passed, another insisted, saying, "Certainly this fellow also was with him, for he is a Galilean."
Luke Common 22:60  But Peter said, "Man, I do not know what you are saying!" Immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed.
Luke Common 22:61  And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said to him, "Before the rooster crows today, you will deny me three times."
Luke Common 22:63  Now the men who were holding Jesus mocked him and beat him.
Luke Common 22:64  They blindfolded him and asked him, "Prophesy! Who is the one who struck you?"
Luke Common 22:65  And they spoke many other things against him, blaspheming.
Luke Common 22:66  As soon as it was day, the council of the elders of the people came together, both chief priests and scribes; and they led him away to their council chamber, saying,
Luke Common 22:67  "If you are the Christ, tell us." But he said to them, "If I tell you, you will not believe.
Luke Common 22:69  But from now on the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the power of God."
Luke Common 22:70  They all said, "Are you the Son of God, then?" He said to them, "You said what I am."
Luke Common 22:71  And they said, "What further testimony do we need? We have heard it ourselves from his own lips."
