Amos DRC 5:1  Hear ye this word, which I take up concerning you for a lamentation. The house of Israel is fallen, and it shall rise no more.
Amos KJV 5:1  Hear ye this word which I take up against you, even a lamentation, O house of Israel.
Amos DRC 5:2  The virgin of Israel is cast down upon her land, there is none to raise her up.
Amos KJV 5:2  The virgin of Israel is fallen; she shall no more rise: she is forsaken upon her land; there is none to raise her up.
Amos DRC 5:3  For thus saith the Lord God: The city, out of which came forth a thousand, there shall be left in it a hundred: and out of which there came a hundred, there shall be left in it ten, in the house of Israel.
Amos KJV 5:3  For thus saith the Lord God; The city that went out by a thousand shall leave an hundred, and that which went forth by an hundred shall leave ten, to the house of Israel.
Amos VulgClem 5:3  Quia hæc dicit Dominus Deus : Urbs de qua egrediebantur mille, relinquentur in ea centum ; et de qua egrediebantur centum, relinquentur in ea decem in domo Israël.
Amos DRC 5:4  For thus saith the Lord to the house of Israel: Seek ye me, and you shall live.
Amos KJV 5:4  For thus saith the Lord unto the house of Israel, Seek ye me, and ye shall live:
Amos VulgClem 5:4  Quia hæc dicit Dominus domui Israël : Quærite me, et vivetis.
Amos DRC 5:5  But seek not Bethel, and go not into Galgal, neither shall you pass over to Bersabee: for Galgal shall go into captivity, and Bethel shall be unprofitable.
Amos KJV 5:5  But seek not Beth–el, nor enter into Gilgal, and pass not to Beer–sheba: for Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, and Beth–el shall come to nought.
Amos DRC 5:6  Seek ye the Lord, and live: lest the house of Joseph be burnt with fire, and it shall devour, and there shall be none to quench Bethel.
Amos KJV 5:6  Seek the Lord, and ye shall live; lest he break out like fire in the house of Joseph, and devour it, and there be none to quench it in Beth–el.
Amos DRC 5:7  You that turn judgment into wormwood, and forsake justice in the land,
Amos KJV 5:7  Ye who turn judgment to wormwood, and leave off righteousness in the earth,
Amos VulgClem 5:7  qui convertitis in absinthium judicium, et justitiam in terra relinquitis) :
Amos DRC 5:8  Seek him that maketh Arcturus, and Orion, and that turneth darkness into morning, and that changeth day into night: that calleth the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The Lord is his name.
Amos KJV 5:8  Seek him that maketh the seven stars and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with night: that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The Lord is his name:
Amos VulgClem 5:8  facientem Arcturum et Orionem, et convertentem in mane tenebras, et diem in noctem mutantem ; qui vocat aquas maris, et effundit eas super faciem terræ ; Dominus nomen est ejus :
Amos DRC 5:9  He that with a smile bringeth destruction upon the strong, and waste upon the mighty.
Amos KJV 5:9  That strengtheneth the spoiled against the strong, so that the spoiled shall come against the fortress.
Amos DRC 5:10  They have hated him that rebuketh in the gate: and have abhorred him that speaketh perfectly.
Amos KJV 5:10  They hate him that rebuketh in the gate, and they abhor him that speaketh uprightly.
Amos DRC 5:11  Therefore because you robbed the poor, and took the choice prey from him: you shall build houses with square stone, and shall not dwell in them: you shall plant most delightful vineyards, and shall not drink the wine of them.
Amos KJV 5:11  Forasmuch therefore as your treading is upon the poor, and ye take from him burdens of wheat: ye have built houses of hewn stone, but ye shall not dwell in them; ye have planted pleasant vineyards, but ye shall not drink wine of them.
Amos DRC 5:12  Because I know your manifold crimes, and your grievous sins: enemies of the just, taking bribes, and oppressing the poor in the gate.
Amos KJV 5:12  For I know your manifold transgressions and your mighty sins: they afflict the just, they take a bribe, and they turn aside the poor in the gate from their right.
Amos VulgClem 5:12  Quia cognovi multa scelera vestra, et fortia peccata vestra : hostes justi, accipientes munus, et pauperes deprimentes in porta.
Amos DRC 5:13  Therefore the prudent shall keep silence at that time, for it is an evil time.
Amos KJV 5:13  Therefore the prudent shall keep silence in that time; for it is an evil time.
Amos VulgClem 5:13  Ideo prudens in tempore illo tacebit, quia tempus malum est.
Amos DRC 5:14  Seek ye good, and not evil, that you may live: and the Lord the God of hosts will be with you, as you have said.
Amos KJV 5:14  Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live: and so the Lord, the God of hosts, shall be with you, as ye have spoken.
Amos DRC 5:15  Hate evil, and love good, and establish judgment in the gate: it may be the Lord the God of hosts may have mercy on the remnant of Joseph.
Amos KJV 5:15  Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgment in the gate: it may be that the Lord God of hosts will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph.
Amos DRC 5:16  Therefore thus saith the Lord the God of hosts the sovereign Lord: In every street there shall be wailing: and in all places that are without, they shall say: Alas, alas! and they shall call the husbandman to mourning, and such as are skilful in lamentation to lament.
Amos KJV 5:16  Therefore the Lord, the God of hosts, the Lord, saith thus; Wailing shall be in all streets; and they shall say in all the highways, Alas! alas! and they shall call the husbandman to mourning, and such as are skilful of lamentation to wailing.
Amos DRC 5:17  And in all vineyards there shall be wailing: because I will pass through in the midst of thee, saith the Lord.
Amos KJV 5:17  And in all vineyards shall be wailing: for I will pass through thee, saith the Lord.
Amos VulgClem 5:17  Et in omnibus vineis erit planctus, quia pertransibo in medio tui, dicit Dominus.
Amos DRC 5:18  Woe to them that desire the day of the Lord: to what end is it for you? the day of the Lord is darkness, and not light.
Amos KJV 5:18  Woe unto you that desire the day of the Lord! to what end is it for you? the day of the Lord is darkness, and not light.
Amos VulgClem 5:18  Væ desiderantibus diem Domini ! ad quid eam vobis ? Dies Domini ista, tenebræ, et non lux.
Amos DRC 5:19  As if a man should flee from the face of a lion, and a bear should meet him: or enter into the house, and lean with his hand upon the wall, and a serpent should bite him.
Amos KJV 5:19  As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him.
Amos DRC 5:20  Shall not the day of the Lord be darkness, and not light: and obscurity, and no brightness in it?
Amos KJV 5:20  Shall not the day of the Lord be darkness, and not light? even very dark, and no brightness in it?
Amos DRC 5:21  I hate, and have rejected your festivities: and I will not receive the odour of your assemblies.
Amos KJV 5:21  I hate, I despise your feast days, and I will not smell in your solemn assemblies.
Amos DRC 5:22  And if you offer me holocausts, and your gifts, I will not receive them: neither will I regard the vows of your fat beasts.
Amos KJV 5:22  Though ye offer me burnt offerings and your meat offerings, I will not accept them: neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat beasts.
Amos DRC 5:23  Take away from me the tumult of thy songs: and I will not hear the canticles of thy harp.
Amos KJV 5:23  Take thou away from me the noise of thy songs; for I will not hear the melody of thy viols.
Amos VulgClem 5:23  Aufer a me tumultum carminum tuorum ; et cantica lyræ tuæ non audiam.
Amos DRC 5:24  But judgment shall be revealed as water, and justice as a mighty torrent.
Amos KJV 5:24  But let judgment run down as waters, and righteousness as a mighty stream.
Amos VulgClem 5:24  Et revelabitur quasi aqua judicium, et justitia quasi torrens fortis.
Amos DRC 5:25  Did you offer victims and sacrifices to me in the desert for forty years, O house of Israel?
Amos KJV 5:25  Have ye offered unto me sacrifices and offerings in the wilderness forty years, O house of Israel?
Amos VulgClem 5:25  Numquid hostias et sacrificium obtulistis mihi in deserto quadraginta annis, domus Israël ?
Amos DRC 5:26  But you carried a tabernacle for your Moloch, and the image of your idols, the star of your god, which you made to yourselves.
Amos KJV 5:26  But ye have borne the tabernacle of your Moloch and Chiun your images, the star of your god, which ye made to yourselves.
Amos VulgClem 5:26  et portastis tabernaculum Moloch vestro, et imaginem idolorum vestrorum, sidus dei vestri, quæ fecistis vobis.
Amos DRC 5:27  And I will cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus, saith the Lord, the God of hosts is his name.
Amos KJV 5:27  Therefore will I cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus, saith the Lord, whose name is The God of hosts.
Amos VulgClem 5:27  Et migrare vos faciam trans Damascum, dicit Dominus : Deus exercituum nomen ejus.
Chapter 6
Amos DRC 6:1  Woe to you that are wealthy in Sion, and to you that have confidence in the mountain of Samaria: ye great men, heads of the people, that go in with state into the house of Israel.
Amos KJV 6:1  Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came!
Amos VulgClem 6:1  Væ qui opulenti estis in Sion, et confiditis in monte Samariæ : optimates capita populorum, ingredientes pompatice domum Israël !
Amos DRC 6:2  Pass ye over to Chalane, and see, and go from thence into Emath the great: and go down into Geth of the Philistines, and to all the best kingdoms of these: if their border be larger than your border.
Amos KJV 6:2  Pass ye unto Calneh, and see; and from thence go ye to Hamath the great: then go down to Gath of the Philistines: be they better than these kingdoms? or their border greater than your border?
Amos DRC 6:3  You that are separated unto the evil day: and that approach to the throne of iniquity;
Amos KJV 6:3  Ye that put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near;
Amos VulgClem 6:3  Qui separati estis in diem malum, et appropinquatis solio iniquitatis ;
Amos DRC 6:4  You that sleep upon beds of ivory, and are wanton on your couches: that eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the herd;
Amos KJV 6:4  That lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall;
Amos VulgClem 6:4  qui dormitis in lectis eburneis, et lascivitis in stratis vestris ; qui comeditis agnum de grege, et vitulos de medio armenti ;
Amos DRC 6:5  You that sing to the sound of the psaltery: they have thought themselves to have instruments of music like David;
Amos KJV 6:5  That chant to the sound of the viol, and invent to themselves instruments of musick, like David;
Amos VulgClem 6:5  qui canitis ad vocem psalterii, sicut David putaverunt se habere vasa cantici,
Amos DRC 6:6  That drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the best ointments: and they are not concerned for the affliction of Joseph.
Amos KJV 6:6  That drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments: but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.
Amos VulgClem 6:6  bibentes vinum in phialis, et optimo unguento delibuti, et nihil patiebantur super contritione Joseph.
Amos DRC 6:7  Wherefore now they shall go captive at the head of them that go into captivity: and the faction of the luxurious ones shall be taken away.
Amos KJV 6:7  Therefore now shall they go captive with the first that go captive, and the banquet of them that stretched themselves shall be removed.
Amos VulgClem 6:7  Quapropter nunc migrabunt in capite transmigrantium, et auferetur factio lascivientium.
Amos DRC 6:8  The Lord God hath sworn by his own soul, saith the Lord the God of hosts: I detest the pride of Jacob, and I hate his houses, and I will deliver up the city with the inhabitants thereof.
Amos KJV 6:8  The Lord God hath sworn by himself, saith the Lord the God of hosts, I abhor the excellency of Jacob, and hate his palaces: therefore will I deliver up the city with all that is therein.
Amos VulgClem 6:8  Juravit Dominus Deus in anima sua, dicit Dominus Deus exercituum : Detestor ego superbiam Jacob, et domos ejus odi, et tradam civitatem cum habitatoribus suis.
Amos DRC 6:9  And if there remain ten men in one house, they also shall die.
Amos KJV 6:9  And it shall come to pass, if there remain ten men in one house, that they shall die.
Amos VulgClem 6:9  Quod si reliqui fuerint decem viri in domo una, et ipsi morientur.
Amos DRC 6:10  And a man's kinsman shall take him up, and shall burn him, that he may carry the bones out of the house; and he shall say to him that is in the inner rooms of the house: Is there yet any with thee?
Amos KJV 6:10  And a man’s uncle shall take him up, and he that burneth him, to bring out the bones out of the house, and shall say unto him that is by the sides of the house, Is there yet any with thee? and he shall say, No. Then shall he say, Hold thy tongue: for we may not make mention of the name of the Lord.
Amos DRC 6:11  And he shall answer: There is an end. And he shall say to him: Hold thy peace, and mention not the name of the Lord.
Amos KJV 6:11  For, behold, the Lord commandeth, and he will smite the great house with breaches, and the little house with clefts.
Amos DRC 6:12  For behold the Lord hath commanded, and he will strike the greater house with breaches, and the lesser house with clefts.
Amos KJV 6:12  Shall horses run upon the rock? will one plow there with oxen? for ye have turned judgment into gall, and the fruit of righteousness into hemlock:
Amos VulgClem 6:12  Quia ecce Dominus mandabit, et percutiet domum majorem ruinis, et domum minorem scissionibus.
Amos DRC 6:13  Can horses run upon the rocks, or can any one plough with buffles? for you have turned judgment into bitterness, and the fruit of justice into wormwood.
Amos KJV 6:13  Ye which rejoice in a thing of nought, which say, Have we not taken to us horns by our own strength?
Amos VulgClem 6:13  Numquid currere queunt in petris equi, aut arari potest in bubalis ? quoniam convertistis in amaritudinem judicium, et fructum justitiæ in absinthium.
Amos DRC 6:14  You that rejoice in a thing of nought: you that say: Have we not taken unto us horns by our own strength?
Amos KJV 6:14  But, behold, I will raise up against you a nation, O house of Israel, saith the Lord the God of hosts; and they shall afflict you from the entering in of Hemath unto the river of the wilderness.
Amos VulgClem 6:14  Qui lætamini in nihilo ; qui dicitis : Numquid non in fortitudine nostra assumpsimus nobis cornua ?
Amos DRC 6:15  But behold, I will raise up a nation against you, O house of Israel, saith the Lord the God of hosts; and they shall destroy you from the entrance of Emath, even to the torrent of the desert.
Amos KJV 6:15
Chapter 7
Amos DRC 7:1  These things the Lord God shewed to me: and behold the locust was formed in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter rain, and lo, it was the latter rain after the king's mowing.
Amos KJV 7:1  Thus hath the Lord God shewed unto me; and, behold, he formed grasshoppers in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and, lo, it was the latter growth after the king’s mowings.
Amos VulgClem 7:1  Hæc ostendit mihi Dominus Deus : et ecce fictor locustæ in principio germinantium serotini imbris, et ecce serotinus post tonsionem regis.
Amos DRC 7:2  And it came to pass, that when they had made an end of eating the grass of the land, I said: O Lord God, be merciful, I beseech thee: who shall raise up Jacob, for he is very little?
Amos KJV 7:2  And it came to pass, that when they had made an end of eating the grass of the land, then I said, O Lord God, forgive, I beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small.
Amos VulgClem 7:2  Et factum est, cum consummasset comedere herbam terræ, dixi : Domine Deus, propitius esto, obsecro ; quis suscitabit Jacob, quia parvulus est ?
Amos DRC 7:3  The Lord had pity upon this: It shall not be, said the Lord.
Amos KJV 7:3  The Lord repented for this: It shall not be, saith the Lord.
Amos DRC 7:4  These things the Lord God shewed to me: and behold the Lord called for judgment unto fire, and it devoured the great deep, and ate up a part at the same time.
Amos KJV 7:4  Thus hath the Lord God shewed unto me: and, behold, the Lord God called to contend by fire, and it devoured the great deep, and did eat up a part.
Amos DRC 7:5  And I said: O Lord God, cease, I beseech thee, who shall raise up Jacob, for he is a little one?
Amos KJV 7:5  Then said I, O Lord God, cease, I beseech thee: by whom shall Jacob arise? for he is small.
Amos VulgClem 7:5  Et dixi : Domine Deus, quiesce, obsecro ; quis suscitabit Jacob, quia parvulus est ?
Amos DRC 7:6  The Lord had pity upon this. Yea this also shall not be, said the Lord God.
Amos KJV 7:6  The Lord repented for this: This also shall not be, saith the Lord God.
Amos DRC 7:7  These things the Lord shewed to me: and behold the Lord was standing upon a plastered wall, and in his hand a mason's trowel.
Amos KJV 7:7  Thus he shewed me: and, behold, the Lord stood upon a wall made by a plumbline, with a plumbline in his hand.
Amos VulgClem 7:7  Hæc ostendit mihi Dominus : et ecce Dominus stans super murum litum, et in manu ejus trulla cæmentarii.
Amos DRC 7:8  And the Lord said to me: What seest thou, Amos? And I said: A mason's trowel. And the Lord said: Behold, I will lay down the trowel in the midst of my people Israel. I will plaster them over no more.
Amos KJV 7:8  And the Lord said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumbline. Then said the Lord, Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more:
Amos VulgClem 7:8  Et dixit Dominus ad me : Quid tu vides, Amos ? Et dixi : Trullam cæmentarii. Et dixit Dominus : Ecce ego ponam trullam in medio populi mei Israël ; non adjiciam ultra superinducere eum.
Amos DRC 7:9  And the high places of the idol shall be thrown down, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste: and I will rise up against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.
Amos KJV 7:9  And the high places of Isaac shall be desolate, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.
Amos VulgClem 7:9  Et demolientur excelsa idoli, et sanctificationes Israël desolabuntur, et consurgam super domum Jeroboam in gladio.
Amos DRC 7:10  And Amasias the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying: Amos hath rebelled against thee in the midst of the house of Israel: the land is not able to bear all his words.
Amos KJV 7:10  Then Amaziah the priest of Beth–el sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, Amos hath conspired against thee in the midst of the house of Israel: the land is not able to bear all his words.
Amos VulgClem 7:10  Et misit Amasias, sacerdos Bethel, ad Jeroboam, regem Israël, dicens : Rebellavit contra te Amos in medio domus Israël ; non poterit terra sustinere universos sermones ejus.
Amos DRC 7:11  For thus saith Amos: Jeroboam shall die by the sword, and Israel shall be carried away captive out of their own land.
Amos KJV 7:11  For thus Amos saith, Jeroboam shall die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of their own land.
Amos DRC 7:12  And Amasias said to Amos: Thou seer, go, flee away into the land of Juda: and eat bread there, and prophesy there.
Amos KJV 7:12  Also Amaziah said unto Amos, O thou seer, go, flee thee away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there:
Amos VulgClem 7:12  Et dixit Amasias ad Amos : Qui vides, gradere : fuge in terram Juda, et comede ibi panem, et prophetabis ibi.
Amos DRC 7:13  But prophesy not again any more in Bethel: because it is the king's sanctuary, and it is the house of the kingdom.
Amos KJV 7:13  But prophesy not again any more at Beth–el: for it is the king’s chapel, and it is the king’s court.
Amos DRC 7:14  And Amos answered and said to Amasias: I am not a prophet, nor am I the son of a prophet: but I am a herdsman plucking wild figs.
Amos KJV 7:14  Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet’s son; but I was an herdman, and a gatherer of sycomore fruit:
Amos VulgClem 7:14  Responditque Amos, et dixit ad Amasiam : Non sum propheta, et non sum filius prophetæ : sed armentarius ego sum vellicans sycomoros.
Amos DRC 7:15  And the Lord took me when I followed the flock, and the Lord said to me: Go, prophesy to my people Israel.
Amos KJV 7:15  And the Lord took me as I followed the flock, and the Lord said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.
Amos VulgClem 7:15  Et tulit me Dominus cum sequerer gregem, et dixit Dominus ad me : Vade, propheta ad populum meum Israël.
Amos DRC 7:16  And now hear thou the word of the Lord: Thou sayest, thou shalt not prophesy against Israel, and thou shalt not drop thy word upon the house of the idol.
Amos KJV 7:16  Now therefore hear thou the word of the Lord: Thou sayest, Prophesy not against Israel, and drop not thy word against the house of Isaac.
Amos VulgClem 7:16  Et nunc audi verbum Domini : Tu dicis : Non prophetabis super Israël, et non stillabis super domum idoli.
Amos DRC 7:17  Therefore thus saith the Lord: Thy wife shall play the harlot in the city, and thy sons and thy daughters shall fall by the sword, and thy land shall be measured by a line: and thou shalt die in a polluted land, and Israel shall go into captivity out of their land.
Amos KJV 7:17  Therefore thus saith the Lord; Thy wife shall be an harlot in the city, and thy sons and thy daughters shall fall by the sword, and thy land shall be divided by line; and thou shalt die in a polluted land: and Israel shall surely go into captivity forth of his land.
Chapter 8
Amos DRC 8:1  These things the Lord shewed to me: and behold a hook to draw down the fruit.
Amos KJV 8:1  Thus hath the Lord God shewed unto me: and behold a basket of summer fruit.
Amos VulgClem 8:1  Hæc ostendit mihi Dominus Deus : et ecce uncinus pomorum.
Amos DRC 8:2  And he said: What seest thou, Amos? And I said: A hook to draw down fruit. And the Lord said to me: The end is come upon my people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more.
Amos KJV 8:2  And he said, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A basket of summer fruit. Then said the Lord unto me, The end is come upon my people of Israel; I will not again pass by them any more.
Amos VulgClem 8:2  Et dixit : Quid tu vides, Amos ?
Amos DRC 8:3  And the hinges of the temple shall screak in that day, saith the Lord God: many shall die: silence shall be cast in every place.
Amos KJV 8:3  And the songs of the temple shall be howlings in that day, saith the Lord God: there shall be many dead bodies in every place; they shall cast them forth with silence.
Amos VulgClem 8:3  Et stridebunt cardines templi in die illa, dicit Dominus Deus : multi morientur ; in omni loco projicietur silentium.
Amos DRC 8:4  Hear this, you that crush the poor, and make the needy of the land to fail,
Amos KJV 8:4  Hear this, O ye that swallow up the needy, even to make the poor of the land to fail,
