Chapter 1

1:1  Blessed is the man who has not walked in the counsel of the ungodly, and has not stood in the way of sinners, and has not sat in the seat of the scornful.

1:2  But his delight is only in the law of the LORD; and in His law he meditates day and night.

1:3  And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivulets of water that brings forth its fruit in its seasons, and its leaf shall not wither, and all which he does shall be blessed.

1:4  The wicked are not so, but are like chaff which the wind drives away.

1:5  Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

1:6  For the LORD knows the way of the righteous; but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

Chapter 2

2:1  Why do the nations rage, and the peoples meditate on a vain thing?

2:2  The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers plot together, against the LORD and against His anointed, saying,

2:3  Let us break their bands in two and cast away their cords from us.

2:4  He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; the LORD shall mock at them.

2:5  Then He shall speak to them in His anger, and trouble them in His wrath.

2:6  Yea, I have set My king on My holy hill, on Zion.

2:7  I will declare the decree of the LORD. He has said to Me, You are My Son; today I have begotten You.

2:8  Ask of Me, and I shall give the nations for Your inheritance; and the uttermost parts of the earth for Your possession.

2:9  You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.

2:10  And now be wise, O kings; be instructed, O judges of the earth.

2:11  Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.

2:12  Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, and you perish from the way, when His wrath is kindled in but a little time. Blessed are all who put their trust in Him.

Chapter 3

3:1  A Psalm of David, when he fled from his son Absalom. O Lord, how my foes have increased! Many are the ones who rise up against me.

3:2  Many are saying of my soul, There is no deliverance for him in God. Selah.

3:3  But You, O LORD, are a shield for me; my glory, the One who lifts up my head.

3:4  I cried to the LORD with my voice, and He heard me out of His holy hill. Selah.

3:5  I laid down and slept. I awoke, for the LORD kept me.

3:6  I am not afraid of ten thousands of people who have set against me all around.

3:7  Arise, O LORD; save me, O my God; for You have struck all my enemies on the cheekbone. You have broken the teeth of the ungodly.

3:8  Salvation belongs to the LORD. Your blessing is on Your people. Selah.

Chapter 4

4:1  To the Chief Musician, for stringed instruments. A Psalm of David. Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness; You gave room to me in trouble; have mercy on me, and hear my prayer.

4:2  O sons of men, how long will you turn My glory into shame? Will you love vanity and seek after a lie? Selah.

4:3  But know that the LORD has set apart the godly for Himself. The LORD hears when I call to Him.

4:4  Tremble, and sin not; speak within your own heart on your bed and be still. Selah.

4:5  Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and trust in the LORD.

4:6  There are many who say, Who will show us any good? LORD, lift up the light of Your face on us.

4:7  You have put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their grain and their wine increased.

4:8  I will lie down, both in peace and in sleep. For You alone, LORD, make me dwell in safety.

Chapter 5

5:1  To the Chief Musician, for flutes. A Psalm of David. Give ear to my words, O LORD; consider my meditation.

5:2  Listen to the voice of my cry, my King and my God; for to You I will pray.

5:3  My voice You shall hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning I will direct my prayer to You, and I will look up.

5:4  For You are not a God that enjoys wickedness; nor shall evil dwell with You.

5:5  The foolish shall not stand in Your sight. You hate all doers of iniquity.

5:6  You shall destroy those who speak lies; the LORD will despise the bloody and deceitful man.

5:7  But I, in the abundance of Your grace, I will come into Your house; I will worship in Your fear toward Your holy temple.

5:8  Lead me, O LORD, in Your righteousness, because of my enemies; make Your way straight before my face.

5:9  For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is wickedness; their throat is an open grave; they flatter with their tongue.

5:10  Hold them guilty, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions, for they have rebelled against You.

5:11  But let all who put their trust in You rejoice; let them always shout for joy, because You defend them. And let those who love Your name be joyful in You.

5:12  For You; O LORD, will bless the righteous; with favor You will surround him as with a shield.

Chapter 6

6:1  To the Chief Musician, for eight-stringed instruments. A Psalm of David. O LORD, rebuke me not in Your anger, nor chasten me in the heat of Your fury.

6:2  Have mercy on me, O LORD, for I am weak; O LORD, heal me, for my bones are troubled.

6:3  My soul also is exceedingly troubled; but You, O LORD, how long?

6:4  Return, O LORD, return; deliver my soul; save me for Your mercy's sake.

6:5  For in death there is no memory of You; in the grave who shall give You thanks?

6:6  I am weary in my groaning; all the night I make my bed swim; I melt my couch with my tears.

6:7  My eye is dim because of grief; it wastes away because of all my enemies.

6:8  Depart from me, all workers of iniquity; for the LORD has heard the voice of my weeping.

6:9  The LORD has heard my cry; the LORD will receive my prayer.

6:10  Let all my enemies be ashamed and exceedingly troubled; let them turn back and be ashamed in a moment.

Chapter 7

7:1  A song of David, which he sang to the LORD, concerning the words of Cush the Benjamite. O LORD my God, in You I put my trust; save me from all who pursue me, and deliver me,

7:2  lest he tear my soul like a lion, tearing it in pieces, and there is no one to deliver.

7:3  O LORD my God, if I have done this; if there is iniquity in my hands;

7:4  if I have rewarded evil to my friend, or if I have delivered my vexer without cause;

7:5  let the enemy persecute my soul and take it; yea, let him trample down my life on the earth and lay my honor in the dust. Selah.

7:6  Arise, O LORD, in Your anger; lift up Yourself because of the rage of my enemies, and awake for me to the judgment which You have commanded.

7:7  And the congregation of the peoples shall surround You; and over it You will return on high.

7:8  The LORD shall judge the people; judge me, O LORD, according to my righteousness, and according to my integrity on me.

7:9  O let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end, but establish the just. For the righteous God tries the minds and hearts.

7:10  My defense is from God, who saves the upright in heart.

7:11  God judges the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day.

7:12  If he does not turn, He will whet His sword; He has bent His bow and made it ready.

7:13  Yea, He has fitted for him instruments of death; He will make ready His arrows hotly pursue.

7:14  Behold, he labors in pain with iniquity, and he has conceived mischief, and has brought forth falsehood.

7:15  He dug a pit and bored it, and has fallen into the ditch which he made.

7:16  His mischief shall return on his own head, and his violence shall come on his own crown.

7:17  I will praise the LORD according to His righteousness, and will sing praise to the name of the LORD most high.

Chapter 8

8:1  To the Chief Musician, on the harp. A Psalm of David. O Jehovah our Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth! You have set Your glory above the heavens!

8:2  Out of the mouths of babes and sucklings You have ordained strength, because of Your tormentors, to cause the enemy and the avenger to cease.

8:3  When I look at Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars which You have established;

8:4  what is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man, that You visit him?

8:5  For You have made him a little lower than the angels, and have crowned him with glory and honor.

8:6  You made him rule over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet:

8:7  all sheep and oxen, yes, and the beasts of the field;

8:8  the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, and all that pass through the paths of the seas.

8:9  O Jehovah, our Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth!

Chapter 9

9:1  To the Chief Musician. To die for the Son. A Psalm of David. I will praise You, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will tell of all Your marvelous works.

9:2  I will be glad and rejoice in You; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High.

9:3  When my enemies have turned back, they shall fall and perish before You.

9:4  For You have maintained my right and my cause; You sat in the throne judging right.

9:5  You have rebuked the heathen, You have destroyed the wicked, You have put out their name forever and ever.

9:6  The desolations of the enemy have come to an end forever, and You have destroyed the cities; their memorial has perished with them.

9:7  But the LORD shall endure forever; He has prepared His throne for judgment.

9:8  And He shall judge the world in righteousness; He shall judge the peoples in uprightness.

9:9  The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.

9:10  And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; for You, LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You.

9:11  Sing praises to the LORD, who dwells in Zion; declare among the nations His deeds.

9:12  For He remembers them, the seekers of bloodshed; He forgets not the cry of the humble.

9:13  Have mercy on me, O LORD; see my trouble from those who hate me, You who lift me up from the gates of death,

9:14  so that I may declare all Your praise in the gates of the daughter of Zion; I will rejoice in Your salvation.

9:15  The nations have sunk down in the pit that they made; their foot is caught in the net which they hid.

9:16  The LORD is known. He has executed judgment; the wicked is snared in the work of his own hands. A meditation. Selah.

9:17  The wicked shall be turned into hell, all the nations that forget God.

9:18  For the needy shall not always be forgotten; the hope of the poor shall not perish forever.

9:19  Arise, O LORD; let not man be strong. Let the nations be judged in Your sight.

9:20  Put them in fear, O LORD, let the nations know they are but men. Selah.

Chapter 10

10:1  Why do You stand afar off, O LORD? Will You hide in times of trouble?

10:2  The wicked in his pride persecutes the poor; let them be taken in the plans that they have imagined.

10:3  For the wicked boasts of his heart's desire, and blesses the covetous whom the LORD despises.

10:4  Through the pride of his face the wicked will not seek Him; There is no God in all his schemes.

10:5  His ways are always perverted; Your judgments are high, out of his sight. As for all his enemies, he puffs at them.

10:6  He has said in his heart, I shall not be moved; from generation to generation, never in evil!

10:7  His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud; under his tongue are mischief and vanity.

10:8  He sits in the hiding-places of the villages; in the secret places he murders the innocent. His eyes are secretly set against the poor.

10:9  He lies in wait secretly, like a lion in his den. He lies in wait to catch the poor; he catches the poor when he draws him into his net.

10:10  He crouches and bows, and the poor have fallen by his might.

10:11  He has said in his heart, God has forgotten; He hides His face; He will not see forever!

10:12  Arise, O LORD; O God, lift up Your hand; forget not the humble.

10:13  Why do the wicked condemn God? He has said in his heart, You will not judge.

10:14  You have seen it; for You behold mischief and vexation, to repay it with Your hand. The poor commits himself to You; You are the Helper of the fatherless.

10:15  Break the arm of the wicked and the evil one; seek out his wickedness, until You find none.

10:16  The LORD is King forever and ever; the nations have perished out of His land.

10:17  LORD, You have heard the desire of the humble; You will prepare their heart, You will cause Your ear to hear,

10:18  to judge the fatherless and the oppressed, so that the man of the earth may no more terrify.

Chapter 11

11:1  To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. I put my trust in the LORD; how can you say to me, Flee like a bird to the mountains;

11:2  for lo, the wicked bend their bow; they make ready their arrow on the string, so that they may secretly shoot at the upright in heart.

11:3  If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?

11:4  The LORD is in His holy temple; the LORD's throne is in Heaven; His eyes behold, His eyelids examine the children of men.

11:5  The LORD tries the righteous; but His soul hates the wicked and the one who loves violence,

11:6  On the wicked He shall rain snares, fire and brimstone; and a horrible tempest shall be the portion of their cup.

11:7  For the righteous LORD loves righteousness; His face looks on the upright.

Chapter 12

12:1  To the Chief Musician, on eight. A Psalm of David. Help, LORD, for the godly man ceases; for the faithful fail from among the sons of men.

12:2  They speak vanity each one with his neighbor; with flattering lips and a double heart they speak.

12:3  The LORD shall cut off all flattering lips, the tongue that speaks proud things,

12:4  that has said, With our tongue we shall do much; our lips are our own; who is lord over us?

12:5  For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, I will now arise, says the LORD. I will set in safety, he pants for it.

12:6  The words of the LORD are pure words, like silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.

12:7  You shall keep them, O LORD, You shall preserve them from this generation forever.

12:8  The wicked walk on every side, when vileness is praised by the sons of men.

Chapter 13

13:1  To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. How long will You forget me, O LORD? Forever? How long will You hide Your face from me?

13:2  How long shall I take counsel in my heart having sorrow in my heart daily? How long shall my enemy be lifted up over me?

13:3  Look! Answer me, O LORD my God; enlighten my eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death,

13:4  lest my enemy say, I have overcome him, and my foes rejoice when I am shaken.

13:5  But I have trusted in Your mercy; my heart shall rejoice in Your salvation.

13:6  I will sing to the LORD, because He has rewarded me.

Chapter 14

14:1  To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. The fool has said in his heart, There is no God! They acted corruptly; they have done abominable works, there is none who does good.

14:2  The LORD looked down from Heaven on the sons of men, to see if there were any who understood and sought God.

14:3  All have gone aside, together they are filthy; there is none who does good, no, not one.

14:4  Have all the workers of iniquity not known, eating up My people as they eat bread? They have not called on the LORD.

14:5  There they were in great fear; for God is in the generation of the righteous.

14:6  You have shamed the counsel of the poor, because the LORD is his refuge.

14:7  Who will bring the salvation of Israel out of Zion? When the LORD brings back the captivity of His people, Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad.

Chapter 15

15:1  A Psalm of David. LORD, who shall dwell in Your tabernacle? Who shall dwell on Your holy hill?

15:2  He who walks uprightly, and works righteousness, and speaks the truth in his heart;

15:3  he does not backbite with his tongue, nor do evil to his neighbor, nor take up a reproach against his neighbor;

15:4  in whose eyes the reprobate is despised, but he honors those who fear the LORD; he has sworn to his hurt, and does not change it;

15:5  he has not put out his money at interest, nor has he taken a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things shall not be moved forever.

Chapter 16

16:1  A Secret Treasure of David. Watch over me, O God; for in You do I put my trust.

16:2  Oh my soul, you have said to the LORD, You are my Lord; I have no goodness apart from You.

16:3  As to the saints in the earth, they are the excellent, in whom is all my delight.

16:4  Their sorrows shall be multiplied who run after another god. I will not pour out their drink offerings of blood; and I will not take their names on my lips.

16:5  The LORD is the portion of my inheritance, and of my cup; You shall uphold my lot.

16:6  The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; yea, I have a beautiful inheritance.

16:7  I will bless the LORD, who has given me wisdom; my heart also instructs me in the nights.

16:8  I have set the LORD always before Me; because He is at My right hand, I shall not be moved.

16:9  Therefore My heart is glad, and My glory rejoices; My flesh also shall rest in hope;

16:10  For You will not leave My soul in hell; You will not allow Your Holy One to see corruption.

16:11  You will make Me know the way of life; in Your presence is fullness of joys. At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Chapter 17

17:1  A Prayer of David. Hear the right, O LORD; listen to my cry; Give ear to my prayer, for it is not in lips of deceit.

17:2  Let my judgment go out from Your presence; let Your eyes behold uprightly.

17:3  You have proved my heart; You have visited me in the night; You have tried me, and You will find nothing; my thoughts do not pass beyond my mouth.

17:4  Concerning the works of men, by the words of Your lips, I am kept from the paths of the destroyer.

17:5  My steps have been held in Your paths, so that my footsteps have not slipped.

17:6  I have called on You, for You will hear me, O God; bow down Your ear to me; hear my speech.

17:7  Set our Your wonderful loving-kindness, O Savior of those seeking refuge in You, by Your right hand, from those who rise up against me.

17:8  Keep me as the pupil, the daughter of the eye; hide me under the shadow of Your wings,

17:9  from the face of the wicked who strip me. Those against my soul, My foes, encircle me.

17:10  They are enclosed in their own fat; with their mouth they speak proudly,

17:11  They have now hemmed in our steps. They have set their eyes to bow me to the earth,

17:12  Their likeness is like a lion that longs to tear, and like a young lion lurking in secret places.

17:13  Arise, O LORD, disappoint him, bow him down; deliver my soul from the wicked by Your sword,

17:14  from men by Your hand, O LORD, from men of the world whose portion is in this life, and whose belly You fill with Your treasure. They are satisfied with sons, and will leave their riches to their babes.

17:15  As for me, I will behold Your face in righteousness; when I awake, I shall be satisfied with Your image.

Chapter 18

18:1  To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David, the servant of the LORD, who spoke to the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul; and he said: I love You, O LORD, my strength.

18:2  The LORD is my strength, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my rock; I will trust in Him; He is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower.

18:3  I will call on the LORD, who is worthy to be praised; so shall I be saved from my enemies.

18:4  The sorrows of death hemmed me in, and the floods of ungodly men made me afraid.

18:5  The sorrows of hell surrounded me; the snares of death confronted me.

18:6  In my distress I called on the LORD, and I cried to my God; He heard my voice out of His temple, and my cry came before Him, into His ears.

18:7  Then the earth shook and trembled; and the foundations of the hills moved and were shaken, because He was angry.

18:8  A smoke went up out of His nostrils, and fire devoured out of His mouth; coals were kindled by it.

18:9  And He bowed the heavens and came down, and darkness was under His feet.

18:10  And He rode on a cherub, and flew; yea, He soared on the wings of the wind.

18:11  He made darkness His secret place, His pavilion around Him, darkness of waters, thick clouds of the skies.

18:12  At the brightness before Him, His dark clouds passed through, hailstones and coals of fire passed.

18:13  The LORD also thundered in the heavens, and the Highest gave forth His voice; hailstones and coals of fire.

18:14  Yea, He sent out His arrows and scattered them; and He shot out lightnings and crushed them.

18:15  Then the channels of waters were seen, and the foundations of the world were uncovered, at Your rebuke, O LORD, at the blast of the breath of Your nostrils.

18:16  He sent from above, He took me, He drew me out of many waters.

18:17  He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from those who hated me; for they were too strong for me.

18:18  They went before me in the day of my calamity; but the LORD was my stay.

18:19  He brought me forth also into a large place; He delivered me because He delighted in me.

18:20  The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands He has repaid me.

18:21  For I have kept the ways of the LORD, and have not wickedly departed from my God.

18:22  For all His judgments were before me, and I did not put away His statutes from me.

18:23  I was also upright before Him, and I kept myself from my iniquity.

18:24  And the LORD has returned to me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in His eyes.

18:25  With the merciful, You will show Yourself merciful; with an upright man You will show Yourself upright;

18:26  with the pure You will show Yourself pure; and with the crooked You will show Yourself perverse.

18:27  For You will save the afflicted people, but will bring down high looks.

18:28  For You will light my candle; the LORD my God will make my darkness light.

18:29  For by You I have run through a troop; and by my God I have leaped over a wall.

18:30  As for God, His way is perfect; the word of the LORD is tried; He is a shield to all those who trust in Him.

18:31  For who is God besides Jehovah? Or, who is a Rock except our God?

18:32  It is God who girds me with strength and makes my way perfect.

18:33  He makes my feet like hinds' feet, and sets me on my high places.

18:34  He teaches my hands to war, so that a bow of bronze is bent by my arms.

18:35  You have also given me the shield of Your salvation; and Your right hand has held me up, and Your gentleness has made me great.

18:36  You have given a wide place for my steps under me, so that my feet have not slipped.

18:37  I have pursued my enemies and overtaken them; nor did I turn again until they were destroyed.

18:38  I have shattered them, and they cannot rise again; they have fallen under my feet.

18:39  For You have girded me with strength for the battle; You have humbled under me those who rose up against me.

18:40  You have also given me the neck of my enemies; so that I might destroy those who hate me.

18:41  They cried, but there was none to save; even to the LORD, but He did not answer them.

18:42  Then I beat them small as the dust before the wind; I cast them out like the dirt in the streets.

18:43  You have delivered Me from the strivings of the people; You have made Me the head of the nations; a people whom I have not known shall serve Me.

18:44  As soon as they hear of Me, they shall obey Me; the sons of strangers shall bow down to Me.

18:45  The sons of strangers shall fade away and be afraid out of their strongholds.

18:46  The LORD lives; and blessed be my rock, and let the God of my salvation be praised.

18:47  It is God who avenges me, and humbles the people under me.

18:48  He delivers me from my enemies; yea, You lift me up above those who rise up against me; You have delivered me from the violent man.

18:49  Therefore I will give thanks to You, O LORD, among the nations, and sing praises to Your name,

18:50  magnifying the salvations to His king, and working mercy to His anointed, to David, and to his seed forevermore.

Chapter 19

19:1  To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. The heavens declare the glory of God; and the expanse proclaims His handiwork.

19:2  Day by day they pour forth speech, and night to night reveals knowledge.

19:3  There is no speech nor are there words where their voice is not heard.

19:4  Their line has gone out through all the earth and their words to the end of the world. In them He has set a tabernacle for the sun,

19:5  and he comes forth as a bridegroom from his canopy; he rejoices as a strong man to run a race,

19:6  going forth from the end of the heavens, and its course is to their ends. And there is nothing hid from its heat.

19:7  The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making the simple wise.

19:8  The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandments of the LORD are pure, giving light to the eyes.

19:9  The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether,

19:10  more to be desired than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

19:11  And Your servant is warned by them; in keeping them there is great reward.

19:12  Who can understand his errors? Oh make me pure from secret faults;

19:13  and keep Your servant back from presumptuous sins; do not let them rule over me; then I shall be upright, and I shall be innocent of great transgression.

19:14  Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.

Chapter 20

20:1  To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. May the LORD hear you in the day of trouble, the name of the God of Jacob set you on high,

20:2  sending you help from the sanctuary, and upholding you out of Zion.

20:3  He will remember all your offerings, and accept your burnt sacrifice. Selah.

20:4  May He grant you according to your own heart, and fulfill all your plans.

20:5  We will rejoice in your salvation, and in the name of our God we will set up banners; may the LORD fulfill all your prayers.

20:6  Now I know that the LORD saves His anointed; He will hear him from His holy Heaven with the saving strengths of His right hand.

20:7  Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.

20:8  They have bowed down and fallen; but we have risen and stand upright.

20:9  Save, O LORD; let the King hear us when we call.

Chapter 21

21:1  To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. The king shall rejoice in Your strength, O LORD; and in Your salvation how greatly shall he rejoice!

21:2  You have given him his heart's desire, and have not withheld the prayer of his lips. Selah.

21:3  For You go before him with the blessings of goodness; You set a crown of pure gold on his head.

21:4  He asked life from You; You give to him length of days forever and ever.

21:5  His glory is great in Your salvation; honor and majesty You have laid on him.

21:6  For You have made him most blessed forever; You have rejoiced him in the gladness in Your holy face.

21:7  For the king trusts in the LORD, and in the mercy of the Most High; he shall not be moved.

21:8  Your hand shall find out all Your enemies; Your right hand shall find out those who hate You.

21:9  You shall make them as a fiery oven in the time of Your presence; the LORD will swallow them up in His wrath, and the fire shall devour them.

21:10  Their fruit shall You destroy from the earth, and their seed from among the sons of men.

21:11  For they intended evil against You; they imagined a wicked thing; they are not able to prevail.

21:12  For You shall make them turn the back; You shall make ready Your arrows on Your strings against their faces.

Chapter 22

22:1  To the Chief Musician, on the deer of the dawn. A Psalm of David. My God, my God, why have You forsaken me, and are far from my deliverance, and from the words of my groaning?

22:2  O my God, I cry in the daytime, but You do not answer; and in the night, and am not silent.

22:3  But You are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel.

22:4  Our fathers trusted in You; they trusted, and You delivered them.

22:5  They cried to You, and were delivered; they trusted in You, and were not ashamed.

22:6  But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised by the people.

22:7  All who see me laugh me to scorn; they shoot out the lip; they shake the head, saying,

22:8  He trusted on the LORD; let Him deliver him; let Him rescue him, since He delights in him!

22:9  For You are He who took me out of the womb, causing me to trust when I was on my mother's breasts.

22:10  I was cast on You from the womb; You are my God from my mother's belly.

22:11  Be not far from me; for trouble is near, for there is none to help.

22:12  Many bulls have circled around me; strong bulls of Bashan have surrounded me.

22:13  They opened wide their mouths on me, like a ripping and a roaring lion.

22:14  I am poured out like water, and all my bones are spread apart; my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels.

22:15  My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue clings to my jaws;

22:16  and You have brought me into the dust of death. For dogs have circled around me; the band of spoilers have hemmed me in, piercers of my hands and my feet.

22:17  I can count all my bones; they look and stare at me.

22:18  They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing.

22:19  But You, O LORD, be not far from me; O my strength, hurry to help me!

22:20  Deliver my soul from the sword, my only one from the dog's hand.

22:21  Save me from the lion's mouth; from the wild oxen's horns. You have answered me.

22:22  I will declare Your name to my brothers; in the midst of the congregation I will praise You.

22:23  You who fear the LORD, praise Him; all of you, the seed of Jacob, glorify Him; and fear Him all the seed of Israel.

22:24  For He has not despised nor hated the affliction of the afflicted; and He has not hidden His face from him, but when he cried to Him, He heard.

22:25  My praise shall be of You in the great congregation; I will pay my vows before the ones who fear Him.

22:26  The meek shall eat and be satisfied; those who seek the LORD shall praise Him; your heart shall live forever.

22:27  All the ends of the world shall remember and turn to the LORD; and all the families of the nations shall worship before You.

22:28  For the kingdom is the LORD's; and He is the ruler among the nations.

22:29  All the fat ones on the earth shall eat and worship; all those who go down to the dust shall bow before Him; and none can keep alive his own soul.

22:30  A seed shall serve Him; it shall be spoken of the LORD to the coming generation.

22:31  They shall come, and shall declare His righteousness to a people that shall yet be born, that He has done this.

Chapter 23

23:1  A Psalm of David. The LORD is my Shepherd; I shall not want.

23:2  He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.

23:3  He restores my soul; He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name's sake.

23:4  Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

23:5  You prepare a table for me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over.

23:6  Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

Chapter 24

24:1  A Psalm of David. The earth is the LORD's, and the fullness of it; the world, and those who dwell in it.

24:2  For He has founded it on the seas, and established it on the rivers.

24:3  Who shall go up into the hill of the LORD? Or who shall stand in His holy place?

24:4  He who has clean hands and a pure heart; who has not lifted up his soul to vanity, and has not sworn deceitfully.

24:5  He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.

24:6  This is the generation of those who seek Him, who seek Your face, O God of Jacob. Selah.

24:7  Lift up your heads, O gates; and be lifted up, O everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.

24:8  Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle.

24:9  Lift up your heads, O gates; even lift up, O everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.

24:10  Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, He is the King of glory. Selah.

Chapter 25

25:1  A Psalm of David. To You, O LORD, I lift up my soul.

25:2  O my God, I trust in You; do not let me be ashamed, let not my enemies triumph over me.

25:3  Yea, let none who wait on You be ashamed; let them be ashamed who sin without cause.

25:4  Make me know Your ways, O LORD; teach me Your paths.

25:5  Lead me in Your truth, and teach me; for You are the God of my salvation; on You I wait all the day long.

25:6  Remember, O LORD, Your tender mercies and Your loving-kindnesses; for they are from eternity.

25:7  Do not remember the sins of my youth, or my rebellings; according to Your mercy remember me for Your goodness' sake, O LORD.

25:8  Good and upright is the LORD; therefore He will teach sinners in the way.

25:9  The meek He will guide in judgment; and the meek He will teach His way.

25:10  All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth to those who keep His covenant and His testimonies.

25:11  For Your name's sake, O LORD, pardon my iniquity; for it is great.

25:12  What man is he who fears the LORD? He shall teach him in the way that he shall choose.

25:13  His soul shall dwell at ease; and his seed shall inherit the earth.

25:14  The secret of the LORD is with those who fear Him; and He will show them His covenant.

25:15  My eyes are ever toward the LORD; for He shall pluck my feet out of the net.

25:16  Turn to me, and have mercy on me, for I am wasted and afflicted.

25:17  The troubles of my heart are enlarged; bring me out of my distresses.

25:18  Look on my affliction and my pain, and forgive all my sins.

25:19  Look on my enemies; for they are many; and they hate me with cruel hatred.

25:20  Keep my soul, and deliver me; let me not be ashamed, for I put my trust in You.

25:21  Let purity and uprightness keep me; for I wait on You.

25:22  Redeem Israel, O God, out of all his troubles.

Chapter 26

26:1  A Psalm of David. Judge me, O LORD; for I have walked in my truthfulness. I have trusted also in the LORD; I shall not slide.

26:2  Examine me, O LORD, and prove me; purify my heart and my mind.

26:3  For Your loving-kindness is before my eyes; and I have walked in Your truth.

26:4  I have not sat with lying men, neither will I go in with hypocrites.

26:5  I have hated the congregation of evil-doers, and will not sit with the wicked.

26:6  I will wash my hands in innocency; so I will go around Your altar, O LORD,

26:7  so that I may cry out with the voice of thanksgiving, and tell of all Your wonderful works.

26:8  LORD, I have loved the dwelling place of Your house, and the place where Your honor dwells.

26:9  Do not take away my soul with sinners, nor my life with bloody men

26:10  in whose hands is a plot, and their right hand is full of a bribe.

26:11  But I will walk in my truthfulness; redeem me and be merciful to me.

26:12  My foot stands in an even place; in the congregations I will bless the LORD.

Chapter 27

27:1  A Psalm of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

27:2  When the wicked, my enemies and my foes, came on me to eat my flesh, they stumbled and fell.

27:3  Though an army should camp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war should rise against me, in this I am trusting.

27:4  One thing I have desired from the LORD, that I will seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to pray in His temple.

27:5  For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His shelter, in the secrecy of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me up on a rock.

27:6  And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies, my encirclers; and I will offer sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle. I will sing; yea, I will sing praises to the LORD.

27:7  Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice; and have mercy on me, and answer me.

27:8  My heart says to You, Seek my face; Your face, O LORD, I will seek;

27:9  Hide not Your face from me. Turn not Your servant away in anger; You have been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.

27:10  When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up.

27:11  Teach me Your way, O LORD, and lead me in a plain path, because of my enemies.

27:12  Deliver me not over to the will of my enemies; for false witnesses have risen up against me, and he that breathes out cruelty.

27:13  I would have fainted unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.

27:14  Hope in the LORD; be of good courage, and He shall make your heart strong; yea, hope in the LORD.

Chapter 28

28:1  A Psalm of David. I will cry to You, O LORD; my Rock, do not be deaf to me, lest, if You be silent to me, I become like those who go down into the pit.

28:2  Hear the voice of my prayers, when I cry to You, when I lift up my hands toward Your Holy Place.

28:3  Draw me not away with the wicked, and with the workers of iniquity, who speak peace to their neighbors, yet evil is in their hearts.

28:4  Give them according to their deeds, and according to the wickedness of their practices, give them according to the work of their hands; give them what they deserve.

28:5  Because they do not pay attention to the works of the LORD and to the work of His hands, He shall destroy them and never build them up.

28:6  Blessed is the LORD, because He has heard the voice of my prayers.

28:7  The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in Him, and I am helped; therefore my heart greatly rejoices; and with my song I will praise Him.

28:8  The LORD is a strength to them, and He is the saving strength of His anointed.

28:9  Save Your people, and bless Your inheritance; feed them also, and lift them up forever.

Chapter 29

29:1  A Psalm of David. Give to the LORD, O you mighty, give to the LORD glory and strength.

29:2  Give to the LORD the glory due to His name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.

29:3  The voice of the LORD is on the waters; the God of glory thunders; the LORD is above many waters.

29:4  The voice of the LORD is in power, the voice of the LORD is in majesty.

29:5  The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars; yea, the LORD breaks the cedars of Lebanon.

29:6  He also makes them to skip like a calf, Lebanon and Sirion like a young wild ox.

29:7  The voice of the LORD goes through flames of fire.

29:8  The voice of the LORD shakes the wilderness; the LORD shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.

29:9  The voice of the LORD causes the does to calve, and uncovers the forests; and in His temple all of it is saying, Glory!

29:10  The LORD sits on the flood; yea, the LORD sits as King forever.

29:11  The LORD will give strength to His people; the LORD will bless His people with peace.

Chapter 30

30:1  A Psalm and Song at the dedication of the House of David. I will praise You, O LORD; for You have lifted me up, and have not allowed my foes to rejoice over me.

30:2  O LORD my God, I cried to You, and You have healed me.

30:3  O LORD, You have brought up my soul from the grave; You have kept me alive, so that I should not go down to the Pit.

30:4  Sing praises to the LORD, O you saints of His, and give thanks at the memory of His holiness.

30:5  For His anger is only a moment; in His favor is life. Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.

30:6  And in my blessedness I said, I shall never be moved.

30:7  O LORD, by Your favor You have made my mountain to stand strong; You hid Your face, and I was troubled.

30:8  I cried to You, O LORD; and I prayed to the LORD.

30:9  What profit is in my blood, in going down to the pit? Shall the dust praise You? Shall it tell of Your truth?

30:10  Hear, O LORD, and have mercy on me; LORD, be my helper.

30:11  You have turned my mourning into dancing for me; You have torn off my sackcloth, and have clothed me with gladness,

30:12  so that my glory may sing praise to You, and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to You forever.

Chapter 31

31:1  To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. In You, O LORD, I put my trust; let me never be ashamed; deliver me in Your righteousness.

31:2  Bow down Your ear to me; deliver me quickly; be my strong rock, a fortress to save me.

31:3  For You are my rock and my fortress; and for Your name's sake lead me and guide me.

31:4  Bring me out of the net that they hid for me, for You are my strength.

31:5  Into Your hand I commit my spirit; You have redeemed me, O LORD God of truth.

31:6  I have hated those who take heed to lying vanities; but I trust in the LORD.

31:7  I will be glad and rejoice in Your mercy; for You have looked on my affliction; You have known my soul in troubles;

31:8  and have not shut me up into the hand of the enemy; You have set my feet in a broad place.

31:9  Have mercy on me, O LORD, for I am in trouble; my eye has become old with grief, my soul and my belly.

31:10  For my life is ending with grief, and my years with sighing; my strength fails because of my iniquity, and my bones have wasted away.

31:11  I was a reproach among all my foes, but especially among my neighbors, and a fear to my friends; those who saw me outside fled from me.

31:12  I am forgotten as a dead man out of mind; I am like a broken vessel.

31:13  For I have heard the slander of many; fear is on every side; because of their plottings together against me, they planned to take away my life.

31:14  But I trusted in You, O LORD; I said, You are my God.

31:15  My times are in Your hand; deliver me from the hand of my enemies, and from those who persecute me.

31:16  Make Your face shine on Your servant; save me in Your mercy.

31:17  Let me not be ashamed, O LORD; for I have called on You; Let the wicked be ashamed; let them be silent in the grave.

31:18  Let the lying lips be put to silence; the lips which speak proudly against the righteous, with pride and scorn.

31:19  How great is Your goodness, which You have laid up for those who fear You; You have worked for those who trust in You before the sons of men!

31:20  You shall hide them in the secrecy of Your presence from the pride of man; You shall hide them in a shelter away from the strife of tongues.

31:21  Blessed is the LORD; for He has worked His mercy wondrously in a besieged city.

31:22  For I said in my haste, I am cut off from before Your eyes; surely You heard the voice of my cries, when I cried to You.

31:23  O love the LORD, all you saints of His; the LORD preserves the faithful, and plentifully rewards the proud doer.

31:24  Be strong, and He will make your heart stronger, all you who hope in the LORD.

Chapter 32

32:1  A Psalm of David. A Contemplation. Blessed is the man whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.

32:2  Blessed is the man to whom the LORD does not charge iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile.

32:3  When I kept silence, my bones became old through my roaring all the day long.

32:4  For by day and by night Your hand was heavy on me; my sap is turned into the droughts of summer. Selah.

32:5  I confessed my sin to You, and my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, I will confess my transgression to the LORD; and You forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah.

32:6  For this let every godly one pray to You, in a time when You may be found; surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come near him.

32:7  You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall circle me with songs of deliverance. Selah.

32:8  I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you, My eye shall be on you.

32:9  Be not like the horse, or like the mule, who have no understanding, whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, so that they do not come near you.

32:10  The wicked has many sorrows, but mercy embraces him who trusts in the LORD.

32:11  Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, you righteous; and shout for joy, all you upright in heart.

Chapter 33

33:1  Rejoice in the LORD, O righteous ones; praise is becoming for the upright.

33:2  Praise the LORD with lyre; sing to Him with a harp of ten strings.

33:3  Sing to Him a new song; play skillfully with shouts of joy.

33:4  For the word of the LORD is right; and all His works are in truth.

33:5  He loves righteousness and judgment; the earth is full of the mercy of the LORD.

33:6  By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth.

33:7  He gathered the waters of the sea like a heap, setting the depths in storehouses.

33:8  Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the people of the world stand in awe of Him.

33:9  For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood.

33:10  The LORD brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He breaks the plots of the people.

33:11  The counsel of the LORD stands forever, the thoughts of His heart to all generations.

33:12  Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; the people He has chosen for His inheritance.

33:13  The LORD looks down from Heaven; He beholds all the sons of mankind.

33:14  From His dwelling place He looks on all the people of the earth.

33:15  Together He forms their hearts; His understanding is to all their works.

33:16  The king is not saved by a great army; a mighty man is not delivered by much strength.

33:17  A horse is a vain thing for safety; neither shall he deliver by his great strength.

33:18  Behold, the eye of the LORD is to those who fear Him, on those who hope in His mercy;

33:19  to deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine.

33:20  Our soul waits for the LORD; He is our help and our shield.

33:21  For our heart shall rejoice in Him, because we trust in His holy name.

33:22  Let Your mercy, O LORD, be on us, according as we hope in You.

Chapter 34

34:1  A Psalm of David, when he changed his behavior before Abimelech; who drove him away, and he departed. I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise always shall be in my mouth.

34:2  My soul shall make its boast in the LORD; the humble shall hear and be glad.

34:3  O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt His name together.

34:4  I sought the LORD, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.

34:5  They looked to Him, and were filled with light; and their faces were not ashamed.

34:6  This poor man cried, and the LORD heard, and saved him out of all his troubles.

34:7  The Angel of the LORD camps round about those who fear Him, and delivers them.

34:8  Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who trusts in Him.

34:9  O fear the LORD, His holy ones; for there is nothing lacking to those who fear Him.

34:10  The young lions lack, and suffer hunger; but those who seek the LORD shall not lack any good thing.

34:11  Come, listen to me, my sons; I will teach you the fear of the LORD.

34:12  Who is the man that desires life, and loves days, that he may see good?

34:13  Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking guile.

34:14  Depart from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.

34:15  The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their cry.

34:16  The face of the LORD is against those who do evil, to cut off the memory of them from the earth.

34:17  The righteous cry, and the LORD hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles.

34:18  The LORD is near to the broken-hearted; and saves those who are of a contrite spirit.

34:19  Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him out of them all.

34:20  He keeps all his bones; not one of them is broken.

34:21  Evil shall slay the wicked; and those who hate the righteous shall be held guilty.

34:22  The LORD redeems the soul of His servants; and none of them who trust in Him shall be guilty.

Chapter 35

35:1  A Psalm of David. Strive, O LORD, with those who strive with me; fight against those who fight against me.

35:2  Take hold of a shield and buckler, and stand up for my help.

35:3  Also draw out the spear and the lance against those who pursue me; say to my soul, I am your salvation.

35:4  Let them be humbled and put to shame, those who seek after my soul; let them be turned back and be brought to blushing, those who plot evil to me.

35:5  Let them be as chaff before the wind; and let the Angel of the LORD drive them away.

35:6  Let their way be dark and slippery; and let the Angel of the LORD pursue them.

35:7  For without cause they have spread their net for me in a pit-net; without cause they have dug for my soul.

35:8  Let destruction come upon him, he will not know; and let his net which he has hidden concealed catch him, let him fall in it, into destruction.

35:9  And my soul shall be joyful in the LORD; it shall rejoice in His salvation.

35:10  All my bones shall say, O LORD, who is like You, who delivers the poor from those stronger than he; yea, the poor and the needy from him who plunders him?

35:11  Cruel witnesses rose up; they asked of me that which I never knew.

35:12  They rewarded me evil for good; bereaving my soul.

35:13  But when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth; I humbled my soul with fastings; and my prayer returned into my own bosom.

35:14  As a friend, as to my brother, I walked; as one who mourns for a mother, I was bowed down, mourning.

35:15  But in my stumbling they rejoiced, and gathered themselves; the defamers gathered themselves against me, and I knew not; they tore and were not silent,

35:16  with the hypocrites, mockers, for a cake, they gnashed on me with their teeth.

35:17  O LORD, how long will You look on? Rescue my soul from their ravages, my only one from the lions.

35:18  I will give You thanks in the great congregation; I will praise You among a mighty people.

35:19  Let not those who are my lying enemies rejoice over me, those who hate me without cause wink with the eye.

35:20  For they do not speak peace; but they think deceitful things against the quiet ones of the earth.

35:21  And they widen their mouths against me; they say, Aha, aha! Our eyes have seen.

35:22  You have seen, O LORD; do not keep silence; O LORD, do not be far from me.

35:23  Stir up Yourself and awaken to my judgment, to my cause, my God and my Lord.

35:24  Judge me, O LORD my God, according to Your righteousness; and do not let them rejoice over me.

35:25  Let them not say in their hearts, Aha! Our Soul! Let them not say, We have swallowed him up.

35:26  Let them be clothed with shame and dishonor together, those who magnify themselves over me.

35:27  Let those who delight in my justification shout and rejoice; and they shall say without ceasing, The Lord be magnified, delighting in the peace of His servant.

35:28  And my tongue shall speak of Your righteousness, of Your praise all the day long.

Chapter 36

36:1  To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David, the servant of the LORD. The oracle utters transgression to the wicked within my heart. There is no fear of God before his eyes.

36:2  For he flatters himself in his own eyes in order to find his iniquity, to hate it.

36:3  The words of his mouth are evil and deceit; he has stopped acting wise and doing good.

36:4  He plots evil on his bed; he sets himself in a way that is not good; he does not hate evil.

36:5  Your mercy, O LORD, is in the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.

36:6  Your righteousness is like the great mountains; Your judgments are a great deep; O LORD, You keep man and beast.

36:7  How precious is Your loving-kindness, O God! And the sons of men take refuge under the shadow of Your wing.

36:8  They shall be satisfied with the fatness of Your house; and You shall make them drink of the river of Your pleasures.

36:9  For with You is the fountain of life; in Your light we shall see light.

36:10  O continue Your loving-kindness to those who know You, and Your righteousness to the upright in heart.

36:11  Do not let the foot of pride come against me, and do not let the hand of the wicked move me.

36:12  There the evil-doers have fallen; they are cast down, and cannot rise.

Chapter 37

37:1  A Psalm of David. Do not fret yourself with evil doers; and do not be envious against the workers of iniquity.

37:2  For they shall soon wither like the grass; and fade as the green herb.

37:3  Trust in the LORD, and do good; you shall dwell in the land, and you shall be fed on truth.

37:4  Delight yourself also in the LORD, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.

37:5  Roll your way on the LORD; trust also in Him, and He will work.

37:6  And He shall bring forth your righteousness like the light, and your judgment like the noonday.

37:7  Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him; do not fret yourself because of him who prospers in his way, because of him who practices wickedness.

37:8  Cease from anger, and forsake wrath; do not fret yourself to do evil.

37:9  For evildoers shall be cut off; but those who wait on the LORD, they shall inherit the earth.

37:10  It is but a little while, and the wicked shall not be; yea, you shall search his place, and he shall not be.

37:11  But the meek shall inherit the earth, and shall delight themselves in the overflowing of peace.

37:12  The wicked plots against the just, and gnashes on him with his teeth.

37:13  The LORD laughs at him; for He sees that his day is coming.

37:14  The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, to kill those who walk uprightly.

37:15  Their sword shall enter into their own heart, and their bows shall be broken.

37:16  A little to the righteous is better than the riches of many wicked.

37:17  For the arms of the wicked shall be broken; but the LORD upholds the righteous.

37:18  The LORD knows the days of the upright, and their inheritance shall be forever.

37:19  They shall not be ashamed in the evil time; and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.

37:20  But the wicked shall pass, and the enemies of the LORD shall be like the beauty of pastures; they are consumed, like smoke they perish.

37:21  The wicked borrows, and never pays again; but the righteous shows mercy, and gives.

37:22  For His blessed ones shall inherit the earth; and those cursed by Him shall be cut off.

37:23  The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD; and He delights in his way.

37:24  Though he fall, he shall not be cast down; for the LORD upholds his hand.

37:25  I have been young, and am old; yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, or his seed begging bread.

37:26  All the day long he deals graciously, and lends; and his seed is blessed.

37:27  Depart from evil and do good; and live forevermore.

37:28  For the LORD loves judgment and does not forsake His saints; they are kept forever; but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.

37:29  The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell in it forever.

37:30  The mouth of the righteous speaks wisdom, and his tongue talks of judgment.

37:31  The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide.

37:32  The wicked watches the righteous, and seeks to kill him.

37:33  The LORD will not leave him in his hand, nor allow him to be found guilty when he is judged.

37:34  Wait on the LORD, and keep His way, and He shall lift you up to inherit the earth; when the wicked are cut off, you shall see it.

37:35  I have seen the wicked ruthless, and spreading himself like a luxuriant native tree.

37:36  Yet he passed away, and, lo, he was not; and I looked for him, but he could not be found.

37:37  Watch the perfect and behold the upright one; for the end of that man is peace.

37:38  But the sinners are destroyed together; the end of the wicked is cut off.

37:39  But the salvation of the righteous is from the LORD; He is their strength in the time of trouble.

37:40  And the LORD shall help them, and deliver them; He shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in Him.

Chapter 38

38:1  A Psalm of David, to bring to remembrance. O LORD, do not rebuke me in Your wrath; neither chasten me in Your fury.

38:2  For Your arrows stick fast in me, and Your hand presses heavily on me.

38:3  There is no soundness in my flesh because of Your anger; nor rest in my bones because of my sin.

38:4  For my iniquities have gone over my head; like a heavy burden they are too heavy for me.

38:5  My wounds have putrefied and rotted, because of my foolishness.

38:6  I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long.

38:7  For my loins are filled with a burning; and there is no soundness in my flesh.

38:8  I am feeble and painfully broken; I have roared because of the groanings of my heart.

38:9  My Lord, all my desire is before You; and my sighing is not hidden from You.

38:10  My heart pants; my strength fails me; as for the light of my eyes, it also is gone from me.

38:11  My lovers and my friends stand apart from my plague; and my neighbors stand far off.

38:12  And those who seek my life lay snares for me; and those who seek my hurt speak sly things, and utter deceits all the day long.

38:13  But like a deaf one, I do not hear; and I am like a dumb one who opens not his mouth.

38:14  And I am as a man who hears not, and in whose mouth are no reproofs.

38:15  For in You, O LORD, do I hope; You will hear, O LORD my God.

38:16  For I said, Hear me, lest they rejoice over me; when my foot slips, they magnify themselves against me.

38:17  For I am ready to fall, and my pain is always before me.

38:18  For I will declare my iniquity; I am anxious from my sin.

38:19  And my enemies are lively; they are strong; and my haters increase by deception.

38:20  And those who give evil for good oppose me, because I follow good.

38:21  Forsake me not, O LORD; O my God, be not far from me.

38:22  Make haste to help me, O my LORD, my salvation.

Chapter 39

39:1  To the Chief Musician, to Jeduthun. A Psalm of David. I said, I will take heed to my ways so that I do not sin with my tongue; I will keep my mouth with a bridle while the wicked are before me.

39:2  I became dumb, keeping still; I was silent, from good; and my pain was stirred.

39:3  My heart was hot within me; while I was musing, the fire burned; I spoke with my tongue:

39:4  O LORD, make me to know my end, and the measure of my days, what it is; I know how frail I am.

39:5  Behold, You have made my days as a handbreadth, and my age is as nothing before You. Surely every man standing is altogether vanity. Selah.

39:6  Surely a man walks about like a shadow! Surely they are in an uproar in vain. He heaps up, and does not know who shall gather them.

39:7  And now, Lord, what do I wait for? My hope is in You.

39:8  Deliver me from all my transgressions; make me not the reproach of the fool.

39:9  I was dumb, I did not open my mouth; because You have done it.

39:10  Remove Your stroke away from me; I am destroyed by the blow of Your hand.

39:11  You correct a man for iniquity with rebukes, and you make his desires vanish away like a moth. Surely every man is vanity. Selah.

39:12  Hear my prayer, O LORD, and give ear to my cry. Do not be silent at my tears; for I am a stranger with You, a pilgrim, as all my fathers were.

39:13  Look away from me, and I will smile before I go away and be no more.

Chapter 40

40:1  To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. I waited patiently for the LORD; and He bowed down to me, and heard my cry.

40:2  He brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet on a rock, and gave sureness to my steps.

40:3  And He has put a new song in my mouth, praise to our God; many shall see it and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.

40:4  Blessed is the man who makes the LORD his trust and does not turn to the proud, nor to those who turn aside to a lie.

40:5  O LORD my God, many things You have done, Your wonderful works and Your thoughts which are toward us; they cannot be set in order to You; I will declare and speak, for they are more than can be numbered.

40:6  Sacrifice and offering You did not desire; My ears You have opened; burnt offering and sin offering You have not asked.

40:7  Then I said, Lo, I come, in the volume of the Book it is written of Me;

40:8  I delight to do Your will, O My God; and Your law is within My heart.

40:9  I have preached righteousness in the great congregation; lo, I have not kept back My lips, O LORD, You know.

40:10  I have not hidden Your righteousness within my heart; I have declared Your faithfulness and Your salvation; I have not hidden Your loving-kindness and Your truth from the great congregation.

40:11  Do not withhold Your tender mercies from me, O LORD; let Your loving-kindness and Your truth always watch over me.

40:12  For evils without number have hemmed me in; my sins have taken hold on me, so that I am not able to look up; they are more than the hairs of my head, and my heart fails me.

40:13  Be pleased, O LORD, to deliver me; O LORD, make haste to help me.

40:14  Let them be ashamed and humbled together, those who seek after my soul to destroy it; let them be driven backward and put to shame, those who wish me evil.

40:15  Let them be desolate as a reward for their shame, those who say to me, Aha, aha!

40:16  Let all those who seek You rejoice and be glad in You, and the ones loving your salvation always say, Let the LORD be magnified.

40:17  But I am poor and needy; the LORD will care for me; You are my help and my deliverer; O my God, do not wait.

Chapter 41

41:1  To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. Blessed is he who acts wisely toward the poor; the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble.

41:2  The LORD will watch over him and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed on the earth; and You will not deliver him to the soul of his enemies.

41:3  The LORD will hold him up on the bed of sickness; You will change all his bed in his illness.

41:4  I said, LORD, be merciful to me; heal my soul; for I have sinned against You.

41:5  My enemies speak evil of me, saying, When will he die, and his name perish?

41:6  And when he comes to see me, he speaks vanity; his heart gathers iniquity to itself; he goes out and speaks of it.

41:7  All my haters me whisper against me; they plot evil against me.

41:8  They say, a wicked thing is poured out on him, and he who lies down shall rise no more.

41:9  Even a man, my friend, in whom I trusted, who ate of my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.

41:10  But You, O LORD, be merciful to me, and raise me up, so that I may repay them.

41:11  By this I know that You delight in me, because my enemy does not triumph over me.

41:12  And I, in my integrity You uphold me; and You set me before Your face forever.

41:13  Blessed is the LORD God of Israel, from everlasting, and to everlasting. Amen and Amen!

Chapter 42

42:1  To the Chief Musician. A contemplation; for the sons of Korah. As the hart pants after the water brooks, so my soul pants after You, O God.

42:2  My soul thirsts for God, for the living God; when shall I come and appear before God?

42:3  My tears have been my food day and night, while they say to me all the day, Where is your God?

42:4  When I remember these things, I pour out my soul on me; for I had gone with the multitude; I went with them to the house of God with the voice of joy and praise, a multitude keeping the feast.

42:5  Why are you cast down, O my soul, and moan within me? Hope in God; for I shall praise Him for the salvation of His face.

42:6  O my God, my soul is cast down within me; therefore I will remember You from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermons, from mount Mizar.

42:7  Deep calls to deep at the noise of Your waterfalls; all Your waves and Your billows have gone over me.

42:8  The LORD will command His loving-kindness in the daytime, and in the night His song shall be with me, my prayer to the God of my life.

42:9  I will say to God my rock, Why have You forgotten me? Why do I go mourning because of the cruelty of the enemy?

42:10  As with a sword in my bones, my enemies shame me; while they say daily to me, Where is your God?

42:11  Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why do you moan within me? Hope in God; for I still praise Him, the salvation of my face, and my God.

Chapter 43

43:1  Judge me, O God, and plead my cause against an ungodly nation. Oh deliver me from the deceitful and unjust man.

43:2  For You are the God of my strength; why do You cast me off? Why do I go mourning under the affliction of the enemy?

43:3  Oh send out Your light and Your truth; let them lead me; let them bring me to Your holy hill, and to Your tabernacles.

43:4  Then I will go to the altar of God, to God my exceeding joy; yea, on the harp I will praise You, O God, my God.

43:5  Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why do you moan within me? Hope in God; for I still praise Him, the salvation of my face, and my God.

Chapter 44

44:1  To the Chief Musician. For the sons of Korah, a contemplation. We have heard with our ears, O God; our fathers have told us the work which You did in their days, in the days of old.

44:2  You drove out the nations with Your hand, and planted them; You brought evil on peoples and cast them out.

44:3  For they did not get the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them; but it was Your right hand, and Your arm, and the light of Your face, because You favored them.

44:4  You are my king, O God; command victories for Jacob.

44:5  Through You we will push our enemies; through Your name we will trample those who rise up against us.

44:6  For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me.

44:7  But You have saved us from our enemies, and have put them to shame, those who hated us.

44:8  In God we boast all the day long, and praise Your name forever. Selah.

44:9  Now You have cast us off, and have shamed us, and You do not go forth with our armies.

44:10  You make us turn back from the adversary; and our haters plunder for themselves.

44:11  You have given us like sheep for food, and have scattered us among the nations.

44:12  You have sold Your people for nothing, and You did not increase by their price.

44:13  You make us a curse to our neighbors, a scorn and a mockery to those who are round about us.

44:14  You make us a byword among the nations, a shaking of the head among the people.

44:15  My shame is always before me, and the shame of my face has covered me:

44:16  because of the voice of the slanderer and the blasphemer; before the enemy and avenger.

44:17  All this has come on us; yet we have not forgotten You nor dealt falsely in Your covenant.

44:18  Our heart is not turned back, nor have our steps turned aside from Your way,

44:19  though You have crushed us in the place of jackals and covered us with the shadow of death.

44:20  If we have forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our hands to a strange god,

44:21  shall not God search this out? For He knows the secrets of the heart.

44:22  Yea, for Your sake we are put to death all the day long; we are counted as sheep for the slaughter.

44:23  Awaken! Why do You sleep, O LORD? Arise! Do not cast us off forever.

44:24  Why do You hide Your face, and forget our affliction and distress?

44:25  For our soul is bowed down to the dust; our belly holds fast to the earth.

44:26  Arise for our help, and redeem us for the sake of Your mercy.

Chapter 45

45:1  To the Chief Musician. Concerning the Lilies, for the sons of Korah, a contemplation; A Song of Loves. My heart is overflowing with a good matter; I speak of my works to the King; my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.

45:2  You are the fairest of the sons of men; grace is poured into Your lips; therefore God has blessed You forever.

45:3  Gird Your sword on Your thigh, O mighty one, with Your glory and Your majesty.

45:4  And ride prosperously in Your majesty, because of truth and meekness and righteousness; and Your right hand shall teach You fearful things.

45:5  Your arrows are sharp in the heart of the King's enemies; peoples fall under You.

45:6  Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; the staff of Your kingdom is a staff of righteousness.

45:7  You love righteousness, and hate wickedness; therefore God, Your God, has anointed You with the oil of gladness above Your fellows.

45:8  All Your garments smell of myrrh, and aloes and cassia, out of the ivory palaces, by which they have made You glad.

45:9  Kings' daughters are among Your precious ones; on Your right hand stands the queen in gold of Ophir.

45:10  Listen, O daughter, and look; and bow down your ear; and forget your own people and your father's house.

45:11  And cause the King greatly to desire your beauty, for He is your Lord, and you shall worship Him.

45:12  And the daughter of Tyre shall be there with a gift; even the rich among the peoples shall stroke your face.

45:13  The king's daughter is all glorious within; her clothing is trimmed with gold.

45:14  She shall be brought to the king in clothing of needlework; the virgins, her companions after her, shall be brought to You.

45:15  They shall be led with joy and gladness; they shall enter into the King's palace.

45:16  Your sons shall be in the place of your fathers; you will make them princes in all the land.

45:17  I will make Your name to be remembered in all generations; therefore the people shall praise You forever and ever.

Chapter 46

46:1  To the Chief Musician. For the sons of Korah. A Song "For the Virgins." God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

46:2  Therefore we will not fear when the earth changes, and when mountains are slipping into the heart of the seas.

46:3  Let its waters roar and foam; let the mountains shake with the swelling of it. Selah.

46:4  There is a river, its channels gladden the city of God glad, the holy place of the tabernacles of the Most High.

46:5  God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved; God shall help her at the turning of the morning.

46:6  The nations raged, the kingdoms were shaken; He uttered His voice, the earth melted.

46:7  The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

46:8  Come, behold the works of the LORD, who makes ruins on the earth;

46:9  who makes wars to cease to the ends of the earth; He breaks the bow, and cuts the spear in two; He burns the chariots in the fire.

46:10  Be still, and know that I am God! I will be praised among the nations, I will be praised in the earth.

46:11  The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

Chapter 47

47:1  To the Chief Musician. A Psalm for the sons of Korah. Clap your hand, all you peoples; shout to God with the voice of triumph.

47:2  For the LORD Most High is awesome, a great king over all the earth.

47:3  He shall humble the peoples under us, and nations under our feet.

47:4  He shall choose our inheritance for us, the majesty of Jacob whom He loved. Selah.

47:5  God has gone up with a shout, the LORD with the sound of a trumpet.

47:6  Sing praise to God, sing praise; sing praise to our King, sing praise.

47:7  For God is King of all the earth; sing praises with understanding.

47:8  God reigns over the nations, God sits on the throne of His holiness.

47:9  The rulers of the peoples are gathered together, the people of the God of Abraham; for the shields of the earth are God's; He is lifted up on high.

Chapter 48

48:1  A Song and Psalm for the Sons of Korah. Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of His holiness.

48:2  Beautiful on high, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King.

48:3  God is known in her strongholds for a refuge.

48:4  For, lo, the kings were gathered; they passed by together.

48:5  They saw, so they marvelled; they were troubled, and hurried away.

48:6  Fear took hold on them there, and pain, like a woman in labor.

48:7  You break the ships of Tarshish with an east wind;

48:8  as we have heard, so we have seen in the city of the LORD of hosts, in the city of our God. God will establish it forever. Selah.

48:9  We have thought of Your loving-kindness, O God, in the midst of Your temple.

48:10  According to Your name, O God, so is Your praise to the ends of the earth. Your right hand is full of righteousness; let mount Zion rejoice!

48:11  Let the daughters of Judah shout for joy because of Your judgments!

48:12  Walk around Zion, and go all around it; count the towers of it,

48:13  Set your heart on its ramparts, pass between its strongholds; so that you may tell it to the coming generation.

48:14  For this God is our God forever and ever; He will be our guide even to death.

Chapter 49

49:1  To the Chief Musician. A Psalm for the sons of Korah. Hear this, all you peoples; give ear, all inhabitants of the world;

49:2  both sons of mankind, and sons of man, rich and poor together;

49:3  my mouth shall speak of wise things; and the thoughts of my heart shall be of understanding.

49:4  I will bow down my ear to a parable; I will open my dark saying on the harp.

49:5  Why should I fear in the days of evil, when the perversity of my ambushers will surround me?

49:6  Those who trust in their wealth, and their many riches, boast themselves.

49:7  A man cannot at all redeem a brother, nor give to God a ransom for him,

49:8  for the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceases forever,

49:9  yea, he shall yet live forever; he shall never see corruption.

49:10  For he sees wise men die; likewise the fool and the animal-like ones perish, and leave their wealth to others.

49:11  Their inward thought is that their houses shall go on forever, and their dwelling-places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names.

49:12  But man, though high in honor, does not remain; he is like the animals that perish.

49:13  This way of theirs is their foolishness; yet their followers delight in their sayings. Selah.

49:14  Like sheep they are appointed to the grave; death shall reign for them; and the upright shall have the rule over them in the morning; and their form is for rotting; the grave is their home.

49:15  But God will redeem my soul from the hand of the grave; for He will take me. Selah.

49:16  Be not afraid when one becomes rich, when the glory of his house increases;

49:17  for when he dies he shall take nothing away; his glory shall not go down after him.

49:18  For in his life he blessed his soul; yea, they praise you when you do well to yourself.

49:19  He shall go to the generation of his fathers; they shall never see light.

49:20  Man in honor, but without understanding, is like the animals; they shall perish.

Chapter 50

50:1  A Psalm of Asaph. The mighty God, the LORD, has spoken, and called the earth from the rising of the sun to its going down.

50:2  Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God has shone.

50:3  Our God comes, and He is not silent; a fire shall devour before Him, and it shall be very stormy all around Him.

50:4  He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, so that He may judge His people.

50:5  Gather My saints to Me; and those who cut My covenant by sacrifice.

50:6  And the heavens shall declare His righteousness; for God Himself is judge. Selah.

50:7  Hear, My people, and I will speak, O Israel, and I will testify against you; I am God, your God.

50:8  I will not reprove you for your sacrifices; yea, your burnt offerings are continually before Me.

50:9  I will take no bull out of your house, nor he-goats out of your folds.

50:10  For every beast of the forest is Mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills.

50:11  I know all the birds of the mountains; and the wild beasts of the field are Mine.

50:12  If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world is Mine, and the fullness of it.

50:13  Will I eat the flesh of the mighty, or drink the blood of goats?

50:14  Offer to God thanksgiving; and pay your vows to the Most High;

50:15  and call on Me in the day of trouble; and I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.

50:16  But to the wicked, God says, What is it to you, to declare My statutes, and to take up My covenant in your mouth?

50:17  Yea, you hate to be taught, and you toss My words behind you.

50:18  When you saw a thief, then you were pleased to be with him, and you have taken part with adulterers.

50:19  You give your mouth to evil, and your tongue frames deceit.

50:20  You sit; you speak against your brother; you slander your own mother's son.

50:21  These things you have done, and I have kept silence; you thought that I was like yourself, but I will rebuke you, and set in order before your eyes.

50:22  Now think of this, you who forget God, lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver.

50:23  Whoever offers praise glorifies Me; and he who sets a way, I will show him the salvation of God.

Chapter 51

51:1  To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came to him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba. Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your loving-kindness; according to the multitude of Your tender mercies, blot out my transgressions.

51:2  Wash me completely from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.

51:3  For I confess my transgressions; and my sin is ever before me.

51:4  Against You, You only, have I sinned, and done evil in Your sight; that You might be justified when You speak, and be clear when You judge.

51:5  Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me.

51:6  Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts; and in the hidden part You shall make me to know wisdom.

51:7  Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

51:8  Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which You have broken may rejoice.

51:9  Hide Your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities.

51:10  Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.

51:11  Cast me not away from Your presence, and take not Your Holy Spirit from me.

51:12  Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.

51:13  Then I will teach transgressors Your ways; and sinners shall be converted to You.

51:14  Deliver me from the guilt of shedding blood, O God, O God of my salvation, and my tongue shall sing aloud of Your righteousness.

51:15  O LORD, open my lips, and my mouth shall show forth Your praise.

51:16  For You do not desire sacrifice; or else I would give it; You do not delight in burnt offering.

51:17  The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise.

51:18  Do good in Your good pleasure to Zion; build the walls of Jerusalem.

51:19  Then shall You be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering; then they shall offer bulls on Your altar.

Chapter 52

52:1  To the Chief Musician. A contemplation. A Psalm of David, when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul, and said to him, David has come to the house of Ahimelech. Why do you boast yourself in evil, O mighty man? The mercy of God endures forever.

52:2  Your tongue devises evil, like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.

52:3  You love evil more than good, and lying more than to speak righteousness. Selah.

52:4  You love all devouring words, O deceitful tongue.

52:5  God will likewise destroy you forever; He shall take you away, and pluck you out of your tent, and root you out of the land of the living. Selah.

52:6  And the righteous shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him, saying,

52:7  Behold, the man who did not make God his strength, but trusted in the abundance of his riches, he was strong in his wickedness.

52:8  But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God; I trust in the mercy of God forever and ever.

52:9  I will praise You forever, because You have done it; and I will wait on Your name; for it is good before Your saints.

Chapter 53

53:1  To the Chief Musician on Mahalath. A contemplation. A Psalm of David. The fool has said in his heart, There is no God. They acted corruptly, and have worked out abominable wickedness; there is not one doing good.

53:2  God looked down from Heaven on the sons of mankind to see if any was discerning, who was seeking God.

53:3  Every one has turned away; they have altogether become filthy; not one is doing good, no, not even one.

53:4  Have the workers of iniquity no knowledge? They eat up my people as they eat bread; they have not called on God.

53:5  There they dreaded with dread, where no dread was; for God has scattered the bones of him who camps against you; you have put them to shame because God rejects them.

53:6  Who will give from Zion the salvation of Israel? When God brings back the captivity of His people, Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad.

Chapter 54

54:1  To the Chief Musician. On stringed instruments. A contemplation. A Psalm of David, when the Ziphites came and said to Saul, Does not David hide himself among us? Save me, O God, by Your name, and judge me by Your strength.

54:2  Hear my prayer, O God; give ear to the words of my mouth.

54:3  For strangers have risen up against me, and cruel men seek after my soul; they have not set God before them. Selah.

54:4  Behold, God is my helper; the LORD is with those who uphold my soul.

54:5  He shall reward evil to my enemies; cut them off in Your truth.

54:6  I will freely sacrifice to You; I will praise Your name, O LORD, for it is good.

54:7  For He has delivered me out of all trouble; and my eye has seen its desire on my enemies.

Chapter 55

55:1  To the Chief Musician. For stringed instruments. A contemplation. A Psalm of David. Give ear to my prayer, O God; and hide not Yourself from my cry.

55:2  Attend to me, and hear me; I wander and I moan in my complaint,

55:3  from the voice of the enemy, from the oppression of the wicked, for they shake trouble over me, and in wrath they hate me.

55:4  My heart is pained within me; and the terrors of death have fallen on me.

55:5  Fear and trembling have come on me, and horror has covered me.

55:6  And I said, Who will give to me wings like a dove! I would fly away and be at rest.

55:7  Lo, I would wander far off; I would lodge in the desert. Selah.

55:8  I would hasten my escape from the windy storm and tempest.

55:9  Swallow up, O LORD, and divide their tongues; for I have seen violence and fighting in the city.

55:10  They go around her on her walls by day and night; and evil and sorrow are in her midst.

55:11  Covetings are in her midst; oppression and guile will not depart from her streets.

55:12  For it is not an enemy who reviled me; then I could have borne it; it is not one who hates me who magnified himself against me; or I would hide myself from him;

55:13  but it is you, a man my rank, my guide and my friend.

55:14  We took sweet counsel together, and walked to the house of God in company.

55:15  Let desolation take hold on them, and let them go down alive into hell; for evils are among them in their dwellings.

55:16  I, even I, will call to God, and the LORD will save me.

55:17  Evening and morning, and at noon, I will pray and cry aloud; and He shall hear my voice.

55:18  He has delivered my soul in peace from the battle that was against me; for there were many with me.

55:19  God shall hear and answer them, even He who is enthroned of old. Selah. Because they have no changes, therefore they do not fear God.

55:20  He has put forth his hands against those who were at peace with him; he has broken his covenant.

55:21  The butterings of his mouth were forked, but war was in his heart; his words were softer than oil, yet they were drawn swords.

55:22  Cast your burden on the LORD, and He will keep you; He will never allow the righteous to waver.

55:23  But You, O God, will bring them down into the pit of ruin; bloody and deceitful men shall not live half their days; but I will trust in You.

Chapter 56

56:1  To the Chief Musician. Concerning the silent dove-- those far off. Of David, a secret treasure--when the Philistines took him in Gath. Be merciful to me, O God, for man would swallow me up; fighting daily, he presses me down.

56:2  My watchers panted for me daily; for many are they who proudly fight against me.

56:3  When I am afraid I will trust in You.

56:4  In God I will praise His word; in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do to me.

56:5  All day long they pervert my words; all their thoughts are against me for evil.

56:6  They stir up strife; they hide themselves; they watch my steps as they wait for my soul.

56:7  Shall they escape by iniquity? In anger cast down the peoples, O God.

56:8  You number my wandering; O put my tears into Your bottle; are they not in Your Book?

56:9  When I cry, then my enemies will be turned back. This I know, for God is with me.

56:10  In God I will praise His word; in the LORD will I praise His word.

56:11  In God I have put my trust; I will not be afraid of what man can do to me.

56:12  Your vows are on me, O God; I will give praises to You.

56:13  For You have delivered my soul from death; have You not kept my feet from falling, so that I may walk before God in the light of the living?

Chapter 57

57:1  To the Chief Musician. Do not destroy. A secret treasure of David, when he fled from Saul in the cave. Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me; for my soul trusts in You; yea, in the shadow of Your wings I will make my hiding-place, until these great troubles pass by.

57:2  I will cry to God most high, to God who does all things for me.

57:3  He shall send from Heaven, and save me from the scorn of him who would swallow me up. Selah. God shall send forth His mercy and His truth.

57:4  My soul is among lions; I lie among those on fire, the sons of men whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.

57:5  Be praised above the heavens, O God; let Your glory be above all the earth.

57:6  They have prepared a net for my steps; my soul is bowed down; they have dug a pit before me, they have fallen into it. Selah.

57:7  My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed; I will sing and give praise.

57:8  Wake up, my soul! Wake up, harp and lyre! I will awake the dawn.

57:9  I will praise You, O LORD, among the peoples; I will sing to You among the nations.

Chapter 58

58:1  To the Chief Musician. Do not destroy. A secret treasure of David. Will you indeed speak righteousness in silence? Do you judge uprightly, O sons of men?

58:2  Yes, in heart you work the evil, you weigh the violence of your hands in the land.

58:3  The wicked are estranged from the womb; they go astray from the womb, speaking lies.

58:4  Their poison is like the poison of a snake; like the deaf adder, he stops his ear,

58:5  which will not listen to the charmer's voice, a skillful caster of spells.

58:6  O God, break their teeth in their mouth; break out the big teeth of the young lions, O LORD.

58:7  Let them melt away like waters; they run off to them; he bends his arrows, let them be as though they were cut off.

58:8  Let them be as a snail goes into melting; as a miscarriage of a woman, they do not see the sun.

58:9  Before your pots can feel the thorns, whether green or glowing, He shall sweep it away.

58:10  The righteous shall rejoice when he sees the vengeance; he shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked.

58:11  And man shall say, Truly, there is a reward for the righteous; truly, there is a God judging in the earth.

Chapter 59

59:1  To the Chief Musician. Do not destroy. A secret treasure of David, when Saul sent, and they watched the house to kill him. Deliver me from my enemies, O my God; defend me from those who rise up against me.

59:2  Deliver me from the workers of evil and save me from bloody men.

59:3  For, lo, they lie in wait for my soul; the mighty are gathered against me; not for my transgression, nor for my sin, O LORD.

59:4  Without my fault they run and prepare themselves; awaken to help me, and look on me.

59:5  And You, O LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel, awake to visit all the nations; do not be merciful to any plotting evil. Selah.

59:6  They return at evening; they make a noise like a dog, and go around the city.

59:7  Behold, they bellow out with their mouth; swords are in their lips; for they say, Who hears?

59:8  But You, O Jehovah, shall laugh at them; You will mock at all the nations.

59:9  O my Strength, let me look to You, for God is my strong tower.

59:10  The God of my mercy shall go before me; God shall let me see my desire on my enemies.

59:11  Do not kill them, lest my people forget; scatter them by Your power and bring them down, O LORD our shield.

59:12  For the sin of their mouth is the word of their lips, even let them even be taken in their pride; and for cursing and the lying which they speak.

59:13  Consume them in wrath; consume, so that they may not be; and let them know that God rules in Jacob to the ends of the earth. Selah.

59:15  Let them wander up and down for food, and growl if they are not satisfied.

59:16  But I will sing of Your power; yes, I will sing aloud of Your mercy in the morning; for You have been my strong tower and hiding-place in the day of my trouble.

59:17  To You, O my strength, I will sing; for God is my strong tower and the God of my mercy.

Chapter 60

60:1  To the Chief Musician. On the Lily of Testimony. A secret treasure of David, to teach; when he struggled with Aram-naharaim and with Aram of Zobah, when Joab returned and struck twelve thousand of Edom in the Valley of Salt. O God, You have cast us off, You have scattered us, You were angry; take us back.

60:2  You made the earth tremble; You tore it; heal the breaks of it, for it is shaking.

60:3  You have shown Your people hard things; You have made us to drink the wine of trembling.

60:4  You have given a banner to those who fear You, to lift it up because of the truth. Selah.

60:5  Save with Your right hand and answer me, that Your beloved may be delivered.

60:6  God has spoken in His holiness; I will rejoice, I will divide Shechem and measure out the valley of Succoth.

60:7  Gilead is Mine, and Manasseh is Mine; and Ephraim is the strength of My head, Judah is My lawgiver;

60:8  Moab is My washpot; over Edom I will cast out My shoe; over Philistia I cry in triumph.

60:9  Who will bring me into the strong city? Who will lead me into Edom?

60:10  Have not You, O God, cast us off? And will You, O God, not go out with our armies?

60:11  Give us help against our foe; for vain is the help of man.

60:12  Through God we shall do great things; for it is He who shall trample our enemies.

Chapter 61

61:1  To the Chief Musician. On stringed instruments. A Psalm of David. Hear my cry, O God; attend to my prayer.

61:2  From the end of the earth I cry to You when my heart is faint; Lead me to the Rock higher than I.

61:3  For You have been a shelter for me, a strong tower before the enemy.

61:4  I will dwell in Your tabernacle forever; I will trust in the hiding place of Your wings. Selah.

61:5  For You, O God, have heard my vows; You have given an inheritance to those who fear Your name.

61:6  You will add to the days of the king's life; his years will be for many generations.

61:7  He shall abide before God forever; prepare mercy and truth to preserve him.

61:8  So I will sing praise to Your name forever, so that I may daily pay my vows.

Chapter 62

62:1  To the Chief Musician. To Jeduthun. A Psalm of David. Only to God is my soul in silence; from Him comes my salvation.

62:2  He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my tower; I shall not be greatly moved.

62:3  How long will you imagine mischief against a man? You will shatter him, all of you; you shall be like a bowing wall and a tottering fence.

62:4  Surely they have plotted to cast him down from his great height; they delight in lies; they bless with their mouth, but they curse in their heart. Selah.

62:5  My soul, be silent only to God; for my hope is from Him.

62:6  He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my strong tower; I shall not be shaken.

62:7  In God is my salvation and my glory; the rock of my strength; my hiding-place is in God.

62:8  Trust in Him at all times; you people, pour out your heart before Him; God is a hiding-place for us. Selah.

62:9  Surely the sons of men are vanity; the sons of men are a lie; they go up in the scales; they are altogether lighter than vanity.

62:10  Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery; if riches increase, do not set your heart on them.

62:11  God has spoken once; twice I have heard this, that power belongs to God.

62:12  Also to You, O LORD, belongs mercy; for You give to every man according to his work.

Chapter 63

63:1  A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah. O God, You are my God; I will seek You earnestly; my soul thirsts for You; my flesh longs for You, as in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;

63:2  so I have seen You in the holy place, seeing Your power and Your glory.

63:3  Because Your loving-kindness is better than life, my lips shall praise You.

63:4  So I will bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name.

63:5  My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips,

63:6  when I remember You on my bed and think of You in the night watches.

63:7  Because You have been my help, therefore in the shadow of Your wings I will rejoice.

63:8  My soul follows hard after You; Your right hand upholds me.

63:9  But those who seek my soul, to destroy it, shall go into the depths of the earth.

63:10  They shall fall by the sword; they shall be a serving for jackals.

63:11  But the king shall rejoice in God; everyone who swears by Him shall glory; but the mouth of those who speak lies shall be stopped.

Chapter 64

64:1  To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. Hear my voice, O God, in my complaint; guard my life from fear of the enemy.

64:2  Hide me from the council of those who injure, from the rebelling of the workers of iniquity,

64:3  who sharpen their tongue like a sword, they tread their arrows, even a bitter word,

64:4  so that they may shoot at the blameless one from a lurking place; suddenly they shoot at him, and fear not.

64:5  They encourage themselves in an evil plan; they talk of laying snares secretly; they say, Who shall see them?

64:6  They search out injustice, saying, We have finished hiding a hidden plot. Yea, the inward part of man and the heart are deep.

64:7  But God shall shoot at them with an arrow; suddenly they shall be wounded.

64:8  So they shall be confounded; their tongue falls on themselves; everyone seeing them shall flee.

64:9  And all men shall fear, and shall declare the work of God; for they shall in wisdom think of His doing.

64:10  The righteous shall be glad in the LORD, and shall trust in Him; and all the upright in heart shall glory.

Chapter 65

65:1  To the Chief Musician. A Psalm and Song of David. To You silence is praise, O God, in Zion; and to You is a vow paid.

65:2  To You who hears prayer, all flesh comes.

65:3  Things of iniquity are mightier than I; as for our transgressions, You shall purge them away.

65:4  Blessed is the one whom You choose, and cause to come near You. He shall dwell in Your courts; we shall be satisfied with the goodness of Your house, of Your holy temple.

65:5  By awesome things in righteousness You will answer us, O God of our salvation; who are the hope of all the ends of the earth and the sea, of those far away.

65:6  The mountains are established by Your strength, banded together with might,

65:7  who stills the noise of the sea, the roar of their waves, and the uproar of the peoples.

65:8  And the inhabitants of the furthermost places are afraid of Your signs; You make the beginning of the morning and the evening rejoice.

65:9  You visit the earth and water it; You greatly enrich it; the river of God is full of water; You provide their grain, for in this way You have prepared it.

65:10  You fill its terraces with water; You deepen its furrows; You make it soft with showers; You bless the sprouting of it.

65:11  You crown the year with Your goodness, and Your paths drop fatness.

65:12  They drop on the pastures of the wilderness; and the little hills gird themselves with joy.

65:13  The pastures are clothed with flocks; the valleys also are covered over with grain; they shout for joy and sing.

Chapter 66

66:1  To the Chief Musician. A Song. A Psalm. Make a joyful noise to God, all the earth.

66:2  Sing forth the honor of His name; make His praise glorious.

66:3  Say to God, How awesome are Your works! Through the greatness of Your power, Your enemies pretend obedience to You.

66:4  All the earth shall worship You, and shall sing to You; they praise Your name. Selah.

66:5  Come and see the works of God; He is awesome in His deeds toward the sons of men.

66:6  He turns the sea into dry land; they went through the flood on foot; there we rejoiced in Him.

66:7  He rules by His power forever; His eyes behold the nations; let not the rebels lift themselves up. Selah.

66:8  O bless our God, O peoples, and make the voice of His praise to be heard;

66:9  who holds our soul in life, and does not allow our feet to slide.

66:10  For You have proved us, O God; You have tested us, as silver is refined.

66:11  You have brought us into the net; You have laid affliction on our loins.

66:12  You have allowed men to ride at our head; we have gone through fire and through water, but You have brought us out to plenty.

66:13  I will go into Your house with burnt offerings; I will pay You my vows,

66:14  those which my lips have uttered and my mouth has spoken in my trouble.

66:15  I will offer to You burnt sacrifices of fatlings, with the incense of rams; I will offer bulls with goats. Selah.

66:16  Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will declare what He has done for my soul.

66:17  I cried to Him with my mouth, and exaltations were under my tongue.

66:18  If I regard iniquity in my heart, the LORD will not hear;

66:19  Surely God has heard; He has attended to the voice of my prayer.

66:20  Blessed is God, who has not turned away my prayer, nor His mercy from me.

Chapter 67

67:1  To the Chief Musician. On stringed instruments. A Psalm. A Song. May God be merciful to us, and bless us, and cause His face to shine on us. Selah.

67:2  So that Your way may be known on earth, Your salvation among all nations.

67:3  Let the peoples praise You, O God; let all the peoples thank You.

67:4  O let the nations be glad and sing for joy; for You shall judge the peoples righteously and govern the nations on earth. Selah.

67:5  Let the peoples give thanks to You, O God; let all the peoples praise You.

67:6  The earth shall yield its increase; and God, our own God, shall bless us.

67:7  God shall bless us; and all the ends of the earth shall fear Him.

Chapter 68

68:1  To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. A Song. Let God arise, let His enemies be scattered; also let those who hate Him flee before Him.

68:2  As smoke is driven away, You drive them away; as wax melts before the fire, let the wicked perish in the presence of God.

68:3  But the righteous are glad; they rejoice before God. Yes, let them exceedingly rejoice.

68:4  Sing to God, sing praises to His name; praise Him who rides on the heavens by His name JEHOVAH, and rejoice before Him.

68:5  In His holy dwelling God is the father of the fatherless, and the judge of the widows.

68:6  God causes the lonely to live at home; He brings out those who are bound with chains; but the rebellious dwell in a dry land.

68:7  O God, when You marched before Your people, when You walked through the wilderness; Selah.

68:8  The earth shook, the heavens also dropped at the presence of God; Sinai itself was moved at the presence of God, the God of Israel.

68:9  You, O God, sent a plentiful rain, by which You upheld Your inheritance when it was weary.

68:10  Your flock has dwelt in it; You, O God, have prepared in Your goodness for the poor.

68:11  The Lord gave the word; the bearers of it were a great army.

68:12  Kings of armies fled away; and she who stayed at home divided the plunder.

68:13  When you lie among the sheepfolds, the wings of a dove are covered with silver, and its pinions with the shimmer of gold.

68:14  When the Almighty scatters kings in it, it snows on Salmon.

68:15  The mountain of Bashan is God's mountain; the Bashan range is a mountain of peaks.

68:16  Why do you gaze in envy, O mountain range, at the mountain God has chosen for His resting place? Yes, the LORD will dwell in it forever.

68:17  The chariots of God are myriads, thousands of thousands; the Lord is among them, in Sinai, in the holy place.

68:18  You have gone up on high; You have led captivity captive; You have received gifts for men, yes, for the rebellious also, that You might dwell among them, O Jehovah God.

68:19  Blessed is the LORD; He daily bears burdens for us, the God of our salvation. Selah.

68:20  Our God is the God of salvation; and to the LORD are the issues of death.

68:21  Yea, God shall wound the head of His enemies, and the hairy crown of him who walks on in his guilt.

68:22  The Lord said, I will bring again from Bashan; I will bring back My people from the depths of the sea;

68:23  so that your foot may be dipped in the blood of your enemies, and the tongue of your dogs in it.

68:24  They have seen Your goings, O God; the goings of my God, my King, in the holy place.

68:25  The singers went before, then the musicians came; among them were the virgins playing the timbrels.

68:26  O bless God in the congregations, the Lord, from the fountain of Israel.

68:27  There is little Benjamin with their ruler, the leaders of Judah and their multitude, the leaders of Zebulun, and the leaders of Naphtali.

68:28  Your God has commanded your strength; O God, be strong in that which You have worked out for us.

68:29  Because of Your temple in Jerusalem, kings shall bring a present to You.

68:30  Rebuke the wild beasts of the reeds, the herd of bulls, with the calves of the peoples, trampling down with the pieces of silver. He scatters the people who delight in war.

68:31  Princes shall come out of Egypt; Ethiopia shall stretch out her hands to God.

68:32  Sing to God, you kingdoms of the earth; O sing praises to the Lord. Selah.

68:33  To Him who rides on the heavens of heavens of old; lo, He sends out His voice, a mighty voice.

68:34  Give strength to God over Israel; His majesty and His strength in the skies.

68:35  O God, You are overwhelming out of Your holy places; the God of Israel is He who gives strength and powers to the people. Blessed is God.

Chapter 69

69:1  To the Chief Musician. Concerning the Lilies. A Psalm of David. Save me, O God! for the waters have come in on my soul.

69:2  I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing; I have come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me.

69:3  I am weary from my crying; my throat is dried; my eyes fail while I wait for my God.

69:4  They who hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of my head; they who would destroy me are mighty, my lying enemies. Then I restored what I did not take away.

69:5  O God, You know my foolishness, and my guiltiness is not hidden from You.

69:6  Do not let those who wait on You, O LORD God of hosts, be ashamed for my sake; let not the ones who seek You be ashamed for my sake, O God of Israel,

69:7  because I have borne reproach for Your sake, shame has covered my face.

69:8  I have become a stranger to My brothers, and a foreigner to My mother's children.

69:9  For the zeal of Your house has eaten Me up; and the reproaches of those who reproached You have fallen on Me.

69:10  When I humbled my soul with fasting, it turned to my reproach.

69:11  I also made sackcloth my clothing, and I became a proverb to them.

69:12  They who sit in the gate speak against me; and I was the song of the drunkards.

69:13  But as for me, my prayer is to You, O LORD, in a pleasing time; O God, in the multitude of Your mercy hear me, in the truth of Your salvation.

69:14  Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink; let me be delivered from those who hate me, and out of the deep waters.

69:15  Do not let the flood of waters overflow me, nor let the deep swallow me up, and let not the pit shut its mouth on me.

69:16  Hear me, O LORD, for Your loving-kindness is good; turn to me according to the multitude of Your tender mercies.

69:17  And hide not Your face from Your servant; for I am in trouble; hear me quickly.

69:18  Draw near my soul, and redeem it; deliver me because of my enemies.

69:19  You have known my reproach, and my shame, and my dishonor; my enemies are all before You.

69:20  Reproach has broken my heart, and I am full of heaviness; and I looked for some to mourn with me, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none.

69:21  They also gave Me gall for my food; and in My thirst they gave Me vinegar to drink.

69:22  Let their table become a snare before them; and to those at ease a trap.

69:23  Let their eyes be darkened, so that they do not see; and make their loins shake without ceasing.

69:24  Pour out Your wrath on them, and let the glow of Your anger take hold of them.

69:25  Let their dwelling be wasted; let none dwell in their tents.

69:26  For they persecute him whom You have stricken, and they talk to the grief of those You pierced.

69:27  Add iniquity to their iniquity, and let them not come into Your righteousness.

69:28  Let them be blotted out of the Book of Life, and not be written with the righteous.

69:29  But I am poor and sorrowful; let Your salvation, O God, set me up on high.

69:30  I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify Him with thanksgiving.

69:31  This also shall please the LORD better than an ox, or a bull that has horns and hoofs.

69:32  The humble shall see and be glad; and your heart shall live, you who seek God.

69:33  For the LORD hears the needy, and does not despise His prisoners.

69:34  Let the heavens and earth praise Him, the seas, and everything that moves in them.

69:35  For God will save Zion, and will build the cities of Judah; so that they may dwell there, and possess it.

69:36  And the seed of His servants shall inherit it, and they who love His name shall dwell in it.

Chapter 70

70:1  To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David, to bring to remembrance. Make haste, O God, to deliver me; make haste to help me, O LORD.

70:2  Let them be ashamed and turned pale, those who seek after my soul; let them be turned backward and blush, those who desire my hurt.

70:3  Let them be turned back for a reward of their shame, those who say, Aha, aha!

70:4  Let all those who seek You rejoice and be glad in You; and let those who love Your salvation say without ending, Let God be magnified.

70:5  But I am poor and needy; make haste to me, O God; You are my help and my deliverer; O LORD, wait no longer!

Chapter 71

71:1  In You, O LORD, I put my trust; let me never be put to shame.

71:2  Deliver me in Your righteousness, and cause me to escape; bow down Your ear to me, and save me.

71:3  Be a rock of refuge for me, to which I may always go; You have commanded to save me; for You are my Rock and my Fortress.

71:4  Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked, out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruel man.

71:5  For You are my hope, O Lord God, my trust from my youth.

71:6  On You I have rested from the womb; You are He who took me out of my mother's bowels; my praise always shall be of You.

71:7  I am like a wonder to many, but You are my strong tower.

71:8  Let my mouth be filled with Your praise, with Your honor all the day.

71:9  Cast me not off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength fails.

71:10  For my enemies speak against me; and those who watch for my soul plot together,

71:11  saying, God has forsaken him; pursue and take him, for there is none to deliver him.

71:12  O God, be not far from me; O my God, make haste for my help.

71:13  Let them be ashamed; let those who are enemies of my soul be consumed; let them be covered with reproach and dishonor, those who seek my hurt.

71:14  But I will hope without ceasing, and I will add more in all Your praise.

71:15  My mouth shall show forth Your righteousness and Your salvation all the day; for I do not know how many they are.

71:16  I will go in the strength of the Lord GOD; I will speak of Your righteousness, of Yours alone.

71:17  O God, You have taught me from my youth; and before now I have declared Your wonderful works.

71:18  And now when I am old and gray-headed, O God, do not leave me; until I have declared Your strength to this generation, and Your power to everyone who is to come.

71:19  And Your righteousness, O God, is very high, who have done great things. O God, who is like You,

71:20  who has shown me great and evil distresses; You will turn me; You will make me live. You will turn me from the depths of the earth, You will bring me up.

71:21  You will increase my greatness and surround and comfort me on every side.

71:22  I will also praise You with a harp. O my God, I will sing Your truth; to You I will sing with the lyre, O Holy One of Israel.

71:23  My lips shall greatly rejoice when I sing to You, and my soul, which You have redeemed.

71:24  My tongue also shall muse on Your righteousness all the day long; for those who seek my evil have turned pale, they are brought to shame.

Chapter 72

72:1  A Psalm of Solomon. Give the King Your judgments, O God, and Your righteousness to the King's son.

72:2  He will judge Your people in righteousness, and Your poor with judgment.

72:3  The mountains shall bring peace to the people, and the little hills by righteousness.

72:4  He shall judge the poor of the people; He shall save the children of the needy, and shall crush in pieces the cruel one.

72:5  They shall fear You as long as the sun and moon endure, throughout all generations.

72:6  He shall come down like rain on the mown grass, like showers that water the earth.

72:7  In His days the righteous shall flourish; and abundance of peace, until the moon is not.

72:8  He shall also have the rule from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth.

72:9  Those who dwell in the wilderness shall bow before Him; and His enemies shall lick the dust.

72:10  The kings of Tarshish and of the isles shall bring presents; the kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts.

72:11  Yes, all kings shall fall down before Him; all nations shall serve Him.

72:12  For He shall deliver the needy when he cries; and the poor with no helper.

72:13  He shall have pity on the poor and needy and shall save the souls of the needy.

72:14  He shall redeem their soul from deceit and violence; and their blood shall be precious in His sight.

72:15  And He shall live, and to Him shall be given the gold of Sheba; and prayer shall always be made for Him; He shall bless Him all the day long.

72:16  There shall be a fullness of grain in the earth on the top of the mountains; its fruit shall shake like Lebanon, and they of the city shall flourish like grass of the earth.

72:17  His name shall endure forever; His name shall be continued as long as the sun; and men shall be blessed in Him; all nations shall call Him blessed.

72:18  Blessed is the LORD God, the God of Israel, who alone does wonderful things.

72:19  And blessed be His glorious name forever; and all the earth is filled with His glory! Amen and Amen.

72:20  The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended.

Chapter 73

73:1  A Psalm of Asaph. Truly God is good to Israel, to the pure of heart.

73:2  And I, my foot had almost stumbled; my steps had nearly slipped.

73:3  For I was jealous of the proud, when I saw the peace of the wicked.

73:4  For there are no bands in their death; but their strength is fat.

73:5  They are not in trouble like other men; neither are they plagued like other men.

73:6  Therefore pride enchains them; violence covers them like a robe.

73:7  Their eyes stand out with fatness; they have more than the heart could imagine.

73:8  They scoff and speak in malice of cruelty; from on high they speak.

73:9  They set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walks through the earth.

73:10  Therefore His people return here, and waters of a full cup are wrung out to them.

73:11  And they say, How does God know? And is there knowledge in the Most High?

73:12  Behold, these are the ungodly, who are at ease in the world; they increase in riches.

73:13  Surely I have made my heart pure in vain, and washed my hands in innocence.

73:14  For all the day long I have been plagued, and chastened every morning.

73:15  If I say, I will speak thus; behold, I would deceive a generation of Your sons.

73:16  When I thought deeply in order to understand this, it was painful for me,

73:17  until I went into the sanctuary of God; then I understood their end.

73:18  Surely You set them in slippery places; You cast them down into ruin.

73:19  How have they been brought into grief, as in a moment! They are fully eaten up with terrors,

73:20  like a dream when one awakens; so, O LORD, when You awake, You shall despise their image.

73:21  For my heart was grieved and I was pricked in my reins.

73:22  So foolish was I, and I did not know; I was like a beast before You.

73:23  But I am always with You; You have held me by my right hand.

73:24  You shall lead me with Your counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.

73:25  Whom have I in Heaven? And besides You I desire none on earth.

73:26  My flesh and my heart fail; but God is the strength of my heart, and my part forever.

73:27  For lo, those who are far from You shall perish; You have destroyed all who go lusting away from You.

73:28  And I, it is good for me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in the LORD God, to declare all Your works.

Chapter 74

74:1  An Instruction of Asaph. O God, have You cast us off forever? Will Your anger smoke against the sheep of Your pasture?

74:2  Remember Your congregation, which You have purchased of old, the rod of Your inheritance which You have redeemed; this mount Zion in which You have dwelt.

74:3  Lift up Your feet to the never-ending ruins, even all that the enemy has done wickedly in the sanctuary.

74:4  Your enemies roar in the midst of Your congregation; they set up their own banners for signs.

74:5  He is known as one bringing axes on high, on the thick trees.

74:6  And now all its carvings too, they break down with axes and hammers.

74:7  They have cast fire into Your sanctuary; they have defiled the dwelling-place of Your name to the ground.

74:8  They said in their hearts, Together let us rage against them; they have burned up all God's meeting-places in the land.

74:9  We did not see our signs; there is no prophet any more; neither is there among us any who knows how long.

74:10  O God, how long shall the enemy speak evil? Shall the enemy blaspheme Your name forever?

74:11  Why do You withdraw Your hand, even Your right hand? Draw it out of Your bosom.

74:12  For God is my king of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth,

74:13  You divide the sea by Your strength; You break the heads of the sea-monsters in the waters.

74:14  You cracked open the heads of leviathan, and gave him to be food to the people living in the wilderness.

74:15  You divide the fountain and the flood; You dry up mighty rivers.

74:16  The day is Yours, the night also is Yours; You have prepared the light and the sun.

74:17  You have set all the borders of the earth; You have made summer and winter.

74:18  Remember this, the enemy has cursed, O LORD, and the foolish people have blasphemed Your name.

74:19  Do not deliver the soul of Your turtle dove to the multitude; forget not the congregation of Your poor forever.

74:20  Look to the covenant; for the dark places of the earth are full of the houses of evil.

74:21  Oh let not the ill-treated ones return ashamed; let the poor and needy praise Your name.

74:22  Arise, O God, plead Your own cause; remember how the foolish man curses You daily.

74:23  Forget not the voice of Your enemies; the noise of those who rise up against You keeps on increasing.

Chapter 75

75:1  To the Chief Musician. Do not destroy. A Psalm of Asaph. A Song. To You, O God, we have given thanks, to You we have given thanks; for Your name is near, Your wonderful works declared.

75:2  When I take the appointed time, I will judge uprightly.

75:3  The earth and all its people are melting away; I hold up its pillars. Selah.

75:4  I said to the proud, Do not boast; and to the wicked, Do not lift up the horn;

75:5  do not lift up your horn on high; nor speak with a stiff neck.

75:6  For lifting up comes neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south.

75:7  But God is the judge; He puts down one and sets up another.

75:8  For in the hand of the LORD there is a cup, and the wine is red; it is fully mixed; and He pours out from it; but the dregs of it, all the wicked of the earth shall drain its dregs and drink.

75:9  But I will declare forever; I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.

75:10  Also I will cut off all the horns of the wicked; but the horns of the righteous shall be lifted up.

Chapter 76

76:1  To the Chief Musician. For stringed instruments. A Psalm of Asaph. A Song. God is known in Judah, His name is great in Israel.

76:2  And His abode is in Salem; and His dwelling-place in Zion.

76:3  There He broke the fiery arrows of the bow, the shield, and the sword, and the battle. Selah.

76:4  You are more glorious and excellent than the mountains of prey.

76:5  The stouthearted have been stripped; they slept their sleep; and none of the men of might have found their hands.

76:6  By Your rebuke, O God of Jacob, both the horse and the chariot have sunk into a sleep.

76:7  You, even You, are terrifying, and who can stand when once You are angry?

76:8  You cause judgment to be heard from Heaven; the earth feared and was still,

76:9  when God arose to judgment, to save all the meek of the earth. Selah.

76:10  Surely the wrath of man shall praise You; the wrath that is left, You shall bind up.

76:11  Vow, and pay to the LORD your God; let all that are around Him bring presents to the Fearful One.

76:12  He shall cut off the spirit in princes; He is feared by the kings of the earth.

Chapter 77

77:1  To the Chief Musician. To Jeduthun. A Psalm of Asaph. I cried to God with my voice, to God is my voice; and He gave ear to me.

77:2  In the day of my trouble I sought the LORD; my hand was poured in the night, and ceased not; my soul refused to be comforted.

77:3  I remembered God, and was troubled; I complained, and my spirit fainted. Selah.

77:4  You keep my eyes awake; I am troubled and I cannot speak.

77:5  I have thought on the days of old, the years of ages past.

77:6  I remember my song in the night; I speak with my own heart, and my spirit carefully searches.

77:7  Will the Lord cast off forever? And will He be favorable no more?

77:8  Is His mercy gone forever? Has His word failed for all generations?

77:9  Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has He in anger shut up His tender mercies? Selah.

77:10  And I said, This is my weakness, the years of the right hand of the Most High.

77:11  I will remember the works of the LORD; surely I will remember Your wonders of old.

77:12  I will also think on all Your work, and talk of Your doings.

77:13  Your way, O God, is in holiness; who is so great a God as our God?

77:14  You are the God who does wonders; You have declared Your strength among the people.

77:15  You have with Your arm redeemed Your people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah.

77:16  The waters saw You, O God, the waters saw You; they were afraid; the depths also were troubled.

77:17  The clouds poured out water; the skies sent out a sound; Your arrows also flew here and there.

77:18  The voice of Your thunder was in the sky; the lightnings lit up the world; the earth trembled and shook.

77:19  Your way is in the sea, and Your path in the great waters, and Your footsteps are not known.

77:20  You led Your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.

Chapter 78

78:1  An instruction of Asaph. Give ear, O my people, to my law; bow down your ears to the words of my mouth.

78:2  I will open my mouth in a parable; I will speak dark sayings of old,

78:3  which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.

78:4  We will not hide them from their sons, showing to the generations to come the praises of the LORD, and His strength, and His wonderful works that He has done.

78:5  For He set up a testimony in Jacob, and ordered a law in Israel, which He commanded our fathers, that they should teach them to their sons;

78:6  so that the generation to come might know; sons shall be born, and they shall arise and tell their sons,

78:7  so that they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep His commandments;

78:8  and might not be like their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation that did not set their heart aright, and whose spirit was not faithful with God.

78:9  The sons of Ephraim, armed shooters of bows, turned back in the day of battle.

78:10  They did not keep the covenant of God, and refused to walk in His law.

78:11  And they forgot His works and His wonders which He had shown them.

78:12  He did marvelous things in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan.

78:13  He divided the sea and caused them to pass through; and He made the waters to stand in a heap.

78:14  And in the daytime He led them with a cloud, and all the night with a light of fire.

78:15  He split the rocks in the wilderness, and let them drink, as from the great depths.

78:16  He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers.

78:17  And they sinned still more against Him, by provoking the Most High in the wilderness.

78:18  And they tempted God in their heart by asking food for their lust.

78:19  And they spoke against God; they said, Can God set a table in the wilderness?

78:20  Behold! He struck the rock so that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed. Can He also give bread? Can He provide flesh for His people?

78:21  Therefore the LORD heard, and was made furious; so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel,

78:22  because they did not believe in God, and did not trust in His salvation;

78:23  though He had commanded the clouds from above, and had opened the doors of the heavens;

78:24  and had rained down manna on them to eat, and He gave them of the grain of the heavens.

78:25  Man ate the food of the mighty; He sent them meat to the full.

78:26  He caused an east wind to blow in the sky; and by His power He brought in the south wind.

78:27  and He also rained flesh on them like dust, and winged birds like the sand of the sea;

78:28  and He let them fall in the middle of their camp, all around their tents.

78:29  So they ate, and were filled to the full; for He gave them their own desire.

78:30  They were not turned away from their lust, but while their food was still in their mouths,

78:31  the wrath of God came on them and killed the fattest of them, and struck down the chosen of Israel.

78:32  For all this they still sinned, and did not believe because of His wonderful works.

78:33  Therefore He ended their days in vanity and their years in trouble.

78:34  When He killed them, then they looked for Him; and they turned back and sought after God.

78:35  And they remembered that God was their rock, and the Most High God was their redeemer.

78:36  But they flattered Him with their mouths, and they lied to Him with their tongues.

78:37  For their heart was not right with Him, neither were they faithful in His covenant.

78:38  But He, full of pity, forgave their iniquity, and did not destroy them; yea, many times He turned His anger away, and did not stir up all His wrath.

78:39  For He remembered that they were but flesh, a wind that passes away and does not come again.

78:40  How often they provoked Him in the wilderness, and grieved Him in the desert!

78:41  Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and pained to the Holy One of Israel.

78:42  They did not remember His hand, the day when He delivered them from the enemy;

78:43  how He had set His signs in Egypt, and His wonders in the fields of Zoan.

78:44  He turned their rivers into blood, and their floods, so that they could not drink.

78:45  He sent different kinds of flies among them, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them.

78:46  He also gave their crops to the stripping locust, and their labor to the locust.

78:47  He destroyed their vines with hail, and their sycamore trees with sleet.

78:48  He gave up their cattle to the hail, and their flocks to bolts of fire.

78:49  He sent on them the heat of His anger, wrath and fury and trouble, by sending evil angels.

78:50  He made a way to His anger; He did not save their soul from death, but gave their life over to the plague,

78:51  and struck all the first-born in Egypt, the first of the strong in the tents of Ham;

78:52  and led His people forth like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.

78:53  And He led them on safely, so that they did not fear; but the sea flooded over their enemies.

78:54  And He brought them within His own holy border, this mountain, which His right hand had bought.

78:55  He also cast out the nations before them, and divided them an inheritance by line, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.

78:56  Yet they tempted and provoked the Most High God, and kept not His testimonies;

78:57  but they turned back, and acted unfaithfully like their fathers; they were turned aside like a deceiving bow.

78:58  For they provoked Him to anger with their high places, and moved Him to jealousy with their carved images.

78:59  When God heard, He was angry, and turned away from Israel;

78:60  so that He left the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent which He placed among men,

78:61  and delivered His strength into captivity, and His glory into the enemy's hands.

78:62  He also gave His people over to the sword, and was angry with His inheritance.

78:63  The fire burned up their young men; and their maidens were not given in marriage.

78:64  Their priests fell by the sword; and their widows were not able to weep.

78:65  Then the Lord awakened like one out of sleep, like a mighty man rejoicing with wine.

78:66  And He drove His enemies backward; He put them to a never-ending shame.

78:67  And He refused the tabernacle of Joseph, and chose not the tribe of Ephraim;

78:68  but chose the tribe of Judah, the mount Zion which He loved.

78:69  And He built His holy place like high palaces, like the earth which He has founded forever.

78:70  He also chose David His servant, and took him from the sheepfolds;

78:71  from following the ewes great with young He brought him to feed Jacob His people, and Israel His inheritance.

78:72  And he fed them according to the pureness of his heart, and guided them by the skillfulness of his hands.

Chapter 79

79:1  A Psalm of Asaph. O God, the nations have come into Your inheritance; they have defiled Your holy temple; they have laid Jerusalem in heaps.

79:2  They have given the dead bodies of Your servants as food for the birds of the heavens, the flesh of Your saints to the beasts of the earth.

79:3  They have shed their blood like water round about Jerusalem, and none to bury.

79:4  We have become a shame to our neighbors, a scorn and mockery to those who are around us.

79:5  How long, O LORD? Will You be angry forever? Shall Your jealousy burn like fire?

79:6  Pour out Your wrath on the nations who have not known You, and on the kingdoms who have not called on Your name.

79:7  For they have eaten up Jacob, and wasted his dwelling-place.

79:8  O do not remember against us our former sins; let Your tender mercies meet us quickly; for we are brought very low.

79:9  Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of Your name; and deliver us, and atone for our sins, for Your name's sake.

79:10  Why should the nations say, Where is their God? Let Him be known among the nations before our eyes by the revenging of the blood of Your servants which is shed.

79:11  Let the groaning of the prisoner come before You; according to the greatness of Your power, leave a remnant of those who are to die,

79:12  and give to our neighbors their curse sevenfold into their bosom, the curse with which they have cursed You, O Lord.

79:13  Then we, Your people and sheep of Your pasture, will give You thanks forever; we will show forth Your praise to all generations.

Chapter 80

80:1  To the Chief Musician. A Testimony Concerning the Lilies. A Psalm of Asaph. Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, You who lead Joseph like a flock; You dwelling between the cherubs, shine forth.

80:2  Stir up Your strength before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh, and come, save us.

80:3  Turn us again, O God, and cause Your face to shine, and we shall be saved!

80:4  O LORD God of hosts, how long will You be angry against the prayer of Your people?

80:5  You feed them with the bread of tears; and give them tears to drink in great measure.

80:6  You make us a strife for our neighbors; and our enemies laugh among themselves.

80:7  Turn us again, O God of hosts, and cause Your face to shine; and we shall be saved.

80:8  You have brought a vine out of Egypt; You have cast out the nations and planted it.

80:9  You cleared before it, and caused it to take deep root; and it filled the land.

80:10  The hills were covered with its shadow, and its boughs were as the great cedars.

80:11  It sent out its boughs to the sea, and its branches to the river.

80:12  Why have You broken down its hedges, so that all those who pass by the way pluck it?

80:13  The boar out of the wood wastes it, and the wild beast of the field eats it.

80:14  Return, we beg You, O God of hosts; look down from Heaven, and behold, and visit this vine,

80:15  and the vineyard which Your right hand has planted, and the Son that You make strong for Yourself.

80:16  It is burned with fire, and cut down; they perish at the rebuke of Your holy face.

80:17  Let Your hand be on the Man of Your right hand, on the Son of man whom You have made strong for Yourself.

80:18  So we will not go back from You; make us live, and we will call on Your name.

80:19  Turn us again, O LORD God of Hosts; cause Your face to shine, and we shall be saved.

Chapter 81

81:1  To the Chief Musician. On Gittith, A Psalm of Asaph. Sing aloud to God our strength; shout for joy to the God of Jacob.

81:2  Lift up a psalm, and bring the timbrel here, the pleasing lyre and harp.

81:3  Blow the ram's horn in the new moon, in the time appointed, on our solemn feast day.

81:4  For this was a statute for Israel, an ordinance of the God of Jacob.

81:5  This He ordained in Joseph for a testimony, when He went out over the land of Egypt; I heard a language I understood not.

81:6  I removed his shoulder from the burden; his hands were delivered from the pots.

81:7  You called in trouble, and I delivered you; I answered you in the secret place of thunder; I tested you at the waters of Meribah. Selah.

81:8  Hear, O My people, and I will testify to you; O Israel, if you will listen to Me,

81:9  there shall be no strange god in you; nor shall you worship any strange god.

81:10  I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt; open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.

81:11  But My people would not listen to My voice, and Israel would have none of Me.

81:12  So I gave them up to the stubbornness of their own hearts; and they walked in their own conceits.

81:13  Oh that My people had listened to Me, and Israel had walked in My ways!

81:14  I would soon have humbled their enemies, and would have turned My hand against their foes.

81:15  The haters of the LORD would have been found liars to Him, and their time would have lasted forever.

81:16  And He would have fed them also with the finest of the wheat; and with honey out of the rock I would have satisfied you.

Chapter 82

82:1  A Psalm of Asaph. God stands in the congregation of God; in the midst of the gods He judges.

82:2  How long will you judge unjustly and lift up the faces of the wicked? Selah.

82:3  Defend the poor and fatherless; do justice to the afflicted and needy.

82:4  Deliver the poor and needy; save them out of the hand of the wicked.

82:5  They neither know nor will understand; they walk on in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken.

82:6  I have said, You are gods; and all of you sons of the Most High.

82:7  But you shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes.

82:8  Arise, O God, judge the earth; for You shall inherit in all nations.

Chapter 83

83:1  A Song. A Psalm of Asaph. Keep not silence, O God; do not be speechless, and be not still, O God.

83:2  For lo, Your enemies roar; and those who hate You have lifted up their head.

83:3  They take shrewd counsel against Your people, and plot against Your hidden ones.

83:4  They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation, so that the name Israel may be remembered no more.

83:5  For with one heart they have plotted together; they have made a covenant against You--

83:6  the tents of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarites;

83:7  Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; the Philistines with the people of Tyre;

83:8  and Assyria has joined with them; they have helped the sons of Lot. Selah.

83:9  Do to them as to Midian, as to Sisera, as to Jabin at the torrent Kishon;

83:10  who perished at Endor; they became as dung for the earth.

83:11  Make their nobles like Oreb, and like Zeeb; yea, all their princes like Zebah, and like Zalmunna;

83:12  who said, Let us take possession for ourselves of the houses of God.

83:13  O my God, make them like a wheel; like the stubble before the wind.

83:14  As the fire burns a forest, and as the flame sets the mountains on fire,

83:15  so pursue them with Your tempest, and make them afraid with Your storm.

83:16  Fill their faces with shame, that they may seek Your name, O LORD.

83:17  Let them be ashamed and troubled forever; yea, let them be put to shame, and lost;

83:18  so that men may know that Your name is JEHOVAH, that You alone are the Most High over all the earth.

Chapter 84

84:1  To the Chief Musician. On Gittith. A Psalm for the sons of Korah. How lovely are Your tabernacles, O LORD of hosts!

84:2  My soul longs, yea, even faints for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh shout for joy to the living God.

84:3  Even the sparrow has found a house, and the swallow a nest for herself where she may lay her young, Your altars, O LORD of hosts, my king and my God.

84:4  Blessed are they who dwell in Your house; they will still praise You. Selah.

84:5  Blessed is the man whose strength is in You; Your ways are in their hearts.

84:6  Passing through the valley of weeping, they will make it a fountain; the early rain also covers it with blessings.

84:7  They go from strength to strength, appearing in Zion before God.

84:8  O LORD God of hosts, hear my prayer; give ear, O God of Jacob. Selah.

84:9  Behold, O God, our shield, and look on the face of Your anointed.

84:10  For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than dwell in the tents of wickedness.

84:11  For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.

84:12  O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man who trusts in You.

Chapter 85

85:1  To the Chief Musician. A Psalm for the sons of Korah. O LORD, You have been gracious to Your land; You have brought back the captivity of Jacob.

85:2  You have forgiven the iniquity of Your people; You have covered all their sins. Selah.

85:3  You have taken away all Your wrath; You have turned from the heat of Your anger.

85:4  Turn us, O God of our salvation, and cause Your anger toward us to cease.

85:5  Will You be angry with us forever? Will You draw out Your anger to all generations?

85:6  Will You not give us life again, so that Your people may rejoice in You?

85:7  Show us Your mercy, O LORD, and grant us Your salvation.

85:8  I will hear what God the LORD will speak; for He will speak peace to His people, and to His saints; but let them not turn again to folly.

85:9  Surely His salvation is near those that fear Him, so that glory may dwell in our land.

85:10  Mercy and truth have met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.

85:11  Truth shall spring out of the earth; and righteousness shall look down from Heaven.

85:12  Yea, the LORD shall give good; and our land shall yield its increase.

85:13  Righteousness shall go before Him and shall set us in the way of His steps.

Chapter 86

86:1  A Prayer of David. Bow down Your ear, O LORD, hear me; for I am poor and needy.

86:2  Preserve my soul; for I am holy; O You my God, save Your servant who trusts in You.

86:3  Be merciful to me, O Lord; for I cry to You daily.

86:4  Give joy to the soul of Your servant; for to You, O Lord, I lift up my soul.

86:5  For You, Lord, are good and ready to forgive, and rich in mercy to all those who call on You.

86:6  Give ear, O LORD, to my prayer; and attend to the voice of my prayers.

86:7  In the day of my trouble I will call on You; for You will answer me.

86:8  Among the gods there is none like You, O Lord; non are like Your works.

86:9  All nations whom You have made shall come and worship before You, O Lord, and shall glorify Your name.

86:10  For You are great and do wonderful things; You alone are God.

86:11  Teach me Your way, O LORD; I will walk in Your truth; my heart rejoices to fear Your name.

86:12  I will praise You, O Lord my God, with all my heart, and I will glorify Your name forevermore.

86:13  For great is Your mercy toward me; and You have delivered my soul from the lowest hell.

86:14  O God, the proud have risen against me, and the company of violent men have sought after my life, and have not set You before them.

86:15  But You, O God, are God full of pity, and gracious, long-suffering, and rich in mercy and truth.

86:16  Oh turn to me, and have mercy on me; give Your strength to Your servant, and save the son of Your handmaid.

86:17  Show me a token for good, so that they who hate me may see and be ashamed; because You, LORD, have helped me and comforted me.

Chapter 87

87:1  A Psalm for the sons of Korah, A Song. His foundation is in the holy mountains.

87:2  The LORD loves the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob.

87:3  Glorious things are spoken of you, O city of God. Selah.

87:4  I will mention Rahab and Babylon to those who know me; behold, Philistia and Tyre, with Ethiopia; this man was born there.

Chapter 88

88:1  A Song. A Psalm for the sons of Korah. To the Chief Musician. On Mahalath, to make humble. A Poem of Heman the Ezrahite. O LORD God of my salvation, I have cried day and night before You.

88:2  Let my prayer come before You; bow down Your ear to my cry.

88:3  For my soul is full of troubles, and my life draws near the grave.

88:4  I am counted with those who go down to the Pit; I am like a feeble man;

88:5  free among the dead, like the slain that lie in the grave, whom You remember no more; and by Your hand they are cut off.

88:6  You have laid me in the lowest pit, in darkness, in the deeps.

88:7  Your wrath lies hard on me, and You have afflicted me with all Your waves. Selah.

88:8  You have taken my friends away from me; You have made me a hateful thing to them. I am shut up, and I cannot go out.

88:9  My eye mourns because of affliction; O LORD, I have called daily on You; I have stretched out my hands to You.

88:10  For will You do wonders to the dead? Shall the dead rise and praise You? Selah.

88:11  Shall Your loving-kindness be declared in the grave? Or Your faithfulness in ruin?

88:12  Shall Your wonders be known in the dark, and Your righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?

88:13  But to You I have cried, O LORD; and in the morning my prayer shall go before You.

88:14  O LORD, why do You cast off my soul? Why do You hide Your face from me?

88:15  I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up; while I suffer Your terrors, I pine away.

88:16  Your fierce wrath goes over me; Your terrors have cut me off.

88:17  They surrounded me like waters all the day long; they have come together around me.

88:18  You have taken lover and friend far from me, and those who know me into darkness.

Chapter 89

89:1  A Poem of Ethan the Ezrahite. I will sing of the mercies of the LORD forever; with my mouth I will make known Your faithfulness to all generations.

89:2  For I have said, Mercy shall be built up forever; You shall establish Your faithfulness in the heavens.

89:3  I have cut a covenant with My chosen; I have sworn to David My servant,

89:4  Your seed will I establish forever, and build up your throne to all generations. Selah.

89:5  And the heavens shall praise Your wonders, O LORD, Your faithfulness also in the congregation of the saints.

89:6  For who in the sky or can be ranked with the LORD? Who among the mighty is like the LORD?

89:7  God is greatly to be feared in the congregation of the saints, and to be adored by all around Him.

89:8  O LORD God of hosts, who is a strong LORD like You? And Your faithfulness is round about You?

89:9  You rule the raging of the sea; when its waves arise, You still them.

89:10  You have broken Rahab in pieces, as one that is slain; You have scattered Your enemies with Your strong arm.

89:11  The heavens are Yours, the earth also is Yours; You have founded the world and its fullness.

89:12  The north and the south, You have created them; Tabor and Hermon shall rejoice in Your name.

89:13  You have a mighty arm; Your hand is strong, and Your right hand is high.

89:14  Justice and judgment are the foundation of Your throne; mercy and truth shall go before Your face.

89:15  Blessed is the people that knows the joyful sound; they shall walk, O LORD, in the light of Your face.

89:16  In Your name they shall rejoice all the day; and in Your righteousness they shall be lifted up.

89:17  For You are the glory of their strength; and in Your favor our horn shall be lifted up.

89:18  For the LORD is our shield; yea, our king is the Holy One of Israel.

89:19  Then You spoke in a vision to Your holy one, and You said, I have laid help on a mighty one; I have lifted up a chosen one out of the people.

89:20  I have found David, My servant; with My holy oil I have anointed him.

89:21  My hand shall be always with him; My arm also shall make him strong.

89:22  The enemy shall not use force on him, nor the son of wickedness afflict him.

89:23  And I will beat down his foes before his face, and plague those who hate him.

89:24  But My faithfulness and My mercy shall be with him; and in My name his horn shall be lifted up.

89:25  I will set his hand also in the sea, and his right hand in the rivers.

89:26  He shall cry to Me, My Father, You are my God, and the rock of my salvation.

89:27  And I will make him My first-born, higher than the kings of the earth.

89:28  I will keep My mercy for him forever, and My covenant shall stand fast with him.

89:29  Also I have set his seed forever, and his throne as the days of the heavens.

89:30  If his children forsake My law, and do not walk in My judgments;

89:31  if they profane My statutes, and do not keep My commandments;

89:32  then I will visit their wickedness with the rod, and their sin with stripes.

89:33  But I will not completely take My loving-kindness from him, and I will not be false in My faithfulness.

89:34  I will not break My covenant, nor change the thing that has gone out of My lips.

89:35  Once I have sworn by My holiness that I will not lie to David.

89:36  His seed shall endure forever, and his throne as the sun before Me.

89:37  It shall be established forever like the moon, and like a faithful witness in the heavens. Selah.

89:38  But You have cast off and rejected us; You have been angry with Your anointed.

89:39  You have turned away from the covenant of Your servant; You have defiled his crown to the ground.

89:40  You have broken down all his hedges; You have brought his strongholds to ruin.

89:41  All who pass by the way plunder him; he is a curse to his neighbors.

89:42  You have set up the right hand of his enemies; You have made all his enemies rejoice.

89:43  You also have turned back the edge of his sword and have not made him stand in the battle.

89:44  You have made his glory to cease, and have thrown his throne down to the ground.

89:45  The days of his youth You have shortened; You have covered him with shame. Selah.

89:46  How long, LORD? Will You hide Yourself forever? Shall Your wrath burn like fire?

89:47  Remember, I pray, how short my time is; why have You made all men in vain?

89:48  What man lives and never sees death? Shall he deliver his soul from the hand of the grave? Selah.

89:49  O Lord, where are Your former loving-kindnesses which You swore to David in Your truth?

89:50  Remember, Lord, the scorn of Your servants; how I bear in my bosom the insult of all the mighty people,

89:51  with which Your enemies have cursed, O LORD; with which they have cursed the footsteps of Your anointed.

89:52  Blessed is the LORD forevermore. Amen and Amen.

Chapter 90

90:1  A Prayer of Moses, the man of God. O LORD, You have been our dwelling-place in all generations.

90:2  Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever You had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting You are God.

90:3  You turn man to dust, and say, Return, sons of men.

90:4  For a thousand years in Your sight are as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.

90:5  You carry them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep; in the morning they are like grass which grows up.

90:6  In the morning it sprouts and shoots up; in the evening it is cut down, and dries up.

90:7  For we are burned up by Your anger, and by Your wrath we are troubled.

90:8  You have set our iniquities before You, our secret sins in the light of Your face.

90:9  For all our days pass away in Your wrath; we finish our years like a murmur.

90:10  The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by strength they are fourscore years, yet their pride is labor and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.

90:11  Who knows the power of Your anger? And as Your fear is, so is Your wrath.

90:12  So teach us to number our days, so that we may bring a heart of wisdom.

90:13  Return, O LORD! How long? And give pity to Your servants.

90:14  Satisfy us early with Your mercy, so that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.

90:15  Make us glad according to the days of our affliction, the years in which we have seen evil.

90:16  Let Your work appear to Your servants, and Your glory to their sons.

90:17  And let the beauty of the LORD our God be on us; and establish the work of our hands on us; yea, the work of our hands, establish it.

Chapter 91

91:1  He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall rest under the shadow of the Almighty.

91:2  I will say of the LORD, my refuge and my fortress; my God; in Him I will trust.

91:3  Surely He will deliver you from the fowler's trap and from the destroying plague.

91:4  He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall trust. His truth shall be your shield, and buckler.

91:5  You shall not fear the terror by night; nor because of the arrow that flies by day;

91:6  nor for the plague that walks in darkness, of the destruction laying waste at noonday.

91:7  A thousand shall fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; it shall not come near you.

91:8  Only with your eyes you shall look and see the reward of the wicked.

91:9  Because You, O LORD, are My refuge; if you have made the Most High Your dwelling-place,

91:10  no evil shall befall You, nor shall any plague come near Your dwelling.

91:11  For He shall give His angels charge over You, to keep You in all Your ways.

91:12  They shall bear You up in their hands, lest You dash your foot against a stone.

91:13  You shall tread on the lion and adder; the young lion and the jackal You shall trample underfoot.

91:14  Because He has set His love on Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set Him on high, because He has known My name.

91:15  He shall call on Me, and I will answer Him; I will be with Him in trouble; I will deliver Him, and honor Him.

91:16  With long life I will satisfy him, and show him My salvation.

Chapter 92

92:1  A Psalm or Song for the sabbath day. It is good to give thanks to the LORD, and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High;

92:2  to show forth Your loving-kindness in the morning, and Your faithfulness every night;

92:3  on the ten strings, and on the harp, with sounding music on the lyre.

92:4  For You, LORD, have made Me glad with Your work; I will triumph in the works of Your hands.

92:5  O LORD, how great are Your works; Your purposes are very deep.

92:6  A beastly man does not know; nor does a fool understand this.

92:7  When the wicked spring as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity blossom, it is that they shall be destroyed forever;

92:8  but You, LORD, are high forever.

92:9  For, lo, Your enemies, O LORD; for lo, Your enemies shall perish; all the workers of iniquity shall be scattered.

92:10  But You shall lift up my horn as the wild ox; and I shall be anointed with fresh oil.

92:11  Also my eye shall see my desire on my enemies, and my ears shall hear the wicked who rise up against me.

92:12  The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree; he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.

92:13  Those that are planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God.

92:14  They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flowering;

92:15  to show that the LORD is upright; He is my rock, and no unrighteousness is in Him.

Chapter 93

93:1  The LORD reigns, He is clothed with majesty; the LORD is clothed with strength. He clothed Himself and the world is established; it shall not be shaken.

93:2  Your throne is established of old; You are from everlasting.

93:3  The floods have lifted up, O LORD, the floods have lifted up their voices; the floods lift up their waves.

93:4  The LORD on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, than the mighty waves of the sea.

93:5  Your testimonies are very sure; holiness becomes Your house forever, O LORD.

Chapter 94

94:1  O God of vengeance, Jehovah, God of vengeance, shine forth!

94:2  Lift up Yourself, Judge of the earth; give a just repayment to the proud.

94:3  How long shall the wicked, O LORD, how long shall the wicked exult?

94:4  They gush; they speak impudent things; all the workers of iniquity speak proudly.

94:5  They crush Your people, O LORD, and afflict Your inheritance.

94:6  They kill the widow and the stranger, and murder the fatherless.

94:7  Yet they say, The LORD shall not see, nor shall the God of Jacob observe it.

94:8  Understand, you beastly ones among the people; and fools, when will you be wise?

94:9  He who planted the ear, shall He not hear? He who formed the eye, shall He not see?

94:10  He who chastens the nations, shall He not correct, He who teaches man knowledge?

94:11  The LORD knows the thoughts of man, that they are vain.

94:12  Blessed is the man whom You chasten, O LORD, to teach him out of Your law;

94:13  that You may give him rest from the days of trouble, until the pit is dug for the wicked.

94:14  For the LORD will not cast off His people, nor will He forsake His inheritance.

94:15  But judgment shall return to righteousness; and all the upright in heart shall follow it.

94:16  Who will rise up for me against the evildoers? Who will stand up for me against the workers of iniquity?

94:17  Unless the LORD had been my help, my soul had almost dwelt in silence.

94:18  When I said, My foot slips; Your mercy, O LORD, held me up.

94:19  In the multitude of my thoughts within me Your comforts delight my soul.

94:20  Shall the throne of iniquity have fellowship with You, which frames mischief by a law?

94:21  They gather themselves against the soul of the righteous, and condemn the innocent blood.

94:22  But the LORD is my defense; and my God is the rock of my refuge.

94:23  And He will bring on them their own iniquity, and He will cut them off in their evil. The LORD our God shall cut them off.

Chapter 95

95:1  Oh come, let us sing to the LORD; let us make a joyful noise to the Rock of our salvation.

95:2  Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise to Him with psalms.

95:3  For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods.

95:4  In His hand are the deep places of the earth; the strength of the hills is also His.

95:5  The sea is His, and He made it, and His hands formed the dry land.

95:6  Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the LORD our maker.

95:7  For He is our God, and we are the people of His pasture, and the sheep of His hand. Today if you will hear His voice,

95:8  harden not your heart, as in the day of strife, as in the day of testing in the wilderness;

95:9  when your fathers tempted Me, tested Me, and saw My work.

95:10  For forty years I was grieved with this generation, and said, It is a people who go astray in their hearts, and they have not known My ways;

95:11  to whom I swore in My wrath that they should not enter into My rest.

Chapter 96

96:1  Oh sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth.

96:2  Sing to the LORD, bless His name; show forth His salvation from day to day.

96:3  Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all people.

96:4  For the LORD is great, and greatly to be praised; He is to be feared above all gods.

96:5  For all the gods of the nations are idols; but the LORD made the heavens.

96:6  Honor and majesty are before Him; strength and beauty are in His sanctuary.

96:7  Give to the LORD, O families of the people; give to the LORD glory and strength.

96:8  Give to the LORD the glory due to His name; bring an offering, and come into His courts.

96:9  O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness; fear before Him, all the earth.

96:10  Say among the nations, the LORD reigns; and the world shall be established; it shall not be moved; He shall judge the peoples in uprightness.

96:11  Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; let the sea roar, and the fullness of it.

96:12  Let the field be joyful, and all that is in it; then shall all the trees of the forest rejoice

96:13  before the LORD; for He comes, for He comes to judge the earth; He shall judge the world with righteousness, and the people with His truth.

Chapter 97

97:1  The LORD reigns; let the earth rejoice; let the multitude of islands be glad.

97:2  Clouds and darkness are all around Him; righteousness and judgment are the foundation of His throne.

97:3  A fire goes before Him and burns up His enemies round about.

97:4  His lightnings lit up the world; the earth saw and trembled.

97:5  The hills melted like wax at the presence of the LORD, at the presence of the LORD of the whole earth.

97:6  The heavens declare His righteousness, and all the people see His glory.

97:7  All those who serve graven images are ashamed, those who boast themselves in idols; all gods bow down before Him.

97:8  Zion heard and was glad; and the daughters of Judah rejoiced because of Your judgments, O LORD.

97:9  For You, LORD, are high above all the earth; You are lifted on high far above all gods.

97:10  You who love the LORD, hate evil; He keeps the souls of His saints; He delivers them out of the hand of the wicked.

97:11  Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart.

97:12  Rejoice in the LORD, righteous ones; and give thanks at the memory of His holiness.

Chapter 98

98:1  A Psalm. O sing to the LORD a new song; for He has done marvelous things; His right hand and His holy arm have saved for Him.

98:2  The LORD has made known His salvation; His righteousness He has unveiled to the eyes of the nations.

98:3  He has remembered His mercy and His truth toward the house of Israel; all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our. GOD.

98:4  Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth; breakout, and rejoice, and sing praise.

98:5  Sing to the LORD with the harp; with the harp, and the voice of a psalm.

98:6  With trumpets and sound of a horn make a joyful noise before the LORD, the King.

98:7  Let the sea roar, and the fullness of it; the world, and those who live in it.

98:8  Let the floods clap their hands; let the hills be joyful together

98:9  before the LORD; for He comes to judge the earth; with righteousness He shall judge the world, and the peoples in uprightness.

Chapter 99

99:1  The LORD reigns; let the peoples tremble. He sits between the cherubs; let the earth quake.

99:2  The LORD is great in Zion; and He is high above all the peoples.

99:3  Let them praise Your great and fearful name; it is holy.

99:4  The king's strength also loved judgment; You established uprightness; You worked judgment and righteousness in Jacob.

99:5  Praise the LORD our God, and worship at His footstool; He is holy.

99:6  Moses and Aaron were among His priests, and Samuel among those who called on His name; they called on the LORD, and He answered them.

99:7  He spoke to them in the cloudy pillar; they kept His testimonies and the ordinance that He gave them.

99:8  You answered them, O LORD our God; You were a God who forgave them, though You take vengeance for their deeds.

99:9  Praise the LORD our God, and worship at His holy hill; for the LORD our God is holy.

Chapter 100

100:1  A Psalm of praise. Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all you lands.

100:2  Worship the LORD with gladness; come before His presence with singing.

100:3  Know that the LORD, He is God. He has made us, and not we ourselves; we are His people, and the sheep of His pasture.

100:4  Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise; be thankful to Him, and bless His name.

100:5  For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting; and His truth endures to all generations.

Chapter 101

101:1  A Psalm of David. I will sing of mercy and judgment; to You, O LORD, I will sing praise.

101:2  I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way. O when will You come to me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart.

101:3  I will set no wicked thing before my eyes. I have hated the work of those who turn aside; it shall not hold on to me.

101:4  A perverse heart will depart from me; I will not know the wicked.

101:5  Whoever secretly slanders his neighbor, I will cut him off; him who has a high look and a proud heart, I will not allow.

101:6  My eyes shall be on the faithful of the land, so that they may dwell with me; he who walks in a perfect way, he shall serve Me.

101:7  He who works falsely shall not dwell within my house; he who tells lies shall not stay in my sight.

101:8  I will early destroy all the wicked of the land, so that I may cut off all wicked doers from the city of the LORD.

Chapter 102

102:1  A prayer of the afflicted, when he is overwhelmed and pours out his complaint before the LORD. Hear my prayer, O LORD, and let my cry come to You.

102:2  Hide not Your face from me in the day when I am in trouble; bow down Your ear to me; in the day I call, answer me quickly.

102:3  For my days go up like smoke, and my bones glow like a firebrand.

102:4  My heart is stricken, and dried like grass, so that I forget to eat my bread.

102:5  Because of the voice of my groaning, my bones hold fast to my skin.

102:6  I am like a pelican of the wilderness; I am like an owl of the desert.

102:7  I watch, and am as a sparrow alone on the house top.

102:8  My enemies curse me all the day; and they who are mad against me are sworn against me.

102:9  For I have eaten ashes like bread, and have mixed my drink with weeping,

102:10  because of Your anger and Your wrath; for You have lifted me up and cast me down.

102:11  My days are like a shadow stretched out; and I wither like grass.

102:12  But You, O LORD, shall endure forever; and Your memory to all generations.

102:13  You shall arise, and have mercy on Zion; for the time to pity her, yea, the set time, has come.

102:14  For Your servants take pleasure in its stones, and pity its dust.

102:15  So the nations shall fear the name of the LORD, and all the kings of the earth Your glory.

102:16  When the LORD shall build up Zion, He shall appear in His glory.

102:17  He will turn to the prayer of the forsaken and not despise their prayer.

102:18  This shall be written for the generation to come; and the people who shall be created shall praise the LORD.

102:19  For He has looked down from the height of His sanctuary; from Heaven the LORD beheld the earth;

102:20  to hear the groaning of the prisoner, to set free the sons of death;

102:21  to declare the name of the LORD in Zion, and His praise in Jerusalem;

102:22  when the peoples and the kingdoms have gathered together to serve the LORD.

102:23  He weakened my strength in the way; He shortened my days.

102:24  I said, O my God, take me not away in the midst of my days; Your years are through the generation of generations.

102:25  Of old You have laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the work of Your hands.

102:26  They shall perish, but You shall endure; yea, all of them shall become old like a garment; like a robe You shall change them, and they shall be changed;

102:27  but You are He, and Your years shall have no end.

102:28  The sons of Your servants shall continue, and their seed shall be established before You.

Chapter 103

103:1  A Psalm of David. Bless the LORD, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name.

103:2  Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits;

103:3  who forgives all your iniquities; who heals all your diseases;

103:4  who redeems your life from ruin; who crowns you with loving-kindness and tender mercies;

103:5  who satisfies your mouth with good; your youth is renewed like the eagle's.

103:6  The LORD works righteousness and judgment for all who are pressed down.

103:7  He made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the sons of Israel.

103:8  The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and rich in mercy.

103:9  He will not always chasten, nor will He keep His anger forever.

103:10  He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.

103:11  For as the heavens are high above the earth, so is His mercy toward those who fear Him.

103:12  As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.

103:13  As a father pities his children, the LORD pities those who fear Him.

103:14  For He knows our form; He remembers that we are dust.

103:15  As for man, his days are as grass; as a flower of the field, so he flourishes.

103:16  For the wind passes over it, and it is gone; and its place shall know it no more.

103:17  But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear Him, and His righteousness is to sons of sons;

103:18  to those who keep His covenant, and to those who remember to do His commandments.

103:19  The LORD has prepared His throne in the heavens; and His kingdom rules over all.

103:20  Bless the LORD, O angels of His, who excel in strength, who do His command, listening to the voice of His word.

103:21  Bless the LORD, all His hosts, ministers of His who do His pleasure.

103:22  Bless the LORD, all His works in all places of His rule; bless the LORD, O my soul.

Chapter 104

104:1  Bless the LORD, O my soul. O LORD my God, You are very great; You have put on honor and majesty,

104:2  covering Yourself with light as with a robe; and stretching out the heavens like a curtain;

104:3  He lays the beams of His upper rooms in the waters. He sets the clouds as His chariots; He walks on the wings of the wind;

104:4  He makes His angels spirits, His ministers a flaming fire.

104:5  He laid the earth on its foundations; it shall not be shaken forever.

104:6  You covered the deep as with a robe; the waters stand above the mountains.

104:7  At Your rebuke they flee; at the voice of Your thunder they hurry away.

104:8  They go up by the mountains; they go down by the valleys to the place which You have founded for them.

104:9  You have set a bound that they may not pass over, so that they do not turn again to cover the earth.

104:10  He sends the springs into the valleys; they flow between the hills.

104:11  They give drink to every beast of the field; the wild asses break their thirst.

104:12  By them the birds of the heavens will have their place of rest; they sing among the branches.

104:13  He waters the hills from His upper rooms; the earth is satisfied with the fruit of Your works.

104:14  He causes the grass to grow for the cattle, and plants for the service of man, to bring forth food out of the earth,

104:15  and wine cheers the heart of man, and oil makes his face shine, and bread sustains the heart of man.

104:16  The trees of the LORD are full, the cedars of Lebanon which He has planted;

104:17  where the birds make their nests; the fir trees are the house of the stork.

104:18  The high hills are for the wild goats, and the rocks are a refuge for the badgers.

104:19  He appointed the moon for seasons; the sun knows its going down.

104:20  You make darkness, and it is night, in which all the beasts of the forest creep forth.

104:21  The young lions roar after their prey, and seek their food from God.

104:22  The sun rises; they are gathered, and go to their dens to lie down.

104:23  Man goes out to his work and to his labor until the evening.

104:24  O LORD, how many are Your works! In wisdom You have made them all; the earth is full of Your riches.

104:25  This is the great and wide sea, in which are creeping things without number, both small and great animals.

104:26  There the ships go; You made this great sea animal to play in it.

104:27  These all wait on You, that You may give them their food in due season.

104:28  You give to them, they gather; You open Your hand; they are filled with good.

104:29  You hide Your face, they are troubled; You take away their breath, they die and return to their dust.

104:30  You send forth Your Spirit, they are created; and You renew the face of the earth.

104:31  The glory of the LORD shall endure forever; the LORD shall rejoice in His works.

104:32  He looks on the earth, and it trembles; He touches the hills, and they smoke.

104:33  I will sing to the LORD as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.

104:34  My thoughts of Him shall be sweet; I will be glad in the LORD.

104:35  Let the sinners perish from the earth, and let the wicked be no more. Bless the LORD, O my soul. Praise the LORD!

Chapter 105

105:1  O give thanks to the LORD; call on His name; make known His deeds among the people.

105:2  Sing to Him, sing praises to Him; talk of all His wonderful works.

105:3  Glory in His holy name; let the heart of those who seek the LORD rejoice.

105:4  Seek the LORD and His strength; seek His face evermore.

105:5  Remember His marvelous works which He has done, His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth,

105:6  seed of His servant Abraham, sons of Jacob His chosen.

105:7  He is the LORD our God; His judgments are in all the earth.

105:8  He has remembered His covenant forever, the word which He commanded to a thousand generations;

105:9  the covenant which He made with Abraham, and His oath to Isaac;

105:10  and He confirmed it to Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant,

105:11  saying, To you I will give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance;

105:12  when they were a few men in number; yea, very few, and strangers in it.

105:13  When they went from one nation to another, from a kingdom to another people,

105:14  He allowed no man to do them wrong; yea, He reproved kings for their sakes,

105:15  saying, Touch not my anointed, and do My prophets no harm.

105:16  And He called for a famine on the land; He broke the whole staff of bread.

105:17  He sent a man before them, Joseph, being sold for a servant;

105:18  whose feet they hurt with chains; he was laid in iron,

105:19  until the time that his word came, the word of the LORD refined him.

105:20  The king sent and set him free; the ruler of the people, and let him go free.

105:21  He made him lord of his house, and ruler of all he owned,

105:22  to chain his leaders at his pleasure, and teach his elders wisdom.

105:23  Israel also came into Egypt, and Jacob resided in the land of Ham.

105:24  And He increased His people greatly and made them stronger than their enemies.

105:25  He turned their heart to hate His people, to deal craftily with His servants.

105:26  He sent Moses His servant, and Aaron whom He had chosen.

105:27  They showed His signs among them, and wonders in the land of Ham.

105:28  He sent darkness, and made it dark; and they did not rebel against His word.

105:29  He turned their waters into blood, and killed their fish.

105:30  Their land swarmed with frogs in the rooms of their kings.

105:31  He spoke, and there came fly swarms and gnats in all their borders.

105:32  He gave them hail for rain and flaming fire in their land.

105:33  He struck their vines also and their fig trees, and broke the trees of their borders.

105:34  He spoke, and locusts came, and larvae without number;

105:35  and they ate up all the plants in their land, and ate the fruit of their ground.

105:36  He also struck all the first-born in their land, the chief of all their strength.

105:37  He also brought them out with silver and gold; and there was not one feeble person among their tribes.

105:38  Egypt was glad when they departed; for the fear of them had fallen on them.

105:39  He spread a cloud for a covering, and fire to give light in the night.

105:40  They asked, and He brought quail, and satisfied them with the food of heaven.

105:41  He opened the rock, and the waters gushed out; they ran in the dry places like a river.

105:42  For He remembered His holy promise and Abraham His servant.

105:43  And He brought forth His people with joy, and His chosen with gladness,

105:44  and gave them the lands of the nations; and they inherited the labor of the people,

105:45  so that they might take heed to His statutes and keep His laws. Praise the LORD!

Chapter 106

106:1  Praise the LORD. O give thanks to the LORD; for He is good; for His mercy endures forever.

106:2  Who can utter the mighty acts of the LORD, or cause all His praise to be heard?

106:3  Blessed are those who keep judgment, he who does righteousness at all times.

106:4  Remember me, O LORD, with the favor of Your people; O visit me with Your salvation,

106:5  that I may see the good of Your chosen, that I may rejoice in the gladness of Your nation, to glory with Your inheritance.

106:6  We have sinned with our fathers, we have committed iniquity, we have done wickedly.

106:7  Our fathers did not understand Your wonders in Egypt; they did not remember the multitude of Your mercies, but rebelled at the sea, even at the Red Sea.

106:8  But He saved them for His name's sake, to make His mighty power known.

106:9  And He rebuked the Red Sea, and it was dried up; so He led them through the depths, as through the wilderness.

106:10  And He saved them from the hand of the hater, and redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.

106:11  And the waters covered their enemies; there was not one of them left.

106:12  Then they believed His words; they sang His praise.

106:13  They hurried and forgot His works; they did not wait for His counsel;

106:14  but they lusted greedily in the wilderness, and tested God in the desert.

106:15  And He gave them what they asked, but sent leanness into their soul.

106:16  And they were jealous of Moses in the camp, and Aaron the saint of the LORD.

106:17  The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan, and covered the company of Abiram.

106:18  And a fire was kindled in their company; the flame burned up the wicked.

106:19  They made a calf in Horeb, and worshiped the melted image.

106:20  And they changed their Glory into the likeness of an ox that eats grass.

106:21  They forgot God their Deliverer, who had done great things in Egypt;

106:22  wonderful works in the land of Ham, fearful things by the Red Sea.

106:23  And He said that He would destroy them, if Moses His chosen had not stood before Him in the breach, to turn away His wrath, so that He should not destroy them.

106:24  And they despised the pleasant land; they did not believe His word,

106:25  but murmured in their tents, and did not listen to the voice of the LORD.

106:26  And He lifted up His hand to them, to overthrow them in the wilderness;

106:27  to overthrow their seed also among the nations, and to scatter them in the lands.

106:28  And they joined themselves to Baal-peor, and ate the sacrifices of the dead,

106:29  and provoked Him to anger with their doings; and the plague broke in on them.

106:30  Then Phinehas stood and interceded, and the plague was stayed.

106:31  And it was counted to him for righteousness to all generations forevermore.

106:32  And they angered Him at the waters of strife so that it went ill with Moses for their sakes;

106:33  because they provoked his spirit so that he spoke rashly with his lips.

106:34  They did not destroy the nations as the LORD commanded them;

106:35  but were mixed among the nations, and learned their works.

106:36  And they served their idols, which were a snare to them.

106:37  Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons,

106:38  and shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan; and the land was defiled with blood.

106:39  And they were defiled with their works, and went lusting in their doings.

106:40  And the wrath of the LORD was kindled against His people, and He detested His inheritance.

106:41  And He gave them into the hand of the nations; and those who hated them ruled over them.

106:42  And their enemies oppressed them, and they were humbled under their hand.

106:43  Many times He delivered them, but they rebelled in their counsel and sank in their iniquities.

106:44  And He looked on their affliction when He heard their cry;

106:45  and He remembered His covenant for them, and was moved to pity, according to the multitude of His mercies.

106:46  And He gave them to tender mercies before the face of all their captors.

106:47  Save us, O LORD our God, and gather us from among the nations, to give thanks to Your holy name and to triumph in Your praise.

106:48  Blessed is the LORD God of Israel from everlasting to everlasting; and let all the people say, Amen. Praise the LORD!

Chapter 107

107:1  O give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; for His mercy endures forever.

107:2  Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy,

107:3  and gathered them out of the lands, from the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south.

107:4  They wandered in the wilderness, in a desert by the way; they found no city to dwell in.

107:5  Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them.

107:6  Then they cried to the LORD in their distress, and He delivered them out of their troubles.

107:7  And He guided them by the right way, so as to go to a city to live in.

107:8  Oh that men would praise the LORD for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the sons of man!

107:9  For He satisfies the thirsty soul, and fills the hungry soul with good.

107:10  Those who sit in the darkness and in the shadow of death, being chained in affliction and iron;

107:11  because they rebelled against the words of God, and despised the advice of the Most High.

107:12  and He humbled their heart with labor; they fell down, and none was helping.

107:13  Then they cried to the LORD in their distress, and He saved them out of their troubles.

107:14  He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and broke their bands in two.

107:15  Let them praise the LORD for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the sons of man!

107:16  For He has broken the gates of bronze, and cut the bars of iron in two.

107:17  Fools are afflicted because of their rebellion, and because of their iniquities.

107:18  Their soul hates all kinds of food; and they draw near the gates of death.

107:19  Then they cry to the LORD in their distress, and He saves them out of their troubles.

107:20  He sent His word and heals them, and delivers them from their pitfalls.

107:21  Let them praise the LORD for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the sons of man!

107:22  And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare His works with rejoicing!

107:23  They who go down to the sea in ships, who do business in great waters;

107:24  these see the works of the LORD and His wonders in the deep.

107:25  For He commands and raises the stormy wind, which lifts up its waves.

107:26  They mount up to the heavens, they go down again to the depths; their soul is melted because of trouble.

107:27  They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and all their wisdom is swallowed up.

107:28  And they cry to the LORD in their trouble, and He brings them out of their troubles.

107:29  He makes the storm a calm, so that its waves are still.

107:30  And they are glad because they are quiet; so He brings them to their desired haven.

107:31  Let them praise the LORD for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the sons of man!

107:32  And let them exalt Him in the congregation of the people, and praise Him in the gathering of the elders.

107:33  He sets rivers to a wilderness and water-springs to thirsty ground;

107:34  a fruitful land to a salty desert, because of the wickedness of those who dwell in it.

107:35  He turns the wilderness into a water-ponds, and dry ground into water-springs.

107:36  And He makes the hungry dwell there, so that they may prepare a city to live in;

107:37  and sow the fields, and plant vineyards, which may yield fruits of increase.

107:38  He also blesses them, so that they are multiplied greatly; and does not allow their cattle to become few.

107:39  Again, they have become few, and humbled through harshness, affliction, and sorrow.

107:40  He pours scorn on nobles, and causes them to wander in the wilderness, where there is no path.

107:41  But He raises up the poor from affliction and sets families like a flock.

107:42  The upright shall see and rejoice; and all iniquity shall stop its mouth.

107:43  Whoever is wise, and will observe these things, they shall understand the mercies of the LORD.

Chapter 108

108:1  A Song, A Psalm of David. O God, my heart is fixed; I will sing and I will give praise, even with my glory.

108:2  Awake, harp and lyre; I will awake early.

108:3  I will praise You, O LORD, among the peoples; and I will sing praises to You among the nations.

108:4  For Your mercy is great above the heavens; and Your truth reaches to the clouds.

108:5  Be lifted up, O God, above the heavens; and Your glory above all the earth;

108:6  so that Your beloved may be delivered; save with Your right hand, and answer me.

108:7  God has spoken in His holiness; I will rejoice, I will divide Shechem, and I will measure out the valley of Succoth.

108:8  Gilead is Mine; Manasseh is Mine and Ephraim is the strength of My head; Judah is My lawgiver;

108:9  Moab is My washpot; I will cast out My shoe over Edom; I will triumph over Philistia.

108:10  Who will bring me into the strong city? Who will lead me into Edom?

108:11  O God, have You not cast us off? And, O God, will You not go out with our armies?

108:12  Give us help from trouble; for vain is the deliverance of man.

108:13  Through God we shall do mighty things; for He shall trample our enemies.

Chapter 109

109:1  To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. O God of my praise, do not be silent;

109:2  for the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me; they spoke against me with a lying tongue.

109:3  And they surrounded me with words of hatred; and fought against me without a cause.

109:4  For my love they are my foes; but I am in prayer.

109:5  And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love.

109:6  Set a wicked man over him; and let an adversary stand at his right hand,

109:7  when he is judged, let him be condemned; and let his prayer become sin.

109:8  Let his days be few; let another take his office.

109:9  Let his sons be fatherless, and his wife a widow.

109:10  Let his sons always beg and be vagabonds, and seek food out of their ruins.

109:11  Let the money-lender lay a snare for all that is his; and let strangers take the fruit of his labor.

109:12  Let there be none to give mercy to him; nor any to favor his fatherless children.

109:13  Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out.

109:14  Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered to the LORD; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out.

109:15  Let them be always before the LORD, that He may cut off their memory from the earth,

109:16  because he did not remember to do mercy, but persecuted the poor and needy man, and sought to kill the broken-hearted.

109:17  Yea, he loved cursing, so let it come to him; he delighted not in blessing, and it was far from him.

109:18  As he clothed himself with cursing, as with his robe, so let it come into his bowels like water, and like oil into his bones.

109:19  Let it be to him as the robe which covers him, and for a girdle with which he is always clothed.

109:20  This is the reward of my foes from the LORD, and of them who speak evil against my soul.

109:21  But You, Lord Jehovah, deal kindly with me for Your name's sake; because Your mercy is good, deliver me.

109:22  For I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me.

109:23  As a shadow when it is stretched out, I am gone; I am shaken off like the locust.

109:24  My knees stumble from fasting; and my flesh is losing its fatness.

109:25  And I became a shame to them; they looked on me; they shook their heads.

109:26  Help me, O LORD my God; save me according to Your mercy;

109:27  and they will know that this is Your hand; that You, LORD, have done it.

109:28  They will curse, but You will bless; they arise, and are ashamed; but let Your servant rejoice.

109:29  Let my foes be clothed with shame, and let them cover themselves with their own shame, as with a cloak.

109:30  I will greatly praise the LORD with my mouth; yea, I will praise Him among the multitude.

109:31  For He shall stand at the right hand of the poor, to save him from those who condemn his soul.

Chapter 110

110:1  A Psalm of David. The LORD said to my Lord, Sit at My right hand until I place Your enemies as Your footstool.

110:2  The LORD shall send the rod of Your strength out of Zion; rule in the midst of Your enemies.

110:3  Your people shall be willing in the day of Your power, in holy adornment from the womb of the morning: You have the dew of Your youth.

110:4  The LORD has sworn, and will not repent, You are a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.

110:5  The Lord at Your right hand shall strike through kings in the day of His wrath.

110:6  He shall judge among the nations, He shall fill them with dead bodies; He shall shatter heads over much of the earth.

110:7  He shall drink of the brook in the way; therefore He shall lift up the head.

Chapter 111

111:1  Praise the LORD! I will praise the LORD with all my heart, in the council of the upright, and of the congregation.

111:2  The works of the LORD are great, sought out by all those who have pleasure in them.

111:3  His work is honorable and glorious; and His righteousness is standing forever.

111:4  He has made His wonderful works to be remembered; the LORD is gracious and full of pity.

111:5  He has given food to those who fear Him; He will always be mindful of His covenant.

111:6  He has shown His people the power of His works, to give to them the inheritance of the nations.

111:7  The works of His hands are truth and judgment; all His commands are true,

111:8  standing fast forever and ever; they are done in truth and uprightness.

111:9  He sent redemption to His people; He has commanded His covenant forever; holy and awesome is His name.

111:10  The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all practicing them have good understanding; His praise stands forever.

Chapter 112

112:1  Praise the LORD! Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, who delights greatly in His commandments.

112:2  His seed shall be mighty on earth; the generation of the upright shall be blessed.

112:3  Wealth and riches shall be in his house, and his righteousness stands forever.

112:4  To the upright there arises light in the darkness; he is gracious and full of pity and righteousness.

112:5  A good man shows favor, and lends; he will guide his business with fairness.

112:6  Surely he shall not be moved forever; the righteous shall be remembered forever.

112:7  He shall not be afraid of bad news; his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD.

112:8  His heart is sure; he shall not be afraid though he sees his oppressors.

112:9  He has scattered abroad; he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures forever; his horn shall be lifted up with honor.

112:10  The wicked shall see and be vexed; he shall gnash with his teeth and melt away; the desire of the wicked shall perish.

Chapter 113

113:1  Praise the LORD! Praise, O servants of the LORD, praise the name of the LORD.

113:2  Blessed is the name of the LORD from this time forth and forevermore.

113:3  From the rising of the sun to its going down, the LORD's name is to be praised.

113:4  The LORD is high above all nations, and His glory above the heavens.

113:5  Who is like the LORD our God, who dwells on high,

113:6  who humbles Himself to behold the things in the heavens and in the earth!

113:7  He raises up the poor out of the dust, and lifts the needy out of the dunghill,

113:8  in order to make him sit with nobles, with the nobles of his people.

113:9  He causes the barren to dwell in the house as a joyful mother of sons. Praise the LORD!

Chapter 114

114:1  When Israel went out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language,

114:2  Judah was His sanctuary, and Israel was His kingdom.

114:3  The sea saw it and fled; Jordan was driven back.

114:4  The mountains skipped like rams, and the little hills like lambs.

114:5  What ailed you, O sea, that you fled? O Jordan, that you turned back,

114:6  O mountains that skipped like rams, O little hills like lambs?

114:7  Earth, tremble at the presence of the LORD, at the presence of the God of Jacob,

114:8  who turned the rock into a pool of water, the flint into a fountain of waters.

Chapter 115

115:1  Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to Your name give glory, for Your mercy and for Your truth's sake.

115:2  Why should the nations say, Where now is their God?

115:3  But our God is in Heaven; He has done whatever He has pleased.

115:4  Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men's hands.

115:5  They have mouths, but they do not speak; they have eyes, but they do not see;

115:6  they have ears, but they do not hear; they have noses, but they do not smell;

115:7  they have hands, but they do not handle; they have feet, but they do not walk; they do not mutter through their throat.

115:8  The ones who make them are like them, and everyone who trusts in them.

115:9  O Israel, trust in the LORD; He is their help and their shield.

115:10  O house of Aaron, trust in the LORD; He is their help and their shield.

115:11  You who fear the LORD, trust in the LORD; He is their help and their shield.

115:12  The LORD has been mindful of us; He will bless us; He will bless the house of Israel; He will bless the house of Aaron.

115:13  He will bless those who fear the LORD, both small and great.

115:14  The LORD shall add on to you, even on you and on your sons.

115:15  You are blessed of the LORD who made the heavens and the earth.

115:16  The heavens, even the heavens, are the LORD's; but the earth He has given to the sons of men.

115:17  The dead do not praise the LORD, nor do any who go down into silence.

115:18  But we will bless the LORD from this time forth and forevermore. Praise the LORD!

Chapter 116

116:1  I love the LORD because He hears my voice and my prayers.

116:2  Because He has bowed down His ear to me, therefore I will call on Him in my days.

116:3  The sorrows of death hemmed me in, and the pains of hell took hold on me; I found trouble and sorrow.

116:4  Then I called on the name of the LORD; O LORD, I beseech You, deliver my soul.

116:5  Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; yea, our God is merciful.

116:6  The LORD keeps the simple; I was brought low, and He helped me.

116:7  Return to your rest, O my soul; for the LORD has dealt bountifully with you.

116:8  For You have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from falling.

116:9  I will walk before the LORD in the land of the living.

116:10  I believed, therefore I have spoken; I was greatly afflicted;

116:11  I said in my haste, All men are liars.

116:12  What shall I give to the LORD for all His benefits toward me?

116:13  I will take the cup of salvation, and call on the name of the LORD.

116:14  I will pay my vows to the LORD now in the presence of all His people.

116:15  Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His saints.

116:16  O LORD, truly I am Your servant; I am Your servant, and the son of Your handmaid; You have loosed my bonds.

116:17  I will offer to You the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call on the name of the LORD.

116:18  I will pay my vows to the LORD now in the presence of all His people,

116:19  in the courts of the LORD's house, in the midst of you, O Jerusalem. Praise the LORD!

Chapter 117

117:1  O praise the LORD, all nations; praise Him, all peoples.

117:2  For His merciful kindness is great toward us; and the truth of the LORD endures forever. Praise the LORD!

Chapter 118

118:1  O give thanks to the LORD; for He is good; because His mercy endures forever.

118:2  Let Israel now say that His mercy endures forever.

118:3  Let the house of Aaron now say that His mercy endures forever.

118:4  Let those who fear the LORD now say that His mercy endures forever.

118:5  I called on the LORD in distress; the LORD answered me, and set me in a large place.

118:6  The LORD is for me, I will not fear; what can man do to me?

118:7  The LORD is for me among those who help me; and I will see my desire on those who hate me.

118:8  It is better to trust in the LORD than to trust in man.

118:9  It is better to trust in the LORD than to trust in princes.

118:10  All the nations surround me, but in the name of the LORD I will destroy them.

118:11  They surround me; yea, they surround me, but in the name of the LORD I will destroy them.

118:12  They surround me like bees; they are put out like the fire of thorns; for in the name of the LORD I will cut them off.

118:13  You have thrust hard at me so that I might fall; but the LORD helped me.

118:14  The LORD is my strength and song, and He is my salvation.

118:15  The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tents of the righteous; the right hand of the LORD does mighty things.

118:16  The right hand of the LORD is lifted up; the right hand of the LORD does mighty things.

118:17  I shall not die, but live and declare the works of the LORD.

118:18  The LORD has sorely chastened me; but He has not given me over to death.

118:19  Open to me the gates of righteousness; I will go into them, and I will praise the LORD.

118:20  This is the gate of the LORD into which the righteous shall enter.

118:21  I will praise You; for You have heard me, and are my salvation.

118:22  The Stone which the builders refused has become the Head of the corner.

118:23  This is from the LORD; it is marvelous in our eyes.

118:24  This is the day which the LORD has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

118:25  Save now, I beseech You, O LORD; O LORD, I beseech You, cause us to prosper now.

118:26  Blessed is He coming in the name of the LORD; we have blessed You out of the house of the LORD.

118:27  God is the LORD, who gives light to us. Tie the sacrifice with cords to the horns of the altar.

118:28  You are my God, and I will exalt You; You are my God, I will praise You.

118:29  Oh give thanks to the LORD; for He is good; for His mercy endures forever.

Chapter 119

119:1  ALEPH. Blessed are the upright in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD.

119:2  Blessed are they who keep His testimonies, and who seek Him with all the heart.

119:3  They also do no iniquity; they walk in His ways.

119:4  You have commanded us to keep Your commandments carefully.

119:5  O that my ways were fixed to keep Your statutes!

119:6  Then I shall not be ashamed, when I have respect to all Your commandments.

119:7  I will praise You with uprightness of heart when I have learned Your righteous judgments.

119:8  I will keep Your statutes; do not forsake me completely.

119:9  BETH. With what shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word.

119:10  With all my heart I have sought You; do not let me wander from Your commandments.

119:11  I have hidden Your word in my heart, so that I might not sin against You.

119:12  Blessed are You, O LORD; teach me Your statutes.

119:13  With my lips I have declared all the judgments of Your mouth.

119:14  I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies, as much as in all riches.

119:15  I will think on Your commandments and have respect to Your ways.

119:16  I will delight myself in Your statutes; I will not forget Your word.

119:17  GIMEL. Deal bountifully with Your servant, that I may live and keep Your word.

119:18  Open my eyes, so that I may behold wonderful things out of Your law.

119:19  I am a stranger in the earth; do not hide Your commandments from me.

119:20  My soul breaks for the longing that it has to Your judgments at all times.

119:21  You have rebuked the proud who are cursed, who go astray from Your commandments.

119:22  Remove cursing and scorn from me; for I have kept Your testimonies.

119:23  Princes also sat and spoke against me; but Your servant thought on Your statutes.

119:24  Your testimonies also are my delight and my advisers.

119:25  DALETH. My soul clings to the dust; give me life according to Your word.

119:26  I have declared my ways, and You hear me; teach me Your statutes.

119:27  Make me to understand the way of Your commandments, and I will speak of Your wonderful works.

119:28  My soul weeps for grief; strengthen me according to Your word.

119:29  Remove from me the way of lying; and grant me Your law graciously.

119:30  I have chosen the way of truth; I have laid Your judgments before me.

119:31  I have stuck to Your testimonies; O LORD, do not put me to shame.

119:32  I will run the way of Your commandments, when You shall enlarge my heart.

119:33  HE. O LORD, teach me the way of Your statutes, and I shall keep it to the end.

119:34  Give me understanding, and I shall keep Your law; yea, I shall observe it with all my heart.

119:35  Cause me to walk in the path of Your commandments; for I delight in them.

119:36  Bow my heart to Your testimonies, and not to unjust gain.

119:37  Turn away my eyes from seeing vanity; in Your way give me life.

119:38  Make Your word sure to Your servant, who is devoted to Your fear.

119:39  Turn away my shame which I fear; for Your judgments are good.

119:40  Behold, I have longed after Your commandments; in Your righteousness give me life.

119:41  VAU. Let Your mercies come to me, O LORD, even according to Your salvation, according to Your word.

119:42  And I shall have something to answer him who mocks me; for I trust in Your word.

119:43  And take not the word of truth utterly out of my mouth; for I have hoped in Your judgments.

119:44  And I shall keep Your law continually forever and ever.

119:45  And I will always walk in a broad place; for I seek Your commandments.

119:46  I will speak of Your testimonies also before kings, and will not be ashamed.

119:47  And I will delight myself in Your commandments, which I have loved.

119:48  And I will lift up my hands to Your commandments which I have loved; and I will think on Your statutes.

119:49  ZAYIN. Remember the word to Your servant, on which You have caused me to hope.

119:50  This is my comfort in my affliction; for Your word has given me life.

119:53  Horror has taken hold on me because of the wicked who forsake Your law.

119:60  I made haste and did not delay to keep Your commandments.

119:61  The bands of the wicked have robbed me; but I have not forgotten Your law.

119:62  At midnight I will rise to give thanks to You because of Your righteous judgments.

119:63  I am a companion of all who fear You, and of those who keep Your commandments.

119:64  O LORD, the earth is full of Your mercy; teach me Your statutes.

119:65  TETH. You have dealt well with Your servant, O LORD, according to Your word.

119:66  Teach me good judgment and knowledge; for I have believed Your commandments.

119:67  Before I was afflicted I went astray; but now I have kept Your word.

119:69  The proud have forged a lie against me; I will keep Your commandments with all my heart.

119:83  For I am like a wineskin in the smoke; I do not forget Your statutes.

119:84  How many are the days of Your servant? When will You carry out judgment on my persecutors?

119:85  The proud have dug pits for me, which are not according to Your law.

119:86  All Your commandments are faithful; they persecute me with lying; help me.

119:87  They had almost finished me on earth; but I did not forsake Your commandments.

119:88  According to Your loving-kindness give me life; so shall I keep the testimony of Your mouth.

119:89  LAMED. Forever, O LORD, Your word is settled in the heavens.

119:90  Your faithfulness is to all generations; You have founded the earth, and it remains.

119:91  They stand to this day according to Your ordinances; for all are Your servants.

119:92  Unless Your law had been my delight, I should then have perished in my affliction.

119:117  Hold me up, and I shall be safe; and I will always have respect to Your statutes.

119:118  You have trampled all those who go astray from Your statutes; for their deceit is falsehood.

119:119  You put away all the wicked of the earth like waste; therefore I love Your testimonies.

119:120  My flesh trembles in fear of You; and I am afraid of Your judgments.

119:121  AYIN. I have done the just and right thing; leave me not to those who crush me.

119:122  Be surety for Your servant for good; let not the proud press me down.

119:155  Salvation is far from the wicked, for they do not seek Your statutes.

Chapter 120

120:1  A Song of degrees. In my trouble I cried to the LORD, and He heard me.

120:2  Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips, from a deceitful tongue.

120:3  What shall be given to you? Or what shall be done to you, O false tongue?

120:4  Sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals of broom.

120:5  Woe is me, that I live in Mesech; I dwell in the tents of Kedar!

120:6  My soul has long dwelt with a hater of peace.

120:7  I am for peace; but when I speak, they are for war.

Chapter 121

121:1  A Song of degrees. I will lift up my eyes to the hills. Where shall my help come from?

121:2  My help comes from the LORD, who made Heaven and earth.

121:3  He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber.

121:4  Behold, He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.

121:5  The LORD is your keeper; the LORD is your shade on your right hand.

121:6  The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night.

121:7  The LORD shall keep you from all evil; He shall keep your soul.

121:8  The LORD shall keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth, and even forevermore.

Chapter 122

122:1  A Song of degrees; of David. I was glad when they said to me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.

122:2  Our feet shall stand within your gates, O Jerusalem.

122:3  Jerusalem is built like a city that is all joined together as one;

122:4  where the tribes go up, the tribes of the LORD, to the testimony of Israel, to give thanks to the name of the LORD.

122:5  For there were set the thrones of judgment, the thrones of the house of David.

122:6  Pray for the peace of Jerusalem; those who love you shall be blessed.

122:7  Peace be within your walls, blessings within your palaces.

122:8  For my brothers and companions' sakes, I will now say, Peace be within you.

122:9  Because of the house of the LORD our God I will seek your good.

Chapter 123

123:1  A Song of degrees. To You I lift up my eyes, O Dweller in Heaven.

123:2  Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their masters; as the eyes of a maiden to the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait on the LORD our God, until He shall have mercy on us.

123:3  Have mercy on us, O LORD, have mercy on us; for we are exceedingly filled with scorn.

123:4  Our soul is exceedingly filled with the contempt of those who are at ease, with the scorn of the proud.

Chapter 124

124:1  A Song of degrees; of David. Except that it was the LORD who was for us, O may Israel say;

124:2  Except that it was the LORD who was for us when men rose up against us,

124:3  then they would have swallowed us up alive, when their wrath was kindled against us;

124:4  then the waters would have flowed over us, the stream would have gone over our soul;

124:5  then the proud waters would have gone over our soul.

124:6  Blessed is the LORD, who has not given us as a prey to their teeth.

124:7  Our soul has escaped like a bird out of the snare of the fowlers; the snare is broken, and we have escaped.

124:8  Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made the heavens and earth.

Chapter 125

125:1  A Song of degrees. They who trust in the LORD shall be like Mount Zion; it is not shaken, but remains forever.

125:2  As the mountains are all around Jerusalem, so the LORD is all around His people from this time and forever.

125:3  For the rod of the wicked shall not rest on the lot of the righteous; lest the righteous put forth their hands to iniquity.

125:4  Do good, O LORD, to the good, and to the upright in their hearts.

125:5  And those who turn aside to their crooked ways, the LORD shall lead them forth with the workers of iniquity; peace shall be on Israel.

Chapter 126

126:1  A Song of degrees. When the LORD turned again the captivity of Zion, we were like those who dream.

126:2  Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing; then they said among the nations, The LORD has done great things with them.

126:3  Great things did the LORD to work with us and we are glad.

126:4  Turn again our captivity, O LORD, as the streams in the south.

126:5  Those who sow in tears shall reap in joy.

126:6  He who goes forth and weeps, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.

Chapter 127

127:1  A Song of degrees for Solomon. Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; unless the LORD keeps the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.

127:2  It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows; for so He gives His beloved sleep.

127:3  Lo, children are the inheritance of the LORD; the fruit of the womb is a reward.

127:4  As arrows in the hand of a mighty man, so are the sons of the young.

127:5  Blessed is the man who has his quiver full of them; they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.

Chapter 128

128:1  A Song of degrees. Blessed is everyone who fears the LORD, who walks in His ways.

128:2  For you shall surely eat the labor of your hands; you shall be happy, and all is well with you.

128:3  Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine by the sides of your house; your sons shall be like olive plants around your table.

128:4  Behold! So shall the man be blessed who fears the LORD.

128:5  The LORD shall bless you out of Zion; and you shall see the good of Jerusalem all the days of your life.

128:6  Yea, you shall see the sons of your sons. Peace be on Israel.

Chapter 129

129:1  A Song of degrees. Many times they have afflicted me from my youth, Israel may now say;

129:2  many times they have afflicted me from my youth; yet they have not prevailed over me.

129:3  The plowers plowed on my back; they made their furrows long.

129:4  The LORD is righteous; He cuts off the cords of the wicked.

129:5  Let them all be ashamed and turned back, those who hate Zion.

129:6  Let them be like the grass on the housetops, which dries up before it grows up,

129:7  with which the reaper does not fill his hand, nor the binder of sheaves his bosom.

129:8  And those who pass by have never said, The blessing of the LORD be on you; we bless you in the name of the LORD.

Chapter 130

130:1  A Song of degrees. Out of the depths I have cried to You, O LORD.

130:2  Lord, hear my voice, and let Your ears listen to the voice of My prayers.

130:3  If You will keep in mind iniquities, O Jehovah, who shall stand, O Lord?

130:4  But there is forgiveness with You, that You may be feared.

130:5  I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in His word I hope.

130:6  My soul waits for the LORD more than morning-watchers who are watching for the morning.

130:7  Let Israel hope in the LORD; for with the LORD there is mercy, and with Him is plentiful redemption.

130:8  And He shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities.

Chapter 131

131:1  A Song of degrees; of David. O LORD, my heart is not proud, nor my eyes lofty; nor have I walked in great things, nor in things too wondrous for me.

131:2  Surely I have behaved and have quieted my soul, as one weaned by its mother; my soul on me is like one weaned.

131:3  Let Israel hope in the LORD from this moment and forever.

Chapter 132

132:1  A Song of degrees. O LORD, remember David and all his afflictions,

132:2  how he swore to the LORD; he vowed to the mighty One of Jacob.

132:3  Surely I will not come into the tent of my house, nor go up into my bed;

132:4  I will not give sleep to my eyes, nor slumber to my eyelids,

132:5  until I find out a place for the LORD, a dwelling-place for the Mighty One of Jacob.

132:6  Lo, we heard of it at Ephratah; we found it in the fields of the wood.

132:7  We will go into His dwellings; we will worship at His footstool.

132:8  Arise, O LORD, into Your rest; You, and the ark of Your strength.

132:9  Let Your priests be clothed with righteousness, and Your saints shout for joy.

132:10  For Your servant David's sake, turn not away the face of Your anointed.

132:11  The LORD has sworn to David in truth; He will not turn from it; Of the fruit of your body I will set on the throne for you.

132:12  If your sons will keep My covenant and My testimonies which I shall teach them, their sons shall also sit on your throne forever.

132:13  The LORD has chosen Zion; He has desired it for His dwelling-place.

132:14  This is My rest forever; here I will dwell; for I have desired it.

132:15  I will greatly bless her food; I will satisfy her poor with bread.

132:16  I also will clothe her priests with salvation; and her saints shall shout aloud for joy.

132:17  There I will make the horn of David to bud; I have prepared a lamp for My anointed.

132:18  I will clothe his enemies with shame; but his crown shall shine on him.

Chapter 133

133:1  A Song of degrees; of David. Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity!

133:2  It is like the precious ointment on the head that ran down on the beard, Aaron's beard, that went down to the mouth of his garments;

133:3  like the dew of Hermon that came down on the mountains of Zion; for there the LORD commanded the blessing, life forevermore.

Chapter 134

134:1  A Song of degrees. Behold, bless the LORD, all servants of the LORD, who stand by night in the house of the LORD.

134:2  Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, and bless the LORD.

134:3  May the LORD, who made the heavens and earth, bless you out of Zion.

Chapter 135

135:1  Praise the LORD! Praise the name of the LORD; praise Him, servants of the LORD.

135:2  Those who stand in the house of the LORD, in the courts of the house of our God,

135:3  praise the LORD; for the LORD is good; sing praises to His name, for it is full of delight.

135:4  For the LORD has chosen Jacob to Himself, and Israel for His peculiar treasure.

135:5  For I know that the LORD is great, and our LORD is above all gods.

135:6  Every thing the LORD pleased, He did in the heavens and in earth, and in the seas and all deep places.

135:7  He causes the vapors to rise from the end of the earth; He makes lightnings for the rain; He brings wind out of His storehouses.

135:8  He who struck the first-born of Egypt, both of man and animal;

135:9  who sent signs and wonders into your midst, O Egypt, on Pharaoh and on all his servants;

135:10  who struck great nations and killed mighty kings,

135:11  Sihon king of the Amorites, and Og king of Bashan, and all the kingdoms of Canaan,

135:12  and gave their land as an inheritance, an inheritance to Israel His people.

135:13  Your name, O LORD, endures forever, and Your memorial, O LORD, throughout all generations.

135:14  For the LORD will judge His people, and He will have pity on His servants.

135:15  The idols of the nations are silver and gold, the work of men's hands.

135:16  They have mouths, but they do not speak; they have eyes, but they do not see;

135:17  they have ears, but they do not hear, nor is there breath in their mouths.

135:18  Those who make them are like them, everyone who trusts in them.

135:19  Bless the LORD, O house of Israel; bless the LORD, O house of Aaron;

135:20  bless the LORD, O house of Levi; you who fear the LORD, bless the LORD.

135:21  Blessed is the LORD out of Zion, who dwells at Jerusalem. Praise the LORD!

Chapter 136

136:1  Oh give thanks to the LORD; for He is good; for His mercy endures forever.

136:2  Oh give thanks to the God of gods; for His mercy endures forever.

136:3  Oh give thanks to the Lord of lords; for His mercy endures forever.

136:4  To Him who alone does great wonders; for His mercy endures forever.

136:5  To Him who by wisdom made the heavens; for His mercy endures forever.

136:6  To Him who stretched out the earth above the waters; for His mercy endures forever.

136:7  To Him who made great lights; for His mercy endures forever.

136:8  The sun to rule by day; for His mercy endures forever.

136:9  the moon and stars to rule by night; for His mercy endures forever.

136:18  and killed famous kings; for His mercy endures forever:

136:19  Sihon king of the Amorites; for His mercy endures forever;

136:21  and gave their land for an inheritance; for His mercy endures forever;

136:22  an inheritance to Israel His servant; for His mercy endures forever.

136:23  Who remembered us in our low estate; for His mercy endures forever;

136:24  and has redeemed us from our enemies; for His mercy endures forever.

136:25  Who gives food to all flesh; for His mercy endures forever.

136:26  Oh give thanks to the God of Heaven; for His mercy endures forever.

Chapter 137

137:1  There we sat down by the rivers of Babylon; also, we wept when we remembered Zion.

137:2  We hung our lyres on the willows in its midst.

137:3  For there our captors demanded a song from us; and our plunderers demanded gladness, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion.

137:4  How shall we sing the LORD's song in a foreign land?

137:5  If I forget you, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget.

137:6  If I do not remember you, let my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth; if I do not prefer Jerusalem above my chief joy.

137:7  Remember, O LORD, the sons of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Make it bare! Make it bare, even to the foundation of it!

137:8  O daughter of Babylon, O destroyed one! Blessed is he who will repay to you your reward which you rewarded to us.

137:9  Blessed is he who seizes and dashes your little ones against the stones.

Chapter 138

138:1  A Psalm of David. I will praise You with my whole heart; before the gods I will sing praise to You.

138:2  I will worship toward Your holy temple, and praise Your name for Your loving-kindness and for Your truth's sake; for You have magnified Your word above all Your name.

138:3  In the day when I cried You answered me and made me bold with strength in my soul.

138:4  All the kings of the earth shall praise You, O LORD, when they hear the words of Your mouth.

138:5  Yea, they shall sing in the ways of the LORD; for great is the glory of the LORD.

138:6  Though the LORD is high, yet He has respect to the lowly; but the proud He knows afar off.

138:7  If I walk in the midst of trouble, You will give me life; You shall stretch forth Your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and Your right hand shall save me.

138:8  The LORD will perfect His work in me; Your mercy, O LORD, endures forever; do not forsake the work of Your own hands.

Chapter 139

139:1  To the Chief Musician, A Psalm of David. O LORD, You have searched me and have known me.

139:2  You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off.

139:3  You search my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways.

139:4  For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, You know it altogether.

139:5  You have closed me in behind and in front, and laid Your hand on me.

139:6  Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot go up to it.

139:7  Where shall I go from Your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from Your presence?

139:8  If I go up into Heaven, You are there; if I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there.

139:9  If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the furthest parts of the sea;

139:10  even there shall Your hand lead me, and Your right hand shall hold me.

139:11  If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me, even the night shall be light around me.

139:12  Yea, the darkness does not hide from You; but the night shines as the day; as is the darkness, so is the light to You.

139:13  For You have possessed my inward parts; You have covered me in my mother's womb.

139:14  I will praise You; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are marvelous and my soul knows it very well.

139:15  My bones were not hidden from You when I was made in secret and skillfully formed in the lowest parts of the earth.

139:16  Your eyes saw my embryo; and in Your book all my members were written, the days they were formed, and not one was among them.

139:17  How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them!

139:18  If I should count them, they are more than the sand; when I awake, I am still with You.

139:19  Surely You will slay the wicked, O God; and bloody men, depart from me.

139:20  Who will speak against You maliciously? Your enemies are lifted up with vanity.

139:21  O LORD, do I not hate those who hate You? And am I not grieved with those who rise up against You?

139:22  I hate them with perfect hatred; I count them my enemies.

139:23  Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my thoughts,

139:24  and see if any wicked way is in me; and lead me in the way everlasting.

Chapter 140

140:1  To the Chief Musician, A Psalm of David. Deliver me, O LORD, from the evil man; keep me from the violent man,

140:2  who devised evil things in the heart; they are always gathered for war.

140:3  They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent; adders' poison is under their lips. Selah.

140:4  O LORD, keep me from the hands of the wicked; keep me from the violent man who purposed to trip up my steps.

140:5  The proud have hidden cords and a trap for me; they have spread a net by the wayside; they have set snares for me. Selah.

140:6  I said to the LORD, You are my God; O LORD, hear the voice of my prayers.

140:7  O Lord Jehovah, the strength of my salvation, You have covered my head in the day of battle.

140:8  O LORD, do not grant the desires of the wicked; do not help his wicked plans, lest they praise themselves. Selah.

140:9  As for the head of those around me, let the evil of their own lips cover them.

140:10  Let burning coals fall on them; let them be cast into the fire; into deep pits, so that they do not rise up again.

140:11  Do not let an evil speaker be established in the earth; evil shall hunt the violent man to overthrow him.

140:12  I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted and the right of the poor.

140:13  Surely the righteous shall give thanks to Your name; the upright shall dwell in Your presence.

Chapter 141

141:1  A Psalm of David. O LORD, I cry to You; make haste to me, give ear to my voice when I cry to You.

141:2  Let my prayer be set forth before You as incense, and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

141:3  Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.

141:4  Let not my heart turn aside to any evil thing, to practice wicked works with men who work iniquity; and let me not eat of their delicacies.

141:5  Let the righteous strike me; it shall be a kindness; and let him correct me, it is oil on my head, let not my head refuse it; for still my prayer also shall be against their wickedness.

141:6  When their judges are overthrown in stony places, they shall hear my words; for they are sweet.

141:7  Our bones are scattered at the grave's mouth, as when one cuts and splits wood on the earth.

141:8  But my eyes are on You, O Lord Jehovah; in You I take refuge, do not leave my soul naked.

141:9  Keep me from the traps which they have laid for me, and the snares of the workers of evil.

141:10  Let the wicked fall into their own nets together, while I escape.

Chapter 142

142:1  An Instruction of David; A Prayer when he was in the cave. I cried to the LORD with my voice; with my voice I prayed to the LORD.

142:2  I poured out my prayer before Him; I declared my trouble before Him.

142:3  When my spirit fainted within me, then You knew my path. In the way in which I walked they have secretly laid a snare for me.

142:4  I looked on my right hand, and I watched, but no one recognized me; escape was lost to me; no man cared for my soul.

142:5  I cried to You, O LORD; I said, You are my refuge and my portion in the land of the living.

142:6  Hear my cry; for I am brought very low; deliver me from my pursuers; for they are stronger than I.

142:7  Bring my soul out of prison that I may praise Your name; the righteous shall gather around me; for You shall reward me.

Chapter 143

143:1  A Psalm of David. Hear my prayer O LORD; give ear to my supplications; in Your faithfulness and in Your righteousness answer me.

143:2  And do not enter into judgment with Your servant, for in Your sight no one living is just.

143:3  For the enemy has pursued my soul; he has beaten my life down to the ground; he has made me dwell in darkness, as those long dead.

143:4  And my spirit has fainted within me; my heart has become weary within me.

143:5  I remember the days of old; I think on all Your works; I muse on the work of Your hands.

143:6  I stretch forth my hands to You; my soul thirsts after You like a thirsty land. Selah.

143:7  Hear me quickly, O LORD; my spirit fails; do not hide Your face from me, lest I be like those who go down into the Pit.

143:8  Cause me to hear Your loving-kindness in the morning, for I do trust in You; cause me to know the way in which I should walk, for I lift up my soul to You.

143:9  Deliver me, O LORD, from my enemies; I flee to You to hide me.

143:10  Teach me to do Your will; for You are my God; Your Spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness.

143:11  O LORD, for Your name's sake enliven me; for Your righteousness' sake, bring my soul out of trouble.

143:12  And out of Your mercy cut off my enemies, and destroy all those who afflict my soul; for I am Your servant.

Chapter 144

144:1  A Psalm of David. Blessed is the LORD my Rock, who teaches My hands for war, my fingers for battle.

144:2  He is my goodness and my fortress; my high tower and my deliverer; my shield and He in whom I trust; who humbles my people under me.

144:3  O LORD, what is man that You take knowledge of him! Or the son of man, that You esteem him?

144:4  Man is like vanity; his days are like a shadow that passes away.

144:5  Bow down Your heavens, O LORD, and come down; touch the mountains, and they shall smoke.

144:6  Cast forth lightning and scatter them; shoot out Your arrows and destroy them.

144:7  Send Your hand from above; rescue me, and deliver me out of great waters, from the hand of a foreigner's sons;

144:8  because their mouth has spoken vanity, and their right hand is a right hand of lies.

144:9  I will sing a new song to You, O God; on a harp of ten strings I will sing praises to You.

144:10  It is You who gives salvation to kings; who delivers David His servant from the hurtful sword.

144:11  Rescue me, and deliver me from the hand of foreigners' sons, because their mouth has spoken vanity, and their right hand is a right hand of falsehood;

144:12  so that our sons may be like plants grown up in their youth; and our daughters may be like corner-stones, polished like a palace building;

144:13  and our storehouses may be full, furnishing kind to kind; and our flocks may breed thousands and ten thousands outside;

144:14  and our oxen may be loaded; there is no break in nor going out and no crying in our streets.

144:15  Blessed are the peoples who are so; blessed are the peoples to whom Jehovah is his God.

Chapter 145

145:1  Praise. Of David. I will lift You up, my God, O King; and I will bless Your name forever and ever.

145:2  Every day I will bless You; and I will praise Your name forever and ever.

145:3  Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and there is no searching out His greatness.

145:4  One generation shall praise Your works to another, and shall declare Your mighty acts.

145:5  I will speak of the glorious honor of Your majesty, and of Your wonderful works.

145:6  And men shall speak of the might of Your awesome works; and I will declare Your greatness.

145:7  They shall pour forth the memory of Your great goodness, and shall sing of Your righteousness.

145:8  The LORD is gracious and full of pity; slow to anger, and of great mercy.

145:9  The LORD is good to all; and His tender mercies are over all His works.

145:10  All Your works shall praise You, O LORD; and Your saints shall bless You.

145:11  They shall speak of the glory of Your kingdom and talk of Your power,

145:12  to make known to the sons of men His mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of His kingdom.

145:13  Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and Your rule endures throughout all generations.

145:14  The LORD upholds all who fall, and raises up all those bowed down.

145:15  The eyes of all wait on You; and You give them their food in due season.

145:16  You open Your hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing.

145:17  The LORD is righteous in all His ways and holy in all His works.

145:18  The LORD is near all those who call on Him, all those who call on Him in truth.

145:19  He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him; He also will hear their cry, and will save them.

145:20  The LORD watches over all those who love Him; but all the wicked He will destroy.

145:21  My mouth shall speak the praise of the LORD; and let all flesh bless His holy name forever and ever.

Chapter 146

146:1  Praise the LORD. Praise the LORD, O my soul.

146:2  While I live I will praise the LORD; I will sing praises to my God while I have any being.

146:3  Do not put your trust in princes, nor in the son of man in whom there is no salvation.

146:4  His breath goes forth; he returns to the earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.

146:5  Blessed is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, whose help is in the LORD his God,

146:6  who made the heavens and earth, the sea and all that is in it; who keeps truth forever;

146:7  who carries out judgment for the mistreated; who gives food to the hungry. The LORD lets the prisoners loose;

146:8  the Lord opens the eyes of the blind; the LORD raises those who are bowed down; the LORD loves the righteous;

146:9  the LORD preserves the strangers; He relieves the orphan and widow, but the way of the wicked He turns upside down.

146:10  The LORD shall reign forever, even your God, O Zion, to all generations. Praise the LORD!

Chapter 147

147:1  Praise the LORD; for it is good to sing praises to our God; for praise is delightful and becoming.

147:2  The LORD builds up Jerusalem; He gathers together the outcasts of Israel.

147:3  He heals the broken-hearted, and binds up their wounds.

147:4  He appoints the number of the stars; He calls them all by their names.

147:5  Great is our LORD, and of great power; There is no limit to His understanding.

147:6  The LORD lifts up the meek; He throws the wicked down to the ground.

147:7  Sing to the LORD with thanksgiving; sing praise on the harp to our God,

147:8  who covers the heavens with clouds, who prepares rain for the earth, who makes grass to grow on the mountains.

147:9  He gives the beasts its food, and to the young ravens which cry.

147:10  He delights not in the strength of the horse; He takes no pleasure in the legs of a man.

147:11  The LORD takes pleasure in those who fear Him, who hope in His mercy.

147:12  Praise the LORD, O Jerusalem; praise your God, O Zion.

147:13  For He has made the bars of your gates strong; He has blessed your sons within you.

147:14  He makes peace in your borders and fills you with the finest of the wheat.

147:15  He sends forth His commandment on earth; His word runs very swiftly.

147:16  He gives snow like wool; He scatters the hoarfrost like ashes.

147:17  He casts forth His ice like crumbs; who can stand before His cold?

147:18  He sends out His word and melts them; He causes His wind to blow, and the waters flow.

147:19  He shows His word to Jacob, His statutes and His judgments to Israel.

147:20  He has not done so with any nation; and they have not known His judgments. Praise the LORD!

Chapter 148

148:1  Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD from the heavens; praise Him in the heights.

148:2  Praise Him, all His angels; praise Him, all His hosts.

148:3  Praise Him, sun and moon; praise Him, all stars of light.

148:4  Praise Him, heavens of heavens, and waters that are above the heavens.

148:5  Let them praise the name of the LORD; for He commanded, and they were created.

148:6  He has also settled them forever and ever; He has made a decree which shall not pass away.

148:7  Let praise be to the LORD from the earth, the sea-monsters, and all deeps;

148:8  fire and hail, snow and vapor, stormy wind fulfilling His word,

148:9  mountains and all hills, fruitful trees and all cedars,

148:10  beasts and all cattle, creeping things and birds of the wing,

148:11  kings of the earth and all people, princes and all judges of the earth,

148:12  both young men and maidens, old men and children;

148:13  let them praise the name of the LORD; for His name alone is excellent; His glory is above the earth and heavens.

148:14  He also lifts up the horn of His people, the praise of all His saints, even of the sons of Israel, a people near to Him. Praise the LORD!

Chapter 149

149:1  Praise the LORD! Sing to the LORD a new song, His praise in the congregation of saints.

149:2  Let Israel rejoice in his Makers; let the sons of Zion be joyful in their Kings.

149:3  Let them praise His name in the dance; let them sing praises to Him with the timbrel and harp.

149:4  For the LORD takes pleasure in His people; He will beautify the meek with salvation.

149:5  Let the saints be joyful in glory; let them sing aloud on their beds.

149:6  Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand,

149:7  to carry out vengeance on the nations and punishments on the peoples,

149:8  to bind their kings with chains and their nobles with iron-bands,

149:9  to carry out on them the judgment written; this is an honor for all His saints. Praise the LORD!

Chapter 150

150:1  Praise the LORD. Praise God in His sanctuary; praise Him in the expanse of His power.

150:2  Praise Him for His mighty acts; praise Him according to His excellent greatness.

150:3  Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet; praise Him with the harp and lyre.

150:4  Praise Him with the timbrel and dance; praise Him with stringed instruments and pipes.

150:5  Praise Him on the sounding cymbals; praise Him with the resounding cymbals.

150:6  Let everything that breathes praise the LORD. Praise the LORD!
