Chapter 1
Prov AFV2020 1:1  The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel:
Prov AFV2020 1:2  To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;
Prov AFV2020 1:3  To receive the instruction of wisdom, righteousness, and judgment, and equity;
Prov AFV2020 1:4  To give prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the young man.
Prov AFV2020 1:5  A wise man will hear and will increase learning, and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsel
Prov AFV2020 1:6  To understand a proverb and its interpretation, the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.
Prov AFV2020 1:7  The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Prov AFV2020 1:8  My son, hear the instruction of your father and forsake not the law of your mother,
Prov AFV2020 1:9  For they shall be an ornament of grace to your head and chains around your neck.
Prov AFV2020 1:11  If they say, "Come with us, let us lie in wait for blood; we will watch secretly for the innocent without cause;
Prov AFV2020 1:12  Let us swallow them up alive as the grave, and whole, as those who go down into the pit;
Prov AFV2020 1:13  We shall find all precious substance; we shall fill our houses with plunder;
Prov AFV2020 1:14  Cast in your lot among us, and let us have one purse."
Prov AFV2020 1:15  My son, do not walk in the way with them! Keep back your foot from their path,
Prov AFV2020 1:16  For their feet run to evil and make haste to shed blood.
Prov AFV2020 1:17  Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird,
Prov AFV2020 1:18  But they lie in wait for their own blood; they watch secretly for their own lives.
Prov AFV2020 1:19  So are the ways of everyone who gets gain by violence, who takes away the life of its owners.
Prov AFV2020 1:20  Wisdom cries outside; she utters her voice in the streets;
Prov AFV2020 1:21  She cries in the chief place of gathering, in the openings of the gates; in the city she utters her words, saying,
Prov AFV2020 1:22  "How long will you love simplicity, simple ones? And will scorners delight in their scorning? And will fools hate knowledge?
Prov AFV2020 1:23  Turn back at my reproof; behold, I will pour out my spirit to you; I will make my words known to you.
Prov AFV2020 1:24  Because I called, and you refused to hearken, I stretched out my hand, and no one paid attention;
Prov AFV2020 1:25  But you have despised all my counsel and would have none of my reproof.
Prov AFV2020 1:26  I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear comes;
Prov AFV2020 1:27  When your calamity comes like a storm, and your destruction comes like a whirlwind, when trouble and pain come upon you,
Prov AFV2020 1:28  Then they shall call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me.
Prov AFV2020 1:29  Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the LORD,
Prov AFV2020 1:30  They would have none of my counsel; they despised all my correction.
Prov AFV2020 1:31  Therefore they shall eat the fruit of their own way and be filled with their own devices.
Prov AFV2020 1:32  For the waywardness of the simple shall slay them, and the complacency of fools destroys them.
Prov AFV2020 1:33  But whoever hearkens to me shall dwell safely and shall be secure without fear of harm."
Chapter 2
Prov AFV2020 2:1  My son, if you will receive my words and treasure up my commandments within you,
Prov AFV2020 2:2  So that you incline your ear to wisdom and apply your heart to understanding;
Prov AFV2020 2:3  Yea, if you cry after knowledge and lift up your voice for understanding;
Prov AFV2020 2:4  If you seek her as silver and search for her as for hidden treasures,
Prov AFV2020 2:5  Then you shall understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.
Prov AFV2020 2:6  For the LORD gives wisdom; out of His mouth comes knowledge and understanding.
Prov AFV2020 2:7  He lays up sound wisdom for the righteous; He is a shield to those who walk uprightly.
Prov AFV2020 2:8  He keeps the paths of right judgment and preserves the way of His saints.
Prov AFV2020 2:9  Then you shall understand righteousness and judgment and equity, every good path.
Prov AFV2020 2:10  Wisdom shall enter into your heart, and knowledge will be pleasing to your soul;
Prov AFV2020 2:11  Discretion shall preserve you and, understanding shall keep you,
Prov AFV2020 2:12  To deliver you from the way of the evil man, from the man who speaks wicked things,
Prov AFV2020 2:13  Those who leave the paths of uprightness to walk in the ways of darkness,
Prov AFV2020 2:14  Who rejoice to do evil and delight in the perversities of the wicked,
Prov AFV2020 2:15  Whose ways are crooked, and are devious in their paths;
Prov AFV2020 2:16  To deliver you from the wanton woman, even from the stranger who flatters with her words,
Prov AFV2020 2:17  Who forsakes the guide of her youth and forgets the covenant of her God,
Prov AFV2020 2:18  For her house sinks down to death, and her paths to the dead.
Prov AFV2020 2:19  None that go unto her return again, nor do they take hold of the paths of life—
Prov AFV2020 2:20  In order that you may walk in the way of good and keep the paths of the righteous.
Prov AFV2020 2:21  For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it.
Prov AFV2020 2:22  But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.
Chapter 3
Prov AFV2020 3:1  My son, do not forget my law, but let your heart keep my commandments;
Prov AFV2020 3:2  For they shall add length of days, and long life, and peace, to you.
Prov AFV2020 3:3  Do not let mercy and truth forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them upon the tablet of your heart;
Prov AFV2020 3:4  And so you shall find favor and good understanding in the sight of God and man.
Prov AFV2020 3:5  Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not to your own understanding.
Prov AFV2020 3:6  In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.
Prov AFV2020 3:7  Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and depart from evil.
Prov AFV2020 3:8  It shall be health to your navel and marrow to your bones.
Prov AFV2020 3:9  Honor the LORD with your substance and with the firstfruits of all your increase;
Prov AFV2020 3:10  And your barns shall be filled with plenty, and your presses shall burst with new wine.
Prov AFV2020 3:11  My son, do not despise the chastening of the LORD, nor be weary of His correction;
Prov AFV2020 3:12  For whom the LORD loves He corrects, even as a father corrects the son in whom he delights.
Prov AFV2020 3:13  Blessed is the man who finds wisdom, and the man who gets understanding,
Prov AFV2020 3:14  For the merchandise of it is better than the gain from silver, and its produce more than the gain of fine gold;
Prov AFV2020 3:15  She is more precious than rubies; and all the things you can desire are not to be compared with her.
Prov AFV2020 3:16  Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand, riches and honor.
Prov AFV2020 3:17  Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.
Prov AFV2020 3:18  She is a tree of life to those who lay hold upon her; and happy is everyone who holds her fast.
Prov AFV2020 3:19  The LORD has founded the earth by wisdom; by understanding He has established the heavens.
Prov AFV2020 3:20  By His knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew.
Prov AFV2020 3:21  My son, do not let them depart from your eyes; keep sound wisdom and discretion,
Prov AFV2020 3:22  And they shall be life to your soul and grace to your neck.
Prov AFV2020 3:23  Then you shall walk in your way safely, and your foot shall not stumble.
Prov AFV2020 3:24  When you lie down, you shall not be afraid; yea, you shall lie down, and your sleep shall be sweet.
Prov AFV2020 3:25  Have no fear of sudden disaster, nor of the desolation of the wicked when it comes;
Prov AFV2020 3:26  For the LORD shall be your confidence and shall keep your foot from being taken.
Prov AFV2020 3:27  Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do it.
Prov AFV2020 3:28  Do not say to your neighbor, "Go and come back again, and tomorrow I will give," when you have it with you:
Prov AFV2020 3:29  Do not plan evil against your neighbor since he dwells trustingly by you.
Prov AFV2020 3:30  Do not strive with a man without cause if he has done you no harm.
Prov AFV2020 3:31  Do not envy the oppressor, and choose none of his ways,
Prov AFV2020 3:32  For the crooked man is an abomination to the LORD, but His secret is with the righteous.
Prov AFV2020 3:33  The curse of the LORD is in the house of the wicked, but He blesses the home of the righteous.
Prov AFV2020 3:34  Surely He scorns the scorners, but He gives grace to the lowly.
Prov AFV2020 3:35  The wise shall inherit glory, but shame shall be the promotion of fools.
Chapter 4
Prov AFV2020 4:1  O children, hear the instruction of a father, and be attentive in order to know understanding,
Prov AFV2020 4:2  For I give you good doctrine; do not forsake my law,
Prov AFV2020 4:3  For I was my father's son, tender and the only beloved in the sight of my mother.
Prov AFV2020 4:4  He also taught me, and said to me, "Let your heart hold fast my words; keep my commandments and live.
Prov AFV2020 4:5  Get wisdom; get understanding; forget it not, nor turn away from the words of my mouth.
Prov AFV2020 4:6  Do not forsake her, and she shall keep you; love her, and she shall preserve you.
Prov AFV2020 4:7  Wisdom is the principal thing; get wisdom; and with all your getting get understanding.
Prov AFV2020 4:8  Exalt her, and she shall promote you; she shall bring you honor when you embrace her.
Prov AFV2020 4:9  She shall place upon your head a garland of grace; she shall bestow upon you a crown of glory."
Prov AFV2020 4:10  Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of your life shall be many.
Prov AFV2020 4:11  I have taught you in the way of wisdom; I have led you in the right paths.
Prov AFV2020 4:12  When you go, your steps shall not be hampered, and when you run, you shall not stumble.
Prov AFV2020 4:13  Keep hold of instruction; do not let go; keep her, for she is your life.
Prov AFV2020 4:14  Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not into the way of evil men.
Prov AFV2020 4:15  Avoid it; do not go in it; turn from it, and pass on!
Prov AFV2020 4:16  For they do not sleep except when they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away unless they cause some to fall,
Prov AFV2020 4:17  For they eat the bread of wickedness and drink the wine of violence.
Prov AFV2020 4:18  But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shines more and more to the perfect day.
Prov AFV2020 4:19  The way of the wicked is as darkness; they know not at what they stumble.
Prov AFV2020 4:20  My son, attend to my words; incline your ear to my sayings.
Prov AFV2020 4:21  Let them not depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart,
Prov AFV2020 4:22  For they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh.
Prov AFV2020 4:23  Above all guard the door of your mind with diligence, for out of it are the issues of life.
Prov AFV2020 4:24  Put away from you a deceitful mouth, and devious lips put far from you.
Prov AFV2020 4:25  Let your eyes look right on, and let your eyelids look straight before you.
Prov AFV2020 4:26  Ponder the path of your feet, and all your ways will be established.
Prov AFV2020 4:27  Do not turn to the right hand nor to the left; remove your foot from evil.
Chapter 5
Prov AFV2020 5:1  My son, attend to my wisdom; bow your ear to my understanding;
Prov AFV2020 5:2  That you may keep discretion, and that your lips may keep knowledge.
Prov AFV2020 5:3  For the lips of a wanton woman drip as a honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil;
Prov AFV2020 5:4  But her end is as bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.
Prov AFV2020 5:5  Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on the grave.
Prov AFV2020 5:6  She does not ponder the path of life; her ways are unstable—you cannot know them.
Prov AFV2020 5:7  Now therefore hear me, O you children, and do not depart from the words of my mouth.
Prov AFV2020 5:8  Remove your ways far from her, and do not come near the door of her house,
Prov AFV2020 5:9  Lest you give your honor unto others and your years unto the cruel;
Prov AFV2020 5:10  Lest strangers be filled with your wealth, and your labors be in the house of a stranger;
Prov AFV2020 5:11  And you moan when your end comes, when your flesh and your body are consumed,
Prov AFV2020 5:12  And say, "How I hated instruction, and my heart despised correction;
Prov AFV2020 5:13  And I have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined my ears to those who taught me!
Prov AFV2020 5:14  I was almost in utter ruin in the midst of the congregation and assembly."
Prov AFV2020 5:15  Drink waters out of your own cistern and running waters out of your own well.
Prov AFV2020 5:16  Let your fountains be dispersed abroad as rivers of waters in the streets.
Prov AFV2020 5:17  Let them be only your own, and not strangers' with you.
Prov AFV2020 5:18  Let your fountain be blessed, and rejoice with the wife of your youth.
Prov AFV2020 5:19  Let her be as the loving deer and pleasant doe, let her breasts satisfy you at all times, and be ravished always with her love.
Prov AFV2020 5:20  For why will you, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?
Prov AFV2020 5:21  For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and He ponders all his paths.
Prov AFV2020 5:22  His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be held with the cords of his sins.
Prov AFV2020 5:23  He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall breathe his last.
Chapter 6
Prov AFV2020 6:1  My son, if you are surety for your friend, if you have struck your hands in a pledge with a stranger,
Prov AFV2020 6:2  You are snared with the words of your mouth, and you are caught with the words of your mouth—
Prov AFV2020 6:3  Then my son, do this now, and deliver yourself when you have come into the hand of your friend: go, humble yourself and make your friend sure.
Prov AFV2020 6:4  Do not give sleep to your eyes or slumber to your eyelids.
Prov AFV2020 6:5  Deliver yourself as a gazelle from the hunter's hand, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.
Prov AFV2020 6:6  Go to the ant, sluggard; consider her ways and be wise,
Prov AFV2020 6:8  Provides her food in the summer and gathers her food in the harvest.
Prov AFV2020 6:9  How long will you sleep, O sluggard? When will you arise out of your sleep?
Prov AFV2020 6:10  Yet, a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest;
Prov AFV2020 6:11  So shall your poverty come as one who travels, and your want like an armed man.
Prov AFV2020 6:12  A worthless person, a wicked man, walks with a perverse mouth,
Prov AFV2020 6:13  Winking with his eyes, speaking with his feet, pointing with his fingers;
Prov AFV2020 6:14  Perversity is in his heart; he is always planning mischief; he causes discord.
Prov AFV2020 6:15  Therefore his calamity shall come suddenly; instantly he shall be broken without remedy.
Prov AFV2020 6:16  These six things the LORD hates; yea, seven are an abomination unto Him:
Prov AFV2020 6:17  A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
Prov AFV2020 6:18  A heart that plots wicked imaginations, feet that are swift in running to evil,
Prov AFV2020 6:19  A false witness who speaks lies, and he who sows discord among brethren.
Prov AFV2020 6:20  My son, keep your father's commandments, and do not forsake the instruction of your mother;
Prov AFV2020 6:21  Bind them continually upon your heart; tie them around your neck.
Prov AFV2020 6:22  When you go, they shall lead you; when you sleep, they shall keep you; and when you awake, they shall talk with you.
Prov AFV2020 6:23  For the commandment is a lamp, and the law is light, and reproofs of instruction are the way of life
Prov AFV2020 6:24  To keep you from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.
Prov AFV2020 6:25  Do not lust after her beauty in your heart; nor let her seduce you with her eyelids
Prov AFV2020 6:26  For by means of a harlot a man is vanquished to a piece of bread; and the adulteress will hunt for the precious life.
Prov AFV2020 6:27  Can a man take fire to his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?
Prov AFV2020 6:28  Can one walk upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?
Prov AFV2020 6:29  So is he who goes in to his neighbor's wife; whoever touches her shall not be innocent.
Prov AFV2020 6:30  They do not despise a thief if he steals to satisfy his soul when he is hungry;
Prov AFV2020 6:31  Yet if he is found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the goods of his house.
Prov AFV2020 6:32  But whoever commits adultery with a woman lacks understanding; he who does it destroys his own soul.
Prov AFV2020 6:33  He shall get a wound and dishonor; and his shame shall not be wiped away;
Prov AFV2020 6:34  For jealousy is the rage of a man; therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.
Prov AFV2020 6:35  He will not accept any recompense, nor will he be willing even if you multiply the gifts for him.
Chapter 7
Prov AFV2020 7:1  My son, keep my words and store up my commandments within you.
Prov AFV2020 7:2  Keep my commandments and live; and keep my law as the apple of your eye.
Prov AFV2020 7:3  Bind them upon your fingers; write them upon the tablet of your heart.
Prov AFV2020 7:4  Say to wisdom, "You are my sister;" and call understanding your kinsman,
Prov AFV2020 7:5  So that they may keep you from the wanton woman, from the stranger who flatters with her words.
Prov AFV2020 7:6  For at the window of my house I looked through my lattice,
Prov AFV2020 7:7  And I saw among the simple ones, among the youths, a young man with no understanding,
Prov AFV2020 7:8  Passing through the street near her corner. And he went the way to her house
Prov AFV2020 7:9  In the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night.
Prov AFV2020 7:10  And, behold, there a woman met him, with the attire of a harlot and a wily heart.
Prov AFV2020 7:11  She is loud and stubborn; her feet do not stay in her house;
Prov AFV2020 7:12  Now she is outside, now in the streets, and lies in wait at every corner.
Prov AFV2020 7:13  And she caught him and kissed him, and with an impudent face she said to him,
Prov AFV2020 7:14  "I have peace offerings with me; today I have paid my vows.
Prov AFV2020 7:15  Therefore I came out to meet you, earnestly to seek your face, and I have found you.
Prov AFV2020 7:16  I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with fine linen of Egypt.
Prov AFV2020 7:17  I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.
Prov AFV2020 7:18  Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning; let us delight ourselves with caresses,
Prov AFV2020 7:19  For my husband is not at home; he has gone on a long journey.
Prov AFV2020 7:20  He has taken a bag of silver with him and will come home on the day of the full moon."
Prov AFV2020 7:21  With much alluring, seductive speech she caused him to yield; with the flattering of her lips she induced him.
Prov AFV2020 7:22  He goes after her immediately, like an ox goes to the slaughter, or like a fool to the correction of the stocks
Prov AFV2020 7:23  Until a dart strikes through his liver; as a bird hastens to the snare and does not know that it will cost him his life.
Prov AFV2020 7:24  Hearken unto me now therefore, O you children, and attend to the words of my mouth.
Prov AFV2020 7:25  Do not let your heart turn aside to her ways; do not go astray in her paths,
Prov AFV2020 7:26  For she has cast down many wounded; yea, many strong men have been slain by her.
Prov AFV2020 7:27  Her house is the way to the grave, going down to the chambers of death.
Chapter 8
Prov AFV2020 8:1  Does not wisdom call? And does not understanding put forth her voice?
Prov AFV2020 8:2  She stands in the top of high places, by the place where the paths meet.
Prov AFV2020 8:3  She cries in the gates, at the entrance of the city, at the doors:
Prov AFV2020 8:4  "To you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of men.
Prov AFV2020 8:5  O you simple ones, understand wisdom; and, you fools, be of an understanding heart.
Prov AFV2020 8:6  Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things,
Prov AFV2020 8:7  For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips.
Prov AFV2020 8:8  All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing twisted or perverse in them.
Prov AFV2020 8:9  They are all plain to him who understands, and right to those who find knowledge.
Prov AFV2020 8:10  Receive my instruction and not silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold,
Prov AFV2020 8:11  For wisdom is better than rubies, and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.
Prov AFV2020 8:12  I, wisdom, dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge and discretion.
Prov AFV2020 8:13  The fear of the LORD is to hate evil; I hate pride, and arrogance, and the evil way, and the perverse mouth.
Prov AFV2020 8:14  Counsel and sound wisdom are mine; I am understanding; I have strength.
Prov AFV2020 8:16  Princes rule by me, and nobles, and all the judges of the earth.
Prov AFV2020 8:17  I love those who love me; and those who seek me early shall find me.
Prov AFV2020 8:18  Riches and honor are with me; yea, enduring riches and righteousness.
Prov AFV2020 8:19  My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold; and what I give is better than choice silver.
Prov AFV2020 8:20  I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of justice,
Prov AFV2020 8:21  That I may cause those who love me to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasuries.
Prov AFV2020 8:22  The LORD possessed me in the beginning of His way, before His works of old.
Prov AFV2020 8:23  I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, before the earth ever was.
Prov AFV2020 8:24  When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water.
Prov AFV2020 8:25  Before the mountains were settled, before the hills, I was brought forth.
Prov AFV2020 8:26  Before He had made the earth, or the fields, or the highest part of the dust of the world,
Prov AFV2020 8:27  When He prepared the heavens, I was there; when He set a circle upon the face of the deep;
Prov AFV2020 8:28  When He established the clouds above, when He established the fountains of the deep,
Prov AFV2020 8:29  When He gave to the sea its limit that the waters should not pass His command, when He appointed the foundations of the earth,
Prov AFV2020 8:30  Even I was with Him as a master workman; and I was daily His delight, rejoicing always before Him,
Prov AFV2020 8:31  Rejoicing in the habitable world, His earth; and my delight was with the sons of men.
Prov AFV2020 8:32  And now therefore hearken unto me, O you children, for blessed are those who keep my ways.
Prov AFV2020 8:33  Hear instruction, and be wise, and do not refuse it.
Prov AFV2020 8:34  Blessed is the man who hears me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors,
Prov AFV2020 8:35  For whoever finds me finds life and shall obtain favor from the LORD.
Prov AFV2020 8:36  But he who sins against me wrongs his own soul; all who hate me love death."
Chapter 9
Prov AFV2020 9:1  Wisdom has built her house; she has carved out her seven pillars;
Prov AFV2020 9:2  She has prepared her meat; she has mixed her wine; she has also furnished her table.
Prov AFV2020 9:3  She has sent out her young women; she cries upon the highest places of the city,
Prov AFV2020 9:4  "Whoever is simple, let him turn in here." As for the one who lacks understanding, she says to him,
Prov AFV2020 9:5  "Come, eat of my bread and drink of the wine I have mixed.
Prov AFV2020 9:6  Forsake the foolish and live; and go in the way of understanding.
Prov AFV2020 9:7  The one who rebukes a scorner gets shame to himself; and the one who rebukes a wicked one gets himself an insult.
Prov AFV2020 9:8  Do not reprove a scorner, lest he hate you; give rebuke to a wise man, and he will love you.
