Chapter 1
Nehe DRC 1:1  The words of Nehemiah the son of Helchias. And it came to pass in the month of Casleu, in the twentieth year, as I was in the castle of Susa,
Nehe VulgClem 1:1  Verba Nehemiæ filii Helchiæ. Et factum est in mense Casleu, anno vigesimo, et ego eram in Susis castro.
Nehe KJV 1:1  The words of Nehemiah the son of Hachaliah. And it came to pass in the month Chisleu, in the twentieth year, as I was in Shushan the palace,
Nehe DRC 1:2  That Hanani one of my brethren came, he and some men of Juda; and I asked them concerning the Jews, that remained and were left of the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem.
Nehe KJV 1:2  That Hanani, one of my brethren, came, he and certain men of Judah; and I asked them concerning the Jews that had escaped, which were left of the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem.
Nehe DRC 1:3  And they said to me: They that have remained, and are left of the captivity there in the province, are in great affliction, and reproach: and the wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and the gates thereof are burnt with fire.
Nehe KJV 1:3  And they said unto me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire.
Nehe DRC 1:4  And when I had heard these words, I sat down, and wept, and mourned for many days: and I fasted, and prayed before the face of the God of heaven.
Nehe VulgClem 1:4  Cumque audissem verba hujuscemodi, sedi, et flevi, et luxi diebus multis : jejunabam, et orabam ante faciem Dei cæli :
Nehe KJV 1:4  And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days, and fasted, and prayed before the God of heaven,
Nehe DRC 1:5  And I said: I beseech thee, O Lord God of heaven, strong, great, and terrible, who keepest covenant and mercy with those that love thee, and keep thy commandments:
Nehe VulgClem 1:5  et dixi : Quæso, Domine Deus cæli fortis, magne atque terribilis, qui custodis pactum et misericordiam cum his qui te diligunt, et custodiunt mandata tua :
Nehe KJV 1:5  And said, I beseech thee, O Lord God of heaven, the great and terrible God, that keepeth covenant and mercy for them that love him and observe his commandments:
Nehe DRC 1:6  Let thy ears be attentive, and thy eyes open, to hear the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee now, night and day, for the children of Israel thy servants: and I confess the sins of the children of Israel, by which they have sinned against thee: I and my father's house have sinned.
Nehe KJV 1:6  Let thine ear now be attentive, and thine eyes open, that thou mayest hear the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee now, day and night, for the children of Israel thy servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against thee: both I and my father’s house have sinned.
Nehe DRC 1:7  We have been seduced by vanity, and have not kept thy commandments, and ceremonies and judgments, which thou hast commanded thy servant Moses.
Nehe KJV 1:7  We have dealt very corruptly against thee, and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes, nor the judgments, which thou commandedst thy servant Moses.
Nehe DRC 1:8  Remember the word that thou commandedst to Moses thy servant, saying: If you shall transgress, I will scatter you abroad among the nations:
Nehe VulgClem 1:8  Memento verbi quod mandasti Moysi servo tuo, dicens : Cum transgressi fueritis, ego dispergam vos in populos :
Nehe KJV 1:8  Remember, I beseech thee, the word that thou commandedst thy servant Moses, saying, If ye transgress, I will scatter you abroad among the nations:
Nehe DRC 1:9  But if you return to me, and keep my commandments, and do them, though you should be led away to the uttermost parts of the world, I will gather you from thence, and bring you back to the place which I have chosen for my name to dwell there.
Nehe KJV 1:9  But if ye turn unto me, and keep my commandments, and do them; though there were of you cast out unto the uttermost part of the heaven, yet will I gather them from thence, and will bring them unto the place that I have chosen to set my name there.
Nehe DRC 1:10  And these are thy servants, and thy people: whom thou hast redeemed by thy great strength, and by thy mighty hand.
Nehe VulgClem 1:10  Et ipsi servi tui, et populus tuus, quos redemisti in fortitudine tua magna, et in manu tua valida.
Nehe KJV 1:10  Now these are thy servants and thy people, whom thou hast redeemed by thy great power, and by thy strong hand.
Nehe DRC 1:11  I beseech thee, O Lord, let thy ear be attentive to the prayer of thy servant, and to the prayer of thy servants who desire to fear thy name: and direct thy servant this day, and give him mercy before this man. For I was the king's cupbearer.
Nehe KJV 1:11  O Lord, I beseech thee, let now thine ear be attentive to the prayer of thy servant, and to the prayer of thy servants, who desire to fear thy name: and prosper, I pray thee, thy servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man. For I was the king’s cupbearer.
Chapter 2
Nehe DRC 2:1  And it came to pass in the month of Nisan, in the twentieth year of Artaxerxes the king: that wine was before him, and I took up the wine, and gave it to the king: and I was as one languishing away before his face.
Nehe KJV 2:1  And it came to pass in the month Nisan, in the twentieth year of Artaxerxes the king, that wine was before him: and I took up the wine, and gave it unto the king. Now I had not been beforetime sad in his presence.
Nehe DRC 2:2  And the king said to me: Why is thy countenance sad, seeing thou dost not appear to be sick? this is not without cause, but some evil, I know not what, is in thy heart. And I was seized with an exceeding great fear:
Nehe VulgClem 2:2  Dixitque mihi rex : Quare vultus tuus tristis est, cum te ægrotum non videam ? non est hoc frustra, sed malum nescio quod in corde tuo est. Et timui valde, ac nimis :
Nehe KJV 2:2  Wherefore the king said unto me, Why is thy countenance sad, seeing thou art not sick? this is nothing else but sorrow of heart. Then I was very sore afraid,
Nehe DRC 2:3  And I said to the king: O king, live for ever: why should not my countenance be sorrowful, seeing the city of the place of the sepulchres of my fathers is desolate, and the gates thereof are burnt with fire?
Nehe KJV 2:3  And said unto the king, Let the king live for ever: why should not my countenance be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers’ sepulchres, lieth waste, and the gates thereof are consumed with fire?
Nehe DRC 2:4  Then the king said to me: For what dost thou make request? And I prayed to the God of heaven,
Nehe VulgClem 2:4  Et ait mihi rex : Pro qua re postulas ? Et oravi Deum cæli,
Nehe KJV 2:4  Then the king said unto me, For what dost thou make request? So I prayed to the God of heaven.
Nehe DRC 2:5  And I said to the king: If it seem good to the king, and if thy servant hath found favour in thy sight, that thou wouldst send me into Judea to the city of the sepulchre of my father, and I will build it.
Nehe KJV 2:5  And I said unto the king, If it please the king, and if thy servant have found favour in thy sight, that thou wouldest send me unto Judah, unto the city of my fathers’ sepulchres, that I may build it.
Nehe DRC 2:6  And the king said to me, and the queen that sat by him: For how long shall thy journey be, and when wilt thou return? And it pleased the king, and he sent me: and I fixed him a time.
Nehe KJV 2:6  And the king said unto me, (the queen also sitting by him,) For how long shall thy journey be? and when wilt thou return? So it pleased the king to send me; and I set him a time.
Nehe DRC 2:7  And I said to the king: If it seem good to the king, let him give me letters to the governors of the country beyond the river, that they convey me over, till I come into Judea:
Nehe VulgClem 2:7  Et dixi regi : Si regi videtur bonum, epistolas det mihi ad duces regionis trans flumen, ut traducant me, donec veniam in Judæam :
Nehe KJV 2:7  Moreover I said unto the king, If it please the king, let letters be given me to the governors beyond the river, that they may convey me over till I come into Judah;
Nehe DRC 2:8  And a letter to Asaph the keeper of the king's forest, to give me timber that I may cover the gates of the tower of the house, and the walls of the city, and the house that I shall enter into. And the king gave me according to the good hand of my God with me.
Nehe KJV 2:8  And a letter unto Asaph the keeper of the king’s forest, that he may give me timber to make beams for the gates of the palace which appertained to the house, and for the wall of the city, and for the house that I shall enter into. And the king granted me, according to the good hand of my God upon me.
Nehe DRC 2:9  And I came to the governors of the country beyond the river, and gave them the king's letters. And the king had sent with me captains of soldiers, and horsemen.
Nehe KJV 2:9  Then I came to the governors beyond the river, and gave them the king’s letters. Now the king had sent captains of the army and horsemen with me.
Nehe DRC 2:10  And Sanaballat the Horonite, and Tobias the servant, the Ammonite, heard it, and it grieved them exceedingly, that a man was come, who sought the prosperity of the children of Israel.
Nehe KJV 2:10  When Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, heard of it, it grieved them exceedingly that there was come a man to seek the welfare of the children of Israel.
Nehe DRC 2:11  And I came to Jerusalem, and was there three days.
Nehe VulgClem 2:11  Et veni Jerusalem, et eram ibi tribus diebus.
Nehe KJV 2:11  So I came to Jerusalem, and was there three days.
Nehe DRC 2:12  And I arose in the night, I and some few men with me, and I told not any man what God had put in my heart to do in Jerusalem, and there was no beast with me, but the beast that I rode upon.
Nehe KJV 2:12  And I arose in the night, I and some few men with me; neither told I any man what my God had put in my heart to do at Jerusalem: neither was there any beast with me, save the beast that I rode upon.
Nehe DRC 2:13  And I went out by night by the gate of the valley, and before the dragon fountain, and to the dung gate, and I viewed the wall of Jerusalem which was broken down, and the gates thereof which were consumed with fire.
Nehe KJV 2:13  And I went out by night by the gate of the valley, even before the dragon well, and to the dung port, and viewed the walls of Jerusalem, which were broken down, and the gates thereof were consumed with fire.
Nehe DRC 2:14  And I passed to the gate of the fountain, and to the king's aqueduct, and there was no place for the beast on which I rode to pass.
Nehe KJV 2:14  Then I went on to the gate of the fountain, and to the king’s pool: but there was no place for the beast that was under me to pass.
Nehe DRC 2:15  And I went up in the night by the torrent, and viewed the wall, and going back I came to the gate of the valley, and returned.
Nehe KJV 2:15  Then went I up in the night by the brook, and viewed the wall, and turned back, and entered by the gate of the valley, and so returned.
Nehe DRC 2:16  But the magistrates knew not whither I went, or what I did: neither had I as yet told any thing to the Jews, or to the priests, or to the nobles, or to the magistrates, or to the rest that did the work.
Nehe KJV 2:16  And the rulers knew not whither I went, or what I did; neither had I as yet told it to the Jews, nor to the priests, nor to the nobles, nor to the rulers, nor to the rest that did the work.
Nehe DRC 2:17  Then I said to them: You know the affliction wherein we are, because Jerusalem is desolate, and the gates thereof are consumed with fire: come, and let us build up the walls of Jerusalem, and let us be no longer a reproach.
Nehe KJV 2:17  Then said I unto them, Ye see the distress that we are in, how Jerusalem lieth waste, and the gates thereof are burned with fire: come, and let us build up the wall of Jerusalem, that we be no more a reproach.
Nehe DRC 2:18  And I shewed them how the hand of my God was good with me, and the king's words, which he had spoken to me, and I said: Let us rise up, and build. And their hands were strengthened in good.
Nehe KJV 2:18  Then I told them of the hand of my God which was good upon me; as also the king’s words that he had spoken unto me. And they said, Let us rise up and build. So they strengthened their hands for this good work.
Nehe DRC 2:19  But Sanaballat the Horonite, and Tobias the servant, the Ammonite, and Gossem the Arabian heard of it, and they scoffed at us, and despised us, and said: What is this thing that you do? are you going to rebel against the king?
Nehe KJV 2:19  But when Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, and Geshem the Arabian, heard it, they laughed us to scorn, and despised us, and said, What is this thing that ye do? will ye rebel against the king?
Nehe DRC 2:20  And I answered them, and said to them: The God of heaven he helpeth us, and we are his servants: let us rise up and build: but you have no part, nor justice, nor remembrance in Jerusalem.
Nehe KJV 2:20  Then answered I them, and said unto them, The God of heaven, he will prosper us; therefore we his servants will arise and build: but ye have no portion, nor right, nor memorial, in Jerusalem.

Nehe DRC 3:20  After him in the mount Baruch the son of Zachai built another measure, from the corner to the door of the house of Eliasib the high priest.
Nehe VulgClem 3:20  Post eum in monte ædificavit Baruch filius Zachai mensuram secundam, ab angulo usque ad portam domus Eliasib sacerdotis magni.
Nehe KJV 3:20  After him Baruch the son of Zabbai earnestly repaired the other piece, from the turning of the wall unto the door of the house of Eliashib the high priest.
Nehe DRC 3:21  After him Merimuth the son of Urias the son of Haccus, built another measure, from the door of the house of Eliasib, to the end of the house of Eliasib.
Nehe VulgClem 3:21  Post eum ædificavit Merimuth filius Uriæ filii Haccus, mensuram secundam, a porta domus Eliasib, donec extenderetur domus Eliasib.
Nehe KJV 3:21  After him repaired Meremoth the son of Urijah the son of Koz another piece, from the door of the house of Eliashib even to the end of the house of Eliashib.
Nehe DRC 3:22  And after him built the priests, the men of the plains of the Jordan.
Nehe VulgClem 3:22  Et post eum ædificaverunt sacerdotes, viri de campestribus Jordanis.
Nehe KJV 3:22  And after him repaired the priests, the men of the plain.
Nehe DRC 3:23  After him built Benjamin and Hasub, over against their own house: and after him built Azarias the son of Maasias the son of Ananias over against his house.
Nehe VulgClem 3:23  Post eum ædificavit Benjamin et Hasub contra domum suam : et post eum ædificavit Azarias filius Maasiæ filii Ananiæ contra domum suam.
Nehe KJV 3:23  After him repaired Benjamin and Hashub over against their house. After him repaired Azariah the son of Maaseiah the son of Ananiah by his house.
Nehe DRC 3:24  After him built Bennui the son of Hanadad another measure, from the house of Azarias unto the bending, and unto the corner.
Nehe KJV 3:24  After him repaired Binnui the son of Henadad another piece, from the house of Azariah unto the turning of the wall, even unto the corner.
Nehe DRC 3:25  Phalel, the son of Ozi, over against the bending and the tower, which lieth out from the king's high house, that is, in the court of the prison: after him Phadaia the son of Pharos.
Nehe VulgClem 3:25  Phalel filius Ozi contra flexuram, et turrim quæ eminet de domo regis excelsa, id est, in atrio carceris : post eum Phadaia filius Pharos.
Nehe KJV 3:25  Palal the son of Uzai, over against the turning of the wall, and the tower which lieth out from the king’s high house, that was by the court of the prison. After him Pedaiah the son of Parosh.
Nehe DRC 3:26  And the Nathinites dwelt in Ophel, as far as over against the water gate toward the east, and the tower that stood out.
Nehe KJV 3:26  Moreover the Nethinims dwelt in Ophel, unto the place over against the water gate toward the east, and the tower that lieth out.
Nehe DRC 3:27  After him the Thecuites built another measure over against, from the great tower that standeth out unto the wall of the temple.
Nehe VulgClem 3:27  Post eum ædificaverunt Thecueni mensuram secundam e regione, a turre magna et eminente usque ad murum templi.
Nehe KJV 3:27  After them the Tekoites repaired another piece, over against the great tower that lieth out, even unto the wall of Ophel.
Nehe DRC 3:28  And upward from the horse gate the priests built, every man over against his house.
Nehe VulgClem 3:28  Sursum autem a porta equorum ædificaverunt sacerdotes, unusquisque contra domum suam.
Nehe KJV 3:28  From above the horse gate repaired the priests, every one over against his house.
Nehe DRC 3:29  After them built Sadoc the son of Emmer over against his house. And after him built Semaia the son of Sechenias, keeper of the east gate.
Nehe VulgClem 3:29  Post eos ædificavit Sadoc filius Emmer contra domum suam. Et post eum ædificavit Semaia filius Secheniæ, custos portæ orientalis.
Nehe KJV 3:29  After them repaired Zadok the son of Immer over against his house. After him repaired also Shemaiah the son of Shechaniah, the keeper of the east gate.
Nehe DRC 3:30  After him built Hanania the son of Selemia, and Hanun the sixth son of Seleph, another measure: after him built Mosollam the son of Barachias over against his treasury. After him Melcias the goldsmith's son built unto the house of the Nathinites, and of the sellers of small wares, over against the judgment gate, and unto the chamber of the corner.
Nehe KJV 3:30  After him repaired Hananiah the son of Shelemiah, and Hanun the sixth son of Zalaph, another piece. After him repaired Meshullam the son of Berechiah over against his chamber.
Nehe DRC 3:31  And within the chamber of the corner of the flock gate, the goldsmiths and the merchants built.
Nehe KJV 3:31  After him repaired Malchiah the goldsmith’s son unto the place of the Nethinims, and of the merchants, over against the gate Miphkad, and to the going up of the corner.
Nehe DRC 3:32
Nehe VulgClem 3:32
Nehe KJV 3:32  And between the going up of the corner unto the sheep gate repaired the goldsmiths and the merchants.
Chapter 4
Nehe DRC 4:1  And it came to pass, that when Sanaballat heard that we were building the wall he was angry: and being moved exceedingly he scoffed at the Jews.
Nehe KJV 4:1  But it came to pass, that when Sanballat heard that we builded the wall, he was wroth, and took great indignation, and mocked the Jews.
Nehe DRC 4:2  And said before his brethren, and the multitude of the Samaritans: What are the silly Jews doing? Will the Gentiles let them alone? will they sacrifice and make an end in a day? are they able to raise stones out of the heaps of the rubbish, which are burnt?
Nehe KJV 4:2  And he spake before his brethren and the army of Samaria, and said, What do these feeble Jews? will they fortify themselves? will they sacrifice? will they make an end in a day? will they revive the stones out of the heaps of the rubbish which are burned?
Nehe DRC 4:3  Tobias also the Ammonite who was by him said: Let them build: if a fox go up, he will leap over their stone wall.
Nehe VulgClem 4:3  Sed et Tobias Ammanites, proximus ejus, ait : Ædificent : si ascenderit vulpes, transiliet murum eorum lapideum.
Nehe KJV 4:3  Now Tobiah the Ammonite was by him, and he said, Even that which they build, if a fox go up, he shall even break down their stone wall.
Nehe DRC 4:4  Hear thou our God, for we are despised: turn their reproach upon their own head, and give them to be despised in a land of captivity.
Nehe VulgClem 4:4  Audi, Deus noster, quia facti sumus despectui : converte opprobrium super caput eorum, et da eos in despectionem in terra captivitatis.
Nehe KJV 4:4  Hear, O our God; for we are despised: and turn their reproach upon their own head, and give them for a prey in the land of captivity:
Nehe DRC 4:5  Cover not their iniquity, and let not their sin be blotted out from before thy face, because they have mocked thy builders.
Nehe VulgClem 4:5  Ne operias iniquitatem eorum, et peccatum eorum coram facie tua non deleatur, quia irriserunt ædificantes.
Nehe KJV 4:5  And cover not their iniquity, and let not their sin be blotted out from before thee: for they have provoked thee to anger before the builders.
Nehe DRC 4:6  So we built the wall, and joined it all together unto the half thereof: and the heart of the people was excited to work.
Nehe KJV 4:6  So built we the wall; and all the wall was joined together unto the half thereof: for the people had a mind to work.
Nehe DRC 4:7  And it came to pass, when Sanaballat, and Tobias, and the Arabians, and the Ammonites, and the Azotians heard that the walls of Jerusalem were made up, and the breaches began to be closed, that they were exceedingly angry.
Nehe KJV 4:7  But it came to pass, that when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and the Arabians, and the Ammonites, and the Ashdodites, heard that the walls of Jerusalem were made up, and that the breaches began to be stopped, then they were very wroth,
Nehe DRC 4:8  And they all assembled themselves together, to come, and to fight against Jerusalem, and to prepare ambushes.
Nehe KJV 4:8  And conspired all of them together to come and to fight against Jerusalem, and to hinder it.
Nehe DRC 4:9  And we prayed to our God, and set watchmen upon the wall day and night against them.
Nehe VulgClem 4:9  Et oravimus Deum nostrum, et posuimus custodes super murum die ac nocte contra eos.
Nehe KJV 4:9  Nevertheless we made our prayer unto our God, and set a watch against them day and night, because of them.
Nehe DRC 4:10  And Juda said: The strength of the bearer of burdens is decayed, and the rubbish is very much, and we shall not be able to build the wall.
Nehe KJV 4:10  And Judah said, The strength of the bearers of burdens is decayed, and there is much rubbish; so that we are not able to build the wall.
Nehe DRC 4:11  And our enemies said: Let them not know, nor understand, till we come in the midst of them, and kill them, and cause the work to cease.
Nehe VulgClem 4:11  Et dixerunt hostes nostri : Nesciant, et ignorent donec veniamus in medium eorum, et interficiamus eos, et cessare faciamus opus.
Nehe KJV 4:11  And our adversaries said, They shall not know, neither see, till we come in the midst among them, and slay them, and cause the work to cease.
Nehe DRC 4:12  And it came to pass, that when the Jews that dwelt by them came and told us ten times, out of all the places from whence they came to us,
Nehe KJV 4:12  And it came to pass, that when the Jews which dwelt by them came, they said unto us ten times, From all places whence ye shall return unto us they will be upon you.
Nehe DRC 4:13  I set the people in the place behind the wall round about in order, with their swords, and spears, and bows.
Nehe KJV 4:13  Therefore set I in the lower places behind the wall, and on the higher places, I even set the people after their families with their swords, their spears, and their bows.
Nehe DRC 4:14  And I looked and rose up: and I said to the chief men and the magistrates, and to the rest of the common people: be not afraid of them. Remember the Lord who is great and terrible, and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, and your wives, and your houses.
Nehe KJV 4:14  And I looked, and rose up, and said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, Be not ye afraid of them: remember the Lord, which is great and terrible, and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses.
Nehe DRC 4:15  And it came to pass, when our enemies heard that the thing had been told us, that God defeated their counsel. And we returned all of us to the walls, every man to his work.
Nehe KJV 4:15  And it came to pass, when our enemies heard that it was known unto us, and God had brought their counsel to nought, that we returned all of us to the wall, every one unto his work.
Nehe DRC 4:16  And it came to pass from that day forward, that half of their young men did the work, and half were ready for to fight, with spears, and shields, and bows, and coats of mail, and the rulers were behind them in all the house of Juda.
Nehe KJV 4:16  And it came to pass from that time forth, that the half of my servants wrought in the work, and the other half of them held both the spears, the shields, and the bows, and the habergeons; and the rulers were behind all the house of Judah.
Nehe DRC 4:17  Of them that built on the wall and that carried burdens, and that laded: with one of his hands he did the work, and with the other he held a sword.
Nehe VulgClem 4:17  Ædificantium in muro, et portantium onera, et imponentium : una manu sua faciebat opus, et altera tenebat gladium :
Nehe KJV 4:17  They which builded on the wall, and they that bare burdens, with those that laded, every one with one of his hands wrought in the work, and with the other hand held a weapon.
Nehe DRC 4:18  For every one of the builders was girded with a sword about his reins. And they built, and sounded with a trumpet by me.
Nehe VulgClem 4:18  ædificentium enim unusquisque gladio erat accinctus renes. Et ædificabant, et clangebant buccina juxta me.
Nehe KJV 4:18  For the builders, every one had his sword girded by his side, and so builded. And he that sounded the trumpet was by me.
Nehe DRC 4:19  And I said to the nobles, and to the magistrates, and to the rest of the common people: The work is great and wide, and we are separated on the wall one far from another:
Nehe VulgClem 4:19  Et dixi ad optimates, et ad magistratus, et ad reliquam partem vulgi : Opus grande est et latum, et nos separati sumus in muro procul alter ab altero :
Nehe KJV 4:19  And I said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, The work is great and large, and we are separated upon the wall, one far from another.
Nehe DRC 4:20  In what place soever you shall hear the sound of the trumpet, run all thither unto us: our God will fight for us.
Nehe VulgClem 4:20  in loco quocumque audieritis clangorem tubæ, illuc concurrite ad nos : Deus noster pugnabit pro nobis.
Nehe KJV 4:20  In what place therefore ye hear the sound of the trumpet, resort ye thither unto us: our God shall fight for us.
Nehe DRC 4:21  And let us do the work: and let one half of us hold our spears from the rising of the morning, till the stars appear.
Nehe VulgClem 4:21  Et nos ipsi faciamus opus, et media pars nostrum teneat lanceas ab ascensu auroræ donec egrediantur astra.
Nehe KJV 4:21  So we laboured in the work: and half of them held the spears from the rising of the morning till the stars appeared.
Nehe DRC 4:22  At that time also I said to the people: Let every one with his servant stay in the midst of Jerusalem, and let us take our turns in the night, and by day, to work.
Nehe KJV 4:22  Likewise at the same time said I unto the people, Let every one with his servant lodge within Jerusalem, that in the night they may be a guard to us, and labour on the day.
Nehe DRC 4:23  Now I and my brethren, and my servants, and the watchmen that followed me, did not put off our clothes: only every man stripped himself when he was to be washed.
Nehe KJV 4:23  So neither I, nor my brethren, nor my servants, nor the men of the guard which followed me, none of us put off our clothes, saving that every one put them off for washing.
Chapter 5
Nehe DRC 5:1  Now there was a great cry of the people, and of their wives against their brethren the Jews.
Nehe VulgClem 5:1  Et factus est clamor populi et uxorum ejus magnus adversus fratres suos Judæos.
Nehe KJV 5:1  And there was a great cry of the people and of their wives against their brethren the Jews.
Nehe DRC 5:2  And there were some that said: Our sons and our daughters are very many: let us take up corn for the price of them, and let us eat and live.
Nehe KJV 5:2  For there were that said, We, our sons, and our daughters, are many: therefore we take up corn for them, that we may eat, and live.
Nehe DRC 5:3  And there were some that said: Let us mortgage our lands, and our vineyards, and our houses, and let us take corn because of the famine.
Nehe KJV 5:3  Some also there were that said, We have mortgaged our lands, vineyards, and houses, that we might buy corn, because of the dearth.
Nehe DRC 5:4  And others said: Let us borrow money for the king's tribute, and let us give up our fields and vineyards:
Nehe VulgClem 5:4  Et alii dicebant : Mutuo sumamus pecunias in tributa regis, demusque agros nostros et vineas :
Nehe KJV 5:4  There were also that said, We have borrowed money for the king’s tribute, and that upon our lands and vineyards.
Nehe DRC 5:5  And now our flesh is as the flesh of our brethren: and our children as their children. Behold we bring into bondage our sons and our daughters, and some of our daughters are bondwomen already, neither have we wherewith to redeem them, and our fields and our vineyards other men possess.
Nehe KJV 5:5  Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brethren, our children as their children: and, lo, we bring into bondage our sons and our daughters to be servants, and some of our daughters are brought unto bondage already: neither is it in our power to redeem them; for other men have our lands and vineyards.
Nehe DRC 5:6  And I was exceedingly angry when I heard their cry according to these words.
Nehe VulgClem 5:6  Et iratus sum nimis cum audissem clamorem eorum secundum verba hæc :
Nehe KJV 5:6  And I was very angry when I heard their cry and these words.
Nehe DRC 5:7  And my heart thought with myself: and I rebuked the nobles and magistrates, and said to them: Do you every one exact usury of your brethren? And I gathered together a great assembly against them,
Nehe VulgClem 5:7  cogitavitque cor meum mecum, et increpavi optimates et magistratus, et dixi eis : Usurasne singuli a fratribus vestris exigitis ? Et congregavi adversum eos concionem magnam,
Nehe KJV 5:7  Then I consulted with myself, and I rebuked the nobles, and the rulers, and said unto them, Ye exact usury, every one of his brother. And I set a great assembly against them.
Nehe DRC 5:8  And I said to them: We, as you know, have redeemed according to our ability our brethren the Jews, that were sold to the Gentiles: and will you then sell your brethren, for us to redeem them? And they held their peace, and found not what to answer.
Nehe KJV 5:8  And I said unto them, We after our ability have redeemed our brethren the Jews, which were sold unto the heathen; and will ye even sell your brethren? or shall they be sold unto us? Then held they their peace, and found nothing to answer.
Nehe DRC 5:9  And I said to them: The thing you do is not good: why walk you not in the fear of our God, that we be not exposed to the reproaches of the Gentiles our enemies?
Nehe KJV 5:9  Also I said, It is not good that ye do: ought ye not to walk in the fear of our God because of the reproach of the heathen our enemies?
Nehe DRC 5:10  Both I and my brethren, and my servants, have lent money and corn to many: let us all agree not to call for it again; let us forgive the debt that is owing to us.
Nehe KJV 5:10  I likewise, and my brethren, and my servants, might exact of them money and corn: I pray you, let us leave off this usury.
Nehe DRC 5:11  Restore ye to them this day their fields, and their vineyards, and their oliveyards, and their houses: and the hundredth part of the money, and of the corn, the wine, and the oil, which you were wont to exact of them, give it rather for them.
Nehe KJV 5:11  Restore, I pray you, to them, even this day, their lands, their vineyards, their oliveyards, and their houses, also the hundredth part of the money, and of the corn, the wine, and the oil, that ye exact of them.
Nehe DRC 5:12  And they said: We will restore, and we will require nothing of them: and we will do as thou sayest. And I called the priests and took an oath of them, to do according to what I had said.
Nehe KJV 5:12  Then said they, We will restore them, and will require nothing of them; so will we do as thou sayest. Then I called the priests, and took an oath of them, that they should do according to this promise.
Nehe DRC 5:13  Moreover I shook my lap, and said: So may God shake every man that shall not accomplish this word, out of his house, and out of his labours, thus may he be shaken out, and become empty. And all the multitude said: Amen. And they praised God. And the people did according to what was said.
Fecit ergo populus sicut erat dictum.
Nehe KJV 5:13  Also I shook my lap, and said, So God shake out every man from his house, and from his labour, that performeth not this promise, even thus be he shaken out, and emptied. And all the congregation said, Amen, and praised the Lord. And the people did according to this promise.
Nehe DRC 5:14  And from the day, in which the king commanded me to be governor in the land of Juda, from the twentieth year even to the two and thirtieth year of Artaxerxes the king, for twelve years, I and my brethren did not eat the yearly allowance that was due to the governors.
Nehe KJV 5:14  Moreover from the time that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year even unto the two and thirtieth year of Artaxerxes the king, that is, twelve years, I and my brethren have not eaten the bread of the governor.
Nehe DRC 5:15  But the former governors that had been before me, were chargeable to the people, and took of them in bread, and wine, and in money every day forty sicles: and their officers also oppressed the people. But I did not so for the fear of God.
Nehe KJV 5:15  But the former governors that had been before me were chargeable unto the people, and had taken of them bread and wine, beside forty shekels of silver; yea, even their servants bare rule over the people: but so did not I, because of the fear of God.
Nehe DRC 5:16  Moreover I built in the work of the wall, and I bought no land, and all my servants were gathered together to the work.
Nehe KJV 5:16  Yea, also I continued in the work of this wall, neither bought we any land: and all my servants were gathered thither unto the work.
Nehe DRC 5:17  The Jews also and the magistrates to the number of one hundred and fifty men, were at my table, besides them that came to us from among the nations that were round about us.
Nehe KJV 5:17  Moreover there were at my table an hundred and fifty of the Jews and rulers, beside those that came unto us from among the heathen that are about us.
Nehe DRC 5:18  And there was prepared for me day be day one ox, and six choice rams, besides fowls, and once in ten days I gave store of divers wines, and many other things: yet I did not require my yearly allowance as governor: for the people were very much impoverished.
Nehe KJV 5:18  Now that which was prepared for me daily was one ox and six choice sheep; also fowls were prepared for me, and once in ten days store of all sorts of wine: yet for all this required not I the bread of the governor, because the bondage was heavy upon this people.
Nehe DRC 5:19  Remember me, O my God, for good according to all that I have done for this people.
Nehe VulgClem 5:19  Memento mei, Deus meus, in bonum, secundum omnia quæ feci populo huic.
Nehe KJV 5:19  Think upon me, my God, for good, according to all that I have done for this people.
Chapter 6
Nehe DRC 6:1  And it came to pass, when Sanaballat, and Tobias, and Gossem the Arabian, and the rest of our enemies, heard that I had built the wall, and that there was no breach left in it, (though at that time I had not set up the doors in the gates,)
Nehe KJV 6:1  Now it came to pass, when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and Geshem the Arabian, and the rest of our enemies, heard that I had builded the wall, and that there was no breach left therein; (though at that time I had not set up the doors upon the gates;)
Nehe DRC 6:2  Sanaballat and Gossem sent to me, saying: Come, and let us make a league together in the villages, in the plain of Ono. But they thought to do me mischief.
Nehe KJV 6:2  That Sanballat and Geshem sent unto me, saying, Come, let us meet together in some one of the villages in the plain of Ono. But they thought to do me mischief.
Nehe DRC 6:3  And I sent messengers to them, saying: I am doing a great work, and I cannot come down, lest it be neglected whilst I come, and go down to you.
Nehe KJV 6:3  And I sent messengers unto them, saying, I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down: why should the work cease, whilst I leave it, and come down to you?
Nehe DRC 6:4  And they sent to me according to this word, four times: and I answered them after the same manner.
Nehe KJV 6:4  Yet they sent unto me four times after this sort; and I answered them after the same manner.
Nehe DRC 6:5  And Sanaballat sent his servant to me the fifth time according to the former word, and he had a letter in his hand written in this manner:
Nehe VulgClem 6:5  Et misit ad me Sanaballat juxta verbum prius quinta vice puerum suum, et epistolam habebat in manu sua scriptam hoc modo :
Nehe KJV 6:5  Then sent Sanballat his servant unto me in like manner the fifth time with an open letter in his hand;
Nehe DRC 6:6  It is reported amongst the Gentiles, and Gossem hath said it, that thou and the Jews think to rebel, and therefore thou buildest the wall, and hast a mind to set thyself king over them: for which end
Nehe KJV 6:6  Wherein was written, It is reported among the heathen, and Gashmu saith it, that thou and the Jews think to rebel: for which cause thou buildest the wall, that thou mayest be their king, according to these words.
Nehe DRC 6:7  Thou hast also set up prophets, to preach of thee at Jerusalem, saying: There is a king in Judea. The king will hear of these things: therefore come now, that we may take counsel together.
Nehe KJV 6:7  And thou hast also appointed prophets to preach of thee at Jerusalem, saying, There is a king in Judah: and now shall it be reported to the king according to these words. Come now therefore, and let us take counsel together.
Nehe DRC 6:8  And I sent to them, saying: There is no such thing done as thou sayest: but thou feignest these things out of thy own heart.
Nehe KJV 6:8  Then I sent unto him, saying, There are no such things done as thou sayest, but thou feignest them out of thine own heart.
Nehe DRC 6:9  For all these men thought to frighten us, thinking that our hands would cease from the work, and that we would leave off. Wherefore I strengthened my hands the more:
Nehe VulgClem 6:9  Omnes enim hi terrebant nos, cogitantes quod cessarent manus nostræ ab opere, et quiesceremus : quam ob causam magis confortavi manus meas.
Nehe KJV 6:9  For they all made us afraid, saying, Their hands shall be weakened from the work, that it be not done. Now therefore, O God, strengthen my hands.
Nehe DRC 6:10  And I went into the house of Samaia the son of Delaia, the son of Metabeel privately. And he said: Let us consult together in the house of God in the midst of the temple: and let us shut the doors of the temple, for they will come to kill thee, and in the night they will come to slay thee.
Nehe KJV 6:10  Afterward I came unto the house of Shemaiah the son of Delaiah the son of Mehetabeel, who was shut up; and he said, Let us meet together in the house of God, within the temple, and let us shut the doors of the temple: for they will come to slay thee; yea, in the night will they come to slay thee.
Nehe DRC 6:11  And I said: Should such a man as I flee? and who is there that being as I am, would go into the temple, to save his life? I will not go in.
Nehe KJV 6:11  And I said, Should such a man as I flee? and who is there, that, being as I am, would go into the temple to save his life? I will not go in.
Nehe DRC 6:12  And I understood that God had not sent him, but that he had spoken to me as if he had been prophesying, and Tobias, and Sanaballat had hired him.
Nehe KJV 6:12  And, lo, I perceived that God had not sent him; but that he pronounced this prophecy against me: for Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him.
Nehe DRC 6:13  For he had taken money, that I being afraid should do this thing, and sin, and they might have some evil to upbraid me withal.
Nehe KJV 6:13  Therefore was he hired, that I should be afraid, and do so, and sin, and that they might have matter for an evil report, that they might reproach me.
Nehe DRC 6:14  Remember me, O Lord, for Tobias and Sanaballat, according to their works of this kind: and Noadias the prophet, and the rest of the prophets that would have put me in fear.
Nehe KJV 6:14  My God, think thou upon Tobiah and Sanballat according to these their works, and on the prophetess Noadiah, and the rest of the prophets, that would have put me in fear.
Nehe DRC 6:15  But the wall was finished the five and twentieth day of the month of Elul, in two and fifty days.
Nehe VulgClem 6:15  Completus est autem murus vigesimo quinto die mensis Elul, quinquaginta duobus diebus.
Nehe KJV 6:15  So the wall was finished in the twenty and fifth day of the month Elul, in fifty and two days.
Nehe DRC 6:16  And it came to pass when all our enemies heard of it, that all nations which were round about us, were afraid, and were cast down within themselves, for they perceived that this work was the work of God.
Nehe KJV 6:16  And it came to pass, that when all our enemies heard thereof, and all the heathen that were about us saw these things, they were much cast down in their own eyes: for they perceived that this work was wrought of our God.
Nehe DRC 6:17  Moreover in those days many letters were sent by the principal men of the Jews to Tobias, and from Tobias there came letters to them.
Nehe KJV 6:17  Moreover in those days the nobles of Judah sent many letters unto Tobiah, and the letters of Tobiah came unto them.
Nehe DRC 6:18  For there were many in Judea sworn to him, because he was the son in law of Sechenias the son of Area, and Johanan his son had taken to wife the daughter of Mosollam the son of Barachias.
Nehe VulgClem 6:18  Multi enim erant in Judæa habentes juramentum ejus, quia gener erat Secheniæ filii Area, et Johanan filius ejus acceperat filiam Mosollam filii Barachiæ :
Nehe KJV 6:18  For there were many in Judah sworn unto him, because he was the son in law of Shechaniah the son of Arah; and his son Johanan had taken the daughter of Meshullam the son of Berechiah.
Nehe DRC 6:19  And they praised him also before me, and they related my words to him: And Tobias sent letters to put me in fear.
Nehe VulgClem 6:19  sed et laudabant eum coram me, et verba mea nuntiabant ei : et Tobias mittebat epistolas ut terreret me.
Nehe KJV 6:19  Also they reported his good deeds before me, and uttered my words to him. And Tobiah sent letters to put me in fear.
Chapter 7
Nehe DRC 7:1  Now after the wall was built, and I had set up the doors, and numbered the porters and singing men, and Levites:
Nehe VulgClem 7:1  Postquam autem ædificatus est murus, et posui valvas, et recensui janitores, et cantores, et Levitas,
Nehe KJV 7:1  Now it came to pass, when the wall was built, and I had set up the doors, and the porters and the singers and the Levites were appointed,
Nehe DRC 7:2  I commanded Hanani my brother, and Hananias ruler of the house of Jerusalem, (for he seemed as a sincere man, and one that feared God above the rest,)
Nehe KJV 7:2  That I gave my brother Hanani, and Hananiah the ruler of the palace, charge over Jerusalem: for he was a faithful man, and feared God above many.
Nehe DRC 7:3  And I said to them: Let not the gates of Jerusalem be opened till the sun be hot. And while they were yet standing by the gates were shut, and barred: and I set watchmen of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, every one by their courses, and every man over against his house.
Nehe KJV 7:3  And I said unto them, Let not the gates of Jerusalem be opened until the sun be hot; and while they stand by, let them shut the doors, and bar them: and appoint watches of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, every one in his watch, and every one to be over against his house.
Nehe DRC 7:4  And the city was very wide and great, and the people few in the midst thereof, and the houses were not built.
Nehe KJV 7:4  Now the city was large and great: but the people were few therein, and the houses were not builded.
Nehe DRC 7:5  But God had put in my heart, and I assembled the princes and magistrates, and common people, to number them: and I found a book of the number of them who came up at first and therein it was found written:
Nehe VulgClem 7:5  Deus autem dedit in corde meo, et congregavi optimates, et magistratus, et vulgus, ut recenserem eos : et inveni librum census eorum qui ascenderant primum, et inventum est scriptum in eo.
Nehe KJV 7:5  And my God put into mine heart to gather together the nobles, and the rulers, and the people, that they might be reckoned by genealogy. And I found a register of the genealogy of them which came up at the first, and found written therein,
Nehe DRC 7:6  These are the children of the province, who came up from the captivity of them that had been carried away, whom Nabuchodonosor the king of Babylon had carried away, and who returned into Judea, every one into his own city.

Nehe KJV 7:60  All the Nethinims, and the children of Solomon’s servants, were three hundred ninety and two.
Nehe DRC 7:61  And these are they that came up from Telmela, Thelharsa, Cherub, Addon, and Emmer: and could not shew the house of their fathers, nor their seed, whether they were of Israel.

Nehe KJV 7:64  These sought their register among those that were reckoned by genealogy, but it was not found: therefore were they, as polluted, put from the priesthood.
Nehe DRC 7:65  And Athersatha said to them, that they should not eat of the holies of holies, until there stood up a priest learned and skilful.

Nehe KJV 7:65  And the Tirshatha said unto them, that they should not eat of the most holy things, till there stood up a priest with Urim and Thummim.
Nehe DRC 7:66  All the multitude as it were one man, forty-two thousand three hundred sixty,
Nehe VulgClem 7:66  Omnis multitudo quasi vir unus quadraginta duo millia trecenti sexaginta,

Nehe VulgClem 7:69  cameli eorum, quadringenti triginta quinque : asini, sex millia septingenti viginti.
Nehe KJV 7:69  Their camels, four hundred thirty and five: six thousand seven hundred and twenty asses.
Nehe DRC 7:70  And some of the heads of the families gave unto the work. Athersatha gave into the treasure a thousand drams of gold, fifty bowls, and five hundred and thirty garments for priests.
Athersatha dedit in thesaurum auri drachmas mille, phialas quinquaginta, tunicas sacerdotales quingentas triginta.
Nehe KJV 7:70  And some of the chief of the fathers gave unto the work. The Tirshatha gave to the treasure a thousand drams of gold, fifty basons, five hundred and thirty priests’ garments.
Nehe DRC 7:71  And some of the heads of families gave to the treasure of the work, twenty thousand drams of gold, and two thousand two hundred pounds of silver.
Nehe VulgClem 7:71  Et de principibus familiarum dederunt in thesaurum operis, auri drachmas viginti millia, et argenti mnas duo millia ducentas.
Nehe KJV 7:71  And some of the chief of the fathers gave to the treasure of the work twenty thousand drams of gold, and two thousand and two hundred pound of silver.
Nehe DRC 7:72  And that which the rest of the people gave, was twenty thousand drams of gold, and two thousand pounds of silver, and sixty-seven garments for priests.
Nehe VulgClem 7:72  Et quod dedit reliquus populus, auri drachmas viginti millia, et argenti mnas duo millia, et tunicas sacerdotales sexaginta septem.
Nehe KJV 7:72  And that which the rest of the people gave was twenty thousand drams of gold, and two thousand pound of silver, and threescore and seven priests’ garments.
Nehe DRC 7:73  And the priests, and the Levites, and the porters, and the singing men, and the rest of the common people, and the Nathinites, and all Israel dwelt in their cities.
Nehe KJV 7:73  So the priests, and the Levites, and the porters, and the singers, and some of the people, and the Nethinims, and all Israel, dwelt in their cities; and when the seventh month came, the children of Israel were in their cities.
Chapter 8
Nehe DRC 8:1  And the seventh month came: and the children of Israel were in their cities. And all the people were gathered together as one man to the street which is before the water gate, and they spoke to Esdras the scribe, to bring the book of the law of Moses, which the Lord had commanded to Israel.
Nehe KJV 8:1  And all the people gathered themselves together as one man into the street that was before the water gate; and they spake unto Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, which the Lord had commanded to Israel.
Nehe DRC 8:2  Then Esdras the priest brought the law before the multitude of men and women, and all those that could understand, in the first day of the seventh month.
Nehe VulgClem 8:2  Attulit ergo Esdras sacerdos legem coram multitudine virorum et mulierum, cunctisque qui poterant intelligere, in die prima mensis septimi.
Nehe KJV 8:2  And Ezra the priest brought the law before the congregation both of men and women, and all that could hear with understanding, upon the first day of the seventh month.
Nehe DRC 8:3  And he read it plainly in the street that was before the water gate, from the morning until midday, before the men, and the women, and all those that could understand: and the ears of all the people were attentive to the book.
Nehe KJV 8:3  And he read therein before the street that was before the water gate from the morning until midday, before the men and the women, and those that could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive unto the book of the law.
Nehe DRC 8:4  And Esdras the scribe stood upon a step of wood, which he had made to speak upon, and there stood by him Mathathias, and Semeia, and Ania, and Uria, and Helcia, and Maasia, on his right hand: and on the left, Phadaia, Misael, and Melchia, and Hasum, and Hasbadana, Zacharia and Mosollam.
Nehe KJV 8:4  And Ezra the scribe stood upon a pulpit of wood, which they had made for the purpose; and beside him stood Mattithiah, and Shema, and Anaiah, and Urijah, and Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, on his right hand; and on his left hand, Pedaiah, and Mishael, and Malchiah, and Hashum, and Hashbadana, Zechariah, and Meshullam.
Nehe DRC 8:5  And Esdras opened the book before all the people: for he was above all the people: and when he had opened it, all the people stood.
Nehe VulgClem 8:5  Et aperuit Esdras librum coram omni populo : super universum quippe populum eminebat : et cum aperuisset eum, stetit omnis populus.
Nehe KJV 8:5  And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people; (for he was above all the people;) and when he opened it, all the people stood up:
Nehe DRC 8:6  And Esdras blessed the Lord the great God: and all the people answered, Amen, amen: lifting up their hands: and they bowed down, and adored God with their faces to the ground.
Nehe KJV 8:6  And Ezra blessed the Lord, the great God. And all the people answered, Amen, Amen, with lifting up their hands: and they bowed their heads, and worshipped the Lord with their faces to the ground.
Nehe DRC 8:7  Now Josue, and Bani, and Serebia, Jamin, Accub, Sephtai, Odia, Maasia, Celtia, Azarias, Jozabed, Hanan, Phalaia, the Levites, made silence among the people to hear the law: and the people stood in their place.
Nehe VulgClem 8:7  Porro Josue, et Bani, et Serebia, Jamin, Accub, Septhai, Odia, Maasia, Celita, Azarias, Jozabed, Hanan, Phalaia, Levitæ, silentium faciebant in populo ad audiendam legem : populus autem stabat in gradu suo.
Nehe KJV 8:7  Also Jeshua, and Bani, and Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodijah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, caused the people to understand the law: and the people stood in their place.
Nehe DRC 8:8  And they read in the book of the law of God distinctly and plainly to be understood: and they understood when it was read.
Nehe KJV 8:8  So they read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading.
Nehe DRC 8:9  And Nehemiah (he is Athersatha) and Esdras the priest and scribe, and the Levites who interpreted to all the people, said: This is a holy day to the Lord our God: do not mourn, nor weep: for all the people wept, when they heard the words of the law.
Nehe KJV 8:9  And Nehemiah, which is the Tirshatha, and Ezra the priest the scribe, and the Levites that taught the people, said unto all the people, This day is holy unto the Lord your God; mourn not, nor weep. For all the people wept, when they heard the words of the law.
Nehe DRC 8:10  And he said to them: Go, eat fat meats, and drink sweet wine, and send portions to them that have not prepared for themselves: because it is the holy day of the Lord, and be not sad: for the joy of the Lord is our strength.
Nehe KJV 8:10  Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the Lord is your strength.
Nehe DRC 8:11  And the Levites stilled all the people, saying: Hold your peace, for the day is holy, and be not sorrowful.
Nehe KJV 8:11  So the Levites stilled all the people, saying, Hold your peace, for the day is holy; neither be ye grieved.
Nehe DRC 8:12  So all the people went to eat and drink, and to send portions, and to make great mirth: because they understood the words that he had taught them.
Nehe KJV 8:12  And all the people went their way to eat, and to drink, and to send portions, and to make great mirth, because they had understood the words that were declared unto them.
Nehe DRC 8:13  And on the second day the chiefs of the families of all the people, the priests, and the Levites were gathered together to Esdras the scribe, that he should interpret to them the words of the law.
Nehe KJV 8:13  And on the second day were gathered together the chief of the fathers of all the people, the priests, and the Levites, unto Ezra the scribe, even to understand the words of the law.
Nehe DRC 8:14  And they found written in the law, that the Lord had commanded by the hand of Moses, that the children of Israel should dwell in tabernacles, on the feast, in the seventh month:
Nehe VulgClem 8:14  Et invenerunt scriptum in lege præcepisse Dominum in manu Moysi ut habitent filii Israël in tabernaculis in die solemni, mense septimo :
Nehe KJV 8:14  And they found written in the law which the Lord had commanded by Moses, that the children of Israel should dwell in booths in the feast of the seventh month:
Nehe DRC 8:15  And that they should proclaim and publish the word in all their cities, and in Jerusalem, saying: Go forth to the mount, and fetch branches of olive, and branches of beautiful wood, branches of myrtle, and branches of palm, and branches of thick trees, to make tabernacles, as it is written.
Nehe KJV 8:15  And that they should publish and proclaim in all their cities, and in Jerusalem, saying, Go forth unto the mount, and fetch olive branches, and pine branches, and myrtle branches, and palm branches, and branches of thick trees, to make booths, as it is written.
Nehe DRC 8:16  And the people went forth, and brought. And they made themselves tabernacles every man on the top of his house, and in their courts, and in the courts of the house of God, and in the street of the water gate, and in the street of the gate of Ephraim.
Feceruntque sibi tabernacula unusquisque in domate suo : et in atriis suis, et in atriis domus Dei, et in platea portæ aquarum, et in platea portæ Ephraim.
Nehe KJV 8:16  So the people went forth, and brought them, and made themselves booths, every one upon the roof of his house, and in their courts, and in the courts of the house of God, and in the street of the water gate, and in the street of the gate of Ephraim.
Nehe DRC 8:17  And all the assembly of them that were returned from the captivity, made tabernacles, and dwelt in tabernacles: for since the days of Josue the son of Nun the children of Israel had not done so, until that day: and there was exceeding great joy.
Nehe KJV 8:17  And all the congregation of them that were come again out of the captivity made booths, and sat under the booths: for since the days of Jeshua the son of Nun unto that day had not the children of Israel done so. And there was very great gladness.
Nehe DRC 8:18  And he read in the book of the law of God day by day, from the first day till the last, and they kept the solemnity seven days, and in the eighth day a solemn assembly according to the manner.
Nehe KJV 8:18  Also day by day, from the first day unto the last day, he read in the book of the law of God. And they kept the feast seven days; and on the eighth day was a solemn assembly, according unto the manner.
Chapter 9
Nehe DRC 9:1  And in the four and twentieth day of the month the children of Israel came together with fasting and with sackcloth, and earth upon them.
Nehe VulgClem 9:1  In die autem vigesimo quarto mensis hujus, convenerunt filii Israël in jejunio et in saccis, et humus super eos.
Nehe KJV 9:1  Now in the twenty and fourth day of this month the children of Israel were assembled with fasting, and with sackclothes, and earth upon them.
Nehe DRC 9:2  And the seed of the children of Israel separated themselves from every stranger: and they stood, and confessed their sins, and the iniquities of their fathers.
Nehe KJV 9:2  And the seed of Israel separated themselves from all strangers, and stood and confessed their sins, and the iniquities of their fathers.
Nehe DRC 9:3  And they rose up to stand: and they read in the book of the law of the Lord their God, four times in the day, and four times they confessed, and adored the Lord their God.
Nehe KJV 9:3  And they stood up in their place, and read in the book of the law of the Lord their God one fourth part of the day; and another fourth part they confessed, and worshipped the Lord their God.
Nehe DRC 9:4  And there stood up upon the step of the Levites, Josue, and Bani, and Cedmihel, Sabania, Bonni, Sarebias, Bani, and Chanani: and they cried with a loud voice to the Lord their God.
Nehe KJV 9:4  Then stood up upon the stairs, of the Levites, Jeshua, and Bani, Kadmiel, Shebaniah, Bunni, Sherebiah, Bani, and Chenani, and cried with a loud voice unto the Lord their God.
Nehe DRC 9:5  And the Levites Josue and Cedmihel, Bonni, Hasebnia, Serebia, Oduia, Sebnia, and Phathahia, said: Arise, bless the Lord your God from eternity to eternity: and blessed be the high name of thy glory with all blessing and praise.
Nehe VulgClem 9:5  Et dixerunt Levitæ Josue, et Cedmihel, Bonni, Hasebnia, Serebia, Odaia, Sebnia, Phathathia : Surgite, benedicite Domino Deo vestro ab æterno usque in æternum : et benedicant nomini gloriæ tuæ excelso in omni benedictione et laude.
Nehe KJV 9:5  Then the Levites, Jeshua, and Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabniah, Sherebiah, Hodijah, Shebaniah, and Pethahiah, said, Stand up and bless the Lord your God for ever and ever: and blessed be thy glorious name, which is exalted above all blessing and praise.
Nehe DRC 9:6  Thou thyself, O Lord alone, thou hast made heaven, and the heaven of heavens, and all the host thereof: the earth and all things that are in it: the seas and all that are therein: and thou givest life to all these things, and the host of heaven adoreth thee.
Nehe KJV 9:6  Thou, even thou, art Lord alone; thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things that are therein, the seas, and all that is therein, and thou preservest them all; and the host of heaven worshippeth thee.
Nehe DRC 9:7  Thou O Lord God, art he who chosest Abram, and broughtest him forth out of the fire of the Chaldeans, and gavest him the name of Abraham.
Nehe KJV 9:7  Thou art the Lord the God, who didst choose Abram, and broughtest him forth out of Ur of the Chaldees, and gavest him the name of Abraham;
Nehe DRC 9:8  And thou didst find his heart faithful before thee: and thou madest a covenant with him, to give him the land of the Chanaanite, of the Hethite, and of the Amorrhite, and of the Pherezite, and of the Jebusite, and of the Gergezite, to give it to his seed: and thou hast fulfilled thy words, because thou art just.
Nehe KJV 9:8  And foundest his heart faithful before thee, and madest a covenant with him to give the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Jebusites, and the Girgashites, to give it, I say, to his seed, and hast performed thy words; for thou art righteous:
Nehe DRC 9:9  And thou sawest the affliction of our fathers in Egypt: and thou didst hear their cry by the Red Sea.
Nehe VulgClem 9:9  Et vidisti afflictionem patrum nostrorum in Ægypto, clamoremque eorum audisti super mare Rubrum.
Nehe KJV 9:9  And didst see the affliction of our fathers in Egypt, and heardest their cry by the Red sea;
Nehe DRC 9:10  And thou shewedst signs and wonders upon Pharao, and upon all his servants, and upon the people of his land: for thou knewest that they dealt proudly against them: and thou madest thyself a name, as it is at this day.
Nehe KJV 9:10  And shewedst signs and wonders upon Pharaoh, and on all his servants, and on all the people of his land: for thou knewest that they dealt proudly against them. So didst thou get thee a name, as it is this day.
Nehe DRC 9:11  And thou didst divide the sea before them, and they passed through the midst of the sea on dry land: but their persecutors thou threwest into the depth, as a stone into mighty waters.
Nehe VulgClem 9:11  Et mare divisisti ante eos, et transierunt per medium maris in sicco : persecutores autem eorum projecisti in profundum, quasi lapidem in aquas validas.
Nehe KJV 9:11  And thou didst divide the sea before them, so that they went through the midst of the sea on the dry land; and their persecutors thou threwest into the deeps, as a stone into the mighty waters.
Nehe DRC 9:12  And in a pillar of a cloud thou wast their leader by day, and in a pillar of fire by night, that they might see the way by which they went.
Nehe KJV 9:12  Moreover thou leddest them in the day by a cloudy pillar; and in the night by a pillar of fire, to give them light in the way wherein they should go.
Nehe DRC 9:13  Thou camest down also to mount Sinai, and didst speak with them from heaven, and thou gavest them right judgments, and the law of truth, ceremonies, and good precepts.
Nehe KJV 9:13  Thou camest down also upon mount Sinai, and spakest with them from heaven, and gavest them right judgments, and true laws, good statutes and commandments:
Nehe DRC 9:14  Thou madest known to them thy holy sabbath, and didst prescribe to them commandments, and ceremonies, and the law by the hand of Moses thy servant.
Nehe VulgClem 9:14  et sabbatum sanctificatum tuum ostendisti eis : et mandata, et cæremonias, et legem præcepisti eis in manu Moysi servi tui.
Nehe KJV 9:14  And madest known unto them thy holy sabbath, and commandedst them precepts, statutes, and laws, by the hand of Moses thy servant:
Nehe DRC 9:15  And thou gavest them bread from heaven in their hunger, and broughtest forth water for them out of the rock in their thirst, and thou saidst to them that they should go in, and possess the land, upon which thou hadst lifted up thy hand to give it them.
Nehe KJV 9:15  And gavest them bread from heaven for their hunger, and broughtest forth water for them out of the rock for their thirst, and promisedst them that they should go in to possess the land which thou hadst sworn to give them.
Nehe DRC 9:16  But they and our fathers dealt proudly, and hardened their necks and hearkened not to thy commandments.
Nehe KJV 9:16  But they and our fathers dealt proudly, and hardened their necks, and hearkened not to thy commandments,
Nehe DRC 9:17  And they would not hear, and they remembered not thy wonders which thou hadst done for them. And they hardened their necks, and gave the head to return to their bondage, as it were by contention. But thou, a forgiving God, gracious, and merciful, longsuffering, and full of compassion, didst not forsake them.
Nehe KJV 9:17  And refused to obey, neither were mindful of thy wonders that thou didst among them; but hardened their necks, and in their rebellion appointed a captain to return to their bondage: but thou art a God ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and forsookest them not.
Nehe DRC 9:18  Yea when they had made also to themselves a molten calf, and had said: This is thy God, that brought thee out of Egypt: and had committed great blasphemies:
Nehe VulgClem 9:18  et quidem cum fecissent sibi vitulum conflatilem, et dixissent : Iste est deus tuus, qui eduxit te de Ægypto : feceruntque blasphemias magnas :
Nehe KJV 9:18  Yea, when they had made them a molten calf, and said, This is thy God that brought thee up out of Egypt, and had wrought great provocations;
Nehe DRC 9:19  Yet thou, in thy many mercies, didst not leave them in the desert: the pillar of the cloud departed not from them by day to lead them in the way, and the pillar of fire by night to shew them the way by which they should go.
Nehe KJV 9:19  Yet thou in thy manifold mercies forsookest them not in the wilderness: the pillar of the cloud departed not from them by day, to lead them in the way; neither the pillar of fire by night, to shew them light, and the way wherein they should go.
Nehe DRC 9:20  And thou gavest them thy good Spirit to teach them, and thy manna thou didst not withhold from their mouth, and thou gavest them water for their thirst.
Nehe KJV 9:20  Thou gavest also thy good spirit to instruct them, and withheldest not thy manna from their mouth, and gavest them water for their thirst.
Nehe DRC 9:21  Forty years didst thou feed them in the desert, and nothing was wanting to them: their garments did not grow old, and their feet were not worn.
Nehe KJV 9:21  Yea, forty years didst thou sustain them in the wilderness, so that they lacked nothing; their clothes waxed not old, and their feet swelled not.
Nehe DRC 9:22  And thou gavest them kingdoms, and nations, and didst divide lots for them: and they possessed the land of Sehon, and the land of the king of Hesebon, and the land of Og king of Basan.
Nehe VulgClem 9:22  Et dedisti eis regna, et populos, et partitus es eis sortes : et possederunt terram Sehon, et terram regis Hesebon, et terram Og regis Basan.
Nehe KJV 9:22  Moreover thou gavest them kingdoms and nations, and didst divide them into corners: so they possessed the land of Sihon, and the land of the king of Heshbon, and the land of Og king of Bashan.
Nehe DRC 9:23  And thou didst multiply their children as the stars of heaven, and broughtest them to the land concerning which thou hadst said to their fathers, that they should go in and possess it.
Nehe KJV 9:23  Their children also multipliedst thou as the stars of heaven, and broughtest them into the land, concerning which thou hadst promised to their fathers, that they should go in to possess it.
Nehe DRC 9:24  And the children came and possessed the land, and thou didst humble before them the inhabitants of the land, the Chanaanites, and gavest them into their hands, with their kings, and the people of the land, that they might do with them as it pleased them.
Nehe KJV 9:24  So the children went in and possessed the land, and thou subduedst before them the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, and gavest them into their hands, with their kings, and the people of the land, that they might do with them as they would.
Nehe DRC 9:25  And they took strong cities and a fat land, and possessed houses full of all goods: cisterns made by others, vineyards, and oliveyards, and fruit trees in abundance: and they ate, and were filled, and became fat, and abounded with delight in thy great goodness.
Nehe KJV 9:25  And they took strong cities, and a fat land, and possessed houses full of all goods, wells digged, vineyards, and oliveyards, and fruit trees in abundance: so they did eat, and were filled, and became fat, and delighted themselves in thy great goodness.
Nehe DRC 9:26  But they provoked thee to wrath, and departed from thee, and threw thy law behind their backs: and they killed thy prophets, who admonished them earnestly to return to thee: and they were guilty of great blasphemies.
Nehe KJV 9:26  Nevertheless they were disobedient, and rebelled against thee, and cast thy law behind their backs, and slew thy prophets which testified against them to turn them to thee, and they wrought great provocations.
Nehe DRC 9:27  And thou gavest them into the hands of their enemies, and they afflicted them. And in the time of their tribulation they cried to thee, and thou heardest from heaven, and according to the multitude of thy tender mercies thou gavest them saviours, to save them from the hands of their enemies.
Nehe KJV 9:27  Therefore thou deliveredst them into the hand of their enemies, who vexed them: and in the time of their trouble, when they cried unto thee, thou heardest them from heaven; and according to thy manifold mercies thou gavest them saviours, who saved them out of the hand of their enemies.
Nehe DRC 9:28  But after they had rest, they returned to do evil in thy sight: and thou leftest them in the hand of their enemies, and they had dominion over them. Then they returned, and cried to thee: and thou heardest from heaven, and deliveredst them many times in thy mercies.
Nehe KJV 9:28  But after they had rest, they did evil again before thee: therefore leftest thou them in the hand of their enemies, so that they had the dominion over them: yet when they returned, and cried unto thee, thou heardest them from heaven; and many times didst thou deliver them according to thy mercies;
Nehe DRC 9:29  And thou didst admonish them to return to thy law. But they dealt proudly, and hearkened not to thy commandments, but sinned against thy judgments, which if a man do, he shall live in them: and they withdrew the shoulder, and hardened their neck, and would not hear.
Nehe KJV 9:29  And testifiedst against them, that thou mightest bring them again unto thy law: yet they dealt proudly, and hearkened not unto thy commandments, but sinned against thy judgments, (which if a man do, he shall live in them;) and withdrew the shoulder, and hardened their neck, and would not hear.
Nehe DRC 9:30  And thou didst forbear with them for many years, and didst testify against them by thy spirit by the hand of thy prophets: and they heard not, and thou didst deliver them into the hand of the people of the lands.
Nehe KJV 9:30  Yet many years didst thou forbear them, and testifiedst against them by thy spirit in thy prophets: yet would they not give ear: therefore gavest thou them into the hand of the people of the lands.
Nehe DRC 9:31  Yet in thy very many mercies thou didst not utterly consume them, nor forsake them: because thou art a merciful and gracious God.
Nehe KJV 9:31  Nevertheless for thy great mercies’ sake thou didst not utterly consume them, nor forsake them; for thou art a gracious and merciful God.
Nehe DRC 9:32  Now therefore our God, great, strong, and terrible, who keepest covenant and mercy, turn not away from thy face all the labour which hath come upon us, upon our kings, and our princes, and our priests, and our prophets, and our fathers, and all the people from the days of the king of Assur, until this day.
Nehe KJV 9:32  Now therefore, our God, the great, the mighty, and the terrible God, who keepest covenant and mercy, let not all the trouble seem little before thee, that hath come upon us, on our kings, on our princes, and on our priests, and on our prophets, and on our fathers, and on all thy people, since the time of the kings of Assyria unto this day.
Nehe DRC 9:33  And thou art just in all things that have come upon us: because thou hast done truth, but we have done wickedly.
Nehe KJV 9:33  Howbeit thou art just in all that is brought upon us; for thou hast done right, but we have done wickedly:
Nehe DRC 9:34  Our kings, our princes, our priests, and our fathers have not kept thy law, and have not minded thy commandments, and thy testimonies which thou hast testified among them.
Nehe KJV 9:34  Neither have our kings, our princes, our priests, nor our fathers, kept thy law, nor hearkened unto thy commandments and thy testimonies, wherewith thou didst testify against them.
Nehe DRC 9:35  And they have not served thee in their kingdoms, and in thy manifold goodness, which thou gavest them, and in the large and fat land, which thou deliveredst before them, nor did they return from their most wicked devices.
Nehe KJV 9:35  For they have not served thee in their kingdom, and in thy great goodness that thou gavest them, and in the large and fat land which thou gavest before them, neither turned they from their wicked works.
Nehe DRC 9:36  Behold we ourselves this day are bondmen: and the land, which thou gavest our fathers, to eat the bread thereof, and the good things thereof, and we ourselves are servants in it.
Nehe KJV 9:36  Behold, we are servants this day, and for the land that thou gavest unto our fathers to eat the fruit thereof and the good thereof, behold, we are servants in it:
Nehe DRC 9:37  And the fruits thereof grow up for the kings, whom thou hast set over us for our sins, and they have dominion over our bodies, and over our beasts, according to their will, and we are in great tribulation.
Nehe VulgClem 9:37  Et fruges ejus multiplicantur regibus quos posuisti super nos propter peccata nostra : et corporibus nostris dominantur, et jumentis nostris secundum voluntatem suam : et in tribulatione magna sumus.
Nehe KJV 9:37  And it yieldeth much increase unto the kings whom thou hast set over us because of our sins: also they have dominion over our bodies, and over our cattle, at their pleasure, and we are in great distress.
Nehe DRC 9:38  And because of all this we ourselves make a covenant, and write it, and our princes, our Levites, and our priests sign it.
Nehe VulgClem 9:38  Super omnibus ergo his nos ipsi percutimus fœdus, et scribimus : et signant principes nostri, Levitæ nostri, et sacerdotes nostri.
Nehe KJV 9:38  And because of all this we make a sure covenant, and write it; and our princes, Levites, and priests, seal unto it.

Nehe KJV 10:28  And the rest of the people, the priests, the Levites, the porters, the singers, the Nethinims, and all they that had separated themselves from the people of the lands unto the law of God, their wives, their sons, and their daughters, every one having knowledge, and having understanding;
Nehe DRC 10:29  All that could understand, promising for their brethren, with their chief men, and they came to promise, and swear that they would walk in the law of God, which he gave in the hand of Moses the servant of God, that they would do and keep all the commandments of the Lord our God, and his judgments and his ceremonies.
Nehe KJV 10:29  They clave to their brethren, their nobles, and entered into a curse, and into an oath, to walk in God’s law, which was given by Moses the servant of God, and to observe and do all the commandments of the Lord our Lord, and his judgments and his statutes;
Nehe DRC 10:30  And that we would not give our daughters to the people of the land, nor take their daughters for our sons.
Nehe KJV 10:30  And that we would not give our daughters unto the people of the land, nor take their daughters for our sons:
Nehe DRC 10:31  And if the people of the land bring in things to sell, or any things for use, to sell them on the sabbath day, that we would not buy them on the sabbath, or on the holy day. And that we would leave the seventh year, and the exaction of every hand.
Nehe KJV 10:31  And if the people of the land bring ware or any victuals on the sabbath day to sell, that we would not buy it of them on the sabbath, or on the holy day: and that we would leave the seventh year, and the exaction of every debt.
Nehe DRC 10:32  And we made ordinances for ourselves, to give the third part of a sicle every year for the work of the house of our God,
Nehe KJV 10:32  Also we made ordinances for us, to charge ourselves yearly with the third part of a shekel for the service of the house of our God;
Nehe DRC 10:33  For the loaves of proposition, and for the continual sacrifice, and for a continual holocaust on the sabbaths, on the new moons, on the set feasts, and for the holy things, and for the sin offering: that atonement might be made for Israel, and for every use of the house of our God.
Nehe KJV 10:33  For the shewbread, and for the continual meat offering, and for the continual burnt offering, of the sabbaths, of the new moons, for the set feasts, and for the holy things, and for the sin offerings to make an atonement for Israel, and for all the work of the house of our God.
Nehe DRC 10:34  And we cast lots among the priests, and the Levites, and the people for the offering of wood, that it might be brought into the house of our God by the houses of our fathers at set times, from year to year: to burn upon the altar of the Lord our God, as it is written in the law of Moses:
Nehe VulgClem 10:34  Sortes ergo misimus super oblationem lignorum inter sacerdotes, et Levitas, et populum, ut inferrentur in domum Dei nostri per domos patrum nostrorum, per tempora, a temporibus anni usque ad annum : ut arderent super altare Domini Dei nostri, sicut scriptum est in lege Moysi :
Nehe KJV 10:34  And we cast the lots among the priests, the Levites, and the people, for the wood offering, to bring it into the house of our God, after the houses of our fathers, at times appointed year by year, to burn upon the altar of the Lord our God, as it is written in the law:
Nehe DRC 10:35  And that we would bring the firstfruits of our land, and the firstfruits of all fruit of every tree, from year to year, in the house of our Lord.
Nehe KJV 10:35  And to bring the firstfruits of our ground, and the firstfruits of all fruit of all trees, year by year, unto the house of the Lord:
Nehe DRC 10:36  And the firstborn of our sons, and of our cattle, as it is written in the law, and the firstlings of our oxen, and of our sheep, to be offered in the house of our God, to the priests who minister in the house of our God.
Nehe KJV 10:36  Also the firstborn of our sons, and of our cattle, as it is written in the law, and the firstlings of our herds and of our flocks, to bring to the house of our God, unto the priests that minister in the house of our God:
Nehe DRC 10:37  And that we would bring the firstfruits of our meats, and of our libations, and the fruit of every tree, of the vintage also and of oil to the priests, to the storehouse of our God, and the tithes of our ground to the Levites. The Levites also shall receive the tithes of our works out of all the cities.
Nehe KJV 10:37  And that we should bring the firstfruits of our dough, and our offerings, and the fruit of all manner of trees, of wine and of oil, unto the priests, to the chambers of the house of our God; and the tithes of our ground unto the Levites, that the same Levites might have the tithes in all the cities of our tillage.
Nehe DRC 10:38  And the priest the son of Aaron shall be with the Levites in the tithes of the Levites, and the Levites shall offer the tithe of their tithes in the house of our God, to the storeroom into the treasure house.

Nehe KJV 12:30  And the priests and the Levites purified themselves, and purified the people, and the gates, and the wall.
Nehe DRC 12:31  And I made the princes of Juda go up upon the wall, and I appointed two great choirs to give praise. And they went on the right hand upon the wall toward the dung gate.
Nehe KJV 12:31  Then I brought up the princes of Judah upon the wall, and appointed two great companies of them that gave thanks, whereof one went on the right hand upon the wall toward the dung gate:
Nehe DRC 12:32  And after them went Osaias, and half of the princes of Juda,
Nehe VulgClem 12:32  Et ivit post eos Osaias, et media pars principum Juda,
Nehe KJV 12:32  And after them went Hoshaiah, and half of the princes of Judah,
Nehe DRC 12:33  And Azarias, Esdras, and Mosollam, Judas, and Benjamin, and Semeia, and Jeremias.
Nehe VulgClem 12:33  et Azarias, Esdras, et Mosollam, Judas, et Benjamin, et Semeia, et Jeremias.
Nehe KJV 12:33  And Azariah, Ezra, and Meshullam,
Nehe DRC 12:34  And of the sons of the priests with trumpets, Zacharias the son of Jonathan, the son of Semeia, the son of Mathania, the son of Michaia, the son of Zechur, the son of Asaph,
Nehe VulgClem 12:34  Et de filiis sacerdotum in tubis, Zacharias filius Jonathan, filius Semeiæ, filius Mathaniæ, filius Michaiæ, filius Zechur, filius Asaph,
Nehe KJV 12:34  Judah, and Benjamin, and Shemaiah, and Jeremiah,
Nehe DRC 12:35  And his brethren Semeia, and Azareel, Malalai, Galalai, Maai, Nathanael, and Judas, and Hanani, with the musical instruments of David the man of God: and Esdras the scribe before them at the fountain gate.
Nehe VulgClem 12:35  et fratres ejus Semeia, et Azareel, Malalai, Galalai, Maai, Nathanaël, et Judas, et Hanani, in vasis cantici David viri Dei : et Esdras scriba ante eos in porta fontis.
Nehe KJV 12:35  And certain of the priests’ sons with trumpets; namely, Zechariah the son of Jonathan, the son of Shemaiah, the son of Mattaniah, the son of Michaiah, the son of Zaccur, the son of Asaph:
Nehe DRC 12:36  And they went up over against them by the stairs of the city of David, at the going up of the wall of the house of David, and to the water gate eastward:
Nehe VulgClem 12:36  Et contra eos ascenderunt in gradibus civitatis David in ascensu muri super domum David, et usque ad portam aquarum ad orientem.
Nehe KJV 12:36  And his brethren, Shemaiah, and Azarael, Milalai, Gilalai, Maai, Nethaneel, and Judah, Hanani, with the musical instruments of David the man of God, and Ezra the scribe before them.
Nehe DRC 12:37  And the second choir of them that gave thanks went on the opposite side, and I after them, and the half of the people upon the wall, and upon the tower of the furnaces, even to the broad wall,
Nehe KJV 12:37  And at the fountain gate, which was over against them, they went up by the stairs of the city of David, at the going up of the wall, above the house of David, even unto the water gate eastward.
Nehe DRC 12:38  And above the gate of Ephraim, and above the old gate, and above the fish gate and the tower of Hananeel, and the tower of Emath, and even to the flock gate: and they stood still in the watch gate.
Nehe KJV 12:38  And the other company of them that gave thanks went over against them, and I after them, and the half of the people upon the wall, from beyond the tower of the furnaces even unto the broad wall;
Nehe DRC 12:39  And the two choirs of them that gave praise stood still at the house of God, and I and the half of the magistrates with me.
Nehe VulgClem 12:39  steteruntque duo chori laudantium in domo Dei, et ego, et dimidia pars magistratuum mecum.
Nehe KJV 12:39  And from above the gate of Ephraim, and above the old gate, and above the fish gate, and the tower of Hananeel, and the tower of Meah, even unto the sheep gate: and they stood still in the prison gate.
Nehe DRC 12:40  And the priests, Eliachim, Maasia, Miamin, Michea, Elioenai, Zacharia, Hanania with trumpets,
Nehe VulgClem 12:40  Et sacerdotes, Eliachim, Maasia, Miamin, Michea, Elioënai, Zacharia, Hanania in tubis,
Nehe KJV 12:40  So stood the two companies of them that gave thanks in the house of God, and I, and the half of the rulers with me:
Nehe DRC 12:41  And Maasia, and Semeia, and Eleazar, and Azzi, and Johanan, and Melchia, and Elam, and Ezer. And the singers sung loud, and Jezraia was their overseer:
Nehe VulgClem 12:41  et Maasia, et Semeia, et Eleazar, et Azzi, et Johanan, et Melchia, et Ælam, et Ezer. Et clare cecinerunt cantores, et Jezraia præpositus :
Nehe KJV 12:41  And the priests; Eliakim, Maaseiah, Miniamin, Michaiah, Elioenai, Zechariah, and Hananiah, with trumpets;
Nehe DRC 12:42  And they sacrificed on that day great sacrifices, and they rejoiced: for God had made them joyful with great joy: their wives also and their children rejoiced, and the joy of Jerusalem was heard afar off.
Nehe KJV 12:42  And Maaseiah, and Shemaiah, and Eleazar, and Uzzi, and Jehohanan, and Malchijah, and Elam, and Ezer. And the singers sang loud, with Jezrahiah their overseer.
Nehe DRC 12:43  They appointed also in that day men over the storehouses of the treasure, for the libations, and for the firstfruits, and for the tithes, that the rulers of the city might bring them in by them in honour of thanksgiving, for the priests and Levites: for Juda was joyful in the priests and Levites that assisted.
Nehe KJV 12:43  Also that day they offered great sacrifices, and rejoiced: for God had made them rejoice with great joy: the wives also and the children rejoiced: so that the joy of Jerusalem was heard even afar off.
Nehe DRC 12:44  And they kept the watch of their God, and the observance of expiation, and the singing men, and the porters, according to the commandment of David, and of Solomon his son.
Nehe VulgClem 12:44  Et custodierunt observationem Dei sui, et observationem expiationis, et cantores, et janitores juxta præceptum David, et Salomonis filii ejus,
Nehe KJV 12:44  And at that time were some appointed over the chambers for the treasures, for the offerings, for the firstfruits, and for the tithes, to gather into them out of the fields of the cities the portions of the law for the priests and Levites: for Judah rejoiced for the priests and for the Levites that waited.
Nehe DRC 12:45  For in the days of David and Asaph from the beginning there were chief singers appointed, to praise with canticles, and give thanks to God.
Nehe KJV 12:45  And both the singers and the porters kept the ward of their God, and the ward of the purification, according to the commandment of David, and of Solomon his son.
Nehe DRC 12:46  And all Israel, in the days of Zorobabel, and in the days of Nehemiah gave portions to the singing men, and to the porters, day by day, and they sanctified the Levites, and the Levites sanctified the sons of Aaron.
Nehe KJV 12:46  For in the days of David and Asaph of old there were chief of the singers, and songs of praise and thanksgiving unto God.
Nehe DRC 12:47
Nehe VulgClem 12:47
Nehe KJV 12:47  And all Israel in the days of Zerubbabel, and in the days of Nehemiah, gave the portions of the singers and the porters, every day his portion: and they sanctified holy things unto the Levites; and the Levites sanctified them unto the children of Aaron.
Chapter 13
Nehe DRC 13:1  And on that day they read in the book of Moses in the hearing of the people: and therein was found written, that the Ammonites and the Moabites should not come in to the church of God for ever:
Nehe VulgClem 13:1  In die autem illo, lectum est in volumine Moysi, audiente populo : et inventum est scriptum in eo, quod non debeant introire Ammonites et Moabites in ecclesiam Dei usque in æternum :
Nehe KJV 13:1  On that day they read in the book of Moses in the audience of the people; and therein was found written, that the Ammonite and the Moabite should not come into the congregation of God for ever;
Nehe DRC 13:2  Because they met not the children of Israel with bread and water: and they hired against them Balaam, to curse them, and our God turned the curse into blessing.
Nehe KJV 13:2  Because they met not the children of Israel with bread and with water, but hired Balaam against them, that he should curse them: howbeit our God turned the curse into a blessing.
Nehe DRC 13:3  And it came to pass, when they had heard the law, that they separated every stranger from Israel.
Nehe KJV 13:3  Now it came to pass, when they had heard the law, that they separated from Israel all the mixed multitude.
Nehe DRC 13:4  And over this thing was Eliasib the priest, who was set over the treasury of the house of our God, and was near akin to Tobias.
Nehe KJV 13:4  And before this, Eliashib the priest, having the oversight of the chamber of the house of our God, was allied unto Tobiah:
Nehe DRC 13:5  And he made him a great storeroom, where before him they laid up gifts, and frankincense, and vessels, and the tithes of the corn, of the wine, and of the oil, the portions of the Levites, and of the singing men, and of the porters, and the firstfruits of the priests.
Nehe VulgClem 13:5  Fecit ergo sibi gazophylacium grande, et ibi erant ante eum reponentes munera, et thus, et vasa, et decimam frumenti, vini, et olei, partes Levitarum, et cantorum, et janitorum, et primitias sacerdotales.
Nehe KJV 13:5  And he had prepared for him a great chamber, where aforetime they laid the meat offerings, the frankincense, and the vessels, and the tithes of the corn, the new wine, and the oil, which was commanded to be given to the Levites, and the singers, and the porters; and the offerings of the priests.
Nehe DRC 13:6  But in all this time I was not in Jerusalem, because in the two and thirtieth year of Artaxerxes king of Babylon, I went to the king, and after certain days I asked the king:
Nehe VulgClem 13:6  In omnibus autem his non fui in Jerusalem, quia anno trigesimo secundo Artaxerxis regis Babylonis veni ad regem, et in fine dierum rogavi regem.
Nehe KJV 13:6  But in all this time was not I at Jerusalem: for in the two and thirtieth year of Artaxerxes king of Babylon came I unto the king, and after certain days obtained I leave of the king:
Nehe DRC 13:7  And I came to Jerusalem, and I understood the evil that Eliasib had done for Tobias, to make him a storehouse in the courts of the house of God.
Nehe VulgClem 13:7  Et veni in Jerusalem, et intellexi malum quod fecerat Eliasib Tobiæ, ut faceret ei thesaurum in vestibulis domus Dei.
Nehe KJV 13:7  And I came to Jerusalem, and understood of the evil that Eliashib did for Tobiah, in preparing him a chamber in the courts of the house of God.
Nehe DRC 13:8  And it seemed to me exceeding evil. And I cast forth the vessels of the house of Tobias out of the storehouse.
Nehe KJV 13:8  And it grieved me sore: therefore I cast forth all the household stuff of Tobiah out of the chamber.
Nehe DRC 13:9  And I commanded and they cleansed again the vessels of the house of God, the sacrifice, and the frankincense.
Nehe VulgClem 13:9  præcepique et emundaverunt gazophylacia : et retuli ibi vasa domus Dei, sacrificium, et thus.
Nehe KJV 13:9  Then I commanded, and they cleansed the chambers: and thither brought I again the vessels of the house of God, with the meat offering and the frankincense.
Nehe DRC 13:10  And I perceived that the portions of the Levites had not been given them: and that the Levites, and the singing men, and they that ministered were fled away every man to his own country:
Nehe VulgClem 13:10  Et cognovi quod partes Levitarum non fuissent datæ, et fugisset unusquisque in regionem suam de Levitis, et cantoribus, et de his qui ministrabant :
Nehe KJV 13:10  And I perceived that the portions of the Levites had not been given them: for the Levites and the singers, that did the work, were fled every one to his field.
Nehe DRC 13:11  And I pleaded the matter against the magistrates, and said: Why have we forsaken the house of God? And I gathered them together, and I made them to stand in their places.
Nehe VulgClem 13:11  et egi causam adversus magistratus, et dixi : Quare dereliquimus domum Dei ? et congregavi eos, et feci stare in stationibus suis.
Nehe KJV 13:11  Then contended I with the rulers, and said, Why is the house of God forsaken? And I gathered them together, and set them in their place.
Nehe DRC 13:12  And all Juda brought the tithe of the corn, and the wine, and the oil into the storehouses.
Nehe VulgClem 13:12  Et omnis Juda apportabat decimam frumenti, vini, et olei, in horrea.
Nehe KJV 13:12  Then brought all Judah the tithe of the corn and the new wine and the oil unto the treasuries.
Nehe DRC 13:13  And we set over the storehouses Selemias the priest, and Sadoc the scribe, and of the Levites Phadaia, and next to them Hanan the son of Zachur, the son of Mathania: for they were approved as faithful, and to them were committed the portions of their brethren.
Nehe KJV 13:13  And I made treasurers over the treasuries, Shelemiah the priest, and Zadok the scribe, and of the Levites, Pedaiah: and next to them was Hanan the son of Zaccur, the son of Mattaniah: for they were counted faithful, and their office was to distribute unto their brethren.
Nehe DRC 13:14  Remember me, O my God, for this thing, and wipe not out my kindnesses, which I have done relating to the house of my God and his ceremonies.
Nehe KJV 13:14  Remember me, O my God, concerning this, and wipe not out my good deeds that I have done for the house of my God, and for the offices thereof.
Nehe DRC 13:15  In those days I saw in Juda some treading the presses on the sabbath, and carrying sheaves, and lading asses with wine, and grapes, and figs, and all manner of burthens, and bringing them into Jerusalem on the sabbath day. And I charged them that they should sell on a day on which it was lawful to sell.
Nehe KJV 13:15  In those days saw I in Judah some treading wine presses on the sabbath, and bringing in sheaves, and lading asses; as also wine, grapes, and figs, and all manner of burdens, which they brought into Jerusalem on the sabbath day: and I testified against them in the day wherein they sold victuals.
Nehe DRC 13:16  Some Tyrians also dwelt there, who brought fish, and all manner of wares: and they sold them on the sabbaths to the children of Juda in Jerusalem.
Nehe VulgClem 13:16  Et Tyrii habitaverunt in ea, inferentes pisces, et omnia venalia : et vendebant in sabbatis filiis Juda in Jerusalem.
Nehe KJV 13:16  There dwelt men of Tyre also therein, which brought fish, and all manner of ware, and sold on the sabbath unto the children of Judah, and in Jerusalem.
Nehe DRC 13:17  And I rebuked the chief men of Juda, and said to them: What is this evil thing that you are doing, profaning the sabbath day:
Nehe VulgClem 13:17  Et objurgavi optimates Juda, et dixi eis : Quæ est hæc res mala quam vos facitis, et profanatis diem sabbati ?
Nehe KJV 13:17  Then I contended with the nobles of Judah, and said unto them, What evil thing is this that ye do, and profane the sabbath day?
Nehe DRC 13:18  Did not our fathers do these things, and our God brought all this evil upon us, and upon this city? And you bring more wrath upon Israel by violating the sabbath.
Nehe KJV 13:18  Did not your fathers thus, and did not our God bring all this evil upon us, and upon this city? yet ye bring more wrath upon Israel by profaning the sabbath.
Nehe DRC 13:19  And it came to pass, that when the gates of Jerusalem were at rest on the sabbath day, I spoke: and they shut the gates, and I commanded that they should not open them till after the sabbath: and I set some of my servants at the gates, that none should bring in burthens on the sabbath day.
Nehe KJV 13:19  And it came to pass, that when the gates of Jerusalem began to be dark before the sabbath, I commanded that the gates should be shut, and charged that they should not be opened till after the sabbath: and some of my servants set I at the gates, that there should no burden be brought in on the sabbath day.
Nehe DRC 13:20  So the merchants, and they that sold all kinds of wares, stayed without Jerusalem, once or twice.
Nehe VulgClem 13:20  Et manserunt negotiatores, et vendentes universa venalia, foris Jerusalem semel et bis.
Nehe KJV 13:20  So the merchants and sellers of all kind of ware lodged without Jerusalem once or twice.
Nehe DRC 13:21  And I charged them, and I said to them: Why stay you before the wall? if you do so another time, I will lay hands on you. And from that time they came no more on the sabbath.
Nehe KJV 13:21  Then I testified against them, and said unto them, Why lodge ye about the wall? if ye do so again, I will lay hands on you. From that time forth came they no more on the sabbath.
Nehe DRC 13:22  I spoke also to the Levites that they should be purified, and should come to keep the gates, and to sanctify the sabbath day: for this also remember me, O my God, and spare me according to the multitude of thy tender mercies.
Nehe KJV 13:22  And I commanded the Levites that they should cleanse themselves, and that they should come and keep the gates, to sanctify the sabbath day. Remember me, O my God, concerning this also, and spare me according to the greatness of thy mercy.
Nehe DRC 13:23  In those days also I saw Jews that married wives, women of Azotus, and of Ammon, and of Moab.
Nehe VulgClem 13:23  Sed et in diebus illis vidi Judæos ducentes uxores Azotidas, Ammonitidas, et Moabitidas.
Nehe KJV 13:23  In those days also saw I Jews that had married wives of Ashdod, of Ammon, and of Moab:
Nehe DRC 13:24  And their children spoke half in the speech of Azotus, and could not speak the Jews' language, but they spoke according to the language of this and that people.
Nehe KJV 13:24  And their children spake half in the speech of Ashdod, and could not speak in the Jews’ language, but according to the language of each people.
Nehe DRC 13:25  And I chid them, and laid my curse upon them. And I beat some of them, and shaved off their hair, and made them swear by God that they would not give their daughters to their sons, nor take their daughters for their sons, nor for themselves, saying:
Nehe VulgClem 13:25  Et objurgavi eos, et maledixi. Et cecidi ex eis viros, et decalvavi eos, et adjuravi in Deo ut non darent filias suas filiis eorum, et non acciperent de filiabus eorum filiis suis et sibimetipsis, dicens :
Nehe KJV 13:25  And I contended with them, and cursed them, and smote certain of them, and plucked off their hair, and made them swear by God, saying, Ye shall not give your daughters unto their sons, nor take their daughters unto your sons, or for yourselves.
Nehe DRC 13:26  Did not Solomon king of Israel sin in this kind of thing: and surely among many nations, there was not a king like him, and he was beloved of his God, and God made him king over all Israel: and yet women of other countries brought even him to sin.
Nehe KJV 13:26  Did not Solomon king of Israel sin by these things? yet among many nations was there no king like him, who was beloved of his God, and God made him king over all Israel: nevertheless even him did outlandish women cause to sin.
Nehe DRC 13:27  And shall we also be disobedient and do all this great evil to transgress against our God, and marry strange women:
Nehe VulgClem 13:27  Numquid et nos inobedientes faciemus omne malum grande hoc ut prævaricemur in Deo nostro, et ducamus uxores peregrinas ?
Nehe KJV 13:27  Shall we then hearken unto you to do all this great evil, to transgress against our God in marrying strange wives?
Nehe DRC 13:28  And one of the sons of Joiada the son of Eliasib the high priest, was son in law to Sanaballat the Horonite, and I drove him from me.
Nehe VulgClem 13:28  De filiis autem Jojada filii Eliasib sacerdotis magni, gener erat Sanaballat Horonites, quem fugavi a me.
Nehe KJV 13:28  And one of the sons of Joiada, the son of Eliashib the high priest, was son in law to Sanballat the Horonite: therefore I chased him from me.
Nehe DRC 13:29  Remember them, O Lord my God, that defile the priesthood, and the law of priests and Levites.
Nehe VulgClem 13:29  Recordare, Domine Deus meus, adversum eos qui polluunt sacerdotium, jusque sacerdotale et Leviticum.
Nehe KJV 13:29  Remember them, O my God, because they have defiled the priesthood, and the covenant of the priesthood, and of the Levites.
Nehe DRC 13:30  So I separated from them all strangers, and I appointed the courses of the priests and the Levites, every man in his ministry:
Nehe VulgClem 13:30  Igitur mundavi eos ab omnibus alienigenis, et constitui ordines sacerdotum et Levitarum, unumquemque in ministerio suo :
Nehe KJV 13:30  Thus cleansed I them from all strangers, and appointed the wards of the priests and the Levites, every one in his business;
Nehe DRC 13:31  And for the offering of wood at times appointed, and for the firstfruits: remember me, O my God, unto good. Amen.
Nehe VulgClem 13:31  et in oblatione lignorum in temporibus constitutis, et in primitivis : memento mei, Deus meus, in bonum. Amen.
Nehe KJV 13:31  And for the wood offering, at times appointed, and for the firstfruits. Remember me, O my God, for good.
