Chapter 1

1:1  Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the way of sinners, nor sit in the seat of the scornful.

1:2  But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in His law does he meditate day and night.

1:3  And he shall be like a tree planted by the streams of water that brings forth its fruit in its season, and its leaf shall not wither, and all that he does shall prosper.

1:4  The wicked are not so, but they are like chaff which the wind drives away.

1:5  Therefore the wicked shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;

1:6  For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked shall perish.

Chapter 2

2:1  Why do the nations rage and the people plot in vain?

2:2  The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together against the LORD and against His Christ, saying,

2:3  "Let us break Their bands asunder and cast away Their cords from us."

2:4  He who sits in the heavens laughs; the LORD scoffs at them.

2:5  Then He shall speak to them in His wrath, and in His fury He terrifies them.

2:6  "Yea, I have set My king upon Zion, My holy mountain."

2:7  "I will declare the decree of the LORD. He has said to Me, 'You are My Son; this day I have begotten You.

2:8  Ask of Me, and I shall give the nations for Your inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for Your possession.

2:9  You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.' ”

2:10  Now therefore be wise, O kings; be admonished, O judges of the earth.

2:11  Serve the LORD with fear and rejoice with trembling.

2:12  Kiss the Son, lest He be angry and you perish in the way, for His wrath can flame up in a moment. Blessed are all who take refuge in Him.

Chapter 3

3:1  A Psalm of David, when he fled from his son Absalom.O LORD, how my foes have increased! Many are the ones who rise up against me.

3:2  Many are saying of my soul, "There is no deliverance for him in God." Selah.

3:3  But You, O LORD, are a shield about me, my glory, and the One Who lifts up my head.

3:4  I cried to the LORD with my voice, and He answered me out of His holy mountain. Selah.

3:5  I lay down and sleep. I awake, for the LORD has sustained me.

3:6  I am not afraid of ten thousands of people who have set themselves against me all around.

3:7  Arise, O LORD! Save me, O my God, for You have struck all my enemies on the cheekbone. You have broken the teeth of the wicked.

3:8  Salvation belongs to the LORD. Your blessing be upon Your people. Selah.

Chapter 4

4:1  To the Chief Musician, for stringed instruments. A Psalm of David.Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness. You gave me relief when I was in distress; be gracious to me, and hear my prayer.

4:2  O sons of men, how long will my glory be put to shame? How long will you love delusions and seek after lies? Selah.

4:3  But know that the LORD has set apart the godly for Himself. The LORD will hear when I call to Him.

4:4  Tremble, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.

4:5  Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the LORD.

4:6  There are many who say, "Who will show us any good?" LORD, lift up the light of Your countenance upon us.

4:7  You have put gladness in my heart, more than when their grain and their wine increased.

4:8  I will both lie down in peace and sleep, for You alone, LORD, make me dwell in safety.

Chapter 5

5:1  To the Chief Musician, for flutes. A Psalm of David.Give ear to my words, O LORD; consider my meditation.

5:2  Hearken to the voice of my cry, my King and my God, for to You do I pray.

5:3  My voice You shall hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning I will direct my prayer to You, and I will look up,

5:4  For You are not a God that has pleasure in wickedness; nor shall evil dwell with You.

5:5  The boasters shall not stand in Your sight. You hate all workers of iniquity.

5:6  You shall destroy those who speak lies; the LORD abhors the bloody and deceitful man.

5:7  But I, in the abundance of Your lovingkindness, I will come into Your house; I will bow down in Your fear toward Your holy temple.

5:8  Lead me, O LORD, in Your righteousness because of my enemies; make Your way straight before my face,

5:9  For there is no truth in their mouth; their inward part is destruction; their throat is an open grave; they flatter with their tongue.

5:10  Hold them guilty, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions, for they have rebelled against You.

5:11  But let all who put their trust in You rejoice; let them always shout for joy because You defend them. And let those who love Your name exult in You,

5:12  For You, O LORD, will bless the righteous; with favor You will surround him as with a shield.

Chapter 6

6:1  To the Chief Musician, for eight-stringed instruments. A Psalm of David.O LORD, rebuke me not in Your anger, nor chasten me in the heat of Your fury.

6:2  Be gracious unto me, O LORD, for I am weak; O LORD, heal me, for my bones are troubled.

6:3  My soul also is exceedingly troubled; but You, O LORD—how long?

6:4  Return, O LORD, return; deliver my soul; save me for Your mercy's sake,

6:5  For in death there is no memory of You; in the grave who shall give You thanks?

6:6  I am weary in my groaning; all the night I make my bed to swim; I drench my couch with my tears.

6:7  My eye wastes away because of grief; it grows weak because of all my enemies.

6:8  Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity, for the LORD has heard the voice of my weeping.

6:9  The LORD has heard my supplication; the LORD will receive my prayer.

6:10  Let all my enemies be ashamed and greatly dismayed; let them turn back and be ashamed suddenly.

Chapter 7

7:1  A song of David, which he sang to the LORD, concerning the words of Cush, the Benjamite.O LORD my God, in You have I taken refuge; save me from all who pursue me and deliver me,

7:2  Lest he tear my soul like a lion, ripping it in pieces, and there is no one to deliver.

7:3  O LORD my God, if I have done this— if there is iniquity in my hands,

7:4  If I have rewarded evil to the one who was at peace with me, or if I have plundered my enemy without cause—

7:5  Then let the enemy pursue my soul and take it; yea, let him trample down my life upon the earth and lay my honor in the dust. Selah.

7:6  Arise, O LORD, in Your anger; lift up Yourself against the rage of my enemies, and awake for me at the judgment which You have commanded.

7:7  And let the congregation of the people surround You; and rule over them from on high.

7:8  The LORD shall judge the people; judge me, O LORD, according to my righteousness, and according to my integrity within me.

7:9  O let the evil of the wicked come to an end, but establish the righteous, for the righteous God tries the hearts and reins.

7:10  My shield is with God, who saves the upright in heart.

7:11  God is a righteous judge, and a God Who has indignation every day.

7:12  If he does not turn, He will whet His sword; He has bent His bow and made it ready.

7:13  Yea, He has also prepared for Himself weapons of death; He has made His arrows fiery shafts.

7:14  Behold, he labors with iniquity, and he has conceived mischief, and has brought forth falsehood.

7:15  He dug a pit and hollowed it out, and has fallen into the ditch which he made.

7:16  His mischief shall return upon his own head, and his violence shall come down upon his own crown.

7:17  I will give thanks to the LORD according to His righteousness, and will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High.

Chapter 8

8:1  To the Chief Musician, on the harp. A Psalm of David.O LORD our Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth! You have set Your glory above the heavens!

8:2  Out of the mouths of babes and sucklings You have ordained strength because of Your adversaries, to silence the enemy and the avenger.

8:3  When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars which You have ordained,

8:4  What is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You care for him?

8:5  For You have made him a little lower than God and have crowned him with glory and honor.

8:6  You made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet:

8:7  All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field;

8:8  The birds of heaven, the fish of the sea, and all that pass through the paths of the seas.

8:9  O LORD, our Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth!

Chapter 9

9:1  To the Chief Musician. "To die for the Son." A Psalm of David.I will praise You, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will tell of all Your marvelous works.

9:2  I will be glad and rejoice in You; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High.

9:3  When my enemies have turned back, they shall fall and perish before You,

9:4  For You have maintained my right and my cause; You sat upon the throne giving righteous judgment.

9:5  You have rebuked the nations; You have destroyed the wicked; You have blotted out their name forever and ever.

9:6  Endless ruin has overtaken the enemy, You have uprooted the cities, the memory of them has perished.

9:7  But the LORD shall endure forever; He has prepared His throne for judgment.

9:8  And He shall judge the world in righteousness; He shall govern the people with justice.

9:9  The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.

9:10  And those who know Your name will put their trust in You, for You, LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You.

9:11  Sing praises to the LORD, Who dwells in Zion; declare among the nations His deeds.

9:12  For He Who avenges blood remembers them; He forgets not the cry of the humble.

9:13  Have mercy upon me, O LORD; consider my trouble which I suffer from those who hate me, You who lift me up from the gates of death,

9:14  So that I may declare all Your praise in the gates of the daughter of Zion; I will rejoice in Your salvation.

9:15  The nations have sunk down in the grave that they made; their own foot is caught in the net which they hid.

9:16  The LORD has made Himself known. He has executed judgment; the wicked are snared in the work of their own hands. Selah.

9:17  The wicked shall be turned into the grave, and all the nations that forget God,

9:18  For the needy shall not always be forgotten; the expectation of the poor shall not perish forever.

9:19  Arise, O LORD; let not man prevail. Let the nations be judged in Your sight.

9:20  Put them in fear, O LORD, let the nations know that they are but men. Selah.

Chapter 10

10:1  Why do You stand afar off, O LORD? Why do You hide Yourself in times of trouble?

10:2  The wicked in his pride pursues the poor; let them be taken in the schemes that they have imagined,

10:3  For the wicked boasts of his heart's desire, and blesses the covetous but despises the LORD.

10:4  Through the pride of his countenance the wicked will not seek God; in all his thoughts there is no place for God.

10:5  His ways prosper at all times. He is haughty, and Your judgments are far from him. As for all his enemies, he sneers at them.

10:6  He has said in his heart, "I shall not be moved; from generation to generation, I shall never be in adversity."

10:7  His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud; under his tongue are mischief and iniquity.

10:8  He sits in the hiding places of the villages; in the secret places he murders the innocent. His eyes are on the watch for the helpless.

10:9  He lies in wait secretly like a lion in his den. He lies in wait to catch the helpless; he catches the helpless and drags him off in his net.

10:10  He crouches and bows down, and the hapless fall into his mighty grasp.

10:11  He has said in his heart, "God has forgotten; He hides His face; He will never see!"

10:12  Arise, O LORD; O God, lift up Your hand; forget not the humble.

10:13  Why do the wicked spurn God? He has said in his heart, "You will not call into account."

10:14  You have seen it, for You behold mischief and vexation to repay it with Your hand. The poor commits himself to You; You are the Helper of the fatherless.

10:15  Break the arm of the wicked and the evil one; seek out his wickedness until You find none.

10:16  The LORD is King forever and ever; the nations have perished out of His land.

10:17  LORD, You have heard the desire of the humble; You will prepare their heart, You will cause Your ear to hear,

10:18  To defend the fatherless and the oppressed, so that the man of the earth may no more oppress.

Chapter 11

11:1  To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.In the LORD I have taken refuge; how then can you say to me, "Flee like a bird to your mountain"?

11:2  For lo, the wicked bend their bow; they make ready their arrow on the string, so that they may secretly shoot at the upright in heart.

11:3  If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?

11:4  The LORD is in His holy temple; the LORD'S throne is in heaven. His eyes behold; His searching gaze tests the children of men.

11:5  The LORD tries the righteous, but His soul hates the wicked and the one who loves violence.

11:6  Upon the wicked He shall rain snares, fire and brimstone; and a scorching wind shall be the portion of their cup,

11:7  For the LORD is righteous, He loves righteousness; the upright will behold His face.

Chapter 12

12:1  To the Chief Musician. On an eight-stringed harp. A Psalm of David.Help, O LORD, for the godly man ceases; for the faithful disappear from among the children of men.

12:2  They speak falsehood each one with his neighbor; with flattering lips and a double heart they speak.

12:3  The LORD shall cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaks proud things,

12:4  Who have said, "With our tongue we shall prevail; our lips are our own; who is lord over us?"

12:5  "For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, I will now arise," says the LORD. "I will set him in safety from him who puffs at him."

12:6  The words of the LORD are pure words, like silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.

12:7  You shall keep them, O LORD; You shall preserve them from this generation forever.

12:8  The wicked walk on every side when vileness is exalted among the sons of men.

Chapter 13

13:1  To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.How long will You forget me, O LORD? Forever? How long will You hide Your face from me?

13:2  How long shall I take counsel in my heart, having sorrow in my heart daily? How long shall my enemy be exalted over me?

13:3  Consider and answer me, O LORD my God; enlighten my eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death,

13:4  Lest my enemy say, "I have overcome him," and my foes rejoice when I am moved.

13:5  But as for me, I have trusted in Your mercy; my heart shall rejoice in Your salvation.

13:6  I will sing to the LORD because He has dealt bountifully with me.

Chapter 14

14:1  To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.The fool has said in his heart, "There is no God!" They are corrupt; they have done abominable works, there is none who does good.

14:2  The LORD looks down from heaven upon the children of men to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God.

14:3  They have all turned aside, together they have become corrupt; there is none who does good, no, not even one.

14:4  Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge, those who devour My people as men eat bread and do not call upon the LORD?

14:5  There they are in great fear, for God is with the generation of the righteous.

14:6  You have put to shame the counsel of the poor; but the LORD is his refuge.

14:7  Oh, that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! When the LORD turns away the captivity of His people, Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad.

Chapter 15

15:1  A Psalm of David.LORD, who shall dwell in Your tabernacle? Who shall dwell upon Your holy hill?

15:2  He who walks uprightly, and works righteousness, and speaks the truth in his heart;

15:3  He does not slander with his tongue, nor does evil to his neighbor, nor takes up a reproach against his neighbor;

15:4  In whose eyes a vile person is despised, but he honors those who fear the LORD; he who swears to his own hurt and does not change it;

15:5  He who has not put out his money at usury, nor has he taken a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things shall never be moved.

Chapter 16

16:1  A Secret Treasure of David.Preserve me, O God, for in You do I take refuge.

16:2  I have said to the LORD, "You are my LORD; I have no goodness apart from You."

16:3  As for the saints in the earth, "They are the excellent ones in whom is all my delight."

16:4  Their sorrows shall be multiplied who run after another god. I will not pour out their drink offerings of blood; and I will not take their names upon my lips.

16:5  The LORD is the portion of my inheritance and of my cup; You shall uphold my lot.

16:6  The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; yea, I have a beautiful inheritance.

16:7  I will bless the LORD Who has given me counsel; my heart also instructs me in the nights.

16:8  I have set the LORD always before me. Because He is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.

16:9  Therefore My heart is glad, and My glory rejoices; My flesh also shall rest in safety,

16:10  For You will not abandon My soul to the grave; neither will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.

16:11  You will make known to Me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy. At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Chapter 17

17:1  A Prayer of David.Hear the right, O LORD; attend unto my cry; give ear unto my prayer, for it is not from lips of deceit.

17:2  Let my judgment come forth from Your presence; let Your eyes behold things that are upright.

17:3  You have tried my heart; You have visited me in the night; You have tested me, and You shall find nothing; I have purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.

17:4  Concerning the works of men, by the words of Your lips, I have kept myself from the paths of the violent.

17:5  My steps have held fast to Your paths, my feet have not slipped.

17:6  I have called upon You, for You will answer me, O God; incline Your ear to me; hear my speech.

17:7  Show Your marvelous lovingkindness, O Savior of those seeking refuge in You; by Your right hand save them from those who rise up against them.

17:8  Keep me as the apple of Your eye; hide me under the shadow of Your wings

17:9  From the face of the wicked who oppress me—my deadly enemies who encircle me.

17:10  They have closed their pitiless hearts; with their mouth they speak proudly.

17:11  They have now surrounded us in our steps. They have set their eyes to cast us down to the earth,

17:12  They are like a lion that longs to tear his prey, and like a young lion stalking in secret places.

17:13  Arise, O LORD, confront him, bring him down; deliver my soul from the wicked by Your sword,

17:14  From men by Your hand, O LORD, from men of the world whose portion is in this life, and whose belly You fill with Your treasure. They are full of children, and will leave their riches to their babes.

17:15  As for me, I will behold Your face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with Your likeness.

Chapter 18

18:1  To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David, the servant of the LORD, who spoke to the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul; and he said:I love You, O LORD, my strength.

18:2  The LORD is my Rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my Rock in Whom I take refuge; He is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower.

18:3  I will call on the LORD, Who is worthy to be praised, so shall I be saved from my enemies.

18:4  The cords of death hemmed me in, and the floods of ungodliness assailed me.

18:5  The cords of the grave surrounded me; the snares of death confronted me.

18:6  In my distress I called on the LORD, and I cried to my God; He heard my voice out of His temple, and my cry came before Him into His ears.

18:7  Then the earth shook and trembled; and the foundations also of the hills moved and were shaken because He was angry.

18:8  Smoke went up out of His nostrils, and fire out of His mouth devoured; coals flamed forth from Him.

18:9  And He bowed the heavens and came down, and thick darkness was under His feet.

18:10  And He rode upon a cherub, and flew; yea, He soared upon the wings of the wind.

18:11  He made darkness His secret place; His pavilion around Him was dark waters and thick clouds of the skies.

18:12  At the brightness before Him, His dark clouds passed through with hailstones and coals of fire.

18:13  The LORD also thundered in the heavens, and the Most High gave forth His voice with hailstones and coals of fire.

18:14  Yea, He sent out His arrows and scattered them; and He shot out lightnings and routed them.

18:15  Then the channels of waters were seen, and the foundations of the world were laid bare at Your rebuke, O LORD, at the blast of the breath of Your nostrils.

18:16  He sent from on high, He took me, He drew me out of many waters.

18:17  He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from those who hated me, for they were too strong for me.

18:18  They confronted me in the day of my calamity, but the LORD was my stay.

18:19  He brought me forth also into a large place; He delivered me because He delighted in me.

18:20  The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands He has repaid me,

18:21  For I have kept the ways of the LORD, and have not wickedly departed from my God;

18:22  For all His ordinances were before me, and I did not put away His statutes from me.

18:23  I was also blameless before Him, and I kept myself from my iniquity.

18:24  Therefore the LORD has recompensed me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in His eyes.

18:25  With the merciful, You will show Yourself merciful; with an upright man You will show Yourself upright;

18:26  With the pure You will show Yourself pure; and with the crooked You will show Yourself cunning;

18:27  For You will save the afflicted people, but the haughty eyes You will bring low;

18:28  For You will light my lamp; the LORD my God will make my darkness light;

18:29  For by You I have run through a troop; and by my God I have leaped over a wall.

18:30  As for God, His way is perfect; the Word of the LORD is tried. He is a shield to all those who take refuge in Him,

18:31  For who is God besides the LORD? Or, who is a Rock except our God?

18:32  The God who girds me with strength and makes my way perfect,

18:33  Who makes my feet like hinds' feet, and sets me on my high places.

18:34  He trains my hands for battle, so that my arms can bend a bow of bronze.

18:35  You have also given me the shield of Your salvation; and Your right hand has held me up, and Your gentleness has made me great.

18:36  You have broadened the path beneath me, so that my ankles have not turned.

18:37  I have pursued my enemies and overtaken them; nor did I turn back until they were destroyed.

18:38  I have shattered them, and they cannot rise again; they have fallen under my feet,

18:39  For You have girded me with strength for the battle; You have subdued under me those who rose up against me.

18:40  You have also made my enemies turn their backs to me and I destroyed them who hated me.

18:41  They cried, but there was none to save—even unto the LORD, but He did not answer them.

18:42  Then I beat them small as the dust before the wind; I cast them out like the dirt in the streets.

18:43  You have delivered me from the strivings of the people; You have made me the head of the nations; a people whom I have not known shall serve me.

18:44  As soon as they hear of me, they shall obey me; the sons of strangers cringe before me.

18:45  The sons of strangers fade away and come trembling out of their strongholds.

18:46  The LORD lives; and blessed be my Rock, and let the God of my salvation be exalted.

18:47  The God who avenges me and subdues the people under me,

18:48  He delivers me from my enemies; yea, You lift me up above those who rise up against me; You have delivered me from the violent man.

18:49  Therefore I will give thanks to You, O LORD, among the nations, and sing praises to Your name,

18:50  He gives great deliverance to His king, and shows mercy to His anointed, to David and to his seed forevermore.

Chapter 19

19:1  To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament proclaims His handiwork.

19:2  Day after day they pour forth speech, and night after night they reveal knowledge.

19:3  There is no speech nor language where their voice is not heard.

19:4  Their line has gone out through all the earth and their words to the ends of the world. In them He has set a tabernacle for the sun,

19:5  Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoices as a strong man set to run a race,

19:6  Its going forth is from one end of heaven, and its circuit is to the other end. And there is nothing hidden from its heat.

19:7  The law of the LORD is perfect, restoring the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.

19:8  The precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandments of the LORD are pure, enlightening the eyes.

19:9  The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether,

19:10  More to be desired than gold, yea, much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

19:11  Moreover by them Your servant is warned; in keeping them there is great reward.

19:12  Who can understand his errors? Oh, cleanse me from my secret faults;

19:13  And keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins; do not let them rule over me; then I shall be blameless, and I shall be innocent of great transgression.

19:14  Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer.

Chapter 20

20:1  To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.May the LORD answer you in the day of trouble, the name of the God of Jacob set you on high,

20:2  May He send you help from the sanctuary, and strengthen you out of Zion.

20:3  May He remember all your offerings and accept your burnt sacrifice. Selah.

20:4  May He grant you according to your own heart and fulfill all your plans.

20:5  We will shout for joy in your victory, and in the name of our God we will set up banners. May the LORD fulfill all your prayers.

20:6  Now I know that the LORD saves His anointed; He will answer him from His holy heaven with the saving strength of His right hand.

20:7  Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.

20:8  They are brought down and fallen, but we have risen and stand upright.

20:9  Save, O LORD; let the King hear us when we call.

Chapter 21

21:1  To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.The king shall rejoice in Your strength, O LORD; and in Your salvation how greatly shall he rejoice!

21:2  You have given him his heart's desire and have not withheld the prayer of his lips. Selah.

21:3  For You do meet him with the blessings of goodness; You set a crown of pure gold on his head.

21:4  He asked life from You; You give to him length of days forever and ever.

21:5  His glory is great through Your salvation; honor and majesty You have laid upon him,

21:6  For You have made him most blessed forever; You made him exceedingly joyful with Your presence;

21:7  For the king trusts in the LORD and in the mercy of the Most High; he shall not be moved.

21:8  Your hand shall find all Your enemies; Your right hand shall find those who hate You.

21:9  You shall make them as a fiery oven in the time of Your anger; the LORD will swallow them up in His wrath, and the fire shall devour them.

21:10  Their offspring shall You destroy from the earth, and their descendents from among the sons of men;

21:11  For they intended evil against You; they imagined a wicked thing which they are not able to perform,

21:12  For You shall make them turn their back; You shall aim Your arrows upon Your strings against their faces.

21:13  Be exalted, O LORD, in Your strength; so we will sing and praise Your power.

Chapter 22

22:1  To the Chief Musician, "on the deer of the dawn." A Psalm of David.My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me, and why are You so far from helping Me, and from the words of My groaning?

22:2  O my God, I cry in the daytime, but You do not answer; and in the night season, and am not silent.

22:3  Yet You are holy, O You enthroned upon the praises of Israel.

22:4  Our fathers trusted in You; they trusted, and You delivered them.

22:5  They cried to You and were delivered; they trusted in You and were not ashamed.

22:6  But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men and despised by the people.

22:7  All who see Me mock Me; they shoot out the lip; they shake the head, saying,

22:8  "He trusted on the LORD; let Him deliver Him; let Him rescue Him, since He delights in Him!"

22:9  For You are He who took Me out of the womb, causing Me to trust while on My mother's breasts.

22:10  I was cast upon You from birth; You are My God from My mother's womb.

22:11  Be not far from Me; for trouble is near, for there is none to help.

22:12  Many bulls have encircled around Me; strong bulls of Bashan have surrounded Me.

22:13  They opened wide their mouths at Me, like a ravening and a roaring lion.

22:14  I am poured out like water, and all My bones are out of joint; My heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of My bowels.

22:15  My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and My tongue clings to My jaws;

22:16  Dogs have surrounded Me; a band of evildoers have encircled Me; they have pierced My hands and My feet; and You have brought Me into the dust of death.

22:17  I can count all My bones; they look and gloat over Me.

22:18  They divide My garments among them and cast lots upon My vesture.

22:19  But You, O LORD, be not far from Me; O My strength, hasten to help Me!

22:20  Deliver My soul from the sword, My precious life from the power of the dog.

22:21  Save Me from the lion's mouth; yea, and from the wild ox's horns. You have answered Me.

22:22  I will declare Your name to My brethren; in the midst of the congregation I will praise You.

22:23  You who fear the LORD, praise Him; all of you, the seed of Jacob, glorify Him; and stand in awe of Him all of you, the seed of Israel,

22:24  For He has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; and He has not hidden His face from him, but when he cried to Him, He heard.

22:25  From You comes my praise in the great congregation; I will pay my vows before those who fear Him.

22:26  The meek shall eat and be satisfied; those who seek the LORD shall praise Him; may your heart live forever.

22:27  All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the LORD; and all the families of the nations shall worship before You,

22:28  For the kingdom is the LORD'S and He rules over the nations.

22:29  All the rich of the earth shall eat and worship; all those who go down to the dust shall bow before Him; even he who cannot keep his own soul alive.

22:30  A seed shall serve Him; it shall be told of the LORD to the coming generation.

22:31  They shall come and shall declare His righteousness unto a people that shall yet be born, that He has done this.

Chapter 23

23:1  A Psalm of David.The LORD is my Shepherd; I shall not want.

23:2  He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.

23:3  He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake.

23:4  Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

23:5  You prepare a table for me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over.

23:6  Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

Chapter 24

24:1  A Psalm of David.The earth is the LORD'S, and the fullness of it, the world, and those who dwell in it,

24:2  For He has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the waters.

24:3  Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? Or who shall stand in His holy place?

24:4  He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not lifted up his soul to vanity and has not sworn deceitfully.

24:5  He shall receive the blessing from the LORD and righteousness from the God of his salvation.

24:6  This is the generation of those who seek Him, who seek Your face, O God of Jacob. Selah.

24:7  Lift up your heads, O you gates; and be lifted up, O you everlasting doors; that the King of glory may come in.

24:8  Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle.

24:9  Lift up your heads, O you gates; lift them up, you everlasting doors; that the King of glory may come in.

24:10  Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, He is the King of glory. Selah.

Chapter 25

25:1  A Psalm of David.To You, O LORD, do I lift up my soul.

25:2  O my God, I trust in You; do not let me be ashamed, let not my enemies triumph over me.

25:3  Yea, let none who wait on You be ashamed; let them be ashamed who deal treacherously without cause.

25:4  Show me Your ways, O LORD; teach me Your paths.

25:5  Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; on You do I wait all the day long.

25:6  Remember, O LORD, Your tender mercies and Your lovingkindness, for they have been of old.

25:7  Do not remember the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions; according to Your lovingkindness remember me for Your goodness' sake, O LORD.

25:8  Good and upright is the LORD; therefore He will teach sinners in the way.

25:9  The meek He will guide in judgment; and the meek He will teach His way.

25:10  All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth to those who keep His covenant and His testimonies.

25:11  For Your name's sake, O LORD, pardon my iniquity, for it is great.

25:12  What man is he who fears the LORD? He shall teach him in the way that He shall choose.

25:13  His soul shall dwell at ease, and his seed shall inherit the earth.

25:14  The secret of the LORD is with those who fear Him, and He will show them His covenant.

25:15  My eyes are ever toward the LORD, for He shall pluck my feet out of the net.

25:16  Turn unto me, and be gracious unto me, for I am desolate and afflicted.

25:17  The troubles of my heart are enlarged; O bring me out of my distresses.

25:18  Look upon my affliction and my pain, and forgive all my sins.

25:19  Consider my enemies, for they are many; and they hate me with cruel hatred.

25:20  O keep my soul and deliver me; let me not be ashamed, for I take refuge in You.

25:21  Let integrity and uprightness preserve me, for I wait on You.

25:22  Redeem Israel, O God, out of all his troubles.

Chapter 26

26:1  A Psalm of David.Judge me, O LORD, for I have walked in my integrity. I have trusted also in the LORD without wavering.

26:2  Examine me, O LORD, and prove me; try my reins and my heart,

26:3  For Your lovingkindness is before my eyes; and I have walked in Your truth.

26:4  I have not sat with deceitful men, neither will I go in with hypocrites.

26:5  I have hated the congregation of evildoers and will not sit with the wicked.

26:6  I will wash my hands in innocence; so I will go about Your altar, O LORD,

26:7  That I may cry out with the voice of thanksgiving and tell of all Your wonderful works.

26:8  LORD, I have loved the dwelling place of Your house, and the place where Your glory dwells.

26:9  Do not take away my soul with sinners, nor my life with bloody men,

26:10  In whose hands are evil devices, and their right hand is full of bribes.

26:11  But as for me I will walk in my integrity; redeem me and be gracious unto me.

26:12  My foot stands in an even place; in the congregations I will bless the LORD.

Chapter 27

27:1  A Psalm of David.The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

27:2  When the wicked, my enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.

27:3  Though an army should encamp against me, my heart shall not be afraid; though war should rise against me, even then I will be confident.

27:4  One thing I have desired from the LORD, that I will seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD and to inquire in His temple,

27:5  For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion, in the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me upon a rock.

27:6  And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies round about me; therefore I will offer sacrifices with shouts of joy in His tabernacle. I will sing; yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD.

27:7  Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice; and be gracious unto me and answer me.

27:8  When You said, "Seek My face," my heart said to You, "Your face, O LORD, will I seek."

27:9  Hide not Your face from me. Turn not Your servant away in anger; You have been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.

27:10  Though my father and my mother forsake me, the LORD will take me up.

27:11  Teach me Your way, O LORD, and lead me in a level path because of my enemies.

27:12  Deliver me not over to the will of my enemies, for false witnesses have risen up against me, and he that breathes out violence.

27:13  I would have fainted unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.

27:14  Wait for the LORD; be of good courage, and He shall make your heart strong; yea, wait, I say, wait on the LORD.

Chapter 28

28:1  A Psalm of David.I will cry to You, O LORD; my Rock, do not be silent to me, lest, if You be silent to me, I become like those who go down into the pit.

28:2  Hear the voice of my supplications when I cry to You, when I lift up my hands toward Your holy place.

28:3  Draw me not away with the wicked, and with the workers of iniquity, who speak peace to their neighbors, yet evil is in their hearts.

28:4  Give them according to their deeds, and according to the wickedness of their practices, give them according to the work of their hands; give them what they deserve.

28:5  Because they do not regard the works of the LORD, nor the work of His hands, He shall tear them down and not build them up.

28:6  Blessed is the LORD because He has heard the voice of my supplications.

28:7  The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in Him, and I am helped. Therefore my heart greatly rejoices, and with my song I will praise Him.

28:8  The LORD is their strength, and He is the saving strength of His anointed.

28:9  Save Your people and bless Your inheritance; be their shepherd and carry them forever.

Chapter 29

29:1  A Psalm of David.To the LORD, O you sons of the mighty, give to the LORD glory and strength.

29:2  Give to the LORD the glory due to His name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.

29:3  The voice of the LORD is upon the waters; the God of glory thunders; the LORD is above many waters.

29:4  The voice of the LORD is powerful, the voice of the LORD is full of majesty.

29:5  The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars; yea, the LORD breaks the cedars of Lebanon.

29:6  He also makes them to skip like a calf, Lebanon and Sirion like a young wild ox.

29:7  The voice of the LORD hews out flames of fire.

29:8  The voice of the LORD shakes the wilderness; the LORD shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.

29:9  The voice of the LORD causes the does to give birth and strips the forests bare; and in His temple everyone says "Glory!"

29:10  The LORD sits upon the flood; yea, the LORD sits as King forever.

29:11  The LORD will give strength to His people; the LORD will bless His people with peace.

Chapter 30

30:1  A Psalm and Song at the dedication of the House of David.I will praise You, O LORD, for You have lifted me up and have not allowed my foes to rejoice over me.

30:2  O LORD my God, I cried to You, and You have healed me.

30:3  O LORD, You have brought up my soul from the grave; You have kept me alive, so that I should not go down to the pit.

30:4  Sing praises to the LORD, O you saints of His, and give thanks to His holy name,

30:5  For His anger is only for a moment; His favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.

30:6  And in my prosperity I said, "I shall never be moved."

30:7  O LORD, by Your favor You have made my mountain to stand strong; You hid Your face, and I was troubled.

30:8  I cried to You, O LORD; and I made supplication to the LORD.

30:9  "What profit is in my blood, in going down to the pit? Shall the dust praise You? Shall it declare Your truth?

30:10  Hear, O LORD, and be gracious unto me; LORD, be my helper."

30:11  You have turned my mourning into dancing; You have torn off my sackcloth and have clothed me with gladness,

30:12  To the end that my glory may sing praise to You and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to You forever.

Chapter 31

31:1  To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.In You, O LORD, have I taken refuge, let me never be ashamed; deliver me in Your righteousness.

31:2  Bow down Your ear to me; deliver me quickly; be my strong Rock, a fortress of defense to save me;

31:3  For You are my Rock and my fortress; therefore for Your name's sake lead me and guide me.

31:4  Pull me up out of the net that they have hidden for me, for You are my strength.

31:5  Into Your hand I commit My spirit; You have redeemed Me, O LORD God of truth.

31:6  I have hated those who take heed to lying vanities, but I trust in the LORD.

31:7  I will be glad and rejoice in Your lovingkindness, for You have looked upon my affliction; You have known the troubles of my soul

31:8  And have not given me over into the hand of the enemy; You have set my feet in a broad place.

31:9  Be gracious unto me, O LORD, for I am in distress; my eye is consumed with grief, yea, even my soul and my body;

31:10  For my life is spent with grief and my years with sighing; my strength fails because of my iniquity, and my bones have wasted away.

31:11  Because of all my adversaries I have become a reproach, but especially among my neighbors, and a dread to my friends; those from outside who saw me fled from me.

31:12  I am forgotten as a dead man, out of mind; I am like a broken vessel,

31:13  For I have heard the whispering slander of many; terror is on every side; they plotted together against me, they planned to take away my life.

31:14  But I trusted in You, O LORD; I said, "You are my God."

31:15  My times are in Your hand; deliver me from the hand of my enemies, and from those who persecute me.

31:16  Make Your face shine upon Your servant; save me in Your lovingkindness.

31:17  Let me not be ashamed, O LORD, for I have called upon You; let the wicked be ashamed. Let them be silent in the grave.

31:18  Let the lying lips be put to silence— the lips which speak arrogantly against the righteous with pride and contempt.

31:19  Oh, how great is Your goodness, which You have laid up for those who fear You, which You have prepared for those who take refuge in You before the sons of men!

31:20  You shall hide them in the secret place of Your presence from the plottings of man; You shall hide them in a shelter away from the strife of tongues.

31:21  Blessed is the LORD, for He has shown His wondrous lovingkindness in a besieged city,

31:22  For I said in my haste, "I am cut off from before Your eyes;" nevertheless You heard the voice of my supplications when I cried to You.

31:23  O love the LORD, all you His saints! The LORD preserves the faithful, and fully repays the proud doer.

31:24  Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who hope in the LORD.

Chapter 32

32:1  A Psalm of David. A Contemplation.Blessed is the man whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.

32:2  Blessed is the man to whom the LORD does not impute iniquity and in whose spirit there is no guile.

32:3  When I kept silent, my bones wore away through my groaning all the day long,

32:4  For by day and by night Your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer. Selah.

32:5  I acknowledged my sin to You, and my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, "I will confess my transgression to the LORD," and You forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah.

32:6  For this reason let every godly one pray to You in a time when You may be found; surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come near him.

32:7  You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall encircle me with songs of deliverance. Selah.

32:8  You said, "I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you, My eye shall be upon you.

32:9  Be not like the horse, or like the mule, which have no understanding—which must be harnessed with bit and bridle, else they will not come near you."

32:10  The wicked has many sorrows, but His steadfast love surrounds him who trusts in the LORD.

32:11  Be glad in the LORD and rejoice, you righteous; and shout for joy, all you upright in heart.

Chapter 33

33:1  Rejoice in the LORD, O you righteous ones; praise is becoming for the upright.

33:2  Praise the LORD with a lyre; sing unto Him with a harp of ten strings.

33:3  Sing unto Him a new song; play skillfully with shouts of joy,

33:4  For the Word of the LORD is upright; and all His works are done in faithfulness.

33:5  He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the lovingkindness of the LORD.

33:6  By the Word of the LORD were the heavens made, and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth.

33:7  He gathered the waters of the sea together like a heap, putting the depths in storehouses.

33:8  Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him,

33:9  For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast.

33:10  The LORD brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He frustrates the plans of the people.

33:11  The counsel of the LORD stands forever, the thoughts of His heart to all generations.

33:12  Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, and the people He has chosen for His own inheritance.

33:13  The LORD looks down from heaven; He beholds all the sons of men.

33:14  From His dwelling place He looks intently upon all the inhabitants of the earth.

33:15  Together He fashions their hearts alike; He considers all their works.

33:16  The king is not saved by a great army; a mighty man is not delivered by much strength.

33:17  A horse is a vain thing for safety; neither shall it deliver any by its great strength.

33:18  Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon those who fear Him, upon those who hope in His lovingkindness,

33:19  To deliver their soul from death and to keep them alive in famine.

33:20  Our soul waits for the LORD; He is our help and our shield,

33:21  For our heart shall rejoice in Him because we have trusted in His holy name.

33:22  Let Your lovingkindness, O LORD, be upon us, according as we hope in You.

Chapter 34

34:1  A Psalm of David, when he feigned madness before Abimelech, who drove him away, and he departed.I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise shall always be in my mouth.

34:2  My soul shall make its boast in the LORD; the humble shall hear and be glad.

34:3  O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt His name together.

34:4  I sought the LORD, and He answered me, and delivered me from all my fears.

34:5  They looked to Him and were radiant; and their faces were not ashamed.

34:6  This poor man cried, and the LORD heard, and saved him out of all his troubles.

34:7  The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear Him and delivers them.

34:8  O taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him.

34:9  O fear the LORD, all you saints, for there is nothing lacking to those who fear Him.

34:10  The young lions do lack and suffer hunger, but those who seek the LORD shall not lack any good thing.

34:11  Come, hearken to me, you children; I will teach you the fear of the LORD.

34:12  Who is the man that desires life, and loves many days, that he may see good?

34:13  Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking guile.

34:14  Depart from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.

34:15  The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and His ears are open to their cry.

34:16  The face of the LORD is against those who do evil, to cut off the memory of them from the earth.

34:17  The righteous cry, and the LORD hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles.

34:18  The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are of a contrite spirit.

34:19  Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him out of them all.

34:20  He keeps all His bones; not one of them is broken.

34:21  Evil shall slay the wicked; and those who hate the righteous shall be condemned.

34:22  The LORD redeems the soul of His servants; and none of them who take refuge in Him shall be condemned.

Chapter 35

35:1  A Psalm of David.Contend, O LORD, with those who contend with me; fight against those who fight against me.

35:2  Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for my help.

35:3  Also draw out the spear and the lance against those who pursue me; say to my soul, "I am your salvation."

35:4  Let them be ashamed and brought to confusion, those who seek after my soul; let them be turned back and humiliated, those who devise evil against me.

35:5  Let them be as chaff before the wind; and let the angel of the LORD drive them away.

35:6  Let their way be dark and slippery; and let the angel of the LORD pursue them;

35:7  For without cause they have hidden their net for me; without cause they have dug a pit for my soul.

35:8  Let destruction come upon him in a time he will not know; and let his net which he has concealed catch him, let him fall into destruction.

35:9  And my soul shall be joyful in the LORD; it shall rejoice in His salvation.

35:10  All my bones shall say, "O LORD, Who is like You, who delivers the poor from him stronger than he; yea, even the poor and the needy from him who plunders him?"

35:11  Cruel witnesses rose up; they asked me of things that I knew nothing about.

35:12  They rewarded me evil for good, bereaving my soul.

35:13  But when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth; I humbled my soul with fasting; and my prayer returned into my own bosom.

35:14  I went about as though it were a friend or brother; I bowed down as one mourning for his mother.

35:15  But in my stumbling they rejoiced and gathered themselves together; the attackers whom I did not know gathered themselves against me. They slandered without ceasing.

35:16  As profane mockers, they gnashed at me with their teeth.

35:17  O LORD, how long will You look on? Rescue my soul from their ravages, my precious life from the lions.

35:18  I will give You thanks in the great congregation; I will praise You among a mighty throng.

35:19  Let not those who are my enemies without cause rejoice over me; let not those who hate me wink the eye,

35:20  For they do not speak peace, but they devise deceitful things against those who are quiet in the land.

35:21  And they open wide their mouths against me; they say, "Aha, aha! Our eyes have seen it."

35:22  You have seen, O LORD; do not keep silence; O LORD, do not be far from me.

35:23  Stir up Yourself and awaken to my defense, even to my cause, my God and my Lord.

35:24  Judge me, O LORD my God, according to Your righteousness; and do not let them rejoice over me.

35:25  Do not let them say in their hearts, "Aha! We have our desire!" Do not let them say, "We have swallowed him up."

35:26  May those who rejoice at my distress be altogether ashamed and humiliated; let them be clothed with shame and dishonor who magnify themselves against me.

35:27  Let those who delight in my vindication be jubilant and rejoice; and let them say without ceasing, "The LORD be magnified, Who delights in the peace of His servant."

35:28  And my tongue shall speak of Your righteousness and of Your praise all the day long.

Chapter 36

36:1  To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David, the servant of the LORD.The wicked utters transgression in his heart. There is no fear of God before his eyes,

36:2  For he flatters himself in his own eyes until his iniquity is found to be hateful.

36:3  The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit; he has stopped acting wise and doing good.

36:4  He plots iniquity upon his bed; he sets himself in a way that is not good; he does not hate evil.

36:5  Your lovingkindness, O LORD, is in the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches to the skies.

36:6  Your righteousness is like the great mountains; Your judgments are like the great deep; O LORD, You preserve man and beast.

36:7  How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God! Therefore the children of men take refuge under the shadow of Your wings.

36:8  They shall be abundantly satisfied with the richness of Your house; and You shall make them drink of the river of Your pleasures,

36:9  For with You is the fountain of life; in Your light we shall see light.

36:10  O continue Your lovingkindness to those who know You, and Your righteousness to the upright in heart.

36:11  Do not let the foot of pride come against me, and do not let the hand of the wicked move me.

36:12  There the evildoers have fallen; they are cast down, and cannot rise.

Chapter 37

37:1  A Psalm of David.Do not fret yourself because of evildoers, and do not be envious against the workers of iniquity,

37:2  For they shall soon be cut down like the grass; and wither as the green herb.

37:3  Trust in the LORD, and do good; dwell in the land, and cherish faithfulness.

37:4  Delight yourself in the LORD, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.

37:5  Commit your way unto the LORD; trust also in Him, and He will bring it to pass.

37:6  And He shall bring forth your righteousness like the light, and your judgment like the noonday.

37:7  Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him; do not fret yourself because of him who prospers in his way; because of him who carries out wicked schemes.

37:8  Cease from anger, and forsake wrath; do not fret yourself, it leads only to evil,

37:9  For evildoers shall be cut off, but those who wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth.

37:10  It is but a little while, and the wicked shall be no more; yea, you shall diligently consider his place, but he shall not be there.

37:11  But the meek shall inherit the earth and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.

37:12  The wicked plots against the righteous and gnashes against him with his teeth.

37:13  The LORD laughs at him, for He sees that his day is coming.

37:14  The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, to kill those who walk uprightly.

37:15  Their sword shall enter into their own heart, and their bows shall be broken.

37:16  Better is the little that a righteous man has than the riches of many wicked,

37:17  For the arms of the wicked shall be broken, but the LORD upholds the righteous.

37:18  The LORD knows the days of the upright, and their inheritance shall be forever.

37:19  They shall not be ashamed in the time of evil, and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.

37:20  But the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the LORD shall be like the beauty of pastures—they are consumed, and like smoke they vanish.

37:21  The wicked borrows and does not pay again, but the righteous is gracious and gives,

37:22  For those blessed of Him shall inherit the earth; and those cursed of Him shall be cut off.

37:23  The steps of a good man are made firm by the LORD, and He delights in his way.

37:24  Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down, for the LORD upholds him with His hand.

37:25  I have been young, and now I am old; yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging bread.

37:26  All the day long he deals graciously and lends, and his children are blessed.

37:27  Depart from evil and do good; and live forevermore.

37:28  For the LORD loves justice and does not forsake His saints; they are preserved forever, but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.

37:29  The righteous shall inherit the earth and dwell in it forever.

37:30  The mouth of the righteous speaks wisdom, and his tongue talks of justice.

37:31  The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide.

37:32  The wicked watches the righteous and seeks to kill him.

37:33  The LORD will not leave him in his hand, nor condemn him when he is judged.

37:34  Wait on the LORD and keep His way, and He shall exalt you to inherit the earth; when the wicked are cut off, you shall see it.

37:35  I have seen the ruthless wicked in great power and spreading himself like a luxuriant tree in its native soil.

37:36  Yet he passed away, and lo, he was no more; and I searched for him, but he could not be found.

37:37  Mark the blameless man and behold the upright one, for the end of that man is peace.

37:38  But the sinners shall be destroyed together; the prosperity of the wicked shall be cut off.

37:39  But the salvation of the righteous is from the LORD; He is their strength in the time of trouble.

37:40  And the LORD shall help them and deliver them; He shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them because they take refuge in Him.

Chapter 38

38:1  A Psalm of David, to bring to remembrance.O LORD, do not rebuke me in Your wrath; neither chasten me in Your fury,

38:2  For Your arrows stick fast in me, and Your hand presses heavily upon me.

38:3  There is no soundness in my flesh because of Your anger; nor rest in my bones because of my sin,

38:4  For my iniquities have gone over my head; like a heavy burden they are too heavy for me.

38:5  My wounds are putrefied and fester because of my foolishness.

38:6  I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long,

38:7  For my loins are filled with a burning; and there is no soundness in my flesh.

38:8  I am feeble and painfully broken; I groan because of the anguish of my heart.

38:9  My LORD, all my desire is before You; and my sighing is not hidden from You.

38:10  My heart pants; my strength fails me; as for the light of my eyes, it also is gone from me.

38:11  My loved ones and My friends stand apart from My plague; and My neighbors stand far off.

38:12  And those who seek my life lay snares for me; and those who seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and plot deceptions all the day long.

38:13  But like a deaf one, I do not hear; and I am like a dumb one who opens not his mouth.

38:14  Thus I am as a man who hears not, and in whose mouth are no reproofs,

38:15  For in You, O LORD, do I hope; You will answer, O LORD my God,

38:16  For I said, "Hear me, lest they rejoice over me; when my foot slips, they magnify themselves against me."

38:17  For I am ready to fall, and my pain is always before me,

38:18  For I will confess my iniquity; I am full of anxiety because of my sin.

38:19  And my enemies are vigorous; they are strong; and those who hate me without reason are multiplied.

38:20  And those who render evil for good oppose me because I follow what is good.

38:21  Forsake me not, O LORD; O my God, be not far from me.

38:22  Make haste to help me, O LORD my salvation.

Chapter 39

39:1  To the Chief Musician, to Jeduthun. A Psalm of David.I said, "I will take heed to my ways so that I do not sin with my tongue; I will keep my mouth with a bridle while the wicked are before me."

39:2  I became dumb, keeping silent; I said nothing good, and yet my sorrow grew worse.

39:3  My heart was hot within me; while I was musing, the fire burned; then I spoke with my tongue:

39:4  "O LORD, make me to know my end and the measure of my days, what it is, that I may know how short lived I am.

39:5  Behold, You have made my days as a handbreadth, and the span of my days is as nothing before You. Surely every man at his best state is altogether vanity. Selah.

39:6  Surely every man walks about in a vain show! Surely they are in an uproar in vain. He heaps up riches and does not know who shall gather them.

39:7  And now, LORD, what do I wait for? My hope is in You.

39:8  Deliver me from all my transgressions; make me not the reproach of the fool.

39:9  I was dumb; I did not open my mouth because You have done it.

39:10  Remove Your stroke away from me; I am consumed by the blow of Your hand.

39:11  You correct a man for iniquity with rebukes, and You make his beauty to vanish away like a moth. Surely every man is vanity. Selah.

39:12  Hear my prayer, O LORD, and give ear to my cry. Do not be silent at my tears; for I am a stranger with You, a sojourner, as all my fathers were.

39:13  Look away from me, that I may recover strength before I depart and am no more."

Chapter 40

40:1  To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.I waited patiently for the LORD, and He inclined unto me and heard my cry.

40:2  He brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps.

40:3  And He has put a new song in my mouth, even praise to our God; many shall see and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.

40:4  Blessed is the man who makes the LORD his trust and does not respect the proud, nor those who turn aside to lies.

40:5  O LORD my God, many things You have done, Your wonderful works and Your thoughts which are toward us; there is none to compare unto You; if I could declare and speak of them, they would be more than can be told.

40:6  Sacrifice and offering You did not desire; My ears You have opened; burnt offering and sin offering You have not required.

40:7  Then I said, "Lo, I come; in the scroll of the book it is written of Me;

40:8  I delight to do Your will, O My God; and Your law is within My heart."

40:9  I have preached righteousness in the great congregation; lo, I have not kept back my lips, O LORD, You know.

40:10  I have not hidden Your righteousness within my heart; I have declared Your faithfulness and Your salvation; I have not hidden Your lovingkindness and Your truth from the great congregation.

40:11  Do not withhold Your tender mercies from me, O LORD; let Your lovingkindness and Your truth always preserve me,

40:12  For evils without number have encircled me; my iniquities have taken hold on me, so that I am not able to look up; they are more than the hairs of my head, and my heart fails me.

40:13  Be pleased, O LORD, to deliver me; O LORD, make haste to help me.

40:14  Let them be ashamed and confounded together, those who seek after my soul to destroy it; let them be driven backward and put to shame, those who delight in my hurt.

40:15  Let them be desolate as a reward for their shame, those who say to me, "Aha, aha!"

40:16  Let all those who seek You rejoice and be glad in You, and let the one who loves Your salvation always say, "Let the LORD be magnified."

40:17  But I am poor and needy; may the LORD think upon me; You are my help and my deliverer; O my God, do not delay.

Chapter 41

41:1  To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.Blessed is he who considers the poor; the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble.

41:2  The LORD will watch over him and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth; and You will not deliver him over to the will of his enemies.

41:3  The LORD will strengthen him upon his sickbed; You will sustain him in all his sickness.

41:4  I said, "LORD, be gracious unto me; heal my soul, for I have sinned against You."

41:5  My enemies speak evil of me, saying, "When will he die, and his name perish?"

41:6  And if he comes to see me, he speaks falsehood; his heart gathers iniquity to itself; he goes out and speaks of it.

41:7  All who hate me whisper against me; they plot evil against me.

41:8  They say, "A wicked thing is poured out upon him, and he who lies down shall rise no more."

41:9  Even a man, my close friend in whom I trusted, who ate of my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.

41:10  But You, O LORD, be gracious unto me and raise me up, so that I may repay them.

41:11  By this I know that You delight in me because my enemy does not triumph over me.

41:12  And as for me, You uphold me in my integrity; and You set me before Your face forever.

41:13  Blessed is the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and Amen!

Chapter 42

42:1  To the Chief Musician. A contemplation for the sons of Korah.As the hart pants after the water brooks, so my soul pants after You, O God.

42:2  My soul thirsts for God, for the living God; when shall I come and appear before God?

42:3  My tears have been my food day and night, while they say to me all the day, "Where is your God?"

42:4  I remember these things, I pour out my soul within me; for I used to go along with the multitude; I led them to the house of God with the voice of joy and praise, a multitude keeping the feast.

42:5  Why are you cast down, O my soul, and moan within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him for the salvation of His countenance.

42:6  O my God, my soul is cast down within me; therefore I will remember You from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermons from Mount Mizar.

42:7  Deep calls unto deep at the noise of Your waterfalls; all Your waves and Your billows have gone over me.

42:8  The LORD will command His lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night His song shall be with me, even a prayer to the God of my life.

42:9  I will say to God my Rock, "Why have You forgotten me? Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?"

42:10  As with a crushing in my bones, my enemies taunt me while they say to me all day long, "Where is your God?"

42:11  Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why do you moan within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him, the salvation of my countenance, and my God.

Chapter 43

43:1  Vindicate me, O God, and plead my cause against an ungodly nation. Oh, deliver me from the deceitful and unjust man,

43:2  For You are the God of my strength; why do You cast me off? Why do I go mourning under the oppression of the enemy?

43:3  Oh, send out Your light and Your truth; let them lead me; let them bring me to Your holy mountain and to Your tabernacles.

43:4  Then I will go to the altar of God, to God my exceeding joy; yea, upon the lyre I will praise You, O God, my God.

43:5  Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why do you moan within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him, the salvation of my countenance, and my God.

Chapter 44

44:1  To the Chief Musician. A contemplation for the sons of Korah.We have heard with our ears, O God; our fathers have told us the work which You did in their days, in the days of old.

44:2  You drove out the nations with Your hand and planted them; You did afflict the people and cast them out,

44:3  For not by their own sword did they possess the land, neither did their own arm save them; but it was Your right hand, and Your arm, and the light of Your countenance because You favored them.

44:4  You are my King, O God; command deliverance for Jacob.

44:5  Through You we will push back our enemies; through Your name we will trample those who rise up against us,

44:6  For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me.

44:7  But You have saved us from our enemies and have put them to shame, those who hated us.

44:8  In God we boast all the day long and praise Your name forever. Selah.

44:9  Yet You have cast us off, and have shamed us, and You do not go forth with our armies.

44:10  You make us turn back from the adversary and those who hate us plunder for themselves.

44:11  You have given us like sheep to be eaten and have scattered us among the heathen.

44:12  You have sold Your people for no great price, gaining nothing from their sale.

44:13  You make us a curse to our neighbors, a scorn and a mockery to those who are round about us.

44:14  You make us a byword among the nations, a shaking of the head among the people.

44:15  My confusion is before me all day long, and the shame of my face has covered me

44:16  Because of the voice of him who slanders and reviles, and because of the enemy and avenger.

44:17  All this has come upon us, yet we have not forgotten You nor have we dealt falsely in Your covenant.

44:18  Our heart has not turned back, nor have our steps turned aside from Your way,

44:19  Yet You have crushed us in the place of jackals and covered us with the shadow of death.

44:20  If we have forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our hands to a strange god,

44:21  Shall not God search this out? For He knows the secrets of the heart.

44:22  Yea, for Your sake we are put to death all day long; we are counted as sheep for the slaughter.

44:23  Awake! Why do You sleep, O LORD? Arise! Do not cast us off forever.

44:24  Why do You hide Your face, and forget our affliction and our oppression?

44:25  For our soul is bowed down to the dust; our belly cleaves to the earth.

44:26  Arise for our help, and redeem us for the sake of Your steadfast love.

Chapter 45

45:1  To the Chief Musician. "Concerning the Lilies." A contemplation for the sons of Korah. A Song of Loves.My heart overflows with a goodly matter; I speak of my works to the King; my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.

45:2  You are more excellent than the children of men; grace is poured upon Your lips; therefore God has blessed You forever.

45:3  Gird Your sword upon Your thigh, O Mighty One, with Your glory and Your majesty.

45:4  And ride victoriously in Your majesty in behalf of truth and meekness and righteousness; and let Your right hand teach You awesome things.

45:5  Your arrows are sharp in the heart of the King's enemies, whereby the people fall under You.

45:6  Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; a scepter of justice is the scepter of Your kingdom.

45:7  You love righteousness and hate wickedness; therefore God, Your God, has anointed You with the oil of gladness above Your fellows.

45:8  All Your garments smell of myrrh, and aloes and cassia, out of the ivory palaces, stringed instruments have made You glad.

45:9  Kings' daughters are among Your honorable women; on Your right hand stands the queen in gold from Ophir.

45:10  Hearken, O daughter, and consider and incline your ear; and forget also your own people and your father's house.

45:11  Then the King will greatly desire your beauty; for He is your Lord, so honor Him.

45:12  And the daughter of Tyre shall be there with a gift; even the rich among the people shall entreat your favor.

45:13  The king's daughter is all glorious within; her clothing is trimmed with gold.

45:14  She shall be brought to the King in embroidered garments; the virgins, her companions who follow after her, shall be brought to You.

45:15  They shall be led with joy and gladness; they shall enter into the King's palace.

45:16  Your sons shall be in the place of your fathers; you will make them princes in all the land.

45:17  I will make Your name to be remembered in all generations; therefore the people shall praise You forever and ever.

Chapter 46

46:1  To the Chief Musician. A Song for the sons of Korah.God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

46:2  Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea,

46:3  Though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains shake with the swelling of it. Selah.

46:4  There is a river whose streams make the city of God rejoice, the holy dwelling place of the Most High.

46:5  God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved; God shall help her at the approach of the morning.

46:6  The nations raged, the kingdoms were shaken; He uttered His voice, the earth melted.

46:7  The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

46:8  Come, behold the works of the LORD who makes desolations upon the earth,

46:9  Who makes wars to cease to the ends of the earth; He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two; He burns the chariots in the fire.

46:10  "Be still, and know that I am God! I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth."

46:11  The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

Chapter 47

47:1  To the Chief Musician. A Song for the sons of Korah.Clap your hands, all you people; shout to God with the voice of triumph,

47:2  For the LORD Most High is awesome; He is a great King over all the earth.

47:3  He shall subdue the people under us and nations under our feet.

47:4  He shall choose our inheritance for us, the excellency of Jacob whom He loved. Selah.

47:5  God has gone up with a shout, the LORD with the sound of a horn.

47:6  Sing praises to God, sing praises; sing praises to our King, sing praises,

47:7  For God is King of all the earth; sing praises with understanding.

47:8  God reigns over the nations; God sits upon the throne of His holiness.

47:9  The rulers of the peoples are gathered together, the people of the God of Abraham for the shields of the earth are God's; He is greatly exalted.

Chapter 48

48:1  A Song and Psalm for the sons of Korah.Great is the LORD, and highly to be praised in the city of our God, in His holy mountain.

48:2  Beautiful in its loftiness, the joy of all the earth is Mount Zion on the sides of the north, the city of the great King.

48:3  God in her palace has shown Himself to be a fortress,

48:4  For lo, the kings assembled themselves; they advanced together.

48:5  They saw and so they marveled; they were troubled, and hurried away.

48:6  Fear took hold upon them there, and pain, like a woman in labor.

48:7  You break the ships of Tarshish with an east wind.

48:8  As we have heard, so we have seen in the city of the LORD of hosts, in the city of our God. God will establish it forever. Selah.

48:9  We have thought of Your lovingkindness, O God, in the midst of Your temple.

48:10  As is Your name, O God, so is Your praise to the ends of the earth. Your right hand is full of righteousness.

48:11  Let Mount Zion rejoice! Let the daughters of Judah shout for joy because of Your judgments!

48:12  Walk around Zion, and go all around her; count her towers;

48:13  Consider her ramparts, go through her palaces, so that you may tell it to the coming generation,

48:14  For this God is our God forever and ever; He will guide us even unto death.

Chapter 49

49:1  To the Chief Musician. A Psalm for the sons of Korah.Hear this, all you people; give ear, all inhabitants of the world:

49:2  Both low and high, rich and poor together.

49:3  My mouth shall speak of wisdom, and the thoughts of my heart shall be of understanding.

49:4  I will incline my ear to a parable; I will open my dark saying upon the lyre.

49:5  Why should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity of my supplanters surrounds me?

49:6  Those who trust in their wealth and in their many riches boast themselves.

49:7  No man can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him—

49:8  For the redemption of their soul is costly, and no payment is ever enough.

49:9  That he should live forever and never see corruption,

49:10  For he sees wise men die; likewise the fool and the brutish person perish together, and leave their wealth to others.

49:11  Their inward thought is that their houses shall go on forever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names.

49:12  Nevertheless man, though high in honor, does not remain; he is like the beasts that perish.

49:13  This is the way of the foolish, and of their followers who delight in their sayings. Selah.

49:14  Like sheep they are appointed to the grave; death shall be their shepherd and the upright shall have the rule over them in the morning; and their form shall decay in the grave far from their home.

49:15  But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave, for He will receive me. Selah.

49:16  Be not afraid when one becomes rich, when the wealth of his house increases;

49:17  For when he dies he shall take nothing with him; his wealth shall not descend after him.

49:18  Though during his life he blessed his soul; yea, men will praise you when you do well to yourself.

49:19  He shall go to the generation of his fathers; they shall never see light.

49:20  A man in honor, but without understanding, is like the beasts; they shall perish.

Chapter 50

50:1  A Psalm of Asaph.The mighty God, God, the LORD, has spoken and called the earth from the rising of the sun to its going down.

50:2  Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God has shined forth.

50:3  Our God shall come, and He shall not keep silent; a fire shall devour before Him, and it shall be very tempestuous all around Him.

50:4  He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, so that He may judge His people:

50:5  "Gather My saints unto Me, those who have made a covenant with Me by sacrifice."

50:6  And the heavens shall declare His righteousness, for God Himself is judge. Selah.

50:7  "Hear, My people, and I will speak, O Israel, and I will testify against you; I am God, even your God.

50:8  I will not reprove you for your sacrifices, or your burnt offerings which are continually before Me.

50:9  I will take no bull out of your house, nor he-goats out of your folds,

50:10  For every beast of the forest is Mine and the livestock upon a thousand hills.

50:11  I know all the birds of the mountains; and the wild beasts of the field are Mine.

50:12  If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world is Mine, and all the fullness of it.

50:13  Will I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats?

50:14  Offer to God thanksgiving; and pay your vows to the Most High;

50:15  And call upon Me in the day of trouble; and I will deliver you, and you shall honor Me."

50:16  But to the wicked God says, "What right have you to declare My statutes, and to take up My covenant in your mouth?

50:17  Yea, you hate to be taught, and you cast My words behind you.

50:18  When you saw a thief, then you were pleased to be with him, and you have taken part with adulterers.

50:19  You give your mouth to evil, and your tongue frames deceit.

50:20  You sit; you speak against your brother; you slander your own mother's son.

50:21  These things you have done, and I have kept silence; you thought that I was like yourself, but I will rebuke you, and set them in order before your eyes.

50:22  Now consider this, you who forget God, lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver.

50:23  Whoever offers praise glorifies Me; and he who sets his conduct aright, I will show him the salvation of God."

Chapter 51

51:1  To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came to him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba.Have mercy upon me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness; according to the greatness of Your compassion, blot out my transgressions.

51:2  Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin,

51:3  For I acknowledge my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me.

51:4  Against You, You only, have I sinned, and done evil in Your sight, that You might be justified when You speak and be in the right when You judge.

51:5  Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me.

51:6  Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts; and in the hidden part You shall make me to know wisdom.

51:7  Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

51:8  Make me to hear joy and gladness that the bones which You have broken may rejoice.

51:9  Hide Your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities.

51:10  Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.

51:11  Cast me not away from Your presence, and take not Your Holy Spirit from me.

51:12  Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and let Your free spirit uphold me.

51:13  Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, and sinners shall turn back to You.

51:14  Deliver me from the guilt of shedding blood, O God, O God of my salvation, then my tongue shall sing aloud of Your righteousness.

51:15  O LORD, open my lips, and my mouth shall declare Your praise,

51:16  For You do not desire sacrifice, or else I would give it; You do not take pleasure in burnt offering.

51:17  The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise.

51:18  Do good in Your good pleasure to Zion; build the walls of Jerusalem.

51:19  Then shall You be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering; then they shall offer bulls upon Your altar.

Chapter 52

52:1  To the Chief Musician. A contemplation. A Psalm of David, when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul, and said to him, "David has come to the house of Ahimelech."Why do you boast yourself in evil, O mighty man? The mercy of God endures forever.

52:2  Your tongue devises destruction, like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.

52:3  You love evil more than good, and lying more than to speak righteousness. Selah.

52:4  You love all devouring words, O deceitful tongue.

52:5  God will likewise destroy you forever; He shall take you away, and pluck you out of your tent, and root you out of the land of the living. Selah.

52:6  And the righteous shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him, saying,

52:7  "Behold, the man who did not make God his stronghold, but trusted in the abundance of his riches. He strengthened himself in his wickedness."

52:8  But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God; I trust in the mercy of God forever and ever.

52:9  I will praise You forever because You have done it; and I will wait on Your name, for it is good in the presence of Your saints.

Chapter 53

53:1  To the Chief Musician on Mahalath. A contemplation. A Psalm of David.The fool has said in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, and have worked out abominable wickedness; there is no one who does good.

53:2  God looked down from heaven upon the children of men to see if there were any who understand, who are seeking after God.

53:3  Every one has turned away; they have altogether become corrupt; no one is doing good, no, not even one.

53:4  Will the workers of iniquity never learn? They eat up my people as they eat bread; they have not called upon God.

53:5  There they were in great fear where no fear was, for God has scattered the bones of him who camps against you; you have put them to shame because God has rejected them.

53:6  Oh, that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! When God brings back His people out of exile, let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad.

Chapter 54

54:1  To the Chief Musician, on stringed instruments. A contemplation. A Psalm of David, when the Ziphites came and said to Saul, "Does not David hide himself among us?"Save me, O God, by Your name, and vindicate me by Your might.

54:2  Hear my prayer, O God; give ear to the words of my mouth,

54:3  For strangers have risen up against me, and violent men seek after my soul; they have not set God before them. Selah.

54:4  Behold, God is my helper; the LORD is with those who uphold my soul.

54:5  He shall reward evil to my enemies. Destroy them in Your faithfulness.

54:6  I will freely sacrifice to You; I will praise Your name, O LORD, for it is good,

54:7  For He has delivered me out of all trouble, and my eye has seen its desire upon my enemies.

Chapter 55

55:1  To the Chief Musician. For stringed instruments. A contemplation. A Psalm of David.Give ear to my prayer, O God, and hide not Yourself from my supplication.

55:2  Attend to me, and answer me; I am distraught in my trouble and moan in my complaint

55:3  Because of the voice of the enemy; because of the oppression of the wicked—for they cast mischief upon me, and in anger they hate me.

55:4  My heart is pained within me; and the terrors of death have fallen upon me.

55:5  Fear and trembling have come upon me, and horror has overwhelmed me.

55:6  And I said, "Oh, that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and be at rest.

55:7  Lo, then I would wander far off; I would lodge in the wilderness. Selah.

55:8  I would hasten to a place of shelter from the windy storm and tempest."

55:9  Destroy, O LORD, and divide their tongues; for I have seen violence and strife in the city.

55:10  They go around her upon her walls by day and night; and iniquity and mischief are in her midst.

55:11  Wickedness is in her midst; oppression and guile will not depart from her streets,

55:12  For it is not an enemy who reviled me—then I could have borne it. It is not one who hates me who magnified himself against me—or I would hide myself from him.

55:13  But it is you, a man my equal, my companion and my familiar friend.

55:14  We took sweet counsel together and walked into the house of God with the throng.

55:15  Let death take hold upon them, and let them go down alive into the grave; for evil is among them and in their dwellings.

55:16  As for me, I will call upon God, and the LORD will save me.

55:17  Evening and morning, and at noon, I will cry aloud in my distress; and He shall hear my voice.

55:18  He has redeemed my soul in peace from the battle that was against me, for there were many against me.

55:19  God shall hear and afflict them, even He who is enthroned of old. Selah. Those who never change their ways and have no fear of God.

55:20  He has put forth his hands against those who were at peace with him; he has broken his covenant.

55:23  But You, O God, will bring them down into the pit of destruction; bloody and deceitful men shall not live out half their days but I will trust in You.

Chapter 56

56:1  To the Chief Musician. "Concerning the silent dove—those far off." Of David, a secret treasure— when the Philistines took him in Gath.Be gracious unto me, O God, for man would swallow me up; fighting all the day, he oppresses me.

56:2  Those who lie in wait for me would trample me, for many are those who proudly fight against me.

56:3  When I am afraid, I will trust in You.

56:4  In God—I will praise His word—in God I have put my trust; I will not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?

56:5  All day long they pervert my words; all their thoughts are against me for evil.

56:6  They stir up strife; they hide themselves; they watch my steps as they wait for my soul.

56:7  Because of iniquity cast them out. In Your anger cast down the people, O God.

56:8  You number my wanderings, O put my tears into Your bottle; are they not in Your book?

56:9  When I cry out to You, then my enemies will be turned back. This I know because God is for me.

56:10  In God—I will praise His word; in the LORD—I will praise His word.

56:11  In God I have put my trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?

56:12  Your vows are upon me, O God; I will give thank offerings to You,

56:13  For You have delivered my soul from death. Have You not kept my feet from falling, so that I may walk before God in the light of the living?

Chapter 57

57:1  To the Chief Musician. "Do not destroy." A secret treasure of David when he fled from Saul in the cave.Be gracious unto me, O God, be gracious unto me; for my soul trusts in You; yea, in the shadow of Your wings I will make my refuge until these great troubles pass by.

57:2  I will cry to God Most High, to God who fulfills His purpose for me.

57:3  He shall send from heaven and save me; He rebukes him who would swallow me up. Selah. God shall send forth His mercy and His truth.

57:4  My soul is among lions; I lie among those who breathe out fire, the sons of men whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.

57:5  Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let Your glory be above all the earth.

57:6  They have prepared a net for my steps; my soul is bowed down; they have dug a pit before me; into the midst of it they have fallen themselves. Selah.

58:2  Yea! In your heart you work wickedness; you weigh out the violence from your hands in the earth.

58:3  The wicked are estranged from the womb; they who speak lies go astray from birth.

58:4  Their venom is like the venom of a serpent; he stops his ear like the deaf adder,

58:5  Which will not listen to the charmer's voice, though a skillful caster of spells.

58:6  O God, break their teeth in their mouth; shatter the fangs of the young lions, O LORD.

58:7  Let them melt away like waters which run off continually. When he aims his arrows, let them be as though they were cut off.

58:8  Let them be as a slug which is melting away; as a miscarriage of a woman, so they may never see the sun.

58:9  Before your pots can feel the thorns, He shall take them away as with a whirlwind— whether green or dry.

58:10  The righteous shall rejoice when he sees the vengeance; he shall bathe his footsteps in the blood of the wicked,

58:11  So that a man shall say, "Truly, there is a reward for the righteous; truly, there is a God Who is judging in the earth."

Chapter 59

59:1  To the Chief Musician. "Do not destroy." A secret treasure of David, when Saul sent, and they watched the house to kill him.Deliver me from my enemies, O my God; defend me from those who rise up against me.

59:2  Deliver me from the workers of evil and save me from bloody men,

59:3  For behold, they lie in wait for my soul; the mighty are gathered against me—not for my transgression, nor for my sin, O LORD.

59:4  Without my fault they run and prepare themselves; awaken to help me, and look upon me.

59:5  And You therefore, O LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel, awake to punish all the nations; show no mercy to any wicked traitors. Selah.

59:6  They return at evening; they snarl like a dog, and prowl about the city.

59:7  Behold, they bellow out with their mouths; swords are in their lips, for they say, "Who hears?"

59:8  But You, O LORD, shall laugh at them; You shall hold all the nations in derision.

59:9  Because of His strength will I wait for You, for God is my strong tower.

59:10  The God of my steadfast love shall go before me; God shall let me see my desire upon my enemies.

59:11  Do not kill them, lest my people forget; scatter them by Your power and bring them down, O LORD, our shield,

Chapter 60

When he struggled with Aram-Naharaim and with Aram of Zobah, when Joab returned and struck twelve thousand of Edom in the Valley of Salt.O God, You have rejected us; You have broken us, You were angry; restore us to Yourself again.

60:2  You made the earth to tremble; You have split it open; heal the breaks of it, for it is shaking.

60:3  You have shown Your people hard things; You have made us to drink the wine of staggering.

60:4  You have given a banner to those who fear You that it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah.

60:5  Save with Your right hand and answer me, that Your beloved may be delivered.

60:6  God has spoken in His holiness: "I will rejoice; I will divide Shechem and measure out the valley of Succoth.

60:7  Gilead is Mine, and Manasseh is Mine; and Ephraim is the strength of My head; Judah is My scepter;

60:8  Moab is My washpot; upon Edom I will cast My shoe; over Philistia I shout in triumph."

60:9  Who will bring me into the fortified city? Who will lead me into Edom?

60:10  Have not You, O God, cast us off? And was it not You, O God, Who did not go out with our armies?

60:11  O give us help against our foe, for vain is the help of man.

60:12  Through God we shall do great things, for it is He who shall tread down our enemies.

Chapter 61

61:2  From the end of the earth I cry to You when my heart is overwhelmed; lead me to the Rock higher than me,

61:3  For You have been a shelter for me, a strong tower against the enemy.

61:4  I will dwell in Your tabernacle forever; I will take refuge in the hiding place of Your wings. Selah.

61:5  For You, O God, have heard my vows; You have given me the heritage of those who fear Your name.

61:6  May You add to the days of the king's life; may his years be as many generations.

61:7  May he abide before God forever; prepare mercy and truth to preserve him.

61:8  So I will sing praise to Your name forever, so that I may daily perform my vows.

Chapter 62

62:1  To the Chief Musician. To Jeduthun. A Psalm of David.Only for God does my soul wait in silence; from Him comes my salvation.

62:2  He only is my Rock and my salvation; He is my fortress; I shall not be greatly moved.

62:3  How long will you imagine mischief against a man? You shall be slain, all of you; you shall be like a bowing wall and as a tottering fence.

62:4  They only consult to cast him down from his great height; they delight in lies; they bless with their mouth, but inwardly they curse. Selah.

62:5  My soul, wait in silence for God alone; for from Him comes my hope.

62:6  He only is my Rock and my salvation; He is my strong tower; I shall not be moved.

62:7  In God is my salvation and my glory, the Rock of my strength; my refuge is in God.

62:8  Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us. Selah.

62:9  Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie; when weighed in the balance, they are altogether lighter than vanity.

62:10  Trust not in oppression, and do not take pride in stolen goods; if riches increase, do not set your heart upon them.

62:11  God has spoken once; twice I have heard this: that power belongs to God.

62:12  Also to You, O LORD, belongs mercy; for You give to every man according to his work.

Chapter 63

63:1  TA Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah.O God, You are my God, earnestly I will seek You! My soul thirsts for You. My flesh longs for You, as in a dry and thirsty land where no water is,

63:2  To see Your power and Your glory— as I have seen You in the sanctuary.

63:3  Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise You.

63:4  Thus I will bless You as long as I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name.

63:5  My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips

63:6  When I remember You upon my bed and meditate on You in the night watches.

63:7  Because You have been my help, therefore in the shadow of Your wings I will rejoice.

63:8  My soul follows hard after You; Your right hand upholds me.

63:9  But those who seek my life to destroy it shall go into the depths of the earth.

Chapter 64

64:1  To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.Hear my voice, O God, in my complaint; preserve my life from fear of the enemy.

64:2  Hide me from the secret counsel of the wicked, from the rebellion of the workers of iniquity,

64:3  Who sharpen their tongue like a sword and bend their bows to shoot their arrows, even bitter words;

64:4  So that they may shoot at the blameless from concealment—suddenly they shoot at him, and fear not.

64:5  They encourage themselves in an evil plan; they talk of laying snares secretly; they say, "Who shall see them?"

64:6  They plot injustices, saying, "We have made a perfect plan." For the inward thought and heart of man is cunning.

64:7  But God shall shoot at them with an arrow; suddenly they shall be wounded.

64:8  So they shall make their own tongue a stumbling block for themselves. Everyone seeing them shall shake the head.

64:9  And all men shall fear and shall declare the work of God, for they shall wisely consider His doing.

64:10  The righteous shall be glad in the LORD and shall take refuge in Him, and all the upright in heart shall glory.

Chapter 65

65:1  To the Chief Musician. A Psalm and Song of David.Praise waits for You, O God, in Zion; and to You shall the vow be performed.

65:2  O You Who hears prayer, unto You shall all flesh come.

65:3  Iniquities prevail against me; as for our transgressions, You shall forgive them.

65:4  Blessed is the one whom You choose and cause to come near You, that he may dwell in Your courts; we shall be satisfied with the goodness of Your house, even Your holy temple.

65:5  By awesome works in righteousness You will answer us, O God of our salvation; You are the hope of all the ends of the earth and of those of the distant sea.

65:6  The mountains are established by Your strength; You are clothed with power,

65:7  You Who still the roaring of the sea, the noise of their waves, and the uproar of the peoples.

65:8  And the inhabitants of the furthermost places of the earth stand in awe of Your signs; You make the beginning of the morning and the evening to rejoice.

65:9  You visit the earth and water it; You enrich it greatly; the river of God is full of water; You provide their grain, for in this way You have prepared it.

65:10  You water its ridges abundantly; You deepen its furrows; You make it soft with showers; You bless its growth.

65:11  You crown the year with Your goodness, and Your paths drop fatness.

65:12  They drop upon the pastures of the wilderness; and the little hills gird themselves with joy.

65:13  The pastures are clothed with flocks; the valleys also are covered over with grain; they shout for joy and sing.

Chapter 66

66:1  To the Chief Musician. A Song. A Psalm.Make a joyful noise to God, all the earth.

66:2  Sing forth the honor of His name; make His praise glorious.

66:3  Say to God, "How awesome are Your works! Through the greatness of Your power, Your enemies submit themselves in obedience to You.

66:4  All the earth shall worship You and shall sing praises to You; they shall sing praises to Your name." Selah.

66:5  Come and see the works of God; He is awesome in His deeds toward the sons of men.

66:6  He turned the sea into dry land; they went through the river on foot; there we rejoiced in Him.

66:7  He rules by His power forever; His eyes keep watch upon the nations; let not the rebellious exalt themselves. Selah.

66:8  O bless our God, O peoples, and make the sound of His praise to be heard,

66:9  He Who keeps us in life and does not allow our feet to slide,

66:10  For You have tested us, O God. You have refined us as silver is refined.

66:11  You have brought us into the net. You have laid affliction upon our loins.

66:12  You have caused men to ride over our head. We have gone through fire and through water, but You have brought us out to a place of abundance.

66:13  I will come into Your house with burnt offerings; I will pay You my vows,

66:14  Which my lips have uttered and my mouth has spoken when I was in trouble.

66:15  I will offer to You burnt sacrifices of fatlings, with the incense of rams; I will offer bulls with goats. Selah.

66:16  Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will declare what He has done for my soul.

66:18  If I regard iniquity in my heart, the LORD will not hear me;

Chapter 67

67:2  So that Your way may be known on earth, Your salvation among all nations.

67:3  Let the people praise You, O God; let all the people praise You.

67:4  O let the nations be glad and sing for joy, for You shall judge the people righteously and govern the nations upon earth. Selah.

67:5  Let the people praise You, O God; let all the people praise You.

67:6  The earth shall yield its increase; and God, even our own God, shall bless us.

67:7  God shall bless us, and all the ends of the earth shall fear Him.

Chapter 68

68:1  To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. A Song.Let God arise, let His enemies be scattered; also let those who hate Him flee before Him.

68:2  As smoke is driven away, so drive them away; as wax melts before the fire, so let the wicked perish in the presence of God.

68:3  But let the righteous be glad; let them rejoice before God. Yea, let them exceedingly rejoice.

68:4  Sing to God, sing praises to His name; extol Him who rides upon the clouds Whose name is the LORD, and rejoice before Him.

68:5  In His holy habitation God is the father of the fatherless and the judge of the widows.

68:6  God gives the lonely a home to dwell in; He brings out those who are bound with chains, but the rebellious dwell in a dry land.

68:7  O God, when You marched before Your people, You marched through the wilderness. Selah,

68:8  The earth shook, indeed the heavens also dropped rain at the presence of God; Sinai itself was moved at the presence of God, the God of Israel.

68:9  You, O God, sent a plentiful rain by which You confirmed Your inheritance when it was weary.

68:10  Your congregation has dwelt in it; You, O God, in Your goodness have provided for the poor.

68:11  The LORD gave the word; great was the company of those that proclaimed it:

68:12  "Kings of armies fled away; and she who remained at home divided the plunder.

68:13  When you lie among the sheepfolds, the wings of a dove are covered with silver, and its pinions with the shimmer of gold."

68:14  When the Almighty scattered kings in it, You caused snow to fall in Zalmon.

68:15  The mountain of Bashan is God's mountain; a mountain of peaks is the mountain of Bashan.

68:16  Why do you gaze in envy, O mountain range, at the mountain God has chosen for His resting place? Yea, the LORD will dwell in it forever.

68:17  The chariots of God are myriads, thousands upon thousands; the LORD is among them, in Sinai, in the holy place.

68:18  You have ascended on high; You have led captivity captive; You have received gifts among men, yea, among the rebellious also, that You might dwell among them, O LORD God.

68:19  Blessed is the LORD; He daily bears our burdens, the God of our salvation. Selah.

68:20  Our God is the God of salvation; for unto the sovereign Lord belong the issues of death.

68:21  Yea, God shall crush the head of His enemies, and the hairy crown of him who walks on still in his trespasses.

68:22  The LORD said, "I will bring again from Bashan; I will bring back My people from the depths of the sea;

68:23  So that your foot may wade through the blood, and the tongues of your dogs share in it from your enemies."

68:24  They have seen Your goings, O God, the goings of my God, my King, into the sanctuary.

68:26  O bless God in the congregations, even the Lord, You Who are from the fountain of Israel.

68:27  There is little Benjamin with their ruler, the leaders of Judah and their multitude, the leaders of Zebulun, and the leaders of Naphtali.

68:28  Your God has commanded your strength; O God, be strong in that which You have worked out for us,

68:29  Out of Your temple in Jerusalem, where kings shall bring presents to You.

68:30  Rebuke the wild beasts of the reeds, the multitude of bulls, the calves of the people, trampling underfoot the pieces of silver. He scatters the people who delight in war.

68:31  Princes shall come out of Egypt; Ethiopia shall stretch out her hands unto God.

68:32  Sing unto God, you kingdoms of the earth; O sing praises unto the LORD. Selah.

68:33  To Him Who rides upon the heaven of heavens which are of old; lo, He sends out His voice, a mighty voice.

Chapter 69

69:1  To the Chief Musician. "Concerning the Lilies." A Psalm of David.Save me, O God, for the waters have come in upon my soul!

69:2  I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing; I have come into deep waters, where the floods overwhelm me.

69:3  I am weary with my crying; my throat is parched; my eyes fail while I wait for my God.

69:4  Those who hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of my head; those who would cut me off are mighty being wrongfully my enemies. Should I restore what I did not take away?

69:5  O God, You know my foolishness, and my sins are not hidden from You.

69:6  Do not let those who wait on You, O Lord God of hosts, be ashamed because of me; let not the ones who seek You be ashamed because of me, O God of Israel

69:7  Because for Your sake I have borne reproach, shame has covered my face.

69:8  I have become a stranger to My brothers and an alien to My mother's children,

69:9  For the zeal of Your house has eaten Me up, and the reproaches of those who reproached You have fallen upon Me.

69:10  When I wept in my soul with fasting, it became my reproach.

69:11  I also made sackcloth my clothing, and I became a proverb to them.

69:12  Those who sit in the gate speak about me; and I was the song of the drunkards.

69:13  But as for me, my prayer is to You, O LORD, in an acceptable time; O God, in the abundance of Your mercy answer me, in the truth of Your salvation.

69:14  Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink; let me be delivered from those who hate me and out of the deep waters.

69:15  Do not let the flood of waters overflow me, nor let the deep swallow me up, and let not the pit shut its mouth upon me.

69:16  Answer me, O LORD, for Your steadfast love is good; turn unto me according to the multitude of Your tender mercies.

69:17  And hide not Your face from Your servant, for I am in trouble; answer me speedily.

69:18  Draw near unto my soul and redeem it; deliver me because of my enemies.

69:19  You have known my reproach, and my shame, and my dishonor; my enemies are all before You.

69:20  Reproach has broken my heart, and I am full of heaviness; and I looked for sympathy, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none.

69:21  They also gave Me gall for My food; and in My thirst they gave Me vinegar to drink.

69:22  Let their table become a snare before them; and when they are at peace, let it become a trap.

69:23  Let their eyes be darkened, so that they do not see; and make their loins shake without ceasing.

69:24  Pour out Your indignation upon them, and let the fierceness of anger take hold of them.

69:25  Let their encampment be desolate; let none dwell in their tents,

69:26  For they persecute him whom You have stricken, and they recount the grief of those You have wounded.

69:27  Add iniquity unto their iniquity, and let them not come into Your righteousness.

69:28  Let them be blotted out of the Book of Life and not be written with the righteous.

69:29  But I am poor and sorrowful; let Your salvation, O God, set me up on high.

69:30  I will praise the name of God with a song and will magnify Him with thanksgiving.

69:31  This also shall please the LORD better than a bullock that has horns and hoofs.

69:32  The humble shall see and be glad; and your heart shall live, you who seek God,

69:33  For the LORD hears the needy and does not despise His prisoners.

69:34  Let the heavens and earth praise Him, the seas, and everything that moves in them,

69:35  For God will save Zion, and will build the cities of Judah; so that they may dwell there and possess it.

69:36  And the seed of His servants shall inherit it, and those who love His name shall dwell in it.

Chapter 70

70:1  To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David, to bring to remembrance.Make haste, O God, to deliver me; make haste to help me, O LORD.

70:2  Let them be ashamed and confounded, those who seek after my soul; let them be turned backward and put to confusion, those who desire my hurt.

70:3  Let them be turned back for a reward of their shame, those who say, "Aha, aha!"

70:4  Let all those who seek You rejoice and be glad in You; and let those who love Your salvation say without ending, "Let God be magnified."

70:5  But I am poor and needy; make haste unto me, O God; You are my help and my deliverer; O LORD, wait no longer!

Chapter 71

71:1  In You, O LORD, have I taken refuge; let me never be put to shame.

71:2  Deliver me in Your righteousness and cause me to escape; incline Your ear unto me, and save me.

71:3  Be my strong Rock of refuge to which I may always go; You have commanded to save me; for You are my Rock and my Fortress.

71:4  Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked, out of the hand of the unrighteous and ruthless man,

71:5  For You are my hope, O Lord GOD, my trust from my youth.

71:6  By You I have been upheld from the womb; You are He who took me out of my mother's belly; my praise always shall be of You.

71:7  I am like a wonder to many, but You are my strong refuge.

71:8  Let my mouth be filled with Your praise, with Your glory all the day.

71:9  Cast me not off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength fails,

71:10  For my enemies speak against me; and those who watch for my soul plot together,

71:11  Saying, "God has forsaken him; pursue and take him, for there is none to deliver him."

71:12  O God, be not far from me; O my God, make haste to help me.

71:13  Let them be ashamed; let those who are enemies of my soul be consumed; let them be covered with reproach and dishonor, those who seek my hurt.

71:14  But I will hope without ceasing, and I will praise You more and more.

71:15  My mouth shall show forth Your righteousness and Your salvation all the day, for I do not know how many they are.

71:16  I will go in the strength of the Lord GOD; I will speak of Your righteousness, even of Yours alone.

71:17  O God, You have taught me from my youth; and until now I have declared Your wonderful works.

71:18  But now also when I am old and grayheaded, O God, do not forsake me until I have declared Your strength to this generation, and Your power to everyone who is to come.

71:19  And Your righteousness, O God, is very high, You Who have done great things. O God, who is like You?

71:20  You Who have shown me many and sore troubles—You will revive me again; You will bring me up again from the depths of the earth.

71:21  You will increase my greatness and surround and comfort me on every side.

71:22  I will also praise You with the harp for Your truth, O my God; I will sing praises unto you with the lyre, O Holy One of Israel.

71:23  My lips shall greatly rejoice when I sing to You, and my life, which You have redeemed.

71:24  My tongue also shall talk of Your righteousness all the day long, for those who seek my hurt are confounded; they are brought to shame.

Chapter 72

72:1  A Psalm of Solomon.Give the king Your judgments, O God, and Your righteousness to the king's son;

72:2  That he may judge Your people in righteousness and Your poor with justice.

72:3  The mountains shall bring peace to the people, and the little hills, by righteousness.

72:4  He shall judge the poor of the people; He shall save the children of the needy and shall crush in pieces the oppressor.

72:5  They shall fear You as long as the sun and moon endure throughout all generations.

72:6  He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass, like showers that water the earth.

72:7  In His days the righteous shall flourish and abundance of peace until the moon be no more.

72:8  He shall also have the rule from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth.

72:9  Those who dwell in the wilderness shall bow before Him, and His enemies shall lick the dust.

72:10  The kings of Tarshish and of the isles shall bring presents; the kings of Sheba and Seba shall offer gifts.

72:11  Yea, all kings shall prostrate themselves before Him; all nations shall serve Him,

72:12  For He shall deliver the needy when he cries, and the poor with the one who has no helper.

72:13  He shall have compassion upon the weak and needy, and shall save the lives of the needy.

72:14  He shall redeem their life from oppression and violence; and their blood shall be precious in His sight.

72:15  And he shall live, and to him shall be given the gold of Sheba, and they may pray continually for him; also daily he shall be praised.

72:16  May there be an abundance of grain in the earth upon the top of the mountains; may its fruit wave like Lebanon, and they of the city shall flourish like grass of the earth.

72:17  His name shall endure forever; His name shall be continued as long as the sun; and men shall be blessed in Him; all nations shall call Him blessed.

72:18  Blessed is the LORD God, the God of Israel, Who alone does wondrous things.

72:19  And blessed be His glorious name forever; and all the earth is filled with His glory! Amen and Amen.

72:20  The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended.

Chapter 73

73:1  A Psalm of Asaph.Truly God is good to Israel, even to those who are pure of heart.

73:2  But as for me, my feet had almost stumbled; my steps had nearly slipped,

73:3  For I was envious at the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked,

73:4  For there are no pangs in their death, and their strength is firm.

73:5  They are not in trouble like other men; neither are they plagued like other men.

73:6  Therefore pride is as a chain about their neck. Violence covers them like a garment.

73:7  Their eyes stand out with fatness; they have more than the heart could wish for.

73:8  They scoff and speak with malice; in their arrogance they threaten oppression.

73:9  They set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walks through the earth.

73:10  Therefore waters of abundance are drunk by them.

73:11  And they say, "How does God know? And is there knowledge in the Most High?"

73:12  Behold, these are the wicked, who prosper in the world; they increase in riches.

73:13  Surely I have made my heart pure in vain and washed my hands in innocence,

73:14  For all the day long I have been plagued and chastened every morning.

73:15  If I say, "I will speak thus;" behold, I would have betrayed the generation of Your children.

73:16  When I thought to understand this, it was too painful for me

73:17  Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then I understood their end.

73:18  Surely You set them in slippery places; You cast them down into destruction.

73:19  How have they been brought into desolation, as in a moment! They are utterly consumed with terrors,

73:20  Like a dream when one awakens; so, O LORD, when You awake, You shall despise their image,

73:21  For thus my heart was grieved and I was pricked in my reins.

73:22  So foolish was I, and ignorant; I was like a beast before You.

73:23  Nevertheless I am always with You; You have held me by my right hand.

73:24  You shall guide me with Your counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.

73:25  Whom have I in heaven but You? And besides You I desire none upon earth.

73:26  My flesh and my heart fail, but God is the rock of my heart and my portion forever,

73:27  For lo, those who are far from You shall perish; You have destroyed all who go awhoring from You.

73:28  And me, it is good for me to draw near to God; I have made the LORD God my refuge, that I may declare all Your works.

Chapter 74

74:1  An Instruction of Asaph.O God, why have You cast us off forever? Why does Your anger smoke against the sheep of Your pasture?

74:2  Remember Your congregation, which You have purchased of old, the rod of Your inheritance which You have redeemed; this Mount Zion in which You have dwelt.

74:3  Lift up Your feet unto the perpetual ruins; all this destruction the enemy has done in the sanctuary.

74:4  Your enemies roar in the midst of Your congregation; they set up their own banners for signs.

74:5  They seem like men who lifted up their axes against the thick trees.

74:6  With axes and hammers, they strike down all its carved idols at once.

74:7  They burned Your sanctuary to the ground; they defiled the dwelling place of Your name.

74:8  They said in their hearts, "Together let us rage against them;" they have burned up all God's meeting places in the land.

74:9  We did not see our signs; there is no longer any prophet; neither is there among us any who knows how long.

74:10  O God, how long shall the adversary speak evil? Shall the enemy blaspheme Your name forever?

74:11  Why do You withdraw Your hand, even Your right hand? Draw it out of Your bosom and consume them,

74:12  For God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth,

74:13  You divide the sea by Your strength; You break the heads of the sea monsters in the waters.

74:14  You crushed the heads of leviathan in pieces, and gave him to be food to the people living in the wilderness.

74:15  You break open the fountain and the flood; You dry up mighty rivers.

74:16  The day is Yours, the night also is Yours; You have established the light and the sun.

74:17  You have set all the boundaries of the earth; You have made summer and winter.

74:18  Remember this—that the enemy has reproached, O LORD, and the foolish people have blasphemed Your name.

74:19  O deliver not the life of Your turtledove unto the wild beasts; forget not the lives of Your afflicted people forever.

74:20  Have respect unto the covenant; for the dark places of the earth are full of the houses of cruelty.

74:21  Oh, let not the oppressed ones return ashamed; let the poor and needy praise Your name.

74:22  Arise, O God, plead Your own cause; remember how the foolish man reproaches You daily.

74:23  Forget not the voice of Your enemies; the noise of those who rise up against You increases continually.

Chapter 75

75:1  To the Chief Musician. "Do not destroy." A Psalm of Asaph. A Song.Unto You, O God, we give thanks; to You we give thanks, for Your name is near, men tell of Your wonderful works.

75:2  "When I appoint the set time, I will judge uprightly.

75:3  When the earth and all its people are dissolved, I hold up its pillars. Selah.

75:4  I said to the arrogant, 'Do not boast;' and to the wicked, 'Do not lift up the horn;

75:5  Do not lift up your horn on high; nor speak with a stiff neck.' ”

75:6  For promotion comes neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south.

75:7  But God is judge; He puts down one and sets up another,

75:8  For in the hand of the LORD there is a cup full of foaming wine mixed with spices; and He pours out from it; but the dregs of it, all the wicked of the earth shall drain its dregs and drink them.

75:9  But I will declare forever; I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.

75:10  Also I will cut off all the horns of the wicked, but the horns of the righteous shall be exalted.

Chapter 76

76:1  To the Chief Musician. For stringed instruments. A Psalm of Asaph. A Song.God is known in Judah; His name is great in Israel.

76:2  And His tabernacle is in Salem, and His dwelling place in Zion.

76:3  There He broke the fiery arrows of the bow, the shield, and the sword, and the battle. Selah.

76:4  You are resplendent with light, more majestic than the mountains of prey.

76:5  The stouthearted have been plundered; they slept their sleep; and none of the men of war can use his hands.

76:6  By Your rebuke, O God of Jacob, both the horse and the chariot are cast into a deep sleep.

76:7  You, even You, are to be feared, and who can stand in Your sight when once You are angry?

76:8  You cause judgment to be heard from heaven; the earth feared and was still

76:9  When God arose to judgment to save all the meek of the earth. Selah.

76:10  Surely the wrath of man shall praise You; the survivors of Your wrath are restrained.

76:11  Vow, and bring gifts to the LORD your God; let all that are around Him bring presents to Him Who ought to be feared.

76:12  He shall cut off the spirit in princes; He is awesome to the kings of the earth.

Chapter 77

77:1  To the Chief Musician. To Jeduthun. A Psalm of Asaph.I cried to God with my voice, to God with my voice; and He gave ear to me.

77:2  In the day of my trouble I sought the LORD; my hand was lifted up, and my tears ceased not in the night; my soul refused to be comforted.

77:3  I remembered God and was troubled; I moaned, and my spirit fainted. Selah.

77:4  You keep my eyes awake; I am too troubled and I cannot speak.

77:5  I have pondered the days of old, the years of ages past.

77:6  I remember my song in the night; I commune with my own heart, and my spirit made diligent search.

77:7  Will the LORD cast off forever? And will He be favorable no more?

77:8  Is His mercy gone forever? Has His promise failed for all generations?

77:9  Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has He in anger shut up His tender mercies? Selah.

77:10  And I said, "This is my grief, that the right hand of the Most High could change."

77:11  I will remember the works of the LORD; surely I will remember Your wonders of old.

77:12  I will also meditate on all Your work, and talk of Your doings.

77:13  Your way, O God, is in holiness; who is so great a God as our God?

77:14  You are the God Who does wonders; You have declared Your strength among the people.

77:15  You have with Your arm redeemed Your people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah.

77:16  The waters saw You, O God, the waters saw You; they were afraid; the depths also were troubled.

77:17  The clouds poured out water; the skies sent out a sound; Your arrows also flew here and there.

77:18  The voice of Your thunder was in the whirlwind; the lightnings lit up the world; the earth trembled and shook.

77:19  Your way is in the sea, and Your path in the great waters, and Your footsteps are not known.

77:20  You led Your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.

Chapter 78

78:1  An instruction of Asaph.Give ear, O my people, to my law; incline your ears to the words of my mouth.

78:2  I will open my mouth in a parable; I will speak dark sayings of old,

78:3  Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.

78:4  We will not hide them from their children, showing to the generations to come the praises of the LORD, and His strength, and His wonderful works that He has done,

78:5  For He established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which He commanded our fathers, that they should teach them to their children;

78:6  So that the generation to come might know them, children which shall be born; and they shall arise and tell them to their children,

78:7  So that they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep His commandments;

78:8  And might not be like their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation that did not set their heart aright, and whose spirit was not faithful with God.

78:9  The children of Ephraim, armed shooters of bows, turned back in the day of battle.

78:10  They did not keep the covenant of God and refused to walk in His law.

78:11  And they forgot His works and His wonders which He had shown them.

78:12  He did marvelous things in

78:13  the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan.He divided the sea and caused them to pass through; and He made the waters to stand in a heap.

78:14  And in the daytime He led them with a cloud and all the night with a light of fire.

78:15  He split the rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink, as from the great depths.

78:16  He brought streams also out of the rock and caused waters to run down like rivers.

78:17  Yet they continued to sin still more against Him by rebelling against the Most High in the wilderness.

78:18  And they tempted God in their heart by asking food for their lust.

78:19  Yea, they spoke against God; they said, "Can God set a table in the wilderness?

78:20  Behold, He struck the rock so that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed! Can He also give bread? Can He provide flesh for His people?"

78:21  Therefore the LORD heard and was furious; so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel

78:22  Because they did not believe in God and did not trust in His salvation,

78:23  Though He had commanded the clouds from above, and had opened the doors of heaven;

78:24  And He had rained down manna upon them to eat, and gave them of the grain of heaven.

78:25  Man ate the food of angels; He sent them meat to the full.

78:26  He caused an east wind to blow in heaven, and by His power He brought in the south wind.

78:27  And He also rained flesh upon them like dust, and winged birds like the sand of the sea;

78:28  And He let them fall in the midst of their camp, all around their tents.

78:29  So they ate and were filled to the full, for He gave them that which they craved.

78:30  They were not turned away from their lust, but while their food was still in their mouths,

78:31  The wrath of God came upon them and killed the strongest of them, and struck down the chosen men of Israel.

78:32  For all this they still sinned and did not believe in His wonderful works.

78:33  Therefore He ended their days in vanity and their years in terror.

78:34  When He slew them, then they sought Him; and they turned back and sought after God earnestly.

78:35  And they remembered that God was their Rock, and the Most High God was their Redeemer.

78:36  Nevertheless they flattered Him with their mouths, and they lied to Him with their tongues,

78:37  For their heart was not steadfast with Him; neither were they faithful in His covenant.

78:38  But He, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity and did not destroy them; yea, many times He turned His anger away and did not stir up all His wrath,

78:39  For He remembered that they were but flesh, a wind that passes away and does not come again.

78:40  How often did they provoke Him in the wilderness and grieve Him in the desert!

78:41  And still again they tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.

78:42  They did not remember His hand, nor the day when He delivered them from the enemy;

78:43  How He had wrought His signs in Egypt and His wonders in the fields of Zoan.

78:44  He turned their rivers into blood, so that they could not drink from their streams.

78:45  He sent different kinds of flies among them, which devoured them, and frogs, which destroyed them.

78:46  He also gave their crops to the stripping caterpillar, and their labor to the locust.

78:47  He destroyed their vines with hail, and their sycamore trees with sleet.

78:48  He gave up their livestock to the hail, and their flocks to bolts of fire.

78:49  He cast upon them the fierceness of His anger, wrath and fury and trouble, by sending evil angels among them.

78:50  He leveled a path for His anger; He did not save their soul from death, but gave their life over to the plague,

78:51  And struck all the firstborn in Egypt, the chief of their strength in the tabernacles of Ham;

78:52  But He made His own people to go forth like sheep and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.

78:53  And He led them on safely, so that they did not fear; but the sea overwhelmed their enemies.

78:54  And He brought them to the border of His holy land, to this mountain, which His right hand had bought.

78:55  He also drove out the nations before them, and divided them an inheritance by line, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.

78:56  Yet they tempted and provoked the Most High God, and kept not His testimonies;

78:57  But they turned back and dealt treacherously like their fathers; they were turned aside like a deceiving bow,

78:58  For they provoked Him to anger with their high places, and moved Him to jealousy with their carved images.

78:59  When God heard, He was wroth and greatly abhorred Israel;

78:60  So that He forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent which He placed among men,

78:61  And delivered His strength into captivity, and His glory into the enemy's hands.

78:62  He also gave His people over to the sword, and vented His wrath upon His inheritance.

78:63  The fire devoured their young men; and their maidens were not given in marriage.

78:64  Their priests fell by the sword; and their widows were not able to make a lamentation.

78:65  Then the LORD awakened like one out of sleep, like a mighty man recovering from wine.

78:66  And He drove His enemies backward; He put them to perpetual reproach.

78:67  And He rejected the tabernacle of Joseph, and chose not the tribe of Ephraim;

78:68  But chose the tribe of Judah, the Mount Zion which He loved.

78:69  And He built His holy sanctuary like the heights of heaven, like the earth which He has founded forever.

78:70  He also chose David His servant, and took him from the sheepfolds;

78:71  From following the ewes great with young, He brought him to feed Jacob His people, and Israel His inheritance.

78:72  And he fed them according to the integrity of his heart, and guided them by the skillfulness of his hands.

Chapter 79

79:1  A Psalm of Asaph.O God, the heathen have come into Your inheritance; they have defiled Your holy temple; they have laid Jerusalem in heaps.

79:2  They have given the dead bodies of Your servants as food for the birds of heaven, the flesh of Your saints to the beasts of the earth.

79:3  They have shed their blood like water round about Jerusalem, and there was none to bury them.

79:4  We have become a reproach to our neighbors, a scorn and mockery to those who are around us.

79:5  How long, O LORD? Will You be angry forever? Shall Your jealousy burn like fire?

79:6  Pour out Your wrath upon the heathen who have not known You, and upon the kingdoms who have not called upon Your name,

79:7  For they have devoured Jacob, and laid waste his dwelling place.

79:8  O do not remember against us our forefathers' iniquities; let Your tender mercies meet us quickly; for we are brought very low.

79:9  Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of Your name; and deliver us, and purge away our sins, for Your name's sake.

79:10  Why should the nations say, "Where is their God?" Let Him be known among the nations before our eyes by avenging the blood of Your servants which is shed.

79:11  Let the groaning of the prisoner come before You; according to the greatness of Your power, preserve a remnant of those who are appointed to die,

79:12  And give to our neighbors their curse sevenfold into their bosom, the curse with which they have cursed You, O LORD.

79:13  So that we, Your people and sheep of Your pasture, will give You thanks forever; we will tell of Your praise to all generations.

Chapter 80

80:1  To the Chief Musician. "A Testimony Concerning the Lilies." A Psalm of Asaph.Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel; You Who lead Joseph like a flock; You Who dwell between the cherubim, shine forth.

80:2  Stir up Your strength before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh, and come, save us.

80:3  Restore us O God, and cause Your face to shine, and we shall be saved!

80:4  O LORD God of hosts, how long will You be angry against the prayer of Your people?

80:5  You feed them with the bread of tears, and give them tears to drink in great measure.

80:6  You make us a source of strife to our neighbors; and our enemies laugh among themselves.

80:7  Restore us O God of hosts, and cause Your face to shine; and we shall be saved.

80:8  You have brought a vine out of Egypt; You have cast out the nations and planted it.

80:9  You cleared a place before it, and caused it to take deep root; and it filled the land.

80:10  The mountains were covered with its shadow, and the mighty cedars with its boughs.

80:11  It sent out its branches to the sea, and its shoots to the river.

80:12  Why have You broken down its hedges, so that all those who pass by the way pluck her?

80:13  The boar out of the wood ravages it, and the wild beast of the field feeds on it.

80:14  Return, we beseech You, O God of hosts; look down from heaven, and behold, and visit this vine,

80:15  And the vineyard which Your right hand has planted, and the branch that You make strong for Yourself.

80:16  It is burned with fire and cut down; they perish at the rebuke of Your countenance.

80:17  Let Your hand be upon the man of Your right hand, upon the Son of man Whom You have made strong for Yourself.

80:18  So we will not turn back from You; make us live, and we will call upon Your name.

80:19  Restore us, O LORD God of Hosts; cause Your face to shine, and we shall be saved.

Chapter 81

81:1  To the Chief Musician. On Gittith. A Psalm of Asaph.Sing aloud unto God our strength; shout for joy to the God of Jacob.

81:2  Take up a melody, and strike the drum, the pleasant lyre with the harp.

81:3  Blow the trumpet at the new moon, also at the full moon, on our solemn feast day,

81:4  For this was a statute for Israel, a law of the God of Jacob.

81:5  This He ordained in Joseph for a testimony when He went forth against the land of Egypt; I heard a language that I understood not:

81:6  "I removed his shoulder from the burden; his hands were delivered from the pots.

81:7  You called in trouble, and I delivered you; I answered you in the secret place of thunder; I tested you at the waters of Meribah. Selah.

81:8  Hear, O My people, and I will admonish you; O Israel, if you will hearken to Me,

81:9  There shall be no strange god among you; nor shall you worship any strange god.

81:10  I am the LORD your God Who brought you out of the land of Egypt; open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.

81:11  But My people would not hearken to My voice, and Israel would have none of Me.

81:12  So I gave them up to the stubbornness of their own hearts; and they walked in their own conceits.

81:13  Oh, that My people had hearkened unto Me, and Israel had walked in My ways!

81:14  I would soon have subdued their enemies, and would have turned My hand against their adversaries.

81:15  The haters of the LORD should dwindle away before Him, and their punishment should endure forever.

81:16  And they also would have been fed with the finest of wheat; and with honey out of the rock I would have satisfied them."

Chapter 82

82:1  A Psalm of Asaph.God stands in the congregation of the mighty; He judges among the gods.

82:2  How long will you judge unjustly and respect the persons of the wicked? Selah.

82:3  Defend the poor and fatherless; do justice to the afflicted and needy.

82:4  Deliver the poor and needy; save them out of the hand of the wicked.

82:5  They do not know, neither do they understand; they walk on in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken out of course.

82:6  I have said, "You are gods; and all of you are sons of the Most High.

82:7  But you shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes."

82:8  Arise, O God, judge the earth, for You shall inherit all nations.

Chapter 83

83:1  A Song. A Psalm of Asaph.Keep not silent, O God; do not be quiet, and do not be still, O God,

83:2  For lo, Your enemies are in an uproar; and those who hate You have lifted up their head.

83:3  They take crafty counsel against Your people, and plot together against Your hidden ones.

83:4  They have said, "Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation, so that the name Israel may be remembered no more."

83:5  For with one heart they have plotted together; they have made a covenant against You—

83:6  The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagrites;

83:7  Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; the Philistines with the people of Tyre;

83:8  And Assyria has joined with them; they have helped the children of Lot. Selah.

83:9  Do to them as unto Midian, as unto Sisera, as unto Jabin at the brook Kishon

83:10  Who perished at En Dor; they became as dung for the earth.

83:11  Make their nobles like Oreb, and like Zeeb; yea, all their princes like Zebah, and like Zalmunna;

83:12  Who said, "Let us take for ourselves possession of the pastures of God."

83:13  O my God, make them like the whirling dust, like the stubble before the wind.

83:14  As the fire burns a forest, and as the flame sets the mountains on fire,

83:15  So pursue them with Your tempest, and make them afraid with Your storm.

83:16  Fill their faces with shame, that they may seek Your name, O LORD.

83:17  Let them be confounded and troubled forever; yea, let them be put to shame, and perish;

83:18  So that men may know that Your name alone is the LORD, that You alone are the Most High over all the earth.

Chapter 84

84:1  To the Chief Musician. On Gittith. A Psalm for the sons of Korah.How lovely are Your tabernacles, O LORD of hosts!

84:2  My soul longs, yea, even faints for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.

84:3  Yea, even the sparrow has found a house, and the swallow a nest for herself where she may lay her young, even Your altars, O LORD of hosts, my King and my God.

84:4  Blessed are those who dwell in Your house; they will still be praising You. Selah.

84:5  Blessed is the man whose strength is in You; Your ways are in their hearts;

84:6  Who passing through the valley of weeping make it a place of springs; yea, the early rain also clothes it with blessings.

84:7  They go from strength to strength, every one of them appearing in Zion before God.

84:8  O LORD God of hosts, hear my prayer; give ear, O God of Jacob. Selah.

84:9  Behold, O God, our shield, and look upon the face of Your anointed,

84:10  For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather stand at the threshold of the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness,

84:11  For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.

84:12  O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man who trusts in You.

Chapter 85

85:1  To the Chief Musician. A Psalm for the sons of Korah.O LORD, You have shown favor to Your land; You have brought back Jacob from exile.

85:2  You have forgiven the iniquity of Your people; You have covered all their sins. Selah.

85:3  You have taken away all Your wrath; You have turned from the fierceness of Your anger.

85:4  Restore us, O God of our salvation, and cause Your anger toward us to cease.

85:5  Will You be angry with us forever? Will You draw out Your anger to all generations?

85:6  Will You not give us life again, so that Your people may rejoice in You?

85:7  Show us Your mercy, O LORD, and grant us Your salvation.

85:8  I will hear what God the LORD will speak; for He will speak peace to His people, and to His saints, but let them not turn again to folly.

85:9  Surely His salvation is near to those who fear Him, so that glory may dwell in our land.

85:10  Mercy and truth have met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.

85:11  Truth shall spring out of the earth, and righteousness shall look down from heaven.

85:12  Yea, the LORD shall give that which is good, and our land shall yield its increase.

Chapter 86

86:1  A Prayer of David.Bow down Your ear, O LORD, answer me, for I am poor and needy.

86:2  Preserve my soul, for I am holy; O You my God, save Your servant who trusts in You.

86:3  Be merciful to me, O LORD, for I cry unto You all day long.

86:4  Rejoice the soul of Your servant, for to You, O LORD, do I lift up my soul,

86:5  For You, LORD, are good and ready to forgive, and rich in mercy to all those who call upon You.

86:6  Give ear, O LORD, to my prayer, and attend to the voice of my supplications.

86:7  In the day of my trouble I will call upon You, for You will answer me.

86:8  Among the gods there is none like You, O LORD; neither are there any works like Your works.

86:9  All nations whom You have made shall come and worship before You, O LORD, and shall glorify Your name,

86:10  For You are great and do wonderful things; You alone are God.

86:11  Teach me Your way, O LORD; I will walk in Your truth; unite my heart to fear Your name.

86:12  I will praise You, O LORD my God, with all my heart, and I will glorify Your name forevermore,

86:13  For great is Your mercy toward me; and You have delivered my soul from the depths of the grave.

86:14  O God, the proud have risen against me, and the company of violent men have sought after my life, and have not set You before them.

86:15  But You, O LORD, are a God full of compassion, and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and truth.

86:16  Oh, turn to me, and have mercy upon me; give Your strength to Your servant and save the son of Your handmaid.

86:17  Show me a token for good, so that they who hate me may see and be ashamed because You, LORD, have helped me and comforted me.

Chapter 87

87:1  A Psalm for the sons of Korah. A Song.His foundation is in the holy mountains.

87:2  The LORD loves the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob.

87:3  Glorious things are spoken of you, O city of God. Selah.

87:4  I will make mention of Rahab and Babylon to those who know me; behold, Philistia and Tyre, with Ethiopia; this man was born there.

87:5  And to Zion it shall be said, "This man and that man was born in her; and the Most High Himself shall establish her."

87:6  The LORD shall count, in recording the people, that this man was born there. Selah.

87:7  Both the singers and the players of the instruments shall be there saying, "All my thoughts are in You!"

Chapter 88

88:2  Let my prayer come before You; bow down Your ear to my cry,

88:3  For my soul is full of troubles, and my life draws near the grave.

88:4  I am counted with those who go down to the pit; I am like a feeble man with no strength;

88:5  Set apart among the dead, like the slain that lie in the grave, whom You remember no more; and they are cut off from Your hand.

88:6  You have laid me in the lowest pit, in darkness, in the deeps.

88:7  Your wrath lies hard upon me, and You have afflicted me with all Your waves. Selah.

88:8  You have put my acquaintance far away from me; You have made me an abomination to them. I am shut up, and I cannot come forth.

Chapter 89

89:1  A Poem of Ethan the Ezrahite.I will sing of the mercies of the LORD forever; with my mouth I will make known Your faithfulness to all generations,

89:2  For I have said, "Your steadfast love shall be built up forever; You shall establish Your faithfulness in the heavens."

89:3  "I have made a covenant with My chosen; I have sworn to David My servant,

89:4  'Your seed will I establish forever, and build up your throne to all generations.' " Selah.

89:5  And the heavens shall praise Your wonders, O LORD, Your faithfulness also in the congregation of the saints,

89:6  For who in the heavens can be compared with the LORD? Who among the sons of the mighty is like the LORD?

89:7  God is greatly to be feared in the congregation of the saints and to be held in reverence by all who are round about Him.

89:8  O LORD God of hosts, who is mighty like you O LORD? And Your faithfulness is round about You.

89:9  You rule the raging of the sea; when its waves arise, You still them.

89:10  You have broken Rahab in pieces as one that is slain; You have scattered Your enemies with Your strong arm.

89:11  The heavens are Yours, the earth also is Yours; You have founded the world and all its fullness.

89:12  The north and the south, You have created them; Tabor and Hermon shall rejoice in Your name.

89:13  Your arm is an arm of might; Your hand is strong, and Your right hand is exalted.

89:19  Then You spoke in a vision to Your godly ones, and You said, "I have laid help upon a mighty one; I have exalted a chosen one out of the people.

89:20  I have found David, My servant; with My holy oil I have anointed him.

89:21  My hand shall be established with him; My arm also shall strengthen him.

89:22  The enemy shall not extract from him, nor the son of wickedness afflict him.

89:23  And I will beat down his foes before his face and plague those who hate him.

89:24  But My faithfulness and My mercy shall be with him; and in My name his horn shall be exalted.

89:26  He shall cry to Me, 'My Father, You are my God, and the Rock of my salvation.'

89:27  And I will make him My firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth.

89:29  Also, will I make his seed to endure forever, and his throne as the days of heaven.

89:30  If his children forsake My law and do not walk in My judgments,

89:31  If they profane My statutes and do not keep My commandments,

89:32  Then I will visit their transgression with the rod and their iniquity with stripes.

89:33  But I will not completely take My lovingkindness from him, nor will I allow My faithfulness to fail.

89:34  I will not break My covenant, nor change the thing that has gone out of My lips.

89:35  Once I have sworn by My holiness, I will not lie to David.

89:36  His seed shall endure forever, and his throne as the sun before Me.

89:37  It shall be established forever like the moon, and like a faithful witness in the heavens." Selah.

89:38  But You have cast off and rejected us; You have been full of wrath against Your anointed.

89:39  You have turned away from the covenant of Your servant; You have defiled his crown by casting it to the ground.

Chapter 90

90:1  A Prayer of Moses, the man of God.O LORD, You have been our dwelling place in all generations.

90:2  Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever You had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting You are God.

90:3  You turn man over to destruction, and say, "Return, you children of men."

90:4  For a thousand years in Your sight are as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.

90:5  You carry them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep; in the morning they are like grass which grows up.

90:6  In the morning it sprouts and shoots up; in the evening it is cut down and dries up,

90:7  For we are consumed by Your anger, and by Your wrath we are troubled.

90:8  You have set our iniquities before You, our secret sins in the light of Your face,

90:9  For all our days pass away in Your wrath; we finish our years as with a sigh.

90:10  The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they are fourscore years, yet their span is but trouble and sorrow, for it is soon cut off and we fly away.

90:11  Who knows the power of Your anger, and Your wrath according to the fear that is due to You?

90:12  So teach us to number our days that we may apply our hearts to wisdom.

90:13  Return, O LORD! How long? And show compassion to Your servants.

90:14  O satisfy us in the morning with Your mercy, so that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.

90:15  Make us glad according to the days wherein you have afflicted us, the years in which we have seen evil.

90:16  Let Your work appear unto Your servants and Your glory unto their children.

90:17  And let the graciousness of the LORD our God be upon us; and establish the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands, establish it.

Chapter 91

91:1  He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

91:2  I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in Whom I will trust."

91:3  Surely He will deliver you from the fowler's trap and from the destroying pestilence.

91:4  He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge. His truth shall be your shield and buckler.

91:5  You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor for the arrow that flies by day,

91:6  Nor for the plague that walks in darkness, nor for the destruction laying waste at noonday.

91:7  A thousand may fall at your side and ten thousand at your right hand; it shall not come near you.

91:8  Only with your eyes you shall behold and see the recompense of the wicked.

91:9  Because you have made the LORD, Who is my refuge, even the Most High, your habitation,

91:10  No evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling,

91:11  For He shall give His angels charge over you to keep you in all your ways.

91:12  They shall bear you up in their hands, lest you dash your foot against a stone.

91:13  You shall tread upon the lion and asp; the young lion and the jackal you shall trample underfoot.

91:14  "Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high because he has known My name.

91:15  He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honor him.

91:16  With long life I will satisfy him, and show him My salvation."

Chapter 92

92:1  A Psalm or Song for the Sabbath Day.It is good to give thanks to the LORD and to sing praises unto Your name, O Most High,

92:2  To show forth Your lovingkindness in the morning and Your faithfulness every night

92:3  Upon the instrument of ten strings, and upon the harp, with melody of music upon the lyre;

92:4  For You, LORD, have made me glad with Your work; I will exult in the works of Your hands.

92:5  O LORD, how great are Your works; Your thoughts are very deep.

92:6  A brutish man does not know, nor does a fool understand this.

92:7  When the wicked spring forth as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity blossom, it is that they shall be destroyed forever;

92:8  But You, O LORD, are on high forever.

92:9  For, lo, Your enemies, O LORD, for lo, Your enemies shall perish; all the workers of iniquity shall be scattered.

92:10  But You shall lift up my horn as the wild ox, and I shall be anointed with fresh oil.

92:11  Also my eyes shall see my desire on my enemies, and my ears shall hear my desire on the wicked who rise up against me.

92:12  The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree; he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.

92:13  Those that are planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God.

92:14  They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be full of sap and very green.

92:15  To show that the LORD is upright; He is my Rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.

Chapter 93

93:1  The LORD reigns; He is clothed with majesty; the LORD is clothed with strength. He clothed Himself and the world also is established; it shall not be moved.

93:2  Your throne is established of old; You are from everlasting.

93:3  The floods have lifted up, O LORD, the floods have lifted up their voices; the floods lift up their waves.

93:4  The LORD on high is mightier than the thunders of many waters, yea, mightier than the mighty waves of the sea.

93:5  Your testimonies are very sure; holiness adorns Your house forever, O LORD.

Chapter 94

94:1  O LORD God to whom vengeance belongs, O God, to whom vengeance belongs, show Yourself.

94:2  Lift up Yourself, Judge of the earth; render recompense to the proud.

94:3  How long shall the wicked, O LORD, how long shall the wicked exult?

94:4  They gush forth words; they speak arrogant things; all the workers of iniquity vaunt themselves.

94:5  They crush Your people, O LORD, and afflict Your inheritance.

94:6  They kill the widow and the stranger, and murder the fatherless.

94:7  Yet they say, "The LORD shall not see, nor shall the God of Jacob regard it."

94:8  Understand, you brutish ones among the people and you fools, when will you be wise?

94:9  He who planted the ear, shall He not hear? He who formed the eye, shall He not see?

94:10  He who chastens the nations, shall He not correct? He who teaches man knowledge, shall not He know?

94:11  The LORD knows the thoughts of man, that they are vanity.

94:12  Blessed is the man whom You chasten, O LORD to teach him out of Your law

94:13  That You may give him rest from the days of trouble until the pit is dug for the wicked,

94:14  For the LORD will not cast off His people, nor will He forsake His inheritance.

94:15  But judgment shall return unto righteousness; and all the upright in heart shall follow it.

94:16  Who will rise up for me against the evildoers? Who will stand up for me against the workers of iniquity?

94:17  Unless the LORD had been my help, my soul had almost dwelt in silence.

94:18  When I said, "My foot slips," Your mercy, O LORD, held me up.

94:19  In the multitude of my anxious thoughts within me Your comforts delight my soul.

94:20  Shall the throne of iniquity have fellowship with You, even one who devises evil by decree?

94:21  They gather themselves against the soul of the righteous and condemn innocent blood.

94:22  But the LORD is my fortress, and my God is the Rock of my refuge.

94:23  And He will bring upon them their own iniquity, and He will cut them off in their evil. The LORD our God shall cut them off.

Chapter 95

95:1  O come, let us sing to the LORD; let us make a joyful noise to the Rock of our salvation.

95:2  Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise to Him with psalms,

95:3  For the LORD is a great God and a great King above all gods.

95:4  In His hand are the depths of the earth; the peaks of the mountains are also His.

95:5  The sea is His, and He made it, and His hands formed the dry land.

95:6  O come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the LORD our maker,

95:7  For He is our God, and we are the people of His pasture, and the sheep of His hand. Today, if you would but hearken to His voice:

95:8  "Harden not your heart as in the rebellion, as in the day of temptation in the wilderness

95:9  When your fathers tempted Me, tried Me, even though they saw My work.

95:10  For forty years I was grieved with that generation, and said, 'It is a people who go astray in their hearts, and they have not known My ways'—

95:11  To whom I swore in My wrath that they should not enter into My rest."

Chapter 96

96:1  O sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth.

96:2  Sing to the LORD, bless His name; proclaim His salvation from day to day.

96:3  Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all people,

96:4  For the LORD is great, and greatly to be praised; He is to be feared above all gods,

96:5  For all the gods of the nations are idols; but the LORD made the heavens.

96:6  Honor and majesty are before Him; strength and beauty are in His sanctuary.

96:7  Ascribe to the LORD, O you kindreds of the people; give to the LORD glory and strength.

96:8  Ascribe to the LORD the glory due to His name; bring an offering and come into His courts.

96:9  O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness; tremble before Him, all the earth.

96:10  Say among the nations, "The LORD reigns, and the world shall be established; it shall not be moved; He shall judge the people with righteousness."

96:11  Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; let the sea roar, and the fullness of it.

96:12  Let the field be joyful, and all that is in it; then shall all the trees of the forest sing for joy

96:13  Before the LORD; for He comes, for He comes to judge the earth; He shall judge the world with righteousness and the people with His truth.

Chapter 97

97:1  The LORD reigns; let the earth rejoice; let the multitude of islands be glad.

97:2  Clouds and darkness are all around Him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne.

97:3  A fire goes before Him and burns up His enemies round about.

97:4  His lightnings light up the world; the earth saw and trembled.

97:5  The mountains melted like wax at the presence of the LORD, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.

97:6  The heavens declare His righteousness, and all the people see His glory.

97:7  All those who serve graven images are ashamed who boast themselves in idols; bow down to Him, all you gods.

97:8  Zion heard and was glad; and the daughters of Judah rejoiced because of Your judgments, O LORD,

97:9  For You, LORD, are most high above all the earth; You are exalted high above all gods.

97:10  You who love the LORD, hate evil! He preserves the souls of His saints; He delivers them out of the hand of the wicked.

97:11  Light is sown for the righteous and gladness for the upright in heart.

97:12  Rejoice in the LORD, you righteous ones, and praise His holy name.

Chapter 98

98:1  A Psalm.O sing to the LORD a new song, for He has done marvelous things; His right hand and His holy arm have worked salvation for Him.

98:2  The LORD has made known His salvation; He has revealed His righteousness in the sight of the nations.

98:3  He has remembered His steadfast love and His faithfulness toward the house of Israel; all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.

98:4  Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth; break forth, and rejoice, and sing praise.

98:5  Sing to the LORD with the lyre, with the lyre, and the voice of a psalm.

98:6  With silver trumpets and sound of a ram's horn make a joyful noise before the King, the LORD.

98:7  Let the sea roar, and the fullness of it, the world, and those who dwell in it.

98:8  Let the floods clap their hands; let the mountains sing for joy together

98:9  Before the LORD, for He comes to judge the earth; with righteousness He shall judge the world and the people with equity.

Chapter 99

99:1  The LORD reigns; let the people tremble. He sits between the cherubim; let the earth quake.

99:2  The LORD is great in Zion, and He is high above all the people.

99:3  Let them praise Your name as great and awesome; holy is He.

99:4  The strength of the King also loves justice; You established uprightness; You have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob.

99:5  Exalt the LORD our God and worship at His footstool, for He is holy.

99:6  Moses and Aaron were among His priests, and Samuel among those who called upon His name; they called upon the LORD, and He answered them.

99:7  He spoke to them in the pillar of cloud; they kept His testimonies and the statute that He gave them.

99:8  You answered them, O LORD our God; You are a forgiving God to them, though You took vengeance for their deeds.

99:9  Praise the LORD our God and worship at His holy mountain, for the LORD our God is holy.

Chapter 100

100:1  A Psalm of Thanksgiving.Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth.

100:2  Serve the LORD with gladness; come before His presence with singing.

100:3  Know that the LORD, He is God. He has made us, and we are His; we are His people and the sheep of His pasture.

100:4  Enter into His gates with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise; give thanks unto Him and bless His name,

100:5  For the LORD is good; His steadfast love is everlasting; and His faithfulness endures to all generations.

Chapter 101

101:1  A Psalm of David.I will sing of mercy and justice; to You, O LORD, I will sing praise.

101:2  I will behave myself wisely in a blameless way. O when will You come unto me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart.

101:3  I will set no wicked thing before my eyes. I have hated the work of those who turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.

101:4  A perverse heart shall be far from me; I will know no evil thing.

101:5  Whoever secretly slanders his neighbor, in secret I will cut him off; he who has a haughty look and a proud heart, I will not allow.

101:6  My eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land, so that they may dwell with me; he who walks in a blameless way, he shall serve me.

101:7  He who works deceit shall not dwell within my house; he who tells lies shall not remain in my sight.

101:8  Every morning I will destroy all the wicked of the land, so that I may cut off all wicked doers from the city of the LORD.

Chapter 102

102:1  A prayer of the afflicted, when he is overwhelmed and pours out his complaint before the LORD.O LORD, hear my prayer, and let my cry come to You.

102:2  Hide not Your face from me in the day of my trouble; incline Your ear to me; in the day I call, answer me quickly,

102:3  For my days go up like smoke, and my bones scorch like a firebrand.

102:4  My heart is stricken, and withered like grass, so that I forget to eat my bread.

102:5  Because of the voice of my groaning, my bones cleave to my flesh.

102:6  I am like a pelican of the wilderness; I am like an owl of the desert.

102:7  I watch, and am like a sparrow alone upon the housetop.

102:8  All the day my enemies revile me; in their rage against me, they make a curse of me;

102:9  For I have eaten ashes like bread, and have mixed my drink with weeping

102:10  Because of Your anger and Your wrath; for You have lifted me up and cast me down.

102:11  My days are like a shadow stretched out, and I wither like grass.

102:12  But You, O LORD, sit enthroned forever; and Your name is unto all generations.

102:13  You shall arise and have mercy upon Zion, for it is time to be gracious to her; yea, the appointed time has come,

102:14  For Your servants take pleasure in her stones and favor her dust.

102:15  So the nations shall fear the name of the LORD, and all the kings of the earth Your glory.

102:16  When the LORD shall build up Zion, He shall appear in His glory.

102:17  He will regard the prayer of the destitute and not despise their prayer.

102:18  This shall be written for the generation to come; and a people who shall be created shall praise the LORD,

102:19  For He has looked down from the height of His sanctuary; from heaven the LORD beheld the earth

102:20  To hear the groaning of the prisoner, to set free those who are appointed to death

102:21  That men may declare the name of the LORD in Zion and His praise in Jerusalem

102:22  When the people and the kingdoms have gathered together to serve the LORD.

102:23  He weakened my strength in the way; He shortened my days.

102:24  I said, "O my God, take me not away in the midst of my days; Your years endure throughout all generations.

102:25  Of old You have laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands.

102:26  They shall perish, but You shall endure; yea, all of them shall become old like a garment; like a vesture You shall change them, and they shall be changed;

102:27  But You remain the same, and Your years shall have no end.

102:28  The children of Your servants shall continue, and their seed shall be established before You."

Chapter 103

103:1  A Psalm of David.Bless the LORD, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name.

103:2  Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits;

103:3  Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases,

103:4  Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies,

103:5  Who satisfies your desires with good things; your youth is renewed like the eagle's.

103:6  The LORD executes righteousness and judgment for all who are oppressed.

103:7  He made known His ways unto Moses, His acts unto the children of Israel.

103:8  The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in mercy.

103:9  He will not always chasten, nor will He keep His anger forever.

103:10  He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor rewarded us according to our iniquities,

103:11  For as the heavens are high above the earth, so is His mercy toward those who fear Him.

103:12  As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.

103:13  As a father has compassion upon his children, so the LORD has compassion upon those who fear Him,

103:14  For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust.

103:15  As for man, his days are as grass; as a flower of the field, so he flourishes,

103:16  For the wind passes over it, and it is gone; and its place shall know it no more.

103:17  But the steadfast love of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon those who fear Him, and His righteousness is unto children's children,

103:18  To those who keep His covenant, and to those who remember His precepts to do them.

103:19  The LORD has established His throne in the heavens; and His kingdom rules over all.

103:20  Bless the LORD, O you His angels, mighty in strength, who do His commandments, hearkening unto the voice of His word.

103:22  Bless the LORD, all His works in all places of His dominion. Bless the LORD, O my soul!

Chapter 104

104:1  Bless the LORD, O my soul! O LORD my God, You are very great; You are clothed with honor and majesty,

104:2  Covering Yourself with light as with a garment, and stretching out the heavens like a curtain,

104:3  Who lays the beams of His upper chambers in the waters. He makes the clouds His chariot; He walks upon the wings of the wind;

104:4  He makes His angels spirits, His ministers a flaming fire.

104:5  He established the earth on its foundations; so that it should not be removed forever.

104:6  You covered it with the deep as with a garment; the waters stood above the mountains.

104:7  At Your rebuke they fled; at the voice of Your thunder they hastened away.

104:8  The mountains rose; the valleys sank down to the place that You had founded for them.

104:9  You have set a bound that they may not pass over, so that they might not return again to cover the earth.

104:10  He sends forth the springs into the valleys; they flow between the mountains.

104:11  They give drink to every beast of the field; the wild donkeys quench their thirst.

104:12  Beside them the birds of heaven will have their place of rest; they sing among the branches.

104:13  He waters the mountains from His upper chambers; the earth is full of the fruit of Your works.

104:14  He causes the grass to grow for the livestock, and herbs for the service of man, to bring forth food from the earth,

104:15  And wine that makes glad the heart of man, and oil that makes his face shine, and bread to strengthen the heart of man.

104:16  The trees of the LORD are full of sap, the cedars of Lebanon which He has planted,

104:17  Where the birds make their nests; as for the stork, the fir trees are her home.

104:18  The high mountains are for the wild goats, and the rocks are a refuge for the badgers,

104:19  Who made the moon for the appointed times; the sun knows its going down.

104:20  You make darkness, and it is night in which all the beasts of the forest creep forth.

104:21  The young lions roar after their prey and seek their food from God.

104:22  The sun rises; they slink away and go to their dens to lie down.

104:23  Man goes out to his work and to his labor until the evening.

104:24  O LORD, how many are Your works! In wisdom You have made them all; the earth is full of Your creatures.

104:25  There is the great and wide sea in which are creatures without number, both small and great living things.

104:26  There the ships go and the leviathan, which You have made to play in it.

104:27  All of them wait upon You, that You may give them their food in due season.

104:28  You give it unto them, they gather it; You open Your hand; they are satisfied with good.

104:29  You hide Your face, they are troubled; You take away their breath, they die and return to dust.

104:30  You send forth Your Spirit, they are created; and You renew the face of the earth.

104:31  May the glory of the LORD endure forever; the LORD shall rejoice in His works.

104:32  He looks upon the earth, and it trembles; He touches the hills, and they smoke.

104:33  I will sing to the LORD as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.

104:34  May my meditation to Him be pleasing; as for me I will rejoice in the LORD.

104:35  Let sinners cease from the earth, and let the wicked be no more. Bless the LORD, O my soul. Praise the LORD!

Chapter 105

105:1  O give thanks unto the LORD! Call upon His name; make known His deeds among the people.

105:2  Sing to Him, sing praises unto Him; talk of all His wonderful works.

105:3  Glory in His holy name; let the heart of those who seek the LORD rejoice.

105:4  Seek the LORD and His strength; seek His face evermore.

105:5  Remember His marvelous works which He has done, His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth,

105:6  O you seed of Abraham His servant, you children of Jacob His chosen.

105:7  He is the LORD our God; His judgments are in all the earth.

105:8  He has remembered His covenant forever, the word which He commanded to a thousand generations;

105:9  The covenant which He made with Abraham, and His oath to Isaac;

105:10  And He confirmed it to Jacob for a statute, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant,

105:11  Saying, "To you I will give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance,"

105:12  When they were but a few men in number; yea, very few, and strangers in it.

105:13  When they went from one nation to another, from one kingdom to another people,

105:14  He allowed no man to do them wrong; yea, He reproved kings for their sakes,

105:15  Saying, "Touch not My anointed, and do My prophets no harm."

105:16  Moreover He called for a famine upon the land; He broke the whole staff of bread.

105:17  He sent a man before them, even Joseph, who was sold for a servant,

105:18  Whose feet they hurt with fetters; he was laid in iron,

105:19  Until the time that his word came to pass, when the Word of the LORD tested him.

105:20  The king sent and loosed him, even the ruler of the people, and let him go free.

105:21  He made him lord of his house and ruler of all his possessions,

105:22  To bind his princes at his pleasure and teach his elders wisdom.

105:23  Israel also came into Egypt, and Jacob resided in the land of Ham.

105:24  And He increased His people greatly and made them stronger than their enemies.

105:25  He turned their heart to hate His people, to deal craftily with His servants.

105:26  He sent Moses His servant, and Aaron whom He had chosen.

105:27  They showed His signs among them, and wonders in the land of Ham.

105:28  He sent darkness and made it dark, and they rebelled not against His word.

105:29  He turned their waters into blood and killed their fish.

105:30  Their land swarmed with frogs in abundance, even in the chambers of their kings.

105:31  He spoke, and there came swarms of flies and gnats in all their borders.

105:32  He gave them hail for rain and flaming fire in their land.

105:33  He struck their vines also and their fig trees, and broke the trees of their borders.

105:34  He spoke, and locusts came, and caterpillars without number;

105:35  And they ate up all the plants in their land, and ate the fruit of their ground.

105:36  He also struck all the firstborn in their land, the chief of all their strength.

105:37  He also brought them out with silver and gold; and there was not one feeble person among their tribes.

105:38  Egypt was glad when they departed, for the fear of them had fallen upon them.

105:39  He spread a cloud for a covering, and fire to give light in the night.

105:40  The people asked, and He brought quail, and satisfied them with the bread of heaven.

105:41  He opened the rock, and the waters gushed out; they ran in the dry places like a river,

105:42  For He remembered His holy word unto Abraham His servant.

105:43  And He brought forth His people with joy, and His chosen with singing,

105:44  And gave them the lands of the nations; and they inherited the labor of the people,

105:45  So that they might take heed to His statutes and keep His laws. Praise the LORD!

Chapter 106

106:1  Praise the LORD! O give thanks to the LORD, for He is good, for His mercy endures forever.

106:2  Who can express the mighty acts of the LORD, or cause all His praise to be heard?

106:3  Blessed are those who keep judgment, and he who does righteousness at all times.

106:4  Remember me, O LORD, when You favor Your people; O visit me with Your salvation

106:5  That I may see the prosperity of Your chosen ones, that I may rejoice in the gladness of Your nation, that I may glory with Your inheritance.

106:6  We have sinned with our fathers, we have committed iniquity, we have done wickedly.

106:7  Our fathers gave no thought to Your wonders in Egypt; they did not remember the multitude of Your mercies, but rebelled at the sea, even at the Red Sea.

106:8  Nevertheless He saved them for His name's sake, to make His mighty power known.

106:9  And He rebuked the Red Sea, and it was dried up; so He led them through the depths, as through the wilderness.

106:10  And He saved them from the hand of those who hated them, and redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.

106:11  And the waters covered their enemies; there was not one of them left.

106:12  Then they believed His words; they sang His praise.

106:13  They soon forgot His works; they did not wait for His counsel;

106:14  But they lusted exceedingly in the wilderness and tempted God in the desert.

106:15  And He gave them what they asked, but sent a wasting disease among them.

106:16  And they were jealous of Moses in the camp and Aaron the holy priest of the LORD.

106:17  The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan, and covered the company of Abiram.

106:18  And a fire was kindled in their company; the flame burned up the wicked.

106:19  They made a calf in Horeb and worshiped the molten image.

106:20  Thus they exchanged their glory into the likeness of an ox that eats grass.

106:21  They forgot God their Savior, Who had done great things in Egypt,

106:22  Wondrous works in the land of Ham, and awesome things by the Red Sea.

106:23  And He said that He would destroy them, if Moses His chosen one had not stood before Him in the breach, to turn away His wrath, so that He should not destroy them.

106:24  And they despised the pleasant land; they did not believe His word,

106:25  But murmured in their tents, and did not hearken to the voice of the LORD.

106:26  Therefore He lifted up His hand against them to overthrow them in the wilderness,

106:27  To overthrow their seed also among the nations, and to scatter them in the lands.

106:28  And they joined themselves to Baal of Peor, and ate the sacrifices of the dead,

106:29  And provoked Him to anger with their doings; and the plague broke out upon them.

106:30  Then Phinehas stood and executed judgment, and so the plague was stayed.

106:31  And it was counted to him for righteousness unto all generations forevermore.

106:32  And they provoked Him at the waters of strife so that it went ill with Moses on their account,

106:33  Because they provoked his spirit so that he spoke rashly with his lips.

106:34  They did not destroy the peoples as the LORD had commanded them,

106:35  But mingled themselves among the nations and learned their works.

106:36  And they served their idols, which were a snare to them.

106:37  Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons,

106:38  And shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan; and the land was polluted with blood.

106:39  And they were defiled with their works, and went awhoring after their own inventions.

106:40  Therefore the wrath of the LORD was kindled against His people, and He abhorred His own inheritance.

106:41  And He gave them into the hand of the nations; and those who hated them ruled over them.

106:42  And their enemies oppressed them, and they were brought into subjection under their hand.

106:43  Many times He delivered them, but they were rebellious in their counsel and sank low through their iniquities.

106:44  Nevertheless, He looked upon their affliction when He heard their cry;

106:45  And He remembered His covenant for them and repented, according to the multitude of His mercies.

106:46  He made them also to be pitied by all those who carried them captives.

106:47  Save us, O LORD our God, and gather us from among the nations, to give thanks to Your holy name and to triumph in Your praise.

106:48  Blessed is the LORD God of Israel from everlasting to everlasting; and let all the people say, "Amen." Praise the LORD!

Chapter 107

107:1  O give thanks to the LORD, for He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever.

107:2  So let the redeemed of the LORD say, whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy,

107:3  And gathered them out of the lands, from the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south.

107:4  They wandered in the wilderness, in a desert by the way; they found no city to dwell in.

107:5  Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them.

107:6  Then they cried to the LORD in their distress, and He delivered them out of their troubles.

107:7  And He led them by a straight way, so that they might go to a city to dwell.

107:8  Let them praise the LORD for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of man,

107:9  For He satisfies the thirsty soul and fills the hungry soul with good things.

107:10  Some sat in the darkness and in the shadow of death, being chained in affliction and iron

107:11  Because they rebelled against the words of God and despised the counsel of the Most High.

107:12  Therefore He humbled their heart with labor; they stumbled, and there was none to help.

107:13  Then they cried to the LORD in their distress, and He saved them out of their troubles.

107:14  He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and broke their bands asunder.

107:15  Let them praise the LORD for His goodness and for His wonderful works to the children of men!

107:16  For He has broken the gates of bronze and cut through the bars of iron.

107:17  Fools are afflicted because of their rebellion and because of their iniquities.

107:18  They themselves loathed all kinds of food, and they drew near the gates of death.

107:19  Then they cried unto the LORD in their distress, and He delivered them out of their troubles.

107:20  He sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.

107:21  Let them praise the LORD for His goodness and for His wonderful works to the children of men!

107:22  And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare His works with rejoicing!

107:23  Those who go down to the sea in ships, who do business in great waters,

107:24  These see the works of the LORD and His wonders in the deep,

107:25  For He commanded and raised the stormy wind which lifted up the waves of the sea.

107:26  They mounted up to heaven, they went down again to the depths; their courage melted away because of the peril.

107:27  They reeled to and fro, and staggered like a drunken man, and were at their wits' end.

107:28  And they cried to the LORD in their distress, and He delivered them out of their troubles.

107:29  He made the storm calm, so that its waves were still.

107:30  Then they were glad because they were quiet, and He led them to their desired haven.

107:31  Let them praise the LORD for His goodness and for His wonderful works to the children of men!

107:32  And let them exalt Him in the congregation of the people and praise Him in the assembly of the elders.

107:33  He turns rivers into a wilderness and watersprings into thirsty ground;

107:34  A fruitful land is changed into a salty desert because of the wickedness of those who dwell in it.

107:35  He turns the wilderness into pools of water and dry ground into watersprings.

107:36  And He makes the hungry dwell there, so that they may prepare a city of habitation,

107:37  And sow the fields, and plant vineyards, which may yield fruits of increase.

107:38  He also blesses them, so that they are multiplied greatly, and does not allow their livestock to decrease.

107:39  Again, they have become few and brought low through oppression, affliction, and sorrow.

107:40  He pours contempt upon nobles and causes them to wander in the wilderness, where there is no path.

107:41  But He raises up the poor from affliction and sets their families like a flock.

107:42  The righteous shall see it and rejoice; and all iniquity shall stop its mouth.

107:43  Whoever is wise, let him give heed to these things, and let them consider the mercies of the LORD.

Chapter 108

108:1  A Song. A Psalm of David.O God, my heart is fixed; I will sing and I will give praise, even with my glory.

108:2  Awake, harp and lyre; I will awake early.

108:3  I will praise You, O LORD, among the people; and I will sing praises to You among the nations,

108:4  For Your mercy is great above the heavens; and Your truth reaches unto the clouds.

108:5  Be exalted, O God, above the heavens, and Your glory above all the earth,

108:6  So that Your beloved may be delivered; save with Your right hand, and answer me.

108:7  God has spoken in His holiness: "I will rejoice, I will divide Shechem, and I will measure out the valley of Succoth.

108:8  Gilead is Mine; Manasseh is Mine and Ephraim is the strength of My head; Judah is My lawgiver;

108:9  Moab is My washpot; I will cast out My shoe over Edom; I will triumph over Philistia."

108:10  Who will bring me into the strong city? Who will lead me into Edom?

108:11  O God, have You not cast us off? And, O God, will You not go out with our armies?

108:12  Give us help from trouble, for vain is the deliverance of man.

108:13  Through God we shall do mighty things, for it is He who will tread down our enemies.

Chapter 109

109:1  To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.O God of my praise, do not keep silent,

109:2  For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me; they have spoken against me with a lying tongue.

109:3  And they surrounded me with words of hatred, and fought against me without a cause.

109:4  In return for my love they are my adversaries, but I give myself unto prayer.

109:5  And they have rewarded me evil for good and hatred for my love.

109:6  Set a wicked man over him, and let an adversary stand at his right hand,

109:7  When he is judged, let him be condemned; and let his prayer become sin.

109:8  Let his days be few; let another take his office.

109:9  Let his children be fatherless and his wife a widow.

109:10  Let his children always beg and be vagabonds, and seek food out of their desolate places.

109:11  Let the creditor seize all that is his; and let strangers plunder the fruit of his labor.

109:12  Let there be none to give mercy to him, nor any to be gracious unto his fatherless children.

109:13  Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following, let their name be blotted out.

109:14  Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered by the LORD, and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out.

109:15  Let them be always before the LORD, that He may cut off their memory from the earth

109:16  Because he did not remember to show mercy, but persecuted the poor and needy man, and sought to kill the brokenhearted.

109:17  Yea, he loved cursing, so let it come unto him; he delighted not in blessing, so let it be far from him.

109:18  As he clothed himself with cursing, as with his robe, so let it come into his bowels like water, and like oil into his bones.

109:19  Let it be to him as the robe which covers him, and for a girdle with which he is always clothed.

109:20  Let this be the reward of my foes from the LORD, and of them who speak evil against my soul.

109:21  But You, O GOD the Lord, deal kindly with me for Your name's sake because Your mercy is good, deliver me,

109:22  For I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me.

109:23  As a shadow when it is stretched out, I am gone; I am shaken off like the locust.

109:24  My knees are weak from fasting, and my flesh has become gaunt.

109:25  And I also became a reproach to them when they looked upon Me; they shook their heads.

109:26  Help me, O LORD my God; save me according to Your steadfast love;

109:27  So that they may know that this is of Your hand; that You, LORD, have done it.

109:28  They will curse, but You will bless; when they arise, let them be ashamed; but let Your servant rejoice.

109:29  Let my accusers be clothed with confusion, and let them wrap themselves in their own shame, as with a cloak.

109:30  I will greatly praise the LORD with my mouth; yea, I will praise Him among the multitude,

109:31  For He shall stand at the right hand of the poor, to save him from those who condemn his soul.

Chapter 110

110:1  A Psalm of David.The LORD said unto my Lord, "Sit at My right hand until I make Your enemies as Your footstool."

110:2  The LORD shall send the rod of Your strength out of Zion saying, "Rule in the midst of Your enemies."

110:3  Your people will offer themselves in the day of Your power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: Yours is the dew of Your youth.

110:4  The LORD has sworn and will not repent, "You are a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek."

110:5  The LORD at Your right hand shall strike through kings in the day of His wrath.

110:6  He shall judge among the nations, He shall fill them with dead bodies; He shall shatter chief men over the broad earth.

110:7  He shall drink of the brook by the way; therefore He shall lift up the head.

Chapter 111

111:1  Praise the LORD! I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart in the council of the upright and in the congregation.

111:2  The works of the LORD are great, sought out by all those who have pleasure in them.

111:3  His work is glory and majesty; and His righteousness endures forever.

111:4  He has made a memorial for His wonderful works; the LORD is gracious and full of compassion.

111:5  He has given food to those who fear Him; He will always be mindful of His covenant.

111:6  He has declared to His people the power of His works, in giving them the inheritance of the nations.

111:7  The works of His hands are truth and justice; all His precepts are sure.

111:8  They stand fast forever and ever; they are done in truth and uprightness.

111:9  He sent redemption unto His people; He has commanded His covenant forever; holy and awesome is His name.

111:10  The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; a good understanding have all those who do His commandments. His praise endures forever.

Chapter 112

112:1  Praise the LORD! Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, who delights greatly in His commandments.

112:2  His seed shall be mighty upon earth; the generation of the upright shall be blessed.

112:3  Wealth and riches shall be in his house, and his righteousness endures forever.

112:4  To the upright there arises light in the darkness; he is gracious and full of compassion and righteousness.

112:5  It is well with the man who is gracious and lends freely; who conducts his affairs with justice.

112:6  Surely he shall not be moved forever; the righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance.

112:7  He shall not be afraid of evil tidings; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD.

112:8  His heart is established; he shall not be afraid until he sees his desire upon his enemies.

112:9  He has given freely; he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures forever; his horn shall be exalted with honor.

112:10  The wicked shall see and be angry; he shall gnash with his teeth and melt away; the desire of the wicked shall perish.

Chapter 113

113:1  O praise the LORD! Give praise to the LORD, O you servants of the LORD, praise the name of the LORD.

113:2  Blessed is the name of the LORD from this time forth and forevermore.

113:3  From the rising of the sun to its going down, the LORD'S name is to be praised.

113:4  The LORD is high above all nations, and His glory above the heavens.

113:5  Who is like the LORD our God, Who dwells on high,

113:6  Who looks down low upon the heavens and upon the earth?

113:7  He raises up the poor out of the dust and lifts the needy out of the dunghill

113:8  In order to seat them with nobles, with the princes of his people.

113:9  He causes the barren to dwell in the house as a joyful mother of children. O praise the LORD!

Chapter 114

114:1  When Israel went out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language,

114:2  Judah became His sanctuary, and Israel His dominion.

114:3  The sea saw it and fled; Jordan was driven back.

114:4  The mountains skipped like rams and the little hills like lambs.

114:5  What ailed you, O sea, that you fled? O Jordan, that you turned back,

114:6  O mountains that you skipped like rams, O little hills like lambs?

114:7  O earth, tremble at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob,

114:8  Who turned the rock into a pool of water, the flint into a fountain of waters.

Chapter 115

115:1  Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto Your name give glory for Your mercy and for Your truth's sake.

115:2  Why should the nations say, "Where now is their God?"

115:3  Our God is in the heavens; He has done whatever He has pleased.

115:4  Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men's hands.

115:5  They have mouths, but they do not speak; they have eyes, but they do not see;

115:6  They have ears, but they do not hear; they have noses, but they do not smell;

115:7  They have hands, but they do not handle; they have feet, but they do not walk; they do not make a sound through their throat.

115:8  The ones who make them are like them, and so is everyone who trusts in them.

115:9  O Israel, trust in the LORD; He is their help and their shield.

115:10  O house of Aaron, trust in the LORD; He is their help and their shield.

115:11  O you who fear the LORD, trust in the LORD; He is their help and their shield.

115:12  The LORD has been mindful of us; He will bless us; He will bless the house of Israel; He will bless the house of Aaron.

115:13  He will bless those who fear the LORD, both small and great.

115:14  The LORD shall increase you more and more, you and your children.

115:15  May you be blessed of the LORD Who made the heavens and the earth.

115:16  The heavens, even the heavens, are the LORD'S; but the earth He has given to the children of men.

115:17  The dead do not praise the LORD, nor do any who go down into silence.

115:18  But as for us, we will bless the LORD from this time forth and forevermore. O praise the LORD!

Chapter 116

116:1  I love the LORD because He hears my voice and my prayers.

116:2  Because He has bowed down His ear to me, therefore I will call upon Him as long as I live.

116:3  The sorrows of death hemmed me in, and the pains of the grave took hold upon me; I found trouble and sorrow.

116:4  Then I called upon the name of the LORD: "O LORD, I beseech You, deliver my soul."

116:5  Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; yea, our God is merciful.

116:6  The LORD preserves the simple; I was brought low, and He saved me.

116:7  Return to your rest, O my soul, for the LORD has dealt bountifully with you,

116:8  For You have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from falling.

116:9  I will walk before the LORD in the land of the living.

116:10  I believed, therefore I have spoken, "I was greatly afflicted;"

116:11  I said in my haste, "All men are liars."

116:12  What shall I give to the LORD for all His bountiful blessings toward me?

116:13  I will lift up the cup of salvation and call upon the name of the LORD.

116:14  I will pay my vows to the LORD now in the presence of all His people.

116:15  Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His saints.

116:16  O LORD, truly I am Your servant; I am Your servant and the son of Your handmaid; You have loosed my bonds.

116:17  I will offer to You the sacrifice of thanksgiving and will call upon the name of the LORD.

116:18  I will pay my vows to the LORD now in the presence of all His people,

116:19  In the courts of the LORD'S house, in the midst of you, O Jerusalem. O praise the LORD!

Chapter 117

117:1  O praise the LORD, all you nations; praise Him, all people,

117:2  For His merciful kindness is great toward us; and the truth of the LORD endures forever. Praise the LORD!

Chapter 118

118:1  O, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good because His steadfast love endures forever.

118:2  Let Israel now say that His steadfast love endures forever.

118:3  Let the house of Aaron now say that His steadfast love endures forever.

118:4  Let those who fear the LORD now say that His steadfast love endures forever.

118:5  I called upon the LORD in distress; the LORD answered me, and set me in a large place.

118:6  The LORD is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?

118:7  The LORD is for me as my helper; therefore I will look in triumph upon those who hate me.

118:8  It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.

118:9  It is better to trust in the LORD than to trust in princes.

118:10  All the nations surround me, but in the name of the LORD I will destroy them.

118:11  They surround me; yea, they surround me, but in the name of the LORD I will destroy them.

118:12  They surround me like bees; they are extinguished like the fire of thorns, for in the name of the LORD I will cut them off.

118:13  You have thrust hard at me so that I might fall, but the LORD helped me.

118:14  The LORD is my strength and song, and He has become my salvation.

118:15  The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tabernacles of the righteous; the right hand of the LORD does mighty things.

118:16  The right hand of the LORD is exalted; the right hand of the LORD does valiantly.

118:17  I shall not die, but live and declare the works of the LORD.

118:18  The LORD has sorely chastened me; but He has not given me over to death.

118:19  Open to me the gates of righteousness; I will go through them, and I will praise the LORD.

118:20  This is the gate of the LORD; the righteous shall enter through it.

118:21  I will praise You, for You have answered me and have become my salvation.

118:22  The Stone which the builders rejected has become the Head Stone of the corner.

118:23  This is the LORD'S doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.

118:24  This is the day which the LORD has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

118:25  Save now, I beseech You, O LORD; O LORD, I beseech You, cause us to prosper now.

118:26  Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD; we have blessed You out of the house of the LORD.

118:27  The LORD is God and He has made His light to shine upon us. Bind the festival sacrifice with cords even unto the horns of the altar.

118:28  You are my God, and I will praise You; You are my God, I will exalt You.

118:29  Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever.

Chapter 119

119:1  Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD.

119:2  Blessed are they who keep His testimonies and who seek Him with the whole heart.

119:3  They also do no iniquity; they walk in His ways.

119:4  You have commanded us to keep Your precepts diligently.

119:5  O that my ways were directed to keep Your statutes!

119:6  Then I shall not be ashamed when I have respect unto all Your commandments.

119:7  I will praise You with uprightness of heart when I have learned Your righteous judgments.

119:8  I will keep Your statutes; O forsake me not utterly.

119:9  With what shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to Your word.

119:10  With all my heart I have sought You; O let me not wander from Your commandments.

119:11  Your word I have laid up in my heart, so that I might not sin against You.

119:12  Blessed are You, O LORD; teach me Your statutes.

119:13  With my lips I have declared all the judgments of Your mouth.

119:14  I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies as much as in all riches.

119:15  I will meditate upon Your precepts and have respect to Your ways.

119:16  I will delight myself in Your statutes; I will not forget Your word.

119:17  Deal bountifully with Your servant, that I may live and keep Your word.

119:18  Open my eyes, so that I may behold wondrous things out of Your law.

119:19  I am a stranger in the earth; do not hide Your commandments from me.

119:20  My soul breaks for the longing that it has for Your judgments at all times.

119:21  You have rebuked the proud who are cursed, who go astray from Your commandments.

119:22  Remove cursing and reproach from me, for I have kept Your testimonies.

119:23  Even though princes sat and spoke against me, Your servant did meditate on Your statutes.

119:24  Your testimonies also are my delight; they are my counselors.

119:25  My soul cleaves to the dust; revive me according to Your word.

119:26  I have declared my ways, and You answer me; teach me Your statutes.

119:27  Make me to understand the way of Your precepts, and so shall I speak of Your wonderful works.

119:28  My soul melts away for sorrow; strengthen me according to Your word.

119:29  Remove from me the way of lying, and grant me Your law graciously.

119:30  I have chosen the way of truth; I have laid Your judgments before me.

119:31  I cleave to Your testimonies; O LORD, do not put me to shame.

119:32  I will run the way of Your commandments for You shall enlarge my heart.

119:33  Teach me, O LORD, the way of Your statutes, and I shall keep it unto the end.

119:34  Give me understanding, that I may keep Your law and observe it with all my heart.

119:35  Make me to walk in the path of Your commandments, for I delight in them.

119:36  Incline my heart to Your testimonies, and not to covetousness.

119:37  Turn away my eyes from seeing vanity; give me life in Your way.

119:38  Fulfill Your word to Your servant, so that You may be feared.

119:39  Turn away my reproach which I fear, for Your judgments are good.

119:40  Behold, I have longed after Your precepts; give me life in Your righteousness.

119:41  Let Your mercies come also unto me, O LORD, even according to Your salvation, according to Your word,

119:42  That I may have an answer for the one who reproaches me, for I trust in Your word.

119:43  And take not the word of truth utterly out of my mouth, for I have hoped in Your judgments.

119:44  So shall I keep Your law continually forever and ever.

119:45  And I will walk at liberty, for I seek Your precepts.

119:46  I will speak of Your testimonies also before kings and will not be ashamed.

119:47  And I will delight myself in Your commandments, which I have loved.

119:48  And I will lift up my hands unto Your commandments, which I have loved, and I will meditate on Your statutes.

119:49  Remember the word to Your servant upon which You have caused me to hope.

119:50  This is my comfort in my affliction, that Your word has given me life.

119:51  The proud have utterly scorned me, yet I do not turn aside from Your law.

119:52  I remembered Your judgments of old, O LORD, and have comforted myself.

119:53  Burning indignation has taken hold upon me because of the wicked who forsake Your law.

119:54  Your statutes have been my songs in the house of my pilgrimage.

119:55  I have remembered Your name, O LORD, in the night, and have kept Your law.

119:56  This I had because I kept Your precepts.

119:57  You are my portion, O LORD; I have said that I would keep Your words.

119:58  I entreated Your favor with all my heart; be gracious unto me according to Your word.

119:59  I considered my ways and turned my feet unto Your testimonies.

119:60  I made haste and did not delay to keep Your commandments.

119:61  The bands of the wicked have surrounded me, but I have not forgotten Your law.

119:62  At midnight I will rise to give thanks unto You because of Your righteous judgments.

119:63  I am a companion of all who fear You, and of those who keep Your precepts.

119:64  O LORD, the earth is full of Your mercy; teach me Your statutes.

119:65  You have dealt well with Your servant, O LORD, according to Your word.

119:66  Teach me good judgment and knowledge, for I have believed Your commandments.

119:67  Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I have kept Your word.

119:68  You are good, and do good; teach me Your statutes.

119:69  The proud have forged a lie against me, but I will keep Your precepts with all my heart.

119:70  Their heart is gross like fat, but I delight in Your law.

119:71  It is good for me that I have been afflicted, so that I might learn Your statutes.

119:72  The law of Your mouth is better to me than thousands of gold and silver.

119:73  Your hands have made me and formed me; give me understanding so that I may learn Your commandments.

119:74  Those who fear You will be glad when they see me because I have hoped in Your word.

119:75  I know, O LORD, that Your judgments are right, and that You have afflicted me in faithfulness.

119:76  I beseech You, let Your steadfast love comfort me, according to Your promise to Your servant.

119:77  Let Your tender mercies come to me so that I may live, for Your law is my delight.

119:78  Let the proud be ashamed, for with guile they have wronged me; but I will meditate on Your precepts.

119:79  Let those who fear You turn to me, and those who have known Your testimonies.

119:80  Let my heart be blameless in Your statutes, so that I may not be ashamed.

119:81  My soul faints for Your salvation; I hope in Your word.

119:82  My eyes fail for Your word, saying, "When will You comfort me?"

119:83  For I have become like a wineskin in the smoke, yet I do not forget Your statutes.

119:84  How many are the days of Your servant? When will You execute judgment on those who persecute me?

119:85  The proud have dug pits for me, men who do not act according to Your law.

119:86  All Your commandments are faithful; they persecute me wrongfully; help me!

119:87  They had almost consumed me upon earth, but I did not forsake Your precepts.

119:88  Give me life according to Your lovingkindness; so shall I keep the testimony of Your mouth.

119:89  Forever, O LORD, Your word is settled in the heavens.

119:90  Your faithfulness is to all generations; You have established the earth, and it stands.

119:91  They continue to this day according to Your ordinances, for all are Your servants.

119:92  Unless Your law had been my delight, then I should have perished in my affliction.

119:93  I will never forget Your precepts, for with them You have given me life.

119:94  I am Yours; save me, for I have sought Your precepts.

119:95  The wicked have waited for me to destroy me, but I will consider Your testimonies.

119:96  I have seen an end to every purpose, but Your commandment is exceedingly broad.

119:97  O how love I Your law! It is my meditation all the day.

119:98  Your commandments make me wiser than my enemies, for they are ever with me.

119:99  I have more understanding than all my teachers, for Your testimonies are my meditation.

119:104  Through Your precepts I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way.

119:105  Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

119:106  I have sworn, and I will perform it, that I will keep Your righteous ordinances.

119:107  I am afflicted very much; O LORD, give me life according to Your word.

119:108  Accept, I beseech You, the freewill offerings of my mouth, O LORD, and teach me Your ordinances.

119:109  My life is in my hand daily, yet I do not forget Your law.

119:110  The wicked have laid a snare for me, yet I do not go astray from Your precepts.

119:111  I have taken Your testimonies as an inheritance forever, for they are the rejoicing of my heart.

119:112  I have inclined my heart to perform Your statutes always, even to the end.

119:113  I hate those who are double-minded, but Your law do I love.

119:114  You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in Your word.

119:115  Depart from me, you evildoers, for I will keep the commandments of my God.

119:116  Uphold me according to Your word, that I may live; and let me not be ashamed of my hope.

119:117  Hold me up, and I shall be safe; and I will always have respect unto Your statutes.

119:118  You have rejected all those who go astray from Your statutes, for their deceit is useless.

119:119  You destroy all the wicked of the earth like dross; therefore I love Your testimonies.

119:120  My flesh trembles for fear of You, and I am afraid of Your judgments.

119:121  I have done justice and righteousness; leave me not to those who oppress me.

119:122  Be surety for Your servant for good; let not the proud oppress me.

119:123  My eyes fail for Your salvation and for the word of Your righteousness.

119:124  Deal with Your servant according to Your mercy, and teach me Your statutes.

119:125  I am Your servant; give me understanding that I may know Your testimonies.

119:126  It is time for the LORD to work, for they have made void Your law.

119:127  Therefore I love Your commandments above gold—yea, above fine gold.

119:128  Therefore I esteem all Your precepts concerning all things to be right, and I hate every false way.

119:129  Your testimonies are wonderful; therefore my soul keeps them.

119:130  The entrance of Your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.

119:132  Look upon me, and be gracious unto me, as You are known to do for those who love Your name.

119:143  Trouble and anguish have taken hold upon me, yet Your commandments are my delight.

119:150  They draw near, those who follow after wickedness; they are far from Your law.

119:151  You are near, O LORD, and all Your commandments are truth.

119:152  Concerning Your testimonies, I have known of old that You have founded them forever.

119:153  O see my affliction and deliver me, for I do not forget Your law.

119:154  Plead my cause and deliver me; according to Your word give me life.

119:155  Salvation is far from the wicked, for they do not seek Your statutes.

119:156  Great are Your tender mercies, O LORD; according to Your judgments give me life.

119:157  Many are my persecutors and my enemies, yet I do not turn aside from Your testimonies.

119:158  I saw the transgressors and was grieved because they did not keep Your word.

119:159  Consider how I love Your precepts; O LORD, according to Your lovingkindness give me life.

119:160  Your word is true from the beginning, and every one of Your righteous ordinances endures forever.

119:161  Princes have persecuted me without a cause, but my heart stands in awe of Your word.

119:162  I rejoice at Your word as one who finds great spoil.

119:163  I hate and despise lying, but I love Your law.

119:164  Seven times a day do I praise You because of Your righteous judgments.

119:165  Great peace have those who love Your law, and there is no stumbling block for them.

119:166  LORD, I have hoped for Your salvation, and have done Your commandments.

119:167  My soul has kept Your testimonies, and I love them exceedingly.

119:168  I have kept Your precepts and Your testimonies, for all my ways are before You.

119:169  Let my cry come near before You, O LORD; give me understanding according to Your word.

119:171  My lips shall utter praise when You have taught me Your statutes.

119:172  My tongue shall speak of Your word, for all Your commandments are righteousness.

119:173  Let Your hand help me, for I have chosen Your precepts.

119:174  I have longed for Your salvation, O LORD, and Your law is my delight.

119:175  Let my soul live, and it shall praise You; and let Your ordinances help me.

Chapter 120

120:1  A Song of degrees.In my distress I cried to the LORD and He answered me.

120:2  Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips, from a deceitful tongue.

120:3  What shall be given to you? Or what shall be done to you, O deceitful tongue?

120:4  Sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals of the broom tree!

120:5  Woe is me that I sojourn in Mesech; that I dwell in the tents of Kedar!

120:6  My soul has long dwelt with him who hates peace.

120:7  I am for peace; but when I speak, they are for war.

Chapter 121

121:1  A Song of degrees.I will lift up my eyes to the hills: from where does my help come?

121:2  My help comes from the LORD Who made heaven and earth.

121:3  He will not allow your foot to be moved; He Who keeps you will not slumber.

121:4  Behold, He Who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.

121:5  The LORD is your keeper; the LORD is your shade on your right hand.

121:6  The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night.

121:7  The LORD shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your life.

121:8  The LORD shall guard your going out and your coming in from this time forth, and even forevermore.

Chapter 122

122:1  A Song of degrees; of David.I was glad when they said to me, "Let us go into the house of the LORD."

122:2  Our feet shall stand within your gates, O Jerusalem.

122:3  Jerusalem is built like a city that is all joined together as one

122:4  Where the tribes go up, the tribes of the LORD, unto the testimony of Israel, to give thanks unto the name of the LORD,

122:5  For there were set the thrones of judgment, the thrones of the house of David.

122:6  Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: "May those who love you prosper.

122:7  Peace be within your walls, prosperity within your palaces."

122:8  For my brethren and companions' sakes, I will now say, "Peace be within you."

122:9  For of the house of the LORD our God, I will seek your good.

Chapter 123

123:1  A Song of degrees.Unto You I lift up my eyes, O You Who dwell in the heavens.

123:2  Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes look to the LORD our God until He shall have mercy upon us.

123:3  Be gracious unto us, O LORD, be gracious unto us; for we are exceedingly filled with contempt.

123:4  Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those who are at ease, with the contempt of the proud oppressors.

Chapter 124

124:1  A Song of degrees; of David."If it had not been for the LORD Who was on our side," O may Israel say,

124:2  "If it had not been for the LORD Who was on our side when men rose up against us,

124:3  Then they would have swallowed us up alive when their wrath was kindled against us;

124:4  Then the waters would have overwhelmed us, the stream would have gone over our soul;

124:5  Then the proud waters would have gone over our soul."

124:6  Blessed is the LORD Who has not given us as a prey to their teeth.

124:7  Our soul has escaped like a bird out of the snare of the fowlers; the snare is broken, and we have escaped.

124:8  Our help is in the name of the LORD Who made heaven and earth.

Chapter 125

125:1  A Song of degrees.Those who trust in the LORD shall be like Mount Zion which cannot be removed, but remains forever.

125:2  As the mountains are all around Jerusalem, so the LORD is all around His people from this time forward and forever.

125:3  The rod of the wicked shall not rest upon the lot of the righteous, lest the righteous put forth their hands to iniquity.

125:4  Do good, O LORD, to those who are good, and to those who are upright in their hearts.

125:5  And as for those who turn aside unto their crooked ways, the LORD shall lead them away with the workers of iniquity; but peace shall be upon Israel.

Chapter 126

126:1  A Song of degrees.When the LORD brought back the exiles, those who returned to Zion, we were like those who dream.

126:2  Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing; then they said among the nations, "The LORD has done great things with them."

126:3  The LORD did great things for us and we are glad.

126:4  Turn back our captivity, O LORD, as the streams in the south.

126:5  Those who sow in tears shall reap in joy.

126:6  He who goes forth and weeps, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come home with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.

Chapter 127

127:1  A Song of degrees for Solomon.Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; unless the LORD keeps the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.

127:2  It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of toil; for He provides for His beloved even as they sleep.

127:3  Lo, children are the inheritance of the LORD; the fruit of the womb is a reward.

127:4  As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man, so are the children of one's youth.

127:5  Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; they shall not be ashamed, when they speak with their enemies in the gate.

Chapter 128

128:1  A Song of degrees.Blessed is everyone who fears the LORD, who walks in His ways,

128:2  For you shall surely eat the labor of your hands; happy shall you be, and all is well with you.

128:3  Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine by the sides of your house; your children shall be like olive plants around your table.

128:4  Behold! So shall the man be blessed who fears the LORD.

128:5  The LORD shall bless you out of Zion, and you shall see the good of Jerusalem all the days of your life.

128:6  Yea, you shall see your children's children. Peace be upon Israel.

Chapter 129

129:1  A Song of degrees."Many times they have afflicted me from my youth," Israel may now say;

129:2  "Many times they have afflicted me from my youth; yet they have not prevailed over me.

129:3  The plowers plowed upon my back; they made their furrows long."

129:4  The LORD is righteous; He cuts off the cords of the wicked.

129:5  Let them all be ashamed and turned backward, all those who hate Zion.

129:6  Let them be like the grass upon the housetops which withers away before it grows up,

129:7  With which the reaper does not fill his hand, nor the binder of sheaves his bosom.

129:8  Neither let those who pass by them say, "The blessing of the LORD be upon you; we bless you in the name of the LORD."

Chapter 130

130:1  A Song of degrees.Out of the depths I have cried unto You, O LORD.

130:2  LORD, hearken unto my voice, and let Your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications.

130:3  If You, LORD, should mark iniquities, O LORD, who shall stand?

130:4  But there is forgiveness with You, that You may be feared.

130:5  I wait for the LORD, my soul does wait, and in His word do I hope.

130:6  My soul waits for the LORD more than those who watch for the morning; I say, more than those who watch for the morning.

130:7  Let Israel hope in the LORD; for with the LORD there is mercy, and with Him is plentiful redemption.

130:8  And He shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities.

Chapter 131

131:1  A Song of degrees; of David.O LORD, my heart is not proud, nor my eyes lofty; nor do I involve myself in great affairs, nor in things too wondrous for me.

131:2  Surely I have calmed and have quieted my soul as a child weaned by its mother; my soul within me is like a child weaned.

131:3  Let Israel hope in the LORD from this time forward and forever.

Chapter 132

132:1  A Song of degrees.O LORD, remember David and all his afflictions,

132:2  How he swore to the LORD; and he vowed unto the Mighty One of Jacob:

132:3  "Surely I will not come into the tabernacle of my house, nor go up into my bed;

132:4  I will not give sleep to my eyes, nor slumber to my eyelids,

132:5  Until I find out a place for the LORD, a habitation for the Mighty One of Jacob."

132:6  Lo, we heard of it at Ephrathah; we found it in the fields of the woods.

132:7  Let us go unto His tabernacle; let us worship at His footstool.

132:8  Arise, O LORD, into Your rest; You and the ark of Your strength.

132:9  Let Your priests be clothed with righteousness, and let Your saints shout for joy.

132:10  For Your servant David's sake, turn not away the face of Your anointed.

132:11  The LORD has sworn to David in truth; He will not turn from it: "Of the fruit of your body will I set upon the throne for you.

132:12  If your children keep My covenant and My testimonies which I shall teach them, their sons shall also sit upon your throne forever."

132:13  The LORD has chosen Zion; He has desired it for His habitation:

132:14  "This is My resting place forever; here I will dwell, for I have desired it.

132:15  I will abundantly bless her provision; I will satisfy her poor with bread.

132:16  I also will clothe her priests with salvation, and her saints shall shout aloud for joy.

132:17  There I will make the horn of David to bud; I have prepared a lamp for My anointed.

132:18  I will clothe his enemies with shame; upon himself shall his crown shine."

Chapter 133

133:1  A Song of degrees; of David.Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!

133:2  It is like the precious ointment upon the head that ran down upon the beard, Aaron's beard, that went down to the hem of his garments;

133:3  Like the dew of Hermon that descended upon the mountains of Zion, for there the LORD commanded the blessing, even life forevermore.

Chapter 134

134:1  A Song of degrees.Behold, bless the LORD, all you servants of the LORD who stand by night in the house of the LORD.

134:2  Lift up your hands in the sanctuary and bless the LORD.

134:3  May the LORD Who made the heavens and earth, bless you out of Zion.

Chapter 135

135:1  O praise the LORD! O praise the name of the LORD; praise Him, O you servants of the LORD.

135:2  Those who stand in the house of the LORD, in the courts of the house of our God,

135:3  O praise the LORD; for the LORD is good; sing praises to His name, for it is pleasant,

135:4  For the LORD has chosen Jacob for Himself, and Israel for His own treasure,

135:5  For I know that the LORD is great, and our Lord is above all gods.

135:6  Whatever the LORD pleases, He does in the heavens and in earth, and in the seas and in all deep places.

135:7  He causes the vapors to rise from the end of the earth; He makes lightnings for the rain; He brings the wind out of His treasuries.

135:8  He who struck the firstborn of Egypt, both of man and animal;

135:9  Who sent signs and wonders into your midst, O Egypt, upon pharaoh and upon all his servants;

135:10  Who struck great nations and slew mighty kings,

135:11  Sihon king of the Amorites, and Og king of Bashan, and all the kingdoms of Canaan,

135:12  And gave their land as an inheritance, an inheritance to Israel His people.

135:13  Your name, O LORD, endures forever, and Your memorial, O LORD, throughout all generations,

135:14  For the LORD will judge His people, and He will have compassion upon His servants.

135:15  The idols of the nations are silver and gold, the work of men's hands.

135:16  They have mouths, but they do not speak; they have eyes, but they do not see;

135:17  They have ears, but they do not hear, nor is there breath in their mouths.

135:18  Those who make them are like unto them, so also everyone who trusts in them.

135:19  Bless the LORD, O house of Israel; bless the LORD, O house of Aaron;

135:20  Bless the LORD, O house of Levi; you who fear the LORD, bless the LORD.

135:21  Blessed is the LORD out of Zion, Who dwells at Jerusalem. O praise you the LORD!

Chapter 136

136:1  Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good, for His mercy endures forever.

136:2  Oh, give thanks to the God of gods, for His mercy endures forever.

136:3  Oh, give thanks to the Lord of lords, for His mercy endures forever;

136:4  To Him Who alone does great wonders, for His mercy endures forever;

136:5  To Him Who by understanding made the heavens, for His mercy endures forever;

136:6  To Him Who stretched out the earth above the waters, for His mercy endures forever;

136:7  To Him Who made great lights, for His mercy endures forever;

136:9  The moon and stars to rule by night, for His mercy endures forever;

136:10  To Him Who struck Egypt in their firstborn, for His mercy endures forever;

136:11  And brought Israel out from among them, for His mercy endures forever;

136:12  With a strong hand, and with a stretched out arm, for His mercy endures forever;

136:13  To Him Who divided the Red Sea into parts, for His mercy endures forever;

136:14  And made Israel to pass through the midst of it, for His mercy endures forever;

136:15  But overthrew pharaoh and his army in the Red Sea, for His mercy endures forever;

136:16  To Him Who led His people through the wilderness, for His mercy endures forever;

136:17  To Him Who struck great kings, for His mercy endures forever;

136:18  And slew mighty kings, for His mercy endures forever:

136:19  Sihon king of the Amorites, for His mercy endures forever;

136:20  And Og the king of Bashan, for His mercy endures forever;

136:21  And gave their land for an inheritance, for His mercy endures forever;

136:22  Even an inheritance to Israel His servant, for His mercy endures forever;

136:23  Who remembered us in our low estate, for His mercy endures forever;

136:24  And has redeemed us from our enemies, for His mercy endures forever;

136:25  Who gives food to all flesh, for His mercy endures forever.

136:26  Oh, give thanks to the God of heaven, for His mercy endures forever.

Chapter 137

137:1  By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down; yea, we wept when we remembered Zion.

137:2  We hung our lyres on the willows in the midst of it,

137:3  For there our captors demanded a song from us; and our tormentors demanded joy, saying, "Sing us one of the songs of Zion."

137:4  How shall we sing the LORD'S song in a foreign land?

137:5  If I forget you, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget its cunning.

137:6  If I do not remember you, let my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth—if I do not set Jerusalem above my chief joy.

137:7  Remember, O LORD, concerning the sons of Edom in the day of Jerusalem, who said, "Raze it! Raze it! Even to its foundation!"

137:8  O daughter of Babylon, O you who are to be destroyed! Blessed is he who will repay to you your reward which you rewarded to us.

137:9  Happy shall he be who seizes and dashes your little ones against the rock.

Chapter 138

138:1  A Psalm of David.I will praise You with my whole heart; before the gods I will sing praise to You.

138:2  I will worship toward Your holy temple, and praise Your name for Your lovingkindness, and for Your truth; for You have magnified above all—Your name and Your word.

138:3  In the day when I cried, You answered me and made me bold with strength in my soul.

138:4  All the kings of the earth shall praise You, O LORD, when they hear the words of Your mouth.

138:5  Yea, they shall sing in the ways of the LORD, for great is the glory of the LORD.

138:6  Though the LORD is high, yet He has respect to the lowly; but the haughty He knows afar off.

138:7  Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me; You shall stretch forth Your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and Your right hand shall save me.

138:8  The LORD will perfect His work in me; Your steadfast love, O LORD, endures forever; do not forsake the work of Your own hands.

Chapter 139

139:1  To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.O LORD, You have searched me and have known me.

139:2  You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thoughts afar off.

139:3  You measure my going about and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways,

139:4  For there is not a word on my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, You know it altogether.

139:5  You have enclosed me behind and in front, and laid Your hand upon me.

139:6  Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.

139:7  Where shall I go from Your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from Your presence?

139:8  If I go up into heaven, You are there; if I make my bed in the grave, behold, You are there.

139:9  If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the farthest parts of the sea,

139:10  Even there Your hand shall lead me, and Your right hand shall hold me.

139:11  If I say, "Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light around me shall be night;"

139:12  Even the darkness does not hide from You, but the night shines as the day; as is the darkness, so is the light to You,

139:13  For You have possessed my reins; You have knit me together in my mother's womb.

139:14  I will praise You, for I am awesomely and wonderfully made; Your works are marvelous and my soul knows it very well.

139:15  My substance was not hidden from You when I was made in secret and intricately formed in the lowest parts of the earth.

139:16  Your eyes did see my substance, yet being unformed; and in Your book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there were none of them.

139:17  How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them!

139:18  If I should count them, they are more than the sand; when I awake, I am still with You.

139:19  Surely You will slay the wicked, O God; therefore you bloody men, depart from me,

139:20  For they speak against You wickedly and Your enemies take Your name in vain.

139:21  O LORD, do I not hate those who hate You? And am I not grieved with those who rise up against You?

139:22  I hate them with perfect hatred; I count them my enemies.

139:23  Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my thoughts,

139:24  And see if any wicked way is in me; and lead me in the way everlasting.

Chapter 140

140:1  To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.Deliver me, O LORD, from the evil man; keep me from the violent man,

140:2  Those who devise evil things in their hearts; together they always stir up wars.

140:3  They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent; the poison of a viper is under their lips. Selah.

140:4  O LORD, keep me from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from the violent man who purposed to overthrow my steps.

140:5  The proud have hidden a snare and a trap for me; they have spread a net by the wayside; they have set traps for me. Selah.

140:6  I said to the LORD, "You are my God; O LORD, hear the voice of my supplications.

140:7  O Lord GOD, the strength of my salvation, You have covered my head in the day of battle.

140:8  O LORD, do not grant the desires of the wicked; do not further their wicked plots, lest they exalt themselves. Selah.

140:9  "As for the head of those who surround me, let the evil of their own lips cover them.

140:10  Let burning coals fall upon them; let them be cast into the fire, into deep pits, so that they do not rise up again.

140:11  Let not a slanderer be established in the earth; let calamity hunt down the violent man with thrust upon thrust."

140:12  I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted and the right of the poor.

140:13  Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto Your name; the upright shall dwell in Your presence.

Chapter 141

141:1  A Psalm of David.O LORD, I cry to You; make haste unto me; give ear unto my voice when I call unto You.

141:2  Let my prayer be set forth before You as incense, and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

141:3  Set a guard, O LORD, to my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips.

141:4  Let not my heart turn aside to any evil thing, to practice wicked works with men who work iniquity; and let me not eat of their delicacies.

141:5  Let the righteous strike me in kindness, and let him correct me; it is choice oil upon my head; let not my head refuse it, for still my prayer is also against their wickedness.

141:6  When their judges are overthrown in stony places, they shall hear my words; for they are sweet.

141:7  Our bones are scattered at the grave's mouth, as when one cuts and splits wood upon the earth.

141:8  But my eyes are upon You, O Lord GOD; in You I take refuge, do not leave me destitute.

141:9  Keep me from the traps which they have laid for me, and from the snares of the workers of iniquity.

141:10  Let the wicked fall into their own nets together, while I escape.

Chapter 142

142:1  An Instruction of David. A Prayer when he was in the cave.I cried to the LORD with my voice; with my voice did I make my supplication unto the LORD.

142:2  I poured out my complaint before Him; I declared my trouble before Him.

142:3  When my spirit fainted within me, then You knew my path. In the way in which I walked they have secretly laid a snare for me.

142:4  Look to the right and see, no one is concerned for me; I have no way to flee; no man cares for my life.

142:5  I cried to You, O LORD; I said, "You are my refuge and my portion in the land of the living.

142:6  Hear my cry, for I am brought very low; deliver me from my persecutors, for they are stronger than I.

142:7  Bring my soul out of prison that I may praise Your name; the righteous shall gather around me, for You shall deal bountifully with me."

Chapter 143

143:1  A Psalm of David.Hear my prayer O LORD; give ear unto my supplications; in Your faithfulness and in Your righteousness answer me.

143:2  And do not enter into judgment with Your servant, for in Your sight no one living is righteous,

143:3  For the enemy has pursued my soul; he has beaten my life down to the ground; he has made me dwell in darkness, as those long dead.

143:4  Therefore my spirit is overwhelmed within me; my heart is weary within me.

143:5  I remember the days of old; I meditate on all Your works; I consider the work of Your hands.

143:6  I stretch forth my hands unto You; my soul thirsts after You like a parched land. Selah.

143:7  Answer me quickly, O LORD; my spirit fails; do not hide Your face from me, lest I be like those who go down into the pit.

143:8  Cause me to hear Your lovingkindness in the morning, for I do trust in You; cause me to know the way in which I should walk, for I lift up my soul unto You.

143:9  Deliver me, O LORD, from my enemies; I flee to You to hide me.

143:10  Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God; may Your good Spirit lead me on level ground of uprightness.

143:11  O LORD, for Your name's sake quicken me; in Your righteousness bring my soul out of trouble.

143:12  And in Your mercy cut off my enemies, and destroy all those who afflict my soul, for I am Your servant.

Chapter 144

144:1  A Psalm of David.Blessed is the LORD my Rock, Who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle.

144:2  He is my lovingkindness and my fortress, my high tower and my deliverer, my shield and He in Whom I take refuge, Who subdues my people under me.

144:3  O LORD, what is man that You take knowledge of him? Or the son of man, that You think of him?

144:4  Man is like a breath; his days are like a shadow that passes away.

144:5  Bow down Your heavens, O LORD, and come down; touch the mountains, and they shall smoke.

144:6  Cast forth lightning and scatter them; shoot out Your arrows and destroy them.

144:7  Send Your hand from above; rescue me and deliver me out of mighty waters, from the hand of foreigners

144:8  Because their mouth has spoken vanity, and their right hand is a right hand of lies.

144:9  I will sing a new song to You, O God; on a harp of ten strings I will sing praises to You.

144:10  It is You Who give salvation to kings, Who deliver David His servant from the hurtful sword.

144:11  Rescue me and deliver me from the hand of foreigners because their mouth has spoken deceit, and their right hand is a right hand of falsehood,

144:12  So that our sons may be like plants grown up in their youth; and our daughters may be like corner stones, polished like a palace building;

144:13  And that our storehouses may be full, furnishing all kinds of produce; and our sheep may increase by thousands and ten thousands in our fields;

144:14  And that our oxen may labor; that there be no mishap and no loss and no outcry in our streets.

144:15  Blessed are the people who are so; blessed are the people whose God is the LORD.

Chapter 145

145:1  A Praise of David.I will extol You, my God, O King; and I will bless Your name forever and ever.

145:2  Every day I will bless You; and I will praise Your name forever and ever.

145:3  Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and His greatness is unsearchable.

145:4  One generation shall praise Your works to another and shall declare Your mighty acts.

145:5  I will speak of the glorious splendor of Your majesty and of Your wondrous works.

145:6  And men shall speak of the might of Your awesome works; and I will declare Your greatness.

145:7  They shall pour forth the memory of Your great goodness and shall sing of Your righteousness.

145:8  The LORD is gracious and full of compassion; slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.

145:9  The LORD is good to all, and His tender mercies are over all His works.

145:10  All Your works shall praise You, O LORD; and Your saints shall bless You.

145:11  They shall speak of the glory of Your kingdom and talk of Your power,

145:12  To make known to the sons of men His mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of His kingdom.

145:13  Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and Your dominion endures throughout all generations.

145:14  The LORD upholds all who fall and raises up all who are bowed down.

145:15  The eyes of all wait upon You, and You give them their food in due season.

145:16  You open Your hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing.

145:17  The LORD is righteous in all His ways and loving in all His works.

145:18  The LORD is near unto all who call upon Him, unto all who call upon Him in truth.

145:19  He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him; He also will hear their cry, and will save them.

145:20  The LORD watches over all who love Him, but all the wicked He will destroy.

145:21  My mouth shall speak the praise of the LORD, and let all flesh bless His holy name forever and ever.

Chapter 146

146:1  O praise the LORD. Praise the LORD, O my soul.

146:2  While I live I will praise the LORD; I will sing praises unto my God while I have any being.

146:3  Do not put your trust in princes, nor in the son of man in whom there is no salvation.

146:4  His breath goes forth; he returns to the earth; in that very day his thoughts perish.

146:5  Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God,

146:6  Who made the heavens and earth, the sea and all that is in them; Who keeps truth forever;

146:7  Who carries out justice for the oppressed; Who gives food to the hungry. The LORD lets the prisoners loose;

146:8  The LORD opens the eyes of the blind; the LORD raises up those who are bowed down; the LORD loves the righteous;

146:9  The LORD preserves the strangers; He sustains the fatherless and widow, but the way of the wicked He turns upside down.

146:10  The LORD shall reign forever, even your God, O Zion, to all generations. O praise the LORD!

Chapter 147

147:1  O praise the LORD, for it is good to sing praises to our God, for praise is pleasant and becoming.

147:2  The LORD builds up Jerusalem; He gathers together the outcasts of Israel.

147:3  He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

147:4  He counts the number of the stars; He calls them all by their names.

147:5  Great is our LORD and mighty in power; His understanding is infinite.

147:6  The LORD lifts up the meek; He casts the wicked down to the ground.

147:7  Sing unto the LORD with thanksgiving; sing praises upon the lyres unto our God,

147:8  Who covers the heavens with clouds, who prepares rain for the earth, who makes grass to grow upon the mountains.

147:9  He gives the beasts their food and to the young ravens which cry.

147:10  He delights not in the strength of the horse; He takes no pleasure in the legs of a man.

147:11  The LORD takes pleasure in those who fear Him, who hope in His steadfast love.

147:12  Glorify the LORD, O Jerusalem; praise your God, O Zion,

147:13  For He has made the bars of your gates strong; He has blessed your children within you.

147:14  He makes peace within your borders and fills you with the finest of the wheat.

147:15  He sends forth His commandment upon earth; His word runs very swiftly.

147:16  He gives snow like wool; He scatters the hoarfrost like ashes.

147:17  He casts forth His ice like crumbs. Who can stand before His cold?

147:18  He sends out His word and melts them; He causes His wind to blow, and the waters flow.

147:19  He declares His word unto Jacob, His statutes and His ordinances unto Israel.

147:20  He has not done so with any other nation; and as for his ordinances, they have not known them. O praise the LORD!

Chapter 148

148:1  O praise the LORD! Praise the LORD from the heavens; praise Him in the heights.

148:2  Praise Him, all His angels; praise Him, all His hosts.

148:3  Praise Him, sun and moon; praise Him, all you stars of light.

148:4  Praise Him, you heavens of heavens, and waters that are above the heavens.

148:5  Let them praise the name of the LORD, for He commanded and they were created.

148:6  He has also established them forever and ever; He has made a decree which shall not pass away.

148:7  Let praise be to the LORD from the earth, you sea monsters, and all the depths;

148:8  Fire and hail, snow and vapor, stormy winds fulfilling His word,

148:9  Mountains and all hills, fruitful trees and all cedars,

148:10  Beasts and all livestock, creeping things and flying birds,

148:11  Kings of the earth and all people, princes and all judges of the earth,

148:12  Both young men and maidens, old men and children;

148:13  Let them praise the name of the LORD, for His name alone is exalted; His glory is above the earth and the heavens.

148:14  And He has also lifted up a horn for His people, praise for all His saints, even of the children of Israel, a people near to Him. O praise the LORD!

Chapter 149

149:1  O praise the LORD! Sing to the LORD a new song, and His praise in the congregation of saints.

149:2  Let Israel rejoice in his Maker; let the children of Zion be joyful in their King.

149:3  Let them praise His name in the dance; let them sing praises to Him with the drum and lyre,

149:4  For the LORD takes pleasure in His people; He crowns the meek with salvation.

149:5  Let the saints be joyful in glory; let them sing aloud upon their beds.

149:6  Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand

149:7  To execute vengeance upon the nations and punishments upon the people,

149:8  To bind their kings with chains and their nobles with iron bands,

149:9  To carry out upon them the judgment written—this honor have all His saints. O praise the LORD!

Chapter 150

150:1  O praise the LORD. Praise God in His sanctuary; praise Him in the firmament of His power.

150:2  Praise Him for His mighty acts; praise Him according to His excellent greatness.

150:3  Praise Him with the sound of the ram's horn; praise Him with the harp and lyre.

150:4  Praise Him with the drum and dance; praise Him with stringed instruments and pipes.

150:5  Praise Him on the loud cymbals; praise Him with the resounding cymbals.

150:6  Let everything that breathes praise the LORD. O praise the LORD!
