Chapter 1
Hose DRC 1:1  The word of the Lord, that came to Hosea, the son of Beeri, in the days of Ozias, Joathan, Achaz, and Ezechias, kings of Juda, and in the days of Jeroboam, the son of Joas, king of Israel.
Hose VulgClem 1:1  Verbum Domini, quod factum est ad Osee, filium Beeri, in diebus Oziæ, Joathan, Achaz, Ezechiæ, regum Juda ; et in diebus Jeroboam, filii Joas, regis Israël.
Hose KJV 1:1  The word of the Lord that came unto Hosea, the son of Beeri, in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel.
Hose DRC 1:2  The beginning of the Lord's speaking by Hosea: and the Lord said to Hosea: Go, take thee a wife of fornications, and have of her children of fornications: for the land by fornication shall depart from the Lord.
Hose VulgClem 1:2  Principium loquendi Domino in Osee. Et dixit Dominus ad Osee : Vade, sume tibi uxorem fornicationum, et fac tibi filios fornicationum, quia fornicans fornicabitur terra a Domino.
Hose KJV 1:2  The beginning of the word of the Lord by Hosea. And the Lord said to Hosea, Go, take unto thee a wife of whoredoms and children of whoredoms: for the land hath committed great whoredom, departing from the Lord.
Hose DRC 1:3  So he went and took Gomer, the daughter of Debelaim: and she conceived, and bore him a son.
Hose KJV 1:3  So he went and took Gomer the daughter of Diblaim; which conceived, and bare him a son.
Hose DRC 1:4  And the Lord said to him: Call his name Jezrahel: for yet a little while, and I will visit the blood of Jezrahel upon the house of Jehu, and I will cause to cease the kingdom of the house of Israel.
Hose VulgClem 1:4  Et dixit Dominus ad eum : Voca nomen ejus Jezrahel, quoniam adhuc modicum, et visitabo sanguinem Jezrahel super domum Jehu, et quiescere faciam regnum domus Israël.
Hose KJV 1:4  And the Lord said unto him, Call his name Jezreel; for yet a little while, and I will avenge the blood of Jezreel upon the house of Jehu, and will cause to cease the kingdom of the house of Israel.
Hose DRC 1:5  And in that day I will break in pieces the bow of Israel in the valley of Jezrahel.
Hose VulgClem 1:5  Et in illa die conteram arcum Israël in valle Jezrahel.
Hose KJV 1:5  And it shall come to pass at that day, that I will break the bow of Israel in the valley of Jezreel.
Hose DRC 1:6  And she conceived again, and bore a daughter, and he said to him: Call her name, Without mercy: for I will not add any more to have mercy on the house of Israel, but I will utterly forget them.
Hose KJV 1:6  And she conceived again, and bare a daughter. And God said unto him, Call her name Lo–ruhamah: for I will no more have mercy upon the house of Israel; but I will utterly take them away.
Hose DRC 1:7  And I will have mercy on the house of Juda, and I will save them by the Lord, their God: and I will not save them by bow, nor by sword, nor by battle, nor by horses, nor by horsemen.
Hose KJV 1:7  But I will have mercy upon the house of Judah, and will save them by the Lord their God, and will not save them by bow, nor by sword, nor by battle, by horses, nor by horsemen.
Hose DRC 1:8  And she weaned her that was called Without mercy. And she conceived, and bore a son.
Hose VulgClem 1:8  Et ablactavit eam quæ erat Absque misericordia. Et concepit, et peperit filium.
Hose KJV 1:8  Now when she had weaned Lo–ruhamah, she conceived, and bare a son.
Hose DRC 1:9  And he said: Call his name, Not my people: for you are not my people, and I will not be yours.
Hose KJV 1:9  Then said God, Call his name Lo–ammi: for ye are not my people, and I will not be your God.
Hose DRC 1:10  And the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, that is without measure, and shall not be numbered. And it shall be in the place where it shall be said to them: You are not my people: it shall be said to them: Ye are the sons of the living God.
Hose KJV 1:10  Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people, there it shall be said unto them, Ye are the sons of the living God.
Hose DRC 1:11  And the children of Juda, and the children of Israel, shall be gathered together: and they shall appoint themselves one head, and shall come up out of the land: for great is the day of Jezrahel.
Hose KJV 1:11  Then shall the children of Judah and the children of Israel be gathered together, and appoint themselves one head, and they shall come up out of the land: for great shall be the day of Jezreel.
Chapter 2
Hose DRC 2:1  Say ye to your brethren: You are my people: and to your sister: Thou hast obtained mercy.
Hose VulgClem 2:1  Dicite fratribus vestris : Populus meus ; et sorori vestræ : Misericordiam consecuta.
Hose KJV 2:1  Say ye unto your brethren, Ammi; and to your sisters, Ru–hamah.
Hose DRC 2:2  Judge your mother, judge her: because she is not my wife, and I am not her husband. Let her put away her fornications from her face, and her adulteries from between her breasts.
Hose VulgClem 2:2  Judicate matrem vestram, judicate, quoniam ipsa non uxor mea, et ego non vir ejus. Auferat fornicationes suas a facie sua, et adulteria sua de medio uberum suorum ;
Hose KJV 2:2  Plead with your mother, plead: for she is not my wife, neither am I her husband: let her therefore put away her whoredoms out of her sight, and her adulteries from between her breasts;
Hose DRC 2:3  Lest I strip her naked, and set her as in the day that she was born: and I will make her as a wilderness, and will set her as a land that none can pass through and will kill her with drought.
Hose KJV 2:3  Lest I strip her naked, and set her as in the day that she was born, and make her as a wilderness, and set her like a dry land, and slay her with thirst.
Hose DRC 2:4  And I will not have mercy on her children, for they are the children of fornications.
Hose KJV 2:4  And I will not have mercy upon her children; for they be the children of whoredoms.
Hose DRC 2:5  For their mother hath committed fornication, she that conceived them is covered with shame: for she said: I will go after my lovers, that give me my bread, and my water, my wool, and my flax, my oil, and my drink.
Hose KJV 2:5  For their mother hath played the harlot: she that conceived them hath done shamefully: for she said, I will go after my lovers, that give me my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, mine oil and my drink.
Hose DRC 2:6  Wherefore, behold, I will hedge up thy way with thorns, and I will stop it up with a wall, and she shall not find her paths.
Hose KJV 2:6  Therefore, behold, I will hedge up thy way with thorns, and make a wall, that she shall not find her paths.
Hose DRC 2:7  And she shall follow after her lovers, and shall not overtake them: and she shall seek them, and shall not find, and she shall say: I will go, and return to my first husband: because it was better with me then than now.
Hose KJV 2:7  And she shall follow after her lovers, but she shall not overtake them; and she shall seek them, but shall not find them: then shall she say, I will go and return to my first husband; for then was it better with me than now.
Hose DRC 2:8  And she did not know that I gave her corn, and wine, and oil, and multiplied her silver, and gold, which they have used in the service of Baal.
Hose KJV 2:8  For she did not know that I gave her corn, and wine, and oil, and multiplied her silver and gold, which they prepared for Baal.
Hose DRC 2:9  Therefore will I return, and take away my corn in its season, and my wine in its season, and I will set at liberty my wool, and my flax, which covered her disgrace.
Hose VulgClem 2:9  Idcirco convertar, et sumam frumentum meum in tempore suo, et vinum meum in tempore suo. Et liberabo lanam meam et linum meum, quæ operiebant ignominiam ejus.
Hose KJV 2:9  Therefore will I return, and take away my corn in the time thereof, and my wine in the season thereof, and will recover my wool and my flax given to cover her nakedness.
Hose DRC 2:10  And now I will lay open her folly in the eyes of her lovers: and no man shall deliver her out of my hand:
Hose VulgClem 2:10  Et nunc revelabo stultitiam ejus in oculis amatorum ejus ; et vir non eruet eam de manu mea ;
Hose KJV 2:10  And now will I discover her lewdness in the sight of her lovers, and none shall deliver her out of mine hand.
Hose DRC 2:11  And I will cause all her mirth to cease, her solemnities, her new moons, her sabbaths, and all her festival times.
Hose VulgClem 2:11  et cessare faciam omne gaudium ejus, solemnitatem ejus, neomeniam ejus, sabbatum ejus, et omnia festa tempora ejus.
Hose KJV 2:11  I will also cause all her mirth to cease, her feast days, her new moons, and her sabbaths, and all her solemn feasts.
Hose DRC 2:12  And I will destroy her vines, and her fig trees, of which she said: These are my rewards, which my lovers have given me: and I will make her as a forest and the beasts of the field shall devour her.
Hose KJV 2:12  And I will destroy her vines and her fig trees, whereof she hath said, These are my rewards that my lovers have given me: and I will make them a forest, and the beasts of the field shall eat them.
Hose DRC 2:13  And I will visit upon her the days of Baalim, to whom she burnt incense, and decked herself out with her earrings, and with her jewels, and went after her lovers, and forgot me, saith the Lord.
Hose VulgClem 2:13  Et visitabo super eam dies Baalim, quibus accendebat incensum, et ornabatur in aure sua, et monili suo. Et ibat post amatores suos, et mei obliviscebatur, dicit Dominus.
Hose KJV 2:13  And I will visit upon her the days of Baalim, wherein she burned incense to them, and she decked herself with her earrings and her jewels, and she went after her lovers, and forgat me, saith the Lord.
Hose DRC 2:14  Therefore, behold I will allure her, and will lead her into the wilderness: and I will speak to her heart.
Hose KJV 2:14  Therefore, behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak comfortably unto her.
Hose DRC 2:15  And I will give her vinedressers out of the same place, and the valley of Achor for an opening of hope: and she shall sing there according to the days of her youth, and according to the days of her coming up out of the land of Egypt.
Hose KJV 2:15  And I will give her her vineyards from thence, and the valley of Achor for a door of hope: and she shall sing there, as in the days of her youth, and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt.
Hose DRC 2:16  And it shall be in that day, saith the Lord: That she shall call me: My husband, and she shall call me no more Baali.
Hose VulgClem 2:16  Et erit in die illa, ait Dominus : vocabit me, Vir meus, et non vocabit me ultra Baali.
Hose KJV 2:16  And it shall be at that day, saith the Lord, that thou shalt call me Ishi; and shalt call me no more Baali.
Hose DRC 2:17  And I will take away the names of Baalim out of her mouth, and she shall no more remember their name.
Hose KJV 2:17  For I will take away the names of Baalim out of her mouth, and they shall no more be remembered by their name.
Hose DRC 2:18  And in that day I will make a covenant with them, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of the air, and with the creeping things of the earth: and I will destroy the bow, and the sword, and war out of the land: and I will make them sleep secure.
Hose KJV 2:18  And in that day will I make a covenant for them with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven, and with the creeping things of the ground: and I will break the bow and the sword and the battle out of the earth, and will make them to lie down safely.
Hose DRC 2:19  And I will espouse thee to me for ever: and I will espouse thee to me in justice, and judgment, and in mercy, and in commiserations.
Hose VulgClem 2:19  Et sponsabo te mihi in sempiternum ; et sponsabo te mihi in justitia, et judicio, et in misericordia, et in miserationibus.
Hose KJV 2:19  And I will betroth thee unto me for ever; yea, I will betroth thee unto me in righteousness, and in judgment, and in lovingkindness, and in mercies.
Hose DRC 2:20  And I will espouse thee to me in faith: and thou shalt know that I am the Lord.
Hose VulgClem 2:20  Et sponsabo te mihi in fide ; et scies quia ego Dominus.
Hose KJV 2:20  I will even betroth thee unto me in faithfulness: and thou shalt know the Lord.
Hose DRC 2:21  And it shall come to pass in that day: I will hear, saith the Lord, I will hear the heavens, and they shall hear the earth.
Hose VulgClem 2:21  Et erit in die illa : exaudiam, dicit Dominus, exaudiam cælos, et illi exaudient terram.
Hose KJV 2:21  And it shall come to pass in that day, I will hear, saith the Lord, I will hear the heavens, and they shall hear the earth;
Hose DRC 2:22  And the earth shall hear the corn, and the wine, and the oil, and these shall hear Jezrahel.
Hose VulgClem 2:22  Et terra exaudiet triticum, et vinum, et oleum, et hæc exaudient Jezrahel.
Hose KJV 2:22  And the earth shall hear the corn, and the wine, and the oil; and they shall hear Jezreel.
Hose DRC 2:23  And I will sow her unto me in the earth, and I will have mercy on her that was without mercy.
Hose VulgClem 2:23  Et seminabo eam mihi in terra, et miserebor ejus quæ fuit Absque misericordia.
Hose KJV 2:23  And I will sow her unto me in the earth; and I will have mercy upon her that had not obtained mercy; and I will say to them which were not my people, Thou art my people; and they shall say, Thou art my God.
Hose DRC 2:24  And I will say to that which is not my people: Thou art my people: and they shall say: Thou art my God.
Hose VulgClem 2:24  Et dicam Non populo meo : Populus meus es tu ; et ipse dicet : Deus meus es tu.
Hose KJV 2:24
Chapter 3
Hose DRC 3:1  And the Lord said to me: Go yet again, and love a woman beloved of her friend, and an adulteress: as the Lord loveth the children of Israel, and they look to strange gods, and love the husks of the grapes.
Hose KJV 3:1  Then said the Lord unto me, Go yet, love a woman beloved of her friend, yet an adulteress, according to the love of the Lord toward the children of Israel, who look to other gods, and love flagons of wine.
Hose DRC 3:2  And I bought her to me for fifteen pieces of silver, and for a core of barley, and for half a core of barley.
Hose VulgClem 3:2  Et fodi eam mihi quindecim argenteis, et coro hordei, et dimidio coro hordæi.
Hose KJV 3:2  So I bought her to me for fifteen pieces of silver, and for an homer of barley, and an half homer of barley:
Hose DRC 3:3  And I said to her: Thou shalt wait for me many days: thou shalt not play the harlot, and thou shalt be no man's, and I also will wait for thee.
Hose KJV 3:3  And I said unto her, Thou shalt abide for me many days; thou shalt not play the harlot, and thou shalt not be for another man: so will I also be for thee.
Hose DRC 3:4  For the children of Israel shall sit many days without king, and without prince, and without sacrifice, and without altar, and without ephod, and without theraphim.
Hose VulgClem 3:4  Quia dies multos sedebunt filii Israël sine rege, et sine principe, et sine sacrificio, et sine altari, et sine ephod, et sine theraphim.
Hose KJV 3:4  For the children of Israel shall abide many days without a king, and without a prince, and without a sacrifice, and without an image, and without an ephod, and without teraphim:
Hose DRC 3:5  And after this the children of Israel shall return and shall seek the Lord, their God, and David, their king: and they shall fear the Lord, and his goodness, in the last days.
Hose KJV 3:5  Afterward shall the children of Israel return, and seek the Lord their God, and David their king; and shall fear the Lord and his goodness in the latter days.
Chapter 4
Hose DRC 4:1  Hear the word of the Lord, ye children of Israel, for the Lord shall enter into judgment with the inhabitants of the land: for there is no truth, and there is no mercy, and there is no knowledge of God in the land.
Hose KJV 4:1  Hear the word of the Lord, ye children of Israel: for the Lord hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land.
Hose DRC 4:2  Cursing, and lying, and killing, and theft, and adultery, have overflowed, and blood hath touched blood.
Hose VulgClem 4:2  Maledictum, et mendacium, et homicidium, et furtum, et adulterium inundaverunt, et sanguis sanguinem tetigit.
Hose KJV 4:2  By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood toucheth blood.
Hose DRC 4:3  Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth in it shall languish with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of the air: yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be gathered together.
Hose KJV 4:3  Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven; yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.
Hose DRC 4:4  But yet let not any man judge: and let not a man be rebuked: for thy people are as they that contradict the priest.
Hose KJV 4:4  Yet let no man strive, nor reprove another: for thy people are as they that strive with the priest.
Hose DRC 4:5  And thou shalt fall today, and the prophet also shall fall with thee: in the night I have made thy mother to be silent.
Nocte tacere feci matrem tuam.
Hose KJV 4:5  Therefore shalt thou fall in the day, and the prophet also shall fall with thee in the night, and I will destroy thy mother.
Hose DRC 4:6  My people have been silent, because they had no knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will reject thee, that thou shalt not do the office of priesthood to me: and thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I also will forget thy children.
Hose VulgClem 4:6  Conticuit populus meus, eo quod non habuerit scientiam : quia tu scientiam repulisti, repellam te, ne sacerdotio fungaris mihi ; et oblita es legis Dei tui, obliviscar filiorum tuorum et ego.
Hose KJV 4:6  My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.
Hose DRC 4:7  According to the multitude of them, so have they sinned against me: I will change their glory into shame.
Hose VulgClem 4:7  Secundum multitudinem eorum sic peccaverunt mihi : gloriam eorum in ignominiam commutabo.
Hose KJV 4:7  As they were increased, so they sinned against me: therefore will I change their glory into shame.
Hose DRC 4:8  They shall eat the sins of my people, and shall lift up their souls to their iniquity.
Hose KJV 4:8  They eat up the sin of my people, and they set their heart on their iniquity.
Hose DRC 4:9  And there shall be like people like priest: and I will visit their ways upon them, and I will repay them their devices.
Hose KJV 4:9  And there shall be, like people, like priest: and I will punish them for their ways, and reward them their doings.
Hose DRC 4:10  And they shall eat and shall not be filled: they have committed fornication, and have not ceased: because they have forsaken the Lord in not observing the law.
Hose KJV 4:10  For they shall eat, and not have enough: they shall commit whoredom, and shall not increase: because they have left off to take heed to the Lord.
Hose DRC 4:11  Fornication, and wine, and drunkenness, take away the understanding.
Hose VulgClem 4:11  Fornicatio, et vinum, et ebrietas auferunt cor.
Hose KJV 4:11  Whoredom and wine and new wine take away the heart.
Hose DRC 4:12  My people have consulted their stocks, and their staff hath declared unto them: for the spirit of fornication hath deceived them, and they have committed fornication against their God.
Hose KJV 4:12  My people ask counsel at their stocks, and their staff declareth unto them: for the spirit of whoredoms hath caused them to err, and they have gone a whoring from under their God.
Hose DRC 4:13  They offered sacrifice upon the tops of the mountains, and burnt incense upon the hills: under the oak, and the poplar, and the turpentine tree, because the shadow thereof was good: therefore shall your daughters commit fornication, and your spouses shall be adulteresses.
Hose VulgClem 4:13  Super capita montium sacrificabant, et super colles ascendebant thymiama ; subtus quercum, et populum, et terebinthum, quia bona erat umbra ejus ; ideo fornicabuntur filiæ vestræ, et sponsæ vestræ adulteræ erunt.
Hose KJV 4:13  They sacrifice upon the tops of the mountains, and burn incense upon the hills, under oaks and poplars and elms, because the shadow thereof is good: therefore your daughters shall commit whoredom, and your spouses shall commit adultery.
Hose DRC 4:14  I will not visit upon your daughters, when they shall commit fornication, and upon your spouses when they shall commit adultery: because themselves conversed with harlots, and offered sacrifice with the effeminate, and the people that doth not understand shall be beaten.
Hose KJV 4:14  I will not punish your daughters when they commit whoredom, nor your spouses when they commit adultery: for themselves are separated with whores, and they sacrifice with harlots: therefore the people that doth not understand shall fall.
Hose DRC 4:15  If thou play the harlot, O Israel, at least let not Juda offend: and go ye not into Galgal, and come not up into Bethaven, and do not swear: The Lord liveth.
Hose KJV 4:15  Though thou, Israel, play the harlot, yet let not Judah offend; and come not ye unto Gilgal, neither go ye up to Beth–aven, nor swear, The Lord liveth.
Hose DRC 4:16  For Israel hath gone astray like a wanton heifer now will the Lord feed them, as a lamb in a spacious place.
Hose VulgClem 4:16  Quoniam sicut vacca lasciviens declinavit Israël ; nunc pascet eos Dominus, quasi agnum in latitudine.
Hose KJV 4:16  For Israel slideth back as a backsliding heifer: now the Lord will feed them as a lamb in a large place.
Hose DRC 4:17  Ephraim is a partaker with idols, let him alone.
Hose VulgClem 4:17  Particeps idolorum Ephraim : dimitte eum.
Hose KJV 4:17  Ephraim is joined to idols: let him alone.
Hose DRC 4:18  Their banquet is separated, they have gone astray by fornication: they that should have protected them have loved to bring shame upon them.
Hose VulgClem 4:18  Separatum est convivium eorum ; fornicatione fornicati sunt : dilexerunt afferre ignominiam protectores ejus.
Hose KJV 4:18  Their drink is sour: they have committed whoredom continually: her rulers with shame do love, Give ye.
Hose DRC 4:19  The wind hath bound them up in its wings, and they shall be confounded because of their sacrifices.
Hose VulgClem 4:19  Ligavit eum spiritus in alis suis, et confundentur a sacrificiis suis.
Hose KJV 4:19  The wind hath bound her up in her wings, and they shall be ashamed because of their sacrifices.
Chapter 5
Hose DRC 5:1  Hear ye this, O priests, and hearken, O ye house of Israel, and give ear, O house of the king: for there is a judgment against you, because you have been a snare to them whom you should have watched over and a net spread upon Thabor.
Hose KJV 5:1  Hear ye this, O priests; and hearken, ye house of Israel; and give ye ear, O house of the king; for judgment is toward you, because ye have been a snare on Mizpah, and a net spread upon Tabor.
Hose DRC 5:2  And you have turned aside victims into the depth and I am the teacher of them all.
Hose VulgClem 5:2  Et victimas declinastis in profundum ; et ego eruditor omnium eorum.
Hose KJV 5:2  And the revolters are profound to make slaughter, though I have been a rebuker of them all.
Hose DRC 5:3  I know Ephraim, and Israel is not hid from me for now Ephraim hath committed fornication, Israel is defiled.
Hose VulgClem 5:3  Ego scio Ephraim, et Israël non est absconditus a me : quia nunc fornicatus est Ephraim ; contaminatus est Israël.
Hose KJV 5:3  I know Ephraim, and Israel is not hid from me: for now, O Ephraim, thou committest whoredom, and Israel is defiled.
Hose DRC 5:4  They will not set their thoughts to return to their God: for the spirit of fornication is in the midst of them, and they have not known the Lord.
Hose KJV 5:4  They will not frame their doings to turn unto their God: for the spirit of whoredoms is in the midst of them, and they have not known the Lord.
Hose DRC 5:5  And the pride of Israel shall answer in his face: and Israel, and Ephraim shall fall in their iniquity, Juda also shall fall with them.
Hose KJV 5:5  And the pride of Israel doth testify to his face: therefore shall Israel and Ephraim fall in their iniquity; Judah also shall fall with them.
Hose DRC 5:6  With their flocks and with their herds, they shall go to seek the Lord, and shall not find him: he is withdrawn from them.
Hose KJV 5:6  They shall go with their flocks and with their herds to seek the Lord; but they shall not find him; he hath withdrawn himself from them.
Hose DRC 5:7  They have transgressed against the Lord: for they have begotten children that are strangers: now shall a month devour them with their portions.
Hose VulgClem 5:7  In Dominum prævaricati sunt, quia filios alienos genuerunt : nunc devorabit eos mensis, cum partibus suis.
Hose KJV 5:7  They have dealt treacherously against the Lord: for they have begotten strange children: now shall a month devour them with their portions.
Hose DRC 5:8  Blow ye the cornet in Gabaa, the trumpet in Rama: howl ye in Bethaven, behind thy back, O Benjamin.
Hose VulgClem 5:8  Clangite buccina in Gabaa, tuba in Rama ; ululate in Bethaven, post tergum tuum, Benjamin.
Hose KJV 5:8  Blow ye the cornet in Gibeah, and the trumpet in Ramah: cry aloud at Beth–aven, after thee, O Benjamin.
Hose DRC 5:9  Ephraim shall be in desolation in the day of rebuke: among the tribes of Israel I have shewn that which shall surely be.
Hose VulgClem 5:9  Ephraim in desolatione erit in die correptionis ; in tribubus Israël ostendi fidem.
Hose KJV 5:9  Ephraim shall be desolate in the day of rebuke: among the tribes of Israel have I made known that which shall surely be.
Hose DRC 5:10  The princes of Juda are become as they that take up the bound: I will pour out my wrath upon them like water.
Hose VulgClem 5:10  Facti sunt principes Juda quasi assumentes terminum ; super eos effundam quasi aquam iram meam.
Hose KJV 5:10  The princes of Judah were like them that remove the bound: therefore I will pour out my wrath upon them like water.
Hose DRC 5:11  Ephraim is under oppression, and broken in judgment: because he began to go after filthiness.
Hose VulgClem 5:11  Calumniam patiens est Ephraim, fractus judicio, quoniam cœpit abire post sordes.
Hose KJV 5:11  Ephraim is oppressed and broken in judgment, because he willingly walked after the commandment.
Hose DRC 5:12  And I will be like a moth to Ephraim: and like rottenness to the house of Juda.
Hose VulgClem 5:12  Et ego quasi tinea Ephraim, et quasi putredo domui Juda.
Hose KJV 5:12  Therefore will I be unto Ephraim as a moth, and to the house of Judah as rottenness.
Hose DRC 5:13  And Ephraim saw his sickness, and Juda his band: and Ephraim went to the Assyrian, and sent to the avenging king: and he shall not be able to heal you, neither shall he be able to take off the band from you.
Hose KJV 5:13  When Ephraim saw his sickness, and Judah saw his wound, then went Ephraim to the Assyrian, and sent to king Jareb: yet could he not heal you, nor cure you of your wound.
Hose DRC 5:14  For I will be like a lioness to Ephraim, and like a lion's whelp to the house of Juda: I, I will catch, and go: I will take away, and there is none that can rescue.
Hose KJV 5:14  For I will be unto Ephraim as a lion, and as a young lion to the house of Judah: I, even I, will tear and go away; I will take away, and none shall rescue him.
Hose DRC 5:15  I will go and return to my place: until you are consumed, and seek my face.
Hose KJV 5:15  I will go and return to my place, till they acknowledge their offence, and seek my face: in their affliction they will seek me early.
Chapter 6
Hose DRC 6:1  In their affliction they will rise early to me: Come, and let us return to the Lord.
Hose KJV 6:1  Come, and let us return unto the Lord: for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up.
Hose DRC 6:2  For he hath taken us, and he will heal us: he will strike, and he will cure us.
Hose VulgClem 6:2  quia ipse cepit, et sanabit nos ; percutiet, et curabit nos.
Hose KJV 6:2  After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight.
Hose DRC 6:3  He will revive us after two days: on the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight. We shall know, and we shall follow on, that we may know the Lord. His going forth is prepared as the morning light, and he will come to us as the early and the latter rain to the earth.
Hose KJV 6:3  Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the Lord: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth.
Hose DRC 6:4  What shall I do to thee, O Ephraim? what shall I do to thee, O Juda? your mercy is as a morning cloud, and as the dew that goeth away in the morning.
Hose VulgClem 6:4  Quid faciam tibi, Ephraim ? quid faciam tibi, Juda ? misericordia vestra quasi nubes matutina, et quasi ros mane pertransiens.
Hose KJV 6:4  O Ephraim, what shall I do unto thee? O Judah, what shall I do unto thee? for your goodness is as a morning cloud, and as the early dew it goeth away.
Hose DRC 6:5  For this reason have I hewed them by the prophets, I have slain them by the words of my mouth: and thy judgments shall go forth as the light.
Hose VulgClem 6:5  Propter hoc dolavi in prophetis ; occidi eos in verbis oris mei : et judicia tua quasi lux egredientur.
Hose KJV 6:5  Therefore have I hewed them by the prophets; I have slain them by the words of my mouth: and thy judgments are as the light that goeth forth.
Hose DRC 6:6  For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice: and the knowledge of God more than holocausts.
Hose KJV 6:6  For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.
Hose DRC 6:7  But they, like Adam, have transgressed the covenant, there have they dealt treacherously against me.
Hose KJV 6:7  But they like men have transgressed the covenant: there have they dealt treacherously against me.
Hose DRC 6:8  Galaad is a city of workers of idols, supplanted with blood.
Hose VulgClem 6:8  Galaad civitas operantium idolum, supplantata sanguine.
Hose KJV 6:8  Gilead is a city of them that work iniquity, and is polluted with blood.
Hose DRC 6:9  And like the jaws of highway robbers, they conspire with the priests who murder in the way those that pass out of Sichem: for they have wrought wickedness.
Hose VulgClem 6:9  Et quasi fauces virorum latronum, particeps sacerdotum, in via interficientium pergentes de Sichem : quia scelus operati sunt.
Hose KJV 6:9  And as troops of robbers wait for a man, so the company of priests murder in the way by consent: for they commit lewdness.
Hose DRC 6:10  I have seen a horrible thing in the house of Israel: the fornications of Ephraim there: Israel is defiled.
Hose VulgClem 6:10  In domo Israël vidi horrendum : ibi fornicationes Ephraim, contaminatus est Israël.
Hose KJV 6:10  I have seen an horrible thing in the house of Israel: there is the whoredom of Ephraim, Israel is defiled.
Hose DRC 6:11  And thou also, O Juda, set thee a harvest, when I shall bring back the captivity of my people.
Hose KJV 6:11  Also, O Judah, he hath set an harvest for thee, when I returned the captivity of my people.
Chapter 7
Hose DRC 7:1  When I would have healed Israel, the iniquity of Ephraim was discovered, and the wickedness of Samaria, for they have committed falsehood, and the thief is come in to steal, the robber is without.
Hose KJV 7:1  When I would have healed Israel, then the iniquity of Ephraim was discovered, and the wickedness of Samaria: for they commit falsehood; and the thief cometh in, and the troop of robbers spoileth without.
Hose DRC 7:2  And lest they may say in their hearts, that I remember all their wickedness: their own devices now have beset them about, they have been done before my face.
Hose VulgClem 7:2  Et ne forte dicant in cordibus suis, omnem malitiam eorum me recordatum, nunc circumdederunt eos adinventiones suæ : coram facie mea factæ sunt.
Hose KJV 7:2  And they consider not in their hearts that I remember all their wickedness: now their own doings have beset them about; they are before my face.
Hose DRC 7:3  They have made the king glad with their wickedness: and the princes with their lies.
Hose VulgClem 7:3  In malitia sua lætificaverunt regem, et in mendaciis suis principes.
Hose KJV 7:3  They make the king glad with their wickedness, and the princes with their lies.
Hose DRC 7:4  They are all adulterers, like an oven heated by the baker: the city rested a little from the mingling of the leaven, till the whole was leavened.
Hose VulgClem 7:4  Omnes adulterantes, quasi clibanus succensus a coquente ; quievit paululum civitas a commistione fermenti, donec fermentaretur totum.
Hose KJV 7:4  They are all adulterers, as an oven heated by the baker, who ceaseth from raising after he hath kneaded the dough, until it be leavened.
Hose DRC 7:5  The day of our king, the princes began to be mad with wine: he stretched out his hand with scorners.
Hose VulgClem 7:5  Dies regis nostri : cœperunt principes furere a vino ; extendit manum suam cum illusoribus.
Hose KJV 7:5  In the day of our king the princes have made him sick with bottles of wine; he stretched out his hand with scorners.
Hose DRC 7:6  Because they have applied their heart like an oven, when he laid snares for them: he slept all the night baking them, in the morning he himself was heated as a flaming fire.
Hose VulgClem 7:6  Quia applicuerunt quasi clibanum cor suum, cum insidiaretur eis ; tota nocte dormivit coquens eos : mane ipse succensus quasi ignis flammæ.
Hose KJV 7:6  For they have made ready their heart like an oven, whiles they lie in wait: their baker sleepeth all the night; in the morning it burneth as a flaming fire.
Hose DRC 7:7  They were all heated like an oven, and have devoured their judges: all their kings have fallen: there is none amongst them that calleth unto me.
Hose KJV 7:7  They are all hot as an oven, and have devoured their judges; all their kings are fallen: there is none among them that calleth unto me.
Hose DRC 7:8  Ephraim himself is mixed among the nations: Ephraim is become as bread baked under the ashes, that is not turned.
Hose KJV 7:8  Ephraim, he hath mixed himself among the people; Ephraim is a cake not turned.
Hose DRC 7:9  Strangers have devoured his strength, and he knew it not: yea, grey hairs also are spread about upon him, and he is ignorant of it.
Hose KJV 7:9  Strangers have devoured his strength, and he knoweth it not: yea, gray hairs are here and there upon him, yet he knoweth not.
Hose DRC 7:10  And the pride of Israel shall be humbled before his face: and they have not returned to the Lord their God, nor have they sought him in all these.
Hose KJV 7:10  And the pride of Israel testifieth to his face: and they do not return to the Lord their God, nor seek him for all this.
Hose DRC 7:11  And Ephraim is become as a dove that is decoyed, not having a heart: they called upon Egypt, they went to the Assyrians.
Hose KJV 7:11  Ephraim also is like a silly dove without heart: they call to Egypt, they go to Assyria.
Hose DRC 7:12  And when they shall go, I will spread my net upon them: I will bring them down as the fowl of the air, I will strike them as their congregation hath heard.
Hose VulgClem 7:12  Et cum profecti fuerint, expandam super eos rete meum : quasi volucrem cæli detraham eos ; cædam eos secundum auditionem cœtus eorum.
Hose KJV 7:12  When they shall go, I will spread my net upon them; I will bring them down as the fowls of the heaven; I will chastise them, as their congregation hath heard.
Hose DRC 7:13  Woe to them, for they have departed from me: they shall be wasted because they have transgressed against me: and I redeemed them: and they have spoken lies against me.
Hose VulgClem 7:13  Væ eis, quoniam recesserunt a me ! vastabuntur, quia prævaricati sunt in me, et ego redemi eos, et ipsi locuti sunt contra me mendacia.
Hose KJV 7:13  Woe unto them! for they have fled from me: destruction unto them! because they have transgressed against me: though I have redeemed them, yet they have spoken lies against me.
Hose DRC 7:14  And they have not cried to me with their heart, but they howled in their beds: they have thought upon wheat and wine, they are departed from me.
Hose VulgClem 7:14  Et non clamaverunt ad me in corde suo, sed ululabant in cubilibus suis : super triticum et vinum ruminabant ; recesserunt a me.
Hose KJV 7:14  And they have not cried unto me with their heart, when they howled upon their beds: they assemble themselves for corn and wine, and they rebel against me.
Hose DRC 7:15  And I have chastised them, and strengthened their arms: and they have imagined evil against me.
Hose VulgClem 7:15  Et ego erudivi eos, et confortavi brachia eorum, et in me cogitaverunt malitiam.
Hose KJV 7:15  Though I have bound and strengthened their arms, yet do they imagine mischief against me.
Hose DRC 7:16  They returned, that they might be without yoke: they became like a deceitful bow: their princes shall fall by the sword, for the rage of their tongue. This is their derision in the land of Egypt.
Hose VulgClem 7:16  Reversi sunt ut essent absque jugo ; facti sunt quasi arcus dolosus : cadent in gladio principes eorum, a furore linguæ suæ. Ista subsannatio eorum in terra Ægypti.
Hose KJV 7:16  They return, but not to the most High: they are like a deceitful bow: their princes shall fall by the sword for the rage of their tongue: this shall be their derision in the land of Egypt.
Chapter 8
Hose DRC 8:1  Let there be a trumpet in thy throat like an eagle upon the house of the Lord: because they have transgressed my covenant, and have violated my law.
Hose KJV 8:1  Set the trumpet to thy mouth. He shall come as an eagle against the house of the Lord, because they have transgressed my covenant, and trespassed against my law.
Hose DRC 8:2  They shall call upon me: O my God, we, Israel, know thee.
Hose VulgClem 8:2  Me invocabunt : Deus meus, cognovimus te Israël.
Hose KJV 8:2  Israel shall cry unto me, My God, we know thee.
Hose DRC 8:3  Israel hath cast off the thing that is good, the enemy shall pursue him.
Hose VulgClem 8:3  Projecit Israël bonum : inimicus persequetur eum.
Hose KJV 8:3  Israel hath cast off the thing that is good: the enemy shall pursue him.
Hose DRC 8:4  They have reigned, but not by me: they have been princes, and I knew not: of their silver and their gold they have made idols to themselves, that they might perish.
Hose KJV 8:4  They have set up kings, but not by me: they have made princes, and I knew it not: of their silver and their gold have they made them idols, that they may be cut off.
Hose DRC 8:5  Thy calf, O Samaria, is cast off, my wrath is kindled against them. How long will they be incapable of being cleansed?
Hose VulgClem 8:5  Projectus est vitulus tuus, Samaria ; iratus est furor meus in eos. Usquequo non poterunt emundari ?
Hose KJV 8:5  Thy calf, O Samaria, hath cast thee off; mine anger is kindled against them: how long will it be ere they attain to innocency?
Hose DRC 8:6  For itself also is the invention of Israel: a workman made it, and it is no god: for the calf of Samaria shall be turned to spiders' webs.
Hose KJV 8:6  For from Israel was it also: the workman made it; therefore it is not God: but the calf of Samaria shall be broken in pieces.
Hose DRC 8:7  For they shall sow wind, and reap a whirlwind, there is no standing stalk in it, the bud shall yield no meal; and if it should yield, strangers shall eat it.
Hose KJV 8:7  For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind: it hath no stalk: the bud shall yield no meal: if so be it yield, the strangers shall swallow it up.
Hose DRC 8:8  Israel is swallowed up: now is he become among the nations like an unclean vessel.
Hose VulgClem 8:8  Devoratus est Israël ; nunc factus est in nationibus quasi vas immundum.
Hose KJV 8:8  Israel is swallowed up: now shall they be among the Gentiles as a vessel wherein is no pleasure.
Hose DRC 8:9  For they are gone up to Assyria, a wild ass alone by himself: Ephraim hath given gifts to his lovers.
Hose VulgClem 8:9  Quia ipsi ascenderunt ad Assur, onager solitarius sibi ; Ephraim munera dederunt amatoribus.
Hose KJV 8:9  For they are gone up to Assyria, a wild ass alone by himself: Ephraim hath hired lovers.
Hose DRC 8:10  But even though they shall have hired the nations, now will I gather them together: and they shall rest a while from the burden of the king, and the princes.
Hose KJV 8:10  Yea, though they have hired among the nations, now will I gather them, and they shall sorrow a little for the burden of the king of princes.
Hose DRC 8:11  Because Ephraim hath made many altars to sin: altars are become to him unto sin.
Hose VulgClem 8:11  Quia multiplicavit Ephraim altaria ad peccandum ; factæ sunt ei aræ in delictum.
Hose KJV 8:11  Because Ephraim hath made many altars to sin, altars shall be unto him to sin.
Hose DRC 8:12  I shall write to him my manifold laws, which have been accounted as foreign.
Hose VulgClem 8:12  Scribam ei multiplices leges meas, quæ velut alienæ computatæ sunt.
Hose KJV 8:12  I have written to him the great things of my law, but they were counted as a strange thing.
Hose DRC 8:13  They shall offer victims, they shall sacrifice flesh, and shall eat it, and the Lord will not receive them: now will he remember their iniquity, and will visit their sins: they shall return to Egypt.
Hose KJV 8:13  They sacrifice flesh for the sacrifices of mine offerings, and eat it; but the Lord accepteth them not; now will he remember their iniquity, and visit their sins: they shall return to Egypt.
Hose DRC 8:14  And Israel hath forgotten his Maker, and hath built temples: and Juda hath built many fenced cities: and I will send a fire upon his cities, and it shall devour the houses thereof.
Hose KJV 8:14  For Israel hath forgotten his Maker, and buildeth temples; and Judah hath multiplied fenced cities: but I will send a fire upon his cities, and it shall devour the palaces thereof.
Chapter 9
Hose DRC 9:1  Rejoice not, O Israel: rejoice not as the nations do: for thou hast committed fornication against thy God, thou hast loved a reward upon every cornfloor.
Hose VulgClem 9:1  Noli lætari, Israël ; noli exsultare sicut populi : quia fornicatus es a Deo tuo ; dilexisti mercedem super omnes areas tritici.
Hose KJV 9:1  Rejoice not, O Israel, for joy, as other people: for thou hast gone a whoring from thy God, thou hast loved a reward upon every cornfloor.
Hose DRC 9:2  The floor and the winepress shall not feed them, and the wine shall deceive them.
Hose KJV 9:2  The floor and the winepress shall not feed them, and the new wine shall fail in her.
Hose DRC 9:3  They shall not dwell in the Lord's land: Ephraim is returned to Egypt, and hath eaten unclean things among the Assyrians.
Hose VulgClem 9:3  non habitabunt in terra Domini. Reversus est Ephraim in Ægyptum, et in Assyriis pollutum comedit.
Hose KJV 9:3  They shall not dwell in the Lord’s land; but Ephraim shall return to Egypt, and they shall eat unclean things in Assyria.
Hose DRC 9:4  They shall not offer wine to the Lord, neither shall they please him: their sacrifices shall be like the bread of mourners: all that shall eat it shall be defiled: for their bread is life for their soul, it shall not enter into the house of the Lord.
Sacrificia eorum quasi panis lugentium ; omnes qui comedent eum, contaminabuntur : quia panis eorum animæ ipsorum : non intrabit in domum Domini.
Hose KJV 9:4  They shall not offer wine offerings to the Lord, neither shall they be pleasing unto him: their sacrifices shall be unto them as the bread of mourners; all that eat thereof shall be polluted: for their bread for their soul shall not come into the house of the Lord.
Hose DRC 9:5  What will you do in the solemn day, in the day of the feast of the Lord?
Hose VulgClem 9:5  Quid facietis in die solemni, in die festivitatis Domini ?
Hose KJV 9:5  What will ye do in the solemn day, and in the day of the feast of the Lord?
Hose DRC 9:6  For behold they are gone because of destruction: Egypt shall gather them together, Memphis shall bury them: nettles shall inherit their beloved silver, the bur shall be in their tabernacles.
Hose VulgClem 9:6  Ecce enim profecti sunt a vastitate : Ægyptus congregabit eos ; Memphis sepeliet eos : desiderabile argentum eorum urtica hæreditabit, lappa in tabernaculis eorum.
Hose KJV 9:6  For, lo, they are gone because of destruction: Egypt shall gather them up, Memphis shall bury them: the pleasant places for their silver, nettles shall possess them: thorns shall be in their tabernacles.
Hose DRC 9:7  The days of visitation are come, the days of repaying are come: know ye, O Israel, that the prophet was foolish, the spiritual man was mad, for the multitude of thy iniquity, and the multitude of thy madness.
Hose VulgClem 9:7  Venerunt dies visitationis, venerunt dies retributionis. Scitote, Israël, stultum prophetam, insanum virum spiritualem, propter multitudinem iniquitatis tuæ, et multitudinem amentiæ.
Hose KJV 9:7  The days of visitation are come, the days of recompence are come; Israel shall know it: the prophet is a fool, the spiritual man is mad, for the multitude of thine iniquity, and the great hatred.
Hose DRC 9:8  The watchman of Ephraim was with my God: the prophet is become a snare of ruin upon all his ways, madness is in the house of his God.
Hose VulgClem 9:8  Speculator Ephraim cum Deo meo, propheta laqueus ruinæ factus est super omnes vias ejus ; insania in domo Dei ejus.
Hose KJV 9:8  The watchman of Ephraim was with my God: but the prophet is a snare of a fowler in all his ways, and hatred in the house of his God.
Hose DRC 9:9  They have sinned deeply, as in the days of Gabaa: he will remember their iniquity, and will visit their sin.
Hose VulgClem 9:9  Profunde peccaverunt, sicut in diebus Gabaa. Recordabitur iniquitatis eorum, et visitabit peccata eorum.
Hose KJV 9:9  They have deeply corrupted themselves, as in the days of Gibeah: therefore he will remember their iniquity, he will visit their sins.
Hose DRC 9:10  I found Israel like grapes in the desert, I saw their fathers like the firstfruits of the fig tree in the top thereof: but they went in to Beelphegor, and alienated themselves to that confusion, and became abominable, as those things were, which they loved.
Hose KJV 9:10  I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness; I saw your fathers as the firstripe in the fig tree at her first time: but they went to Baal–peor, and separated themselves unto that shame; and their abominations were according as they loved.
Hose DRC 9:11  As for Ephraim, their glory hath flown away like bird from the birth, and from the womb, and from the conception.
Hose VulgClem 9:11  Ephraim quasi avis avolavit ; gloria eorum a partu, et ab utero, et a conceptu.
Hose KJV 9:11  As for Ephraim, their glory shall fly away like a bird, from the birth, and from the womb, and from the conception.
Hose DRC 9:12  And though they should bring up their children, I will make them without children among men: yea, and woe to them, when I shall depart from them.
Hose KJV 9:12  Though they bring up their children, yet will I bereave them, that there shall not be a man left: yea, woe also to them when I depart from them!
Hose DRC 9:13  Ephraim, as I saw, was a Tyre, founded in beauty: and Ephraim shall bring out his children to the murderer.
Hose KJV 9:13  Ephraim, as I saw Tyrus, is planted in a pleasant place: but Ephraim shall bring forth his children to the murderer.
Hose DRC 9:14  Give them, O Lord. What wilt thou give them? Give them a womb without children, and dry breasts.
Hose VulgClem 9:14  Da eis, Domine. Quid dabis eis ? da eis vulvam sine liberis, et ubera arentia.
Hose KJV 9:14  Give them, O Lord: what wilt thou give? give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts.
Hose DRC 9:15  All their wickedness is in Galgal, for there I hated them: for the wickedness of their devices I will cast them forth out of my house: I will love them no more, all their princes are revolters.
Hose VulgClem 9:15  Omnes nequitiæ eorum in Galgal, quia ibi exosos habui eos.
Hose KJV 9:15  All their wickedness is in Gilgal: for there I hated them: for the wickedness of their doings I will drive them out of mine house, I will love them no more: all their princes are revolters.
Hose DRC 9:16  Ephraim is struck, their root is dried up, they shall yield no fruit. And if they should have issue, I will slay the best beloved fruit of their womb.
Hose KJV 9:16  Ephraim is smitten, their root is dried up, they shall bear no fruit: yea, though they bring forth, yet will I slay even the beloved fruit of their womb.
Hose DRC 9:17  My God will cast them away, because they hearkened not to him: and they shall be wanderers among the nations.
Hose VulgClem 9:17  Abjiciet eos Deus meus, quia non audierunt eum, et erunt vagi in nationibus.
Hose KJV 9:17  My God will cast them away, because they did not hearken unto him: and they shall be wanderers among the nations.
Chapter 10
Hose DRC 10:1  Israel a vine full of branches, the fruit is agreeable to it: according to the multitude of his fruit, he hath multiplied altars, according to the plenty of his land he hath abounded with idols.
Hose VulgClem 10:1  Vitis frondosa Israël, fructus adæquatus est ei : secundum multitudinem fructus sui multiplicavit altaria, juxta ubertatem terræ suæ exuberavit simulacris.
Hose KJV 10:1  Israel is an empty vine, he bringeth forth fruit unto himself: according to the multitude of his fruit he hath increased the altars; according to the goodness of his land they have made goodly images.
Hose DRC 10:2  Their heart is divided: now they shall perish: he shall break down their idols, he shall destroy their altars.
Hose VulgClem 10:2  Divisum est cor eorum, nunc interibunt ; ipse confringet simulacra eorum, depopulabitur aras eorum.
Hose KJV 10:2  Their heart is divided; now shall they be found faulty: he shall break down their altars, he shall spoil their images.
Hose DRC 10:3  For now they shall say: We have no king: because we fear not the Lord: and what shall a king do to us?
Hose KJV 10:3  For now they shall say, We have no king, because we feared not the Lord; what then should a king do to us?
Hose DRC 10:4  You speak words of an unprofitable vision, and you shall make a covenant: and judgment shall spring up as bitterness in the furrows of the field.
Hose VulgClem 10:4  Loquimini verba visionis inutilis, et ferietis fœdus ; et germinabit quasi amaritudo judicium super sulcos agri.
Hose KJV 10:4  They have spoken words, swearing falsely in making a covenant: thus judgment springeth up as hemlock in the furrows of the field.
Hose DRC 10:5  The inhabitants of Samaria have worshipped the calf of Bethaven: for the people thereof have mourned over it, and the wardens of its temple that rejoiced over it in its glory because it is departed from it.
Hose VulgClem 10:5  Vaccas Bethaven coluerunt habitatores Samariæ ; quia luxit super eum populus ejus, et æditui ejus super eum exsultaverunt in gloria ejus, quia migravit ab eo.
Hose KJV 10:5  The inhabitants of Samaria shall fear because of the calves of Beth–aven: for the people thereof shall mourn over it, and the priests thereof that rejoiced on it, for the glory thereof, because it is departed from it.
Hose DRC 10:6  For itself also is carried into Assyria, a present to the avenging king: shame shall fall upon Ephraim, and Israel shall be confounded in his own will.
Hose VulgClem 10:6  Siquidem et ipse in Assur delatus est, munus regi ultori. Confusio Ephraim capiet, et confundetur Israël in voluntate sua.
Hose KJV 10:6  It shall be also carried unto Assyria for a present to king Jareb: Ephraim shall receive shame, and Israel shall be ashamed of his own counsel.
Hose DRC 10:7  Samaria hath made her king to pass as froth upon the face of the water.
Hose VulgClem 10:7  Transire fecit Samaria regem suum quasi spumam super faciem aquæ.
Hose KJV 10:7  As for Samaria, her king is cut off as the foam upon the water.
Hose DRC 10:8  And the high places of the idol, the sin of Israel shall be destroyed: the bur and the thistle shall grow up over their altars: and they shall say to the mountains Cover us; and to the hills: Fall upon us.
Hose VulgClem 10:8  Et disperdentur excelsa idoli, peccatum Israël ; lappa et tribulus ascendet super aras eorum : et dicent montibus : Operite nos, et collibus : Cadite super nos.
Hose KJV 10:8  The high places also of Aven, the sin of Israel, shall be destroyed: the thorn and the thistle shall come up on their altars; and they shall say to the mountains, Cover us; and to the hills, Fall on us.
Hose DRC 10:9  From the days of Gabaa, Israel hath sinned, there they stood: the battle in Gabaa against the children of iniquity shall not overtake them.
Hose VulgClem 10:9  Ex diebus Gabaa peccavit Israël ; ibi steterunt. Non comprehendet eos in Gabaa prælium super filios iniquitatis.
Hose KJV 10:9  O Israel, thou hast sinned from the days of Gibeah: there they stood: the battle in Gibeah against the children of iniquity did not overtake them.
Hose DRC 10:10  According to my desire, I will chastise them: and the nations shall be gathered together against them, when they shall be chastised for their two iniquities.
Hose VulgClem 10:10  Juxta desiderium meum corripiam eos : congregabuntur super eos populi, cum corripientur propter duas iniquitates suas.
Hose KJV 10:10  It is in my desire that I should chastise them; and the people shall be gathered against them, when they shall bind themselves in their two furrows.
Hose DRC 10:11  Ephraim is a heifer taught to love to tread out corn, but I passed over upon the beauty of her neck: I will ride upon Ephraim, Juda shall plough, Jacob shall break the furrows for himself.
Hose VulgClem 10:11  Ephraim vitula docta diligere trituram, et ego transivi super pulchritudinem colli ejus : ascendam super Ephraim, arabit Judas ; confringet sibi sulcos Jacob.
Hose KJV 10:11  And Ephraim is as an heifer that is taught, and loveth to tread out the corn; but I passed over upon her fair neck: I will make Ephraim to ride; Judah shall plow, and Jacob shall break his clods.
Hose DRC 10:12  Sow for yourselves in justice, and reap in the mouth of mercy, break up your fallow ground: but the time to seek the Lord is, when he shall come that shall teach you justice.
Hose KJV 10:12  Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the Lord, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.
Hose DRC 10:13  You have ploughed wickedness, you have reaped iniquity, you have eaten the fruit of lying: because thou hast trusted in thy ways, in the multitude of thy strong ones.
Hose VulgClem 10:13  Arastis impietatem, iniquitatem messuistis : comedistis frugem mendacii, quia confisus es in viis tuis, in multitudine fortium tuorum.
Hose KJV 10:13  Ye have plowed wickedness, ye have reaped iniquity; ye have eaten the fruit of lies: because thou didst trust in thy way, in the multitude of thy mighty men.
Hose DRC 10:14  A tumult shall arise among thy people: and all thy fortresses shall be destroyed as Salmana was destroyed, by the house of him that judged Baal in the day of battle, the mother being dashed in pieces upon her children.
Hose VulgClem 10:14  Consurget tumultus in populo tuo ; et omnes munitiones tuæ vastabuntur, sicut vastatus est Salmana a domo ejus qui judicavit Baal in die prælii, matre super filios allisa.
Hose KJV 10:14  Therefore shall a tumult arise among thy people, and all thy fortresses shall be spoiled, as Shalman spoiled Beth–arbel in the day of battle: the mother was dashed in pieces upon her children.
Hose DRC 10:15  So hath Bethel done to you, because of the evil of your iniquities.
Hose VulgClem 10:15  Sic fecit vobis Bethel, a facie malitiæ nequitiarum vestrarum.
Hose KJV 10:15  So shall Beth–el do unto you because of your great wickedness: in a morning shall the king of Israel utterly be cut off.
Chapter 11
Hose DRC 11:1  As the morning passeth, so hath the king of Israel passed away. Because Israel was a child, and I loved him: and I called my son out of Egypt.
Hose VulgClem 11:1  Sicut mane transiit, pertransiit rex Israël.
Hose KJV 11:1  When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt.
Hose DRC 11:2  As they called them, they went away from before their face: they offered victims to Baalim, and sacrificed to idols.
Hose VulgClem 11:2  Vocaverunt eos, sic abierunt a facie eorum ; Baalim immolabant, et simulacris sacrificabant.
Hose KJV 11:2  As they called them, so they went from them: they sacrificed unto Baalim, and burned incense to graven images.
Hose DRC 11:3  And I was like a foster father to Ephraim, I carried them in my arms: and they knew not that I healed them.
Hose VulgClem 11:3  Et ego quasi nutritius Ephraim : portabam eos in brachiis meis, et nescierunt quod curarem eos.
Hose KJV 11:3  I taught Ephraim also to go, taking them by their arms; but they knew not that I healed them.
Hose DRC 11:4  I will draw them with the cords of Adam, with the bands of love: and I will be to them as one that taketh off the yoke on their jaws: and I put his meat to him that he might eat.
Hose KJV 11:4  I drew them with cords of a man, with bands of love: and I was to them as they that take off the yoke on their jaws, and I laid meat unto them.
Hose DRC 11:5  He shall not return into the land of Egypt, but the Assyrian shall be his king: because they would not be converted.
Hose VulgClem 11:5  Non revertetur in terram Ægypti, et Assur ipse rex ejus, quoniam noluerunt converti.
Hose KJV 11:5  He shall not return into the land of Egypt, but the Assyrian shall be his king, because they refused to return.
Hose DRC 11:6  The sword hath begun in his cities, and it shall consume his chosen men, and shall devour their heads.
Hose VulgClem 11:6  Cœpit gladius in civitatibus ejus, et consumet electos ejus, et comedet capita eorum.
Hose KJV 11:6  And the sword shall abide on his cities, and shall consume his branches, and devour them, because of their own counsels.
Hose DRC 11:7  And my people shall long for my return: but a yoke shall be put upon them together, which shall not be taken off.
Hose KJV 11:7  And my people are bent to backsliding from me: though they called them to the most High, none at all would exalt him.
Hose DRC 11:8  How shall I deal with thee, O Ephraim, shall I protect thee, O Israel? how shall I make thee as Adama, shall I set thee as Seboim? my heart is turned within me, my repentance is stirred up.
Hose VulgClem 11:8  Quomodo dabo te, Ephraim ? protegam te, Israël ? Quomodo dabo te sicut Adama, ponam te ut Seboim ? Conversum est in me cor meum, pariter conturbata est pœnitudo mea.
Hose KJV 11:8  How shall I give thee up, Ephraim? how shall I deliver thee, Israel? how shall I make thee as Admah? how shall I set thee as Zeboim? mine heart is turned within me, my repentings are kindled together.
Hose DRC 11:9  I will not execute the fierceness of my wrath: I will not return to destroy Ephraim: because I am God, and not man: the holy one in the midst of thee, and I will not enter into the city.
Hose KJV 11:9  I will not execute the fierceness of mine anger, I will not return to destroy Ephraim: for I am God, and not man; the Holy One in the midst of thee: and I will not enter into the city.
Hose DRC 11:10  They shall walk after the Lord, he shall roar as a lion: because he shall roar, and the children of the sea shall fear.
Hose VulgClem 11:10  Post Dominum ambulabunt ; quasi leo rugiet, quia ipse rugiet, et formidabunt filii maris.
Hose KJV 11:10  They shall walk after the Lord: he shall roar like a lion: when he shall roar, then the children shall tremble from the west.
Hose DRC 11:11  And they shall fly away like a bird out of Egypt, and like a dove out of the land of the Assyrians: and I will place them in their own houses, saith the Lord.
Hose KJV 11:11  They shall tremble as a bird out of Egypt, and as a dove out of the land of Assyria: and I will place them in their houses, saith the Lord.
Hose DRC 11:12  Ephraim hath compassed me about with denials, and the house of Israel with deceit: but Juda went down as a witness with God, and is faithful with the saints.
Hose KJV 11:12  Ephraim compasseth me about with lies, and the house of Israel with deceit: but Judah yet ruleth with God, and is faithful with the saints.
Chapter 12
Hose DRC 12:1  Ephraim feedeth on the wind, and followeth the burning heat: all the day long he multiplied lies and desolation: and he hath made a covenant with the Assyrians, and carried oil into Egypt.
Hose KJV 12:1  Ephraim feedeth on wind, and followeth after the east wind: he daily increaseth lies and desolation; and they do make a covenant with the Assyrians, and oil is carried into Egypt.
Hose DRC 12:2  Therefore there is a judgment of the Lord with Juda, and a visitation for Jacob: he will render to him according to his ways, and according to his devices.
Hose KJV 12:2  The Lord hath also a controversy with Judah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways; according to his doings will he recompense him.
Hose DRC 12:3  In the womb he supplanted his brother: and by his strength he had success with an angel.
Hose KJV 12:3  He took his brother by the heel in the womb, and by his strength he had power with God:
Hose DRC 12:4  And he prevailed over the angel, and was strengthened: he wept, and made supplication to him: he found him in Bethel, and there he spoke with us.
Hose KJV 12:4  Yea, he had power over the angel, and prevailed: he wept, and made supplication unto him: he found him in Beth–el, and there he spake with us;
Hose DRC 12:5  Even the Lord God of hosts, the Lord is his memorial.
Hose VulgClem 12:5  Et Dominus Deus exercituum, Dominus memoriale ejus.
Hose KJV 12:5  Even the Lord God of hosts; the Lord is his memorial.
Hose DRC 12:6  Therefore turn thou to thy God: keep mercy and judgment, and hope in thy God always.
Hose KJV 12:6  Therefore turn thou to thy God: keep mercy and judgment, and wait on thy God continually.
Hose DRC 12:7  He is like Chanaan, there is a deceitful balance in his hand, he hath loved oppression.
Hose VulgClem 12:7  Chanaan, in manu ejus statera dolosa, calumniam dilexit.
Hose KJV 12:7  He is a merchant, the balances of deceit are in his hand: he loveth to oppress.
Hose DRC 12:8  And Ephraim said: But yet I am become rich, I have found me an idol: all my labours shall not find me the iniquity that I have committed.
Hose VulgClem 12:8  Et dixit Ephraim : Verumtamen dives effectus sum ; inveni idolum mihi : omnes labores mei non invenient mihi iniquitatem quam peccavi.
Hose KJV 12:8  And Ephraim said, Yet I am become rich, I have found me out substance: in all my labours they shall find none iniquity in me that were sin.
Hose DRC 12:9  And I that am the Lord thy God from the land of Egypt, will yet cause thee to dwell in tabernacles, as in the days of the feast.
Hose VulgClem 12:9  Et ego Dominus Deus tuus ex terra Ægypti : adhuc sedere te faciam in tabernaculis, sicut in diebus festivitatis.
Hose KJV 12:9  And I that am the Lord thy God from the land of Egypt will yet make thee to dwell in tabernacles, as in the days of the solemn feast.
Hose DRC 12:10  And I have spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and I have used similitudes by the ministry of the prophets.
Hose VulgClem 12:10  Et locutus sum super prophetas, et ego visionem multiplicavi, et in manu prophetarum assimilatus sum.
Hose KJV 12:10  I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and used similitudes, by the ministry of the prophets.
Hose DRC 12:11  If Galaad be an idol, then in vain were they in Galgal offering sacrifices with bullocks: for their altars also are as heaps in the furrows of the field.
Hose VulgClem 12:11  Si Galaad idolum, ergo frustra erant in Galgal bobus immolantes ; nam et altaria eorum quasi acervi super sulcos agri.
Hose KJV 12:11  Is there iniquity in Gilead? surely they are vanity: they sacrifice bullocks in Gilgal; yea, their altars are as heaps in the furrows of the fields.
Hose DRC 12:12  Jacob fled into the country of Syria, and Israel served for a wife, and was a keeper for a wife.
Hose VulgClem 12:12  Fugit Jacob in regionem Syriæ, et servivit Israël in uxorem, et in uxorem servavit.
Hose KJV 12:12  And Jacob fled into the country of Syria, and Israel served for a wife, and for a wife he kept sheep.
Hose DRC 12:13  But the Lord by a prophet brought Israel out of Egypt: and he was preserved by a prophet.
Hose KJV 12:13  And by a prophet the Lord brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet was he preserved.
Hose DRC 12:14  Ephraim hath provoked me to wrath with his bitterness, and his blood shall come upon him, and his Lord will render his reproach unto him.
Hose VulgClem 12:14  Ad iracundiam me provocavit Ephraim in amaritudinibus suis : et sanguis ejus super eum veniet, et opprobrium ejus restituet ei Dominus suus.
Hose KJV 12:14  Ephraim provoked him to anger most bitterly: therefore shall he leave his blood upon him, and his reproach shall his Lord return unto him.
Chapter 13
Hose DRC 13:1  When Ephraim spoke, a horror seized Israel: and he sinned in Baal, and died.
Hose KJV 13:1  When Ephraim spake trembling, he exalted himself in Israel; but when he offended in Baal, he died.
Hose DRC 13:2  And now they have sinned more and more: and they have made to themselves a molten thing of their silver as the likeness of idols: the whole is the work of craftsmen: to these that say: Sacrifice men, ye that adore calves.
Hose VulgClem 13:2  Et nunc addiderunt ad peccandum ; feceruntque sibi conflatile de argento suo quasi similitudinem idolorum : factura artificum totum est : his ipsi dicunt : Immolate homines, vitulos adorantes.
Hose KJV 13:2  And now they sin more and more, and have made them molten images of their silver, and idols according to their own understanding, all of it the work of the craftsmen: they say of them, Let the men that sacrifice kiss the calves.
Hose DRC 13:3  Therefore they shall be as a morning cloud, and as the early dew that passeth away, as the dust that is driven with a whirlwind out of the floor, and as the smoke out of the chimney.
Hose KJV 13:3  Therefore they shall be as the morning cloud, and as the early dew that passeth away, as the chaff that is driven with the whirlwind out of the floor, and as the smoke out of the chimney.
Hose DRC 13:4  But I am the Lord thy God from the land of Egypt: and thou shalt know no God but me, and there is no saviour beside me.
Hose VulgClem 13:4  Ego autem Dominus Deus tuus, ex terra Ægypti ; et Deum absque me nescies, et salvator non est præter me.
Hose KJV 13:4  Yet I am the Lord thy God from the land of Egypt, and thou shalt know no god but me: for there is no saviour beside me.
Hose DRC 13:5  I knew thee in the desert, in the land of the wilderness.
Hose VulgClem 13:5  Ego cognovi te in deserto, in terra solitudinis.
Hose KJV 13:5  I did know thee in the wilderness, in the land of great drought.
Hose DRC 13:6  According to their pastures they were filled, and were made full: and they lifted up their heart, and have forgotten me.
Hose KJV 13:6  According to their pasture, so were they filled; they were filled, and their heart was exalted; therefore have they forgotten me.
Hose DRC 13:7  And I will be to them as a lioness, as a leopard in the way of the Assyrians.
Hose VulgClem 13:7  Et ego ero eis quasi leæna, sicut pardus in via Assyriorum.
Hose KJV 13:7  Therefore I will be unto them as a lion: as a leopard by the way will I observe them:
Hose DRC 13:8  I will meet them as a bear that is robbed of her whelps, and I will rend the inner parts of their liver: and I will devour them there as a lion, the beast of the field shall tear them.
Hose VulgClem 13:8  Occurram eis quasi ursa raptis catulis, et dirumpam interiora jecoris eorum, et consumam eos ibi quasi leo : bestia agri scindet eos.
Hose KJV 13:8  I will meet them as a bear that is bereaved of her whelps, and will rend the caul of their heart, and there will I devour them like a lion: the wild beast shall tear them.
Hose DRC 13:9  Destruction is thy own, O Israel: thy help is only in me.
Hose VulgClem 13:9  Perditio tua, Israël : tantummodo in me auxilium tuum.
Hose KJV 13:9  O Israel, thou hast destroyed thyself; but in me is thine help.
Hose DRC 13:10  Where is thy king? now especially let him save thee in all thy cities: and thy judges, of whom thou saidst: Give me kings and princes.
Hose KJV 13:10  I will be thy king: where is any other that may save thee in all thy cities? and thy judges of whom thou saidst, Give me a king and princes?
Hose DRC 13:11  I will give thee a king in my wrath, and will take him away in my indignation.
Hose VulgClem 13:11  Dabo tibi regem in furore meo, et auferam in indignatione mea.
Hose KJV 13:11  I gave thee a king in mine anger, and took him away in my wrath.
Hose DRC 13:12  The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up, his sin is hidden.
Hose VulgClem 13:12  Colligata est iniquitas Ephraim ; absconditum peccatum ejus.
Hose KJV 13:12  The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up; his sin is hid.
Hose DRC 13:13  The sorrows of a woman in labour shall come upon him, he is an unwise son: for now he shall not stand in the breach of the children.
Hose KJV 13:13  The sorrows of a travailing woman shall come upon him: he is an unwise son; for he should not stay long in the place of the breaking forth of children.
Hose DRC 13:14  I will deliver them out of the hand of death. I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be thy death; O hell, I will be thy bite: comfort is hidden from my eyes.
Hose VulgClem 13:14  De manu mortis liberabo eos ; de morte redimam eos. Ero mors tua, o mors ! morsus tuus ero, inferne ! consolatio abscondita est ab oculis meis.
Hose KJV 13:14  I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy destruction: repentance shall be hid from mine eyes.
Hose DRC 13:15  Because he shall make a separation between brothers: the Lord will bring a burning wind that shall rise from the desert, and it shall dry up his springs, and shall make his fountain desolate, and he shall carry off the treasure of every desirable vessel.
Hose KJV 13:15  Though he be fruitful among his brethren, an east wind shall come, the wind of the Lord shall come up from the wilderness, and his spring shall become dry, and his fountain shall be dried up: he shall spoil the treasure of all pleasant vessels.
